Quote:It was a while ago. The lower character invited the higher.Claws, are you sure? How did you initiate the pact? I just did 5 pacts last week and some were at my level but others pacts the user was higher. On the higher user, I got to "train" up and now it's my turn to do lifting.
They may have changed it since then, it's been quite a while since I've done one, but I distinctly remember having to gain those levels again and re-train them. -
Quote:Bill's just been snarkier of late, he's been like that to everyone that I've seen for at least a few weeks now. I'm not going to attempt to explain why, because I don't know him personally, and it isn't really any of my business anyway.Well, there goes my theory, then. Guess people were being rude.

I doubt he meant anything personal by it. -
Quote:Well, up until now, I'd found the community to be very friendly. I'm just glad I played the game for awhile before posting here, as I'm amazed at the hostile reception.
I think most of you have made your opinions clear, some of you even politely and thanks to those but apparently generally this isn't a forum for polite and friendly welcomes.Yes, I'd say you misunderstood.Quote:My apoliges if I misunderstood.. It's been one of those days. I obviously welcome comments and maybe just over reacted a little. My apoligies again.
In reading the thread, I didn't see anyone being rude about their disagreement.
One thing you have to understand, which you wouldn't have known since you just joined, is that many of your suggestions have been suggested, hashed, rehashed, dug up, rehashed again, and finally re-buried in a shallow grave.
Your vehicles suggestion in particular has been beaten to death many times, so many times in fact that a stock response exists for it.
PvP in the open world is a very touchy subject as well. I can't speak for everyone on it, but I personally do NOT want to be followed around by some d-bag that is spamming "duel me" in every channel he thinks I might hear him in. And it will happen.
The seeming rudeness you were perceiving is a result of the fact that you brought up a few things that the regulars in this section are VERY tired of seeing brought up over and over. It wasn't anything in particular you said, just that you brought up some extremely common things. -
I see no problem with allowing enemies that give no other rewards to drop inspirations.
Probably limit it to only being small inspirations and it would be okay. -
When I pacted my level 5 character with my wife's level 1, I actually LOST those 4 levels I had gained when I did so. As in, I had to re-train those levels and choose my powers over again.
If that's how it worked I can't see too many people being willing to sacrifice umpteen levels on their 50 in order to pact to a lower character (especially as it would probably result in the loss of any Incarnate stuff too)
I could see maybe extending the pacting level range up to level 20 or so, since that seems to be a popular level to gate things at lately. But that's about as far as I'd take it.
Don't think I'd support more than 2 in a pact unless presented with some really good arguments for it. Super Sidekicking already allows us to play together at any level. -
4)There is an Arena function in the Menu already. You can invite any other player to duel you at any time through it.
It sends you to an instanced Arena map, so you aren't annoying other players with your duel in an open zone. Which is necessary, because PvP and PvE work differently. I don't know if it is possible to implement PvP rules only for 2 players in a zone, or if it has to be the whole zone at once.
If it has to be the whole zone at once, then dueling someone in the open zone is going to piss off a LOT of people when their powers start working differently. -
Listen to Werner.
He said pretty much everything I would have said already. I might do a few things slightly differently, but his advice will get you in good shape. -
Spiritual.
The recharge will help your attack chain, and the healing will help your regen. Some sets will benefit from the stun enhancement as well. It's one of the only choices where you will benefit from most aspects of the slot you chose (only MA, DM, and Spines will benefit from the Immobilize aspect of Musculature) -
Quote:I don't have a build handy to add to this at the moment, but I wanted to touch on this here.Every day, in the various archtype forums, someone asks for a build. Most of these threads go basically ignored, unless a reward is thrown in (like in the Defender forum's latest build thread).
A lot of times, those threads asking for a build go ignored because, as a general rule, people don't like being asked to do all the work for someone else. When someone posts saying "I need an awesome Elec/Shield build" and very little else, I tend to ignore it myself.
However, when someone says: "Here's my Elec/Shield build, did I goof somewhere, and if so, what can I do to improve it?" and posts the build they are asking about along with it, I will almost always chime in with whatever helpful advice I may have, because that person has shown that they aren't just asking someone to do everything for them.
It also shows that the person asking might have a clue about WHY you made certain choices with the build. A lot of people asking for a build will just copy the build exactly in game, without having the faintest idea how and why that build is effective.
All that aside, I think that a place like this to compile builds is a good idea, especially if we can get this thread stickied. It will save a lot of trouble for people who are just looking for ideas about how to go about building their character. I don't think it will stop the "Give me an awesome build!" threads, but it might cut down on them a bit.
I'll try to actually add something to the thread when I get home from work (no Mid's on the work computer) -
Quote:These are both solid chains. FU-Focus-Slash is only going to happen with obscene levels of recharge, so if you don't want to spend a crap ton on the build, go with the second one and you will be just fine.
As for all of your questions it really depends on what you are wanting
IIRC (please correct me if I'm wrong) the best DPS chains for claws are:
Follow Up>Focus>Slash
(I think there is another here)
Follow Up>Focus>Slash>Strike
As far as secondaries go, things with damage auras get good mileage out of Claws, due to Follow Up being stackable and adding a decent amount of damage to the aura.
Proccing out Follow Up, Focus, and Slash isn't a bad idea. The Build Up procs will go off fairly often, as they will be in two of your most frequently used attacks.
I would frankenslot Follow Up with 3 Acc/Dam/Rech IOs, 2 pieces of Rectified Reticle, and the Build Up proc. I'd do Slash with whatever seems like a good idea and the Achille's Heel proc. I'd use 5 Decimation in Focus, including the proc, and maybe a Nucleolus HO if the damage isn't as good as you'd like.
From what I understand, Claws/Electric is a pretty solid combo. Add some defense to it and it gets even better. It has a damage aura, and a +recharge power to help with Follow Up stacking. I've never played one myself, but I've seen some builds that looked really good on paper. -
I think it has to do more with the devs trying to add some kind of challenge to these trials for defense based characters.
Increasing the to-hit of enemies is the only feasible way to make things more challenging for characters with high defense.
It would not be the slightest bit fair if these trials were a challenge for everyone except the defense based characters, because they are still almost never being hit by anything. They are meant to be a challenge for EVERYONE.
And last I checked, there is no game mechanic or rule that says anything less than completely flooring an enemy's chance to hit you is useless. -
It would also make Shield Defense impossible to use with a set that you can currently use it with.
I don't know if it is possible to flag a set to be usable with one set of animations but not another set. As far as I'm aware it is either A) you can use these sets together, or B) you cannot use these sets together. I don't know of any "you can use these sets together, but only if you use this set of animations for set A." -
Quote:That's 3 more than I have EVER gotten.I think I have gotten 2 drops actually PvP'ing one in zone and 1 during a practice match for the first freedom league. That's through 3 leagues and 1 boot camp each that had weekly matches and biweekly practices.
Granted, I don't PvP much anymore, but when I still did on a regular basis, I got squat. -
Quick reply here, I didn't read the entire thread, just skimmed it.
OP: The playstyle you describe yourself using is generally what is known as a BAD EMPATH.
There are many other things you could be doing that are more useful than following around the LAST person on the team that needs you healing them every few seconds.
You could be buffing people, you could be blasting, you could be telling a joke in team chat. ALL of those things would contribute more to the team than following the tank Rocking the Aura. Even telling a joke, in fact if you were on my team, I would RATHER you stand at the door and tell jokes than follow the tank around spamming Healing Aura. -
Quote:We also only have half of it right now.
This incarnate stuff is supposed to put you on par with the likes of Statesman, and other signature heroes (or villains). Yet you read it, and you go through goodness knows how many task forces, and trials or whatever to get your incarnate alpha unlocked and beef up, and all you get out of it is a poxy couple of per cent of a boost?
You didn't really expect to be as powerful as the game lore Incarnates with only half the slots open, didja?
Besides, the higher the tier, the more benefit of it ignores ED. The tier 2 has 1/3rd of the bonus ignoring it, tier 3 has half ignoring it, and tier 4 has 2/3rds ignoring it.
The way resistance enhancement works, that will net you an extra 14% or so of enhancement, which will add an amount of resistance depending on the base resistance of the power in question (which is different for various ATs, tanks have higher bases) -
Quote:This could work for the Bruiser, the Oni, and the Demon. But it wouldn't do much good at all for the Commando, the Assault Bot, and the Lich.
2. Add a taunt-Aura to the Tier 3 Pet and a taunt aspect to its attacks(maybe as Togglebutton, like the Ammotoggles in Pistols, so you can turn it off if you play in a team). Or add a special command to the standard-commands of the MM->Pet Taunt: Commands the targeted Pet to taunt/provoke the Enemies in his vicinity to attack him
The first 3 spend a significant amount of time in melee range of enemies. The other 3 (when they aren't bugged) prefer to stay at range, where a taunt aura would be useless. -
Glad to see you've figured out what they are for.
I can't even tell you how many times I've tried to pass a Wakie to a dead teammate only to get the message "Cannot give to X, not enough room in inventory."
I just want to tell them that if they had actually USED some of those inspirations sitting in their tray, they might not be dead. -
Quote:Yeah, I'm sure people play hammered on all the servers, but Pinnacle's natives took the Drunk Server designation and ran with it.Pinnacle is called that because it used to come up last after maintenance, so people joked that it was hungover. Plus most of the late night players (and some daytime players) are known to be wasted from time to time, as i'm sure a lot of other folks on others servers are.
Ironically, I'm still a Pinnacle native and almost never drink anymore.... -
Quote:If the customer were always right, this game would have died years ago.I find intellectually stimulating trying to figure where that boundary is, where the devs have a free reign of whatever they do as opposed to the customer is alway right.
The customer always being right would have meant the devs would have been obligated to implement every idiotic suggestion anyone ever made for the game.
The truth of the matter is: The customer is very frequently dead wrong. -
Quote:What difference does your ability to solo make in a situation where you are NOT SOLOING?Exactly. Not to mention the fact brutes and scrappers are SUPPOSED to be strong solo at's to make up for the fact they don't bring as much to teams as support toons. If they are 'evening the playing field' by weakening brutes and scrappers ability to perform well on their own, what are they doing to improve their contribution to teams to make up for what they are losing?
When you are solo, you are just as tough as you ever were, because the base to-hit in the rest of the game has not changed (other than Praetorian DE mobs). The trials are the only place your survivability drops off, and you are with at LEAST a full team the whole time.
If you guys aren't seeking solo glory, then why are you so concerned about your melee ATs' ability to perform well on their own in circumstances where it is a given that you will not BE on your own?
You are still serving the same purpose you ever do on a team: You are giving the enemies something to shoot at in order to keep the heat off the squishier ATs. That's exactly why all brutes and tanks, and some scrappers have taunt auras.
The teamwork here is, other people are keeping you alive with their buffs so you can better keep them alive. -
Really?
Being upset that you aren't just as survivable on the trials as you are in the rest of the game sure makes it seem that way.
If you are working with your league, you shouldn't be having any major issues staying alive on a melee character.
My Claws/Regen, who is sitting at 32% defense to S/L gets plenty of defense just by being in range of his teammates, and almost never dies on trials anymore. I very seldom even need to hit one of my heals. I monitor my defense so I know when I'm being debuffed, and it is pretty consistently over 70%. A character that is already softcapped should be consistently over 85% or so. I also ran my nearly softcapped BS/DA on them, and can't recall having to hit Dark Regeneration more than a few times across ALL my runs.
Either you've been doing the trials with crappy teams, or you're trying to do things on your own in the trials, that's the only explanation I can think of why you'd be encountering survivability problems.
In MY experience, I'm just not seeing the huge survivability gap some people here are noting. If anything, my scrappers and brutes are MORE survivable on the trials due to the buffs I'm getting from everyone else. -
Quote:Pretty sure the rate you earn iXP is anticipating you converting some threads into XP.But, I'm not getting a metric of 12 runs for the above. On my brute, which I started this week, I have done 20 BAFs alone and am still sitting at 67% to finish Lore. I have been getting around 6- 8 % bar completion per BAF run. And Lambda has been even worse. Same number of runs and still at 38% done on Destiny.
If you end up with an odd number of threads each time, there's no real reason not to. Those 7 threads aren't going to do you much good on their own, so you might as well convert them to XP -
I think softcapped characters have gotten far too used to being the ones everyone is jealous of because they can just go afk in large mobs more or less indefinitely.
Seems like the devs are evening the playing field in the trials a bit. Your scrapper or brute isn't going to be able to just run off and do whatever while the rest of the team gets slaughtered. If you do that....it will be YOU getting slaughtered instead.
It's not so much a matter of they want to make you weaker, as it is they want to emphasize teamwork over solo glory. It's a team effort, not an opportunity for you to make people wish they'd rolled what you're playing instead. -
Quote:C'mon Sharker, you know as well as I do that posting in an old thread will just get it locked for thread necromancy. If you have seen it before, and asked for it before, why didn't you read through those threads to see what had been suggested before and the responses to them so you could see if you could have added anything new to the discussion? Of course by starting a new thread like you did.
Honestly, it's been a while since I've seen this brought up, so even if there isn't a whole lot added to the idea there's nothing wrong with bringing it to people's attention again.
I don't really expect it to happen any time soon, if ever, but I actually don't have a problem with this idea. -
Sure, don't see why we couldn't do this. There are a lot of character concepts that call for certain powers only available as a temp power, it'd be nice to be able to stock up on charges.
