Quote:Best guess: It's hovering somewhere between 100k and 140k. I remember the 120k estimate, and it seems like the servers are busier now than they were then.It has been many years since I last heard an estimate on subs for this game, and at the time I thought it was somewhere around 120k; I realize they never officially release any numbers but does anyone have a more recent estimate after Going Rogue came out?

I'm basing this on the average number of people online in the global channels I'm part of. Before GR the average was 80-100 in prime time, now it's more like 120-160 in prime time.

Pinnacle has had 2 dots of server load when logging in more frequently than I've ever seen it before. Now, granted, that isn't proof of more people being online, but it is one of the indicators. Server load is affected by the number of people doing things, and what exactly they are doing. What I DON'T know is how much strain the Incarnate Trials put on the server.

Quote:You can also craft the Very Rare Alpha from thread components, provided you are lucky enough to get a Very Rare reward table. Potentially MUCH quicker.Just to clarify, one can't get a Favor of the Well any way other then by crafting it from 32 shards and 2 Notices of the Well? As in, I can't run something that drops one, and will just have to wait for the shards to accumulate?

I have everything for my first Very Rare Alpha ability except the 32 shards. (I have the Notices of the Well ready to craft that baby).

That's how I crafted my Rare Alpha on my main, I used thread components and crafted it after a single BAF run (got lucky and had a Rare table pop up)

Quote:I wouldn't be so sure of this.Given that NCSoft is "profit minded" I really don't see NCSoft agreeing to the art-department making another labor-intensive power-set unless it was tied to a paid expansion.

I really don't think NCSoft would tell Paragon Studios not to do something that would make their players happy, as long as there weren't any other projects it would be stepping on.

The art department gets paid the same regardless of what they are working on, and the game earns roughly the same amount of money regardless of what the art department is working on. Unless there is something more pressing they need to be doing, there is no reason why they couldn't work on something labor intensive.

If that labor intensive project helps retain subscribers, all the better.

I wouldn't expect a staff powerset anytime in the very near future, but we'll probably see it within the next 5 issues or so.

Quote:Yep.Yeah I think it does. My fire/fire scrapper's fire resist is a diff color since I am capped.

If the number shows up as blue it means it is at the hard cap.

The only exception to that is hit points in your combat attributes window, it turns blue when you are at full health, but that isn't necessarily the hard cap for that AT. (though it does indicate you are at the current cap of your personal HP)

	Not even close.

I sat around playing video games.

My friend practiced martial arts for years.

I don't get to automatically gain his skill when he decides not to practice martial arts anymore. If I want that same level of skill, I will have to spend the same amount of time learning it for myself.

Incarnate abilities are the same way. If one character doesn't do the content to unlock them, they don't get to have those abilities magically passed to them when a different character is deleted or no longer played.

It is one of the few things in the game where it makes perfect sense for each character to have to do it individually.
-
I have a hunch Omega is going to let you slot all 4 trees from Alpha at once.

 Just a hunch though.

Quote:There are two more trials in the immediate future, and the devs are reputedly looking into solo/small team Incarnate content.I dont visit the forums much any more so i havent heard. Are they planning on another trial or 2 or are we actually going to get some contacts and incarnate missions, also? I'd love to be able to get threads in missions just like shards.

The trials will be coming before Issue 21 (one of them at least for sure), so I am anticipating some kind of solo/small team Incarnate stuff to be released in Issue 21. Shouldn't be too much longer.
-
Fireball hits all at once, while Ball Lightning is largely DoT.

If you want things in that spawn dead NOW, Fireball is the better bet. They will both break Hide when you use them, so Ball Lightning stands a chance of getting you killed before the spawn drops.

Quote:Not really. While I congratulate the OP for taking down a GM solo, the feat seems to speak more for the effectiveness of the Incarnate abilities that any AT can get than it does for the effectiveness of Tankers. That the character involved was a Tanker seems to be largely incidental.

You could do the same thing with a squishier character and probably get one or two shotted repeatedly until you pulled it off.

Being a Tanker makes it MUCH easier to get survivability and focus more of your energy toward damage output.

Quote:Mine's Claws/Regen.Hey Claws, can I see your build? I don't want to seem like I'm TRYING to disagree with you or anything, but I've been playing with my Claws/SR trying to max DPS for quite a while, and I really don't see a way for it to get much higher than my current build, so I'd just love to be able to compare

For the record, my Claws/SR is my favorite toon.

 Here's the build.

I've compared it to Widows I have teamed with in-game, as I don't really have the time or inclination to dissect builds. I have been killing single targets faster than them, with fewer attacks, that's how I've been making the comparisons.

I keep Follow Up stacked a lot of the time, and once I reached perma-DP and a chain I was happy with, I stopped trying to optimize in that area and focused on defense.

I am very well aware that the Widows I've been comparing to may not be the most well built characters. Any random character you run across in-game has low odds of being built by someone with the knowledge floating around here in the scrapper forums.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if my build cracks 200 DPS, so it probably IS a case of me comparing it to mediocre Widows.

Quote:Umm, gonna have to say no to this. Now, give me more, and make my rewards transferrable back unto myself for when I black hole a toon. When I take what was one of my top 3 toons and decide to transfer for another character, they are left shatterred. 10 respecs or so to strip all the enhancers. There is nothing left. Pls allow me to get some of the shards/threads/powers off them as well. If nothing else a shard/thread/component self e-mail feature would at least encourage running more characters. After all, if I run a 50 but never plan to Incarnate them much, any special rewards I get can go to my new concept character. this will forestall toon burnout, and encourage diversity.

Enhancements are transferable for the same reason a gun is transferable. It is not part of your character, and anyone can use a gun.

I look at the incarnate stuff kind of like training for something. If my friend learns martial arts and I sit around playing video games, I don't get to suddenly become a black belt when he decides he doesn't want to be a martial artist anymore. If I want to be a black belt, I need to earn it myself. Incarnate abilities are the same way, if this character didn't do it, then this character doesn't get the benefit from someone else doing it either.

I solved that problem by not trying to Incarnate characters I'm not particularly attached to. I don't want to go to all that effort for a character I consider expendable. I have, currently, 2 characters that have made any appreciable progress on Incarnate abilities, and I'm trying to decide who's next.

Quote:Pretty much this.I've said before, and I will say it again. Out devs rock. They look at what we ask for, and many times, they implement it. Give them some time to actually do something. And "It's been 2 months" is not giving them any time.

Is it reasonable to expect the things you want to be given to you the instant you want them?

 Not at all.

I'm equating the complaining here to the person who goes to a gourmet restaurant and gets outraged that their meal wasn't brought to the table within 5 minutes of ordering it.

Food takes time to cook, especially good food.

Games take time to code, especially good games.

I can guarantee that if they rushed some solo/small group content out to appease the people who want it RIGHT NOW, it will be horrible, badly written, and buggy.

Be patient and give the devs a chance to actually do a good job on the stuff you want, instead of demanding they bang out some crappy, forgettable missions because you can't wait.

Like others have said, it has only been 2 freaking months. Don't you think that's a little soon to be saying "Oh, we don't have it yet, so we clearly never WILL have it"?
-
Quote:Be patient and see what comes along in the next issue. The next two trials are coming between issues, from what we've been hearing, so it is unlikely issue 21 will focus exclusively on more trials. The core strength of the game for seven years has been scaling small group and solo play. Changing the entire game to rely only on raiding for end game progression is bad. While having a raiding element to the game is fine, please make solo and small group play a primary focus for progression, not as an afterthought to raiding.

Seriously, this JUST came out within the last couple months. It is extremely premature to be saying "We'll never get anything but raiding now!!!!"

If a few issues pass and we get nothing but more trials, maybe then you can start complaining about it.

Also, if the "end game progression" was just a series of story arcs and a couple TFs....exactly how would you know that you are playing the end game? The fact that the trials are different than anything else in the game is, to my perspective, a good thing.

I guarantee that if the much hyped end game had been nothing more than a couple stry arcs and a TF or two, you'd see just as many, if not more people complaining that they waited 7 years and paid extra money for some crap that is exactly like the rest of the game.

Quote:Doesn't the resistance slotting of RPD affect the DDR you get out of it?Note that I underslotted RPD--that's because once Tough, TI and UY are fully slotted, you'll be over the S/L resistance cap and don't need to fully slot it.

If so, that would be good incentive to fully slot it out.

-
On the plus side, if this were to happen, BaBs's nemesis would be possible at long last.

I refer, of course, to......DUAL ARCHERY!!!!

And Quad Blades! Quad Pistols! Claws/Shield!

And other assorted powersets that are, well, never going to happen.

Quote:I gave up on diplomacy. To be honest that's the best I expect myself, but I'm also trying to be diplomatic with the players that want the 10 at a time increased. It costs me nothing to say maybe it will happen even tho I believe otherwise and agree with the devs current position on 10 being generous.

I go with blunt now. People may think I'm being a dick, but at least there's no mistaking what I meant.
-
Basically, you want all the powers in Shield Defense, with the possible exception of Grant Cover and One with the Shield.

You want most of the powers in Electric Melee (skip Lightning Clap, and maybe Havoc Punch, depending on how much room you have.)

Take the Fighting and Leaping pools. Try to fit in Hasten from the Speed pool. Make sure you slot Stamina in your Inherent Fitness pool with 3 End Mod enhancements.

You want to add 5 mores slots to Build Up and put the Gaussian's Synchronized FIre Control set to it. (you can find it at the Wentworths building for sale, it shouldn't be too crazy expensive)

That should softcap your defenses. The Softcap is 45%, which is the point where more defense doesn't do any good. Most enemies in the game have a base to-hit of 50%, and the game will not allow their chance to hit you to go below 5%, so 45% will get their chance to hit you as low as it will ever go.

If you plan on doing any teaming at all, you will probably want Taunt. There is much debate on whether Taunt is necessary, my advice is if you've never used it before, try it out and decide for yourself if you think you need it.

I'd go into more detail on the slotting, but that would just confuse you at this point. For now, in your attack powers slot: at least one accuracy (2 if you find yourself missing a lot) 3 damage, a recharge, and an end reduction (you can swap one or the other of these for a second accuracy if you find you need it)

Slot True Grit with 3 Heal enhancements, and if you getone, slot the Steadfast Protection Resistance/Defense in it as well.

Slot your defense powers with 1-2 End reductions, and 3 defense buff enhancements.

Once you have a better idea what you're doing, you can always come back for more specific advice on slotting.

Quote:Build perspective.Do you mean from a game balance perspective or simply a build perspective?

I haven't seen a Widow yet that will out-damage my Claws/Regen (in situations where I don't have to interrupt my chain to hit a heal at least).

I don't know if I just built my scrapper that good, or if the Widows I've teamed with were that bad, but that's my personal experience. It very much could be a case of the only Widows I've teamed with were not built as efficiently as my scrapper, but I can't verify that one way or the other.
-
Claws/Regen is a very reactive set. If you have good reflexes, and can anticipate incoming damage, it can be a beast, if you can't do those things it will be frustrating.

Mine is sitting at 32.5% defense to smashing/lethal (one small purple away from softcapped), and I very seldom need to hit my click heals in "normal" content. "Normal" being +1/X3-4 missions or so.

It's worth playing, but it really needs IOs to really shine.
-
I won't dispute the "better team player" bit, but a Widow should NOT be outdamaging a scrapper.
-
Quote:Because more levels would completely invalidate the current level 50 content. Why not just more levels?

Hami-Os would wear out after level 53. They'd have to come up with new enemy groups, new zones, new mission arcs, new content of every type.

And with the way players burn through content, the devs would be forced to do that all over again every few months to keep up with the demand for more stuff to do.

WoW, and other games, have trapped themselves in a cycle where the only way they can add new stuff is to increase the level cap along with it. And if you've ever tried to do anything not at the level cap in those other games, well, you know how that's working out for them.

Keeping the cap at 50 means they can add content all the time and they don't have to keep adding places to go along with it. They CAN add places to go, but it isn't a necessity.
