I couldn't put the line 'nip it in the bud' in one of my descriptions. It seems the filters are a bit nitpicky. Another forum that I frequent won't let the name of a famous author through the filter, either. Don't even think about discussing Alfred Hitchcock over there.

[/ QUOTE ]

How about Michael Moorcock?

[/ QUOTE ]

Or Phillip K Dick?
2. I'll say late June, like the last week.
3. I've put "Ma preferred but NO FARMs plz" in my search comment.

I get tired of being invited to PuGs who seem to think I want to do nothing but farm. I join up, roll into a mission and see that huge Paragon City street map and just sigh...

Macros

FYI, I find it best to make the macro name as short as possible. In the following example, the yellow text is the name that you see on the button in your tray:

/macro TN target_enemy_near

You want it to be as short as possible to keep the letters legible. I think it only allows four at most (all caps too) and they get pretty tiny, all crammed up on that one little button. If I can make it work and won't forget what it stands for, I go with only one letter or two at most.

Thanks you all for all the posts. I hope this thread helps people with similar issues. After talking it over with my wife, we have decided to cancel our accounts and leave the mmo market for a while. We just couldn't get passed how NC Soft has chosen to deal with this issue. The fact remains, they handed people the tools, written directions, and let people do as they pleased. Now they want to punish customers because the dev team put out an unfinished product. Again thank you all for your help and good hunting.

[/ QUOTE ]

They handed us some tools so it's not our fault for using them for things that we're not supposed to do? I don't agree with that, "personal responsibility" and so on.

Because of the above this is an unfinished product? I don't agree with that?

Not trying to flame you or anything, just calling things as I see them.

whole new thread for "ARC#98070897678 - THE BESTEST THING EVER WITH A PONY 4U!",

[/ QUOTE ]

ooooo i want to play this arc!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't get your hopes up, that's not the actual title or content of the next arc I'm working on.

On the other hand, an arc that gave out souvenirs called "A PONY 4U!" would be pretty awesome right there:

A PONY 4U!
.................................................. ...............................

You got a pony for your very own! Now remember, you promised to feed it, give it water, clean up after it and take it out for gallops along the beach when we said you could have one, so you have to be good and keep up with all that, ok honey?

PONY!!!!!>>squeeee!<<

Or something like that...
7. I'm using this in my up-coming arc and found that there are NO matching "fresh"/"wrecked" tech lab maps. :P I did find one "wrecked" that can sort-of kind-of match up with a "fresh", although the "fresh" one is two levels long and the "wrecked" one is only one level and about only the back half the "fresh" map.

There's also a curve in a corridor the "fresh" one doesn't have, but I'm hoping no one catches that. >.> <.< FNORD

When I use it I'm going to drop in a line about "the other levels collapsed in the explosion" or something...
8. I often read threads in The Market forum with some vague reluctance, like "homework I know I gotta do but won't actually enjoy" - it pays to stay informed, even if it's not the most exciting aspect of the game, right?

This thread however is not one of those dull threads, I love it!

I'd feel cheesy starting a whole new thread for the same ol' arc, but... I've seen worse in this section.

[/ QUOTE ]

Kinda makes me wonder if the "community designed" approach we currently use is the most efficient one. Right now, we put up a thread for each arc. Maybe we should have one thread for each player, and just use the subject field to denote Arc references?

There's a certain logic to this; the boards respect responses that are "linked" to a certain title, so it's almost like having a miniforum setup that way.

I was toying with this idea, as I really didn't want to make a new thread for my next arc, but wanted to rehash the discussion material from the previous arc. Setting it up this way might be the most efficient way to go, for board efficiency and ease of searching.

Thoughts? Think of it this way, if you're always using the same thread to update your stuff, then you're ensuring your older stuff is retained vs forum purges. Less clutter on the boards (everyone gets their own thread, instead of the prolific "I AM UBAR AUTOR I MAEK OVER 9000 ARCS!!!" and spamming the place to heck).

[/ QUOTE ]

Seeing as how I just found out that the thread for my second arc is gone now too, I was kicking around that very idea. I figured I might wait until I get my third arc done... which means probably sometime next year, at this rate. :P I guess it'd be better to start it up now (or "Soon[tm]") and be able to announce the new arc in it when it finally gets done.

On the other hand, it makes a bigger splash I think to be able to post a whole new thread for "ARC#98070897678 - THE BESTEST THING EVER WITH A PONY 4U!", I'm betting that draws more eyes than "yet another update to thread X".

So I'll probably wait until I have my third arc and then use it's thread as a catch-all for my previous two as well. Maybe that'd be the best method for this to work - post separate threads for each arc as you fill up your slots then one final one for the 3rd arc and then move any discussion from the old threads about old arcs into the one single.

By the way guys, see my sig? I have two arcs you can go play! Both are at 4-star averages with something like 42 and 32 plays respectively! (I am so cheesy #u.u#)

1. Yes, this can be done.

[/ QUOTE ]

THIS IS WHY I CAN'T AFFORD NICE THINGS!!!

I wonder if we'd be able to explain these points (takes too long, isn't all that profitable) to a "marketeer-hater" and have it "get through".
11. Sorry to hear about the mapserver problem, I've hit something like that too.

Not long ago I was doing some massive updating on my second arc and was told that I couldn't update due to an error - and lost all that work and time (devs, fix that! work should not be discarded like that!). These days I update like every ten minutes of work put in - or less, say after each "big change" like "all the detail dialogue" in mish #2 or something.

I don't try and update the arc then republish it because I'd hate to lose the stars. I have no CoH friends or active SGs so I'm having to really hustle for the few plays I get; I think my first and "Most-Pimped" arc was at 32 last I checked?

YMMV of course.
12. [ QUOTE ]
I guess I'll have to shamefully bump my arc thread more often, to keep it from going to thread 'purgatory'.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was going to do just that - mainly to draw attention to the fact I've been updating them based on feedback - and found the original thread for my first arc was already gone. I just don't have the time to live my life, play CoH and keep up with these boards as much as I would like to. I'd feel cheesy starting a whole new thread for the same ol' arc, but... I've seen worse in this section.

what folks of similar interests to you liked .

[/ QUOTE ]

I would like to see a new feature that after completing an arc you get present with a list of other arcs that the author recommends and/or "people who played this arc also played..."

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not so sure that would work. I may carefully choose which arc I play, but I do stumble into the occasional bad one and I wouldn't want my missteps to lead someone following me astray, you know? Maybe something like "other arcs this person played and rated at 3 stars or more".
14. [ QUOTE ]

Sorry for the sarcasm, but someone jumping in on one group is meaningless and you should just let it slide like water off a duck's back. If they follow you and do it constantly, that's harassment, and you should petition. Otherwise, you just look like a whiny baby.

[/ QUOTE ]

True up to a point. But being rude is an action, not something that happens by accident, except in one of those genuinely accidental moments when player X didn't know player Y was fighting that foe. Fortunately actual rude players are rare in this game though; so when that one dopes pop up, it's doubly aggravating to me. But yeah, I'd just as soon let it slide. Last time it happened I just left the area.
15. [ QUOTE ]
I know you've already played through them, but I would love to see [my arcs] in sepia tones, scratchy lines, and set to ragtime.

[/ QUOTE ]

They're listed in my sig.
16. [ QUOTE ]
The default text for the Kheldian ally I put in it was too long for the allotted space for the description, but that didn't show up as an error when I published the arc. I'm not sure if that was because the text limit was reset since then or if the MA feature used to simply ignore limits for default text and now doesn't, but I got no warning -- it just suddenly wasn't playable.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've heard that if you have a double-space somewhere in your text the system converts it to some sort of code that's like five letters long - and that this problem has caused similar grief to a bunch of folks.
17. [ QUOTE ]

And "hit and run" tactics are only effective while soloing as a Stalker; on a team you provide far more damage sticking around and fighting and playing hit and run has a good chance of getting you kicked and will likely get you one-starred and commented whether kicked or not. Yes, your attack chain doesn't develop until relatively late for most sets when compared to Scrappers and Brutes, but it's still better than AS...wait...AS...wait...

[/ QUOTE ]

Signed for well spoken truth. Unfortunately some players still hear that's the way stalkers play and "that's why they suck and I never invite them" from people who should know better by now.
18. Logging in at 1 AM doesn't help you find teams, even on Freedom; Pinnacle's a ghost zone at that hour.

It can be done on Freedom though, I have all the time. But it does make a it a little harder.
19. I didn't see it yet mentioned that stalkers get higher chances for a crit out of stealth when they're on larger teams. It starts at a base number (something like 15% per attack?) and goes up with numbers of players they're teaming with, up to something like 30% I think I think.

Yes, I have a head for numbers.

21. I can recall that when MA was announced, someone here made a post about planning a "how to use the market" infotainment-arc. I still think that'd be a great way to teach some people about it.

But don't look at me, I'm not half the guru most of you are, I have only one MA slot left and at least three ideas about what to put in it already!

Signed,
Ex-market-hater Clave Dark 5 (now I just see it as a necessary evil
22. I can't recall the details, but I once logged in and had two feedbacks for the same mish, one praising part X of it, the other telling me part X really needed to get redone or dropped. It comes down to deciding what you want in it and ignoring those who'd second guess you, which has happened to me a couple of times. I'm sure this has happened a lot to other authors.

Still, be nice and thank them for playing and giving you feedback.
23. [ QUOTE ]
Another possible choice would be to have him say something like "You've probably taken me down before? No? You're sure? I've been captured by tons of heroes."

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll give that some thought and see what I can come up with, I like the funny comments to be nice and short.

[ QUOTE ]

Yep, I remember seeing bots. Though if you charge in quickly summons tend to get overlooked for other attacks from what I've heard.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah, that might explain it, thanks for the info.
24. Thanks for playing "Too Many Bunnygirls!" and the feedback!

To address a couple of things you mentioned, the comment Rabbitual Criminal makes about having fought you before was part of "the joke" in his name, see? (I'm sure that strikes you as about as funny as a can of beans on a bus with a flat right now, any joke that needs explanation goes nowhere.)

And you played this on difficulty setting four?! When I'm feeling brave, I walk into the MA on 3 at most, and that's not very often, I usually stick with just 2. But I'm usually running my stalker or Corr - both squishie-class toons, not tanks. When i15 comes out I do intend to tweak some, so I'll revisit the boss' power sets.

I have considered adding in some more minion and leut. class versions of the bunnygirls but haven't had any strong ideas for alternate power sets and more importantly time to do so (and yes there is a boss level bunnygirl). Fortunately, I think the arc is only at 70% of possible space, so should be able to in the near future.

At first I was bothered by the fact that nothing published in MA ever seems quite "finished", always tweaking this, that, fixing some dialogue, etc. Now I'm realizing that with feedback like this, my missions are going to just keep getting better and better. Thanks again for you help in improvement!

(edited to ask a question Did the boss Watership Doom spawn bots? I gave her bots and the last couple of times I tested the arc she wasn't calling them in, just using her secondary - very annoying.
