I suggest Necro/Dark. The combo is pretty easy to get the hang of, and provides some wonderful mitigation and absolutely superb crowd control.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally I found the zombies harder/more annoying to control than Bots or Mercs, but - as always - YMMV.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sometimes the best starting combo is not the easiest. Sometimes it's the one that makes you learn your class/AT sooner. At least, that's my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree and often play that way myself, I was just making sure the OP knew what he might be facing. -

B) Do Mercs and Thugs do the same damage type (lethal)? I've seen how painful how resistances on it are higher up (heroside) and would like to avoid that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't tried it yet with my 40th level Mercs MM, but I hear that putting procs, such as the Achilles Heel one or the +neg dmg, into the mercs can make it a pretty good set.
Mercs has a bad rep overall, but keep in mind that it's "the worst set" for a totally amazing AT; that's like saying a thousand dollar winning ticket is "the worst lottery ticket". -

I personally don't care if everyone farms, as long as they're not using exploits. I DO care that everyone is publishing their own farm missions. Seriously, there are so many around already, many of which are obviously not going anywhere, just use one of those and quit making more. What is the difference between your Meow and the other guy's Meow? None.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, to play devil's advocate here, if I put up my Meow and somehow it becomes a popular Meow, I'll get tickets from people running mine and rating it well, right?
I personally have no horses in this race, my only thoughts on the subject are that I find farming too dull to be worth the time. -

((hey, invisible exploding zombies SEEMED like a good idea at the time >_>)
[/ QUOTE ]
That sounds kind of cool actually. o.o
I'm not too up on zombie pets or the "explodo-pet" power in /Traps though, can you tell me what went wrong there? -
One thing that's not really been said yet about choosing Air Supe is that you need to have at least one power chosen from the Flight Power Pool before you can take Fly at 16. That gives you a choice between Hover and Air Supe. Depending on your play style, Hover becomes useless once you have Fly, so Air Supe is a great choice there, considering all the above. I took it on my stalker and at low levels, combined with other knock-down attacks and Caltrops, it was golden, much more useful than Hover ever would have been.

Something as simple as..."Oh and by the way, they're expecting you" would be a suitable hint, I'd think.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd go as far to put that in colored text, or italics or bold:
"Oh and by the way, they're expecting you"
"Oh and by the way, they're expecting you"
"Oh and by the way, they're expecting you"
You might even follow it with a "[note: hotdoor]" just to be 100% sure they can't blame you if it makes them cranky (well, like that would stop someone anyway).
I can see that some players would hate hot doors, such as solo MMs and slow loaders (especially solo MMs who load slowly!), but personally I feel it's a valid element to pull from your deck if it fits the story somehow. -

The reason there's few DB guides is that the set seems to be different for everyone. Some swear by one combo and never use another, and some are the other way around. You're best off trying it for yourself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very true, like how one person said Sweep is useless and others followed saying it wasn't. DB started out very "lol stalkers" but as time has gone by I think many have learned more about it and changed their minds. My 50 DB/Nin was great fun and was the first toon I took to 50 after my scrapper who was Katana. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ouch... that stings a bit. I guess she'll be staying at the BM! haha
I guess I'll head back to the drawing board. I'll snoop around the boards a bit, but if anyone has any suggestions for me on a good PVP build (any sets)... please post I'm ALL EARS
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to say anyone's wrong here, but you could just got try it for yourself and find out, if you have an urge to play this toon in the first place... -
I caught it the second the OP said that "infamy doesn't exactly flow into bank accounts", I was all like WTH?! and checked the post date. Not fair pulling a necro on us like this!!

I started with ninja/poison. It's intensely fun (IMO) but easy? No not really. however with a ninja/poison MM you'll either learn pet control or die horribly quite often.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same goes for zombies. I ran one up to about 25 or maybe 28 once.
Bots are a great primary to start with. -
[ QUOTE ]
Keep in mind that in most cases, the Tankermind strategy is not the best thing for many Power Set combos, or even most of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Could you drop us a little info about which are? I have... hm, three MMs right now, Bots/Storm, Bots/Dark and Mercs/Traps. The /Dark is still low level and the /Storm is the only one I've tried/done extensive tankerminding with (Hurricane ftw!), so I'm no expert on the use of BG. I've used it to avoid getting two-shotted, yes; to actually tankermind (including taking Provoke), no, except for my experimentation with the Storm, which went amazingly well. -
I'm farming these threads for people to put on my ignore list.

Carnies are a nicely visual presence in the game. I really wanted to see some in a Rikti underground map because I thought they'd mesh so well with the design and colors of those places. I ended up doing that, sort of, in my second arc. At best they're just a side note in it now, but I was right, they do look nice in there.
If we had ten arc slots to fill I'd have to cobble one up that was nothing but Carnies on those maps...
-
Means-to-an-ender here. I'm playing to fight foes, not to count electronic widgets and blips, that's dull. I could play the "Balance Your Checkbook" game at my online bank if that was exciting (to be fair there is more at stake playing that one...).

Nothing makes my stalker miss more than if I pop a yellow. Most annoying thing ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Every single time. I swear. Any AT, any powerset, and *particularly* if it's a snipe shot that needs needs needs to hit.
[/ QUOTE ]I've noticed that, too. But only if I don't also pop a red.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can't believe that to be true - after you've "wasted" the red is when you really "need to hit now plz kthnx" - which is precisely when yellows will insta-fail you like that; happens every time to me too, especially on low level toons. -
Both my arcs have a solid 4 star rating, have gotten some five stars as well, and I would not consider that "languishing in 4* limbo" or "a downer".
The fact that anyone is playing at all and not sending me death threats and internet hatemail is good enough for me.
And say, speaking of the need to get the word out and "sell" your arcs, see my sig down there? See those two arcs listed?
Play them, k?
See how easy that is? -
Mary Sue-el.
Speaking of this "-El means some aspect of God", what does this mean for that one's superhero name "Kal-El"? He's the Kal of God? -
I still vote for pirates over ninjas and the astronauts over the cavemen. >

Did you remember to turn off Sprint?

Not only would I love to see more of these options, I would love to see more options for them.
I have a toon named Rattus Rex who looks like a rat (it's that one 'monstrous' head, can't recall the number off hand), except for his ears, I had to go with big floppy laid back ears and pretend he's a "dumbo rat". So then some time back they announce the new ear options and I was thrilled - then I found out they don't work for the 'monstrous' heads.
They should have, darn it! I want my rat to look like a rat! Or have horns and be a jackalope! Or whatever else I can come with... -

Dear Issue [ ] Doomcrier:
You claimed in your...
[ ] badly written
[ ] whiny
[ ] uninformed
...post that Issue [ ] will surely...
[ ] force everyone to group.
[ ] force everyone to solo.
[ ] cause all the casual players to leave the game forever.
[ ] cause all the "hardcore" players to leave game forever.
[ ] ruin City Of Heroes beyond all repair.
[ ] lead directly to the fall of human civilization.
In addition, you...
[ ] made an inept attempt to flame the developers.
[ ] claimed that the developers are specifically out to get you/your AT.
[ ] feebly attempted to preemptively counter rebuttals by suggesting/stating that any who do not share your opinion are "fanbois" or some similarly asinine term.
[ ] claimed that any attempt to improve the balance of the game is an inherently bad thing.
[ ] showed a lack of respect for players whose playstyles do not match your own.
Your claims are weak and unsupportable because...
[ ] they do not contain a shred of hard evidence.
[ ] they are flatly contradicted by the known facts.
[ ] they are shot through with logical fallacies that would get you laughed out of a 6th-grade debate class.
[ ] they betray a blatant disregard, outright hostility, or simple ignorance of the most basic principles of game design.
Specifically, you have failed to account for the fact that...
[ ] unless you are prepared to prove that you have telepathic powers, you have no business claiming to know what the developers were "really" trying to do.
[ ] people like you have predicted the imminent doom of COH during every previous Issue's launch, and every time you have been wrong.
[ ] contrary to your claims, the developers have consistently shown themselves to be intelligent and responsive throughout the game's history.
[ ] nobody promised you that your "nerfed" power/AT/playstyle was always going to work the way it did before.
[ ] this update is only on the Test server, and not a single proposed change is guaranteed to go live, as has been repeatedly proven in past releases.
Furthermore, you apparently need to be reminded that...
[ ] this new content doesn't cost you another dime, unlike in most other MMO's where you would have to shell out $20 or more for it.
[ ] calling out the devs is not only against the forum rules, but also completely ineffective and counterproductive.
[ ] you have no idea what the majority of players want, since you and every player you have ever known combined add up to less than 1% of the population.
[ ] your subscription fee is not so high that the cancellation you threatened/promised is going to scare the devs.
[ ] you just received or are about to receive a free respec.
In conclusion, it is highly recommended that you...
[ ] rework your combat tactics, because being "gimped" by a power nerf is usually a sign that you relied to heavily on that power...
[ ] turn off your Caps Lock key...
[ ] stop trying to speak for anyone but yourself...
[ ] start spellchecking and using halfway decent grammar and sentence structure in your posts...
[ ] quit throwing tantrums and grow up a bit...
...although it is more likely that you will simply repeat this process when Issue [ ] is released.

I didn't create it and it's not a response to anyone in particular, but feel free to use it.

I'd be happy to use that but it's too long to fit into my sig. >:/ Guess I'll have to stick to ol' Joe's quote down there, which in some ways boils down to the same thing. -

I have a friend looking to play a Corruptor for the first time (he doesn't have a forum account). Natural villain and he wants to go AR/Traps... and I promised I'd make him a decent SO-based leveling build.
Except I'm utterly clueless on slotting priority for traps and his blasts. If anyone has a sample build they could post here or PM to me, I'd be very grateful.
[/ QUOTE ]
I seem to recall having heard the two sets are great but synergize poorly, so he might wanna rethink that. Then again almost any build in the game can be playable anyways.
Tell him to read a couple of the Traps guides here on the forums. The only thing I recall that he needs to keep in mind is that "Posion Trap" got seriously nerfed after most if not all of those guides were written. Other than that, FFG, Seeker Drones (more or less) and Acid Mortar are the three biggest things he needs to aim for (lol, I make pun); everything else in Traps seems to be "to taste".

Farm haters hate because they feel ignorant for not figuring out how to increase their rewards.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you can read minds now? From what little I've bothered reading these threads, people seem to have all sorts of reasons for hating them, not jealousy.
