  1. I just replayed this yesterday and it held up to my memories of it being a fun little arc that makes inventive use of the mechanics. It's been around for a looong time and I'm glad it's now getting some attention. I think Mantid might not be around anymore though, sadly, as when I sent my comment in I was told his mailbox is full....
  2. I think everyone who's on the channel has already played most of mine (as I don't come up with new ones all that often these days, hard to find the oomph, ya know?), but I will toss in the name of my latest which I rather enjoyed creating:

    "The Sick Rose" by @Clave Dark 5 - #537898

It's only had I think nine plays since I last checked it.

I want the player to be in control of the action.
As I've understood it, that's what that setting is supposed to do, they only fight when first attacked. Never had a problem with "let me set up first", but maybe I don't give my NPCs a ton of things to set up? Try dropping a couple of them.

Those people must have been idiots (every fandom has them), because Firefly was waaay better than Star Wars.

I'd be one of those people. I haven't seen this yet (probably Saturday!), but I'm just happy right now that he's going to be a very busy man for some time to come.
  6. Woot woot woot! Thanks again for running this contest, it's one of the (few) things that inspirations me to create for the AE.
  7. I have played broots! I also play a new stalker my old stalker and ooh look, my old 'troller I never finished and hey isn't that that blaster with the awesome build I was working to finish and where is that defender? I don't really like defenders but the character was nice and then there's my 50 MM (my third 50!) that I was considering trying out incarnate stuff with and...

...and why am I not playing a what?

In other words, altitis... it's always altitis.

  9. 6. Remember that art has no rules and if you think you see one, break it because you're letting it hold you back.
  10. Yes, far too many to list here because - hey, you never know - I might actually make them someday and I don't want to log in and find the name [redacted] already taken!

(Like people would try and steal my weak spoonerism, I know!)

Some of them end up in AE arcs I make, and some end up starting in an AE arc and then migrating out, such as my four and counting versions of Princess Yinyin (various power sets and ATs)* from my arc about an alternate earth where the dominant life form evolved from pandas instead of apes. I just liked the costume so much. :P

Altitis means they'll probably never get past 6th level, but you never know...

*afterall, if there's one alternate universe with a Princess Yinyin who became a master of swords and then crosses to Primal Earth, there could be another where she popped over here, picked up a couple of pistols and said "NOW you're talking!"

I blame the crash mechanic. It was stupid then, and it is stupid now. There are so many better ways to balance even a god mode power than a crash at the end.
I'll agree that the crash mechanic makes these annoying to use, but remember that not everyone min/maxes their builds (I'm guessing it's not even a majority of players). I pretty much pass on trying to (unless I'm using a build I've taken off these forums) because it's too chore-like; I'm no longer in school, I don't want to waste time time doing homework when I could be out there spreading mayhem to the bad or good.

Somehow "Release The Pony!" just doesn't have the same ring to it. And no this is not an invitation for some MLP images. Please no.
  13. Because altitis. I made one when they came out, took the Widow further, and right now he's still sitting at something like 13th level. Like all my other low-and-abandoned alts, I do keep meaning to get back to him, but... oh look, dark dom! Shiny staff!

I'd expect the snack option to be sure as I'm pretty sure the devs will probably never get round to fixing that ol' thing, no matter my possible oratory skills.

I posted it as a suggestion here as both (hopefully... consider it 'thinking outside the box' if that will help you relax), as it would probably* be easier than rebuilding just one zone and more players would get the benefit of a better AE than "just a single zone", sytem shmystem. If I was going to be there, I'd probably do it anyways, just to be the spoiler. But I won't be there, so there you go.

*Who knows what kind of code mess it might be?

  16. Flames will be incoming for this but...

    Revamp the AE system.
It would be a "zone revamp" for everyone everywhere.

    Why?
    1) Any level toon of any alignment can use it, so it's "co-op".
    2) It's a system currently sitting darn near broken, which is just embarrassing for the game.
    4) Most likely, it would be easier than (re)building a zone from scratch (such as DA).

    How?

    1) You start by giving us stronger search parameters.
    2) You change the voting system.
    3) You change (meaning buff, essentially) the rewards, at least for Dev Choice arcs to avoid obvious farming, to draw players back. More Dev Choice arcs would be a part of this too, to keep it from getting too "samey" too quickly.
    4) You rework the buildings to fit better into the zones they're in (possibly cut down down the number of AE buildings as well).
    5) You also change the interiors of each one to be unique and to fit its new building as well - maybe one's laid out more like an office, another more like one of the enhancement stores, etc.

Chances of me holding my breath for this: 0%

Hey, it only just came out. Give it some time, some overseas sales and then the DVD and then we'll see.

A lot of films get made with the expectation they might not draw a ton of ticket sales, but clean up on DVD; I'm guessing this is one of those.

When asked about this in a stream, I think, they said they have "no plans", which is more or less a roadmap meaning "dead end".

I'd love to see it, but I seriously don't think we ever will. The only thing down the pike they've mentioned in a positive manner is the newer power sets getting added "eventually".
  19. Thanks for that link, just yesterday I was in Atlas and realized my map didn't line up anymore...

The last AE arc (one of mine) that I played, it activated it even though the captive was surrounded by mobs to defeat, which annoyed me. I haven't tried it again, but it makes me think there's another bug lurking...

It took them over a year to get it done. It sucked almost all of the development time out of other parts of the game, to the point where even bug fixing all but stopped until it was done. It ran way, way over budget, so much so that the publisher gave up on and it sold it and got out of the MMO business altogether. And the users still aren't happy with it, so they have very little to show for it, and may never recoup that expense.

So, no, we can't have nice things, and maybe there's a reason for that: nice things cost way more than we're willing to pay.
That explains a lot about what the devs are (not) doing for the AE over here; guess I can hang up my hopes for ever ever ever seeing something good or new done.

Although I'm not familair with that other MMO* and what went on there OR coding issues, I feel free to speculate that the other MMO probably got what they asked for with pie-in-the-sky features like custom maps (seriously???). While nice to think about and not uncommonly asked for, I think trying to shoot for things that was biting off more than they could chew.

I'd be more than happy to just have small tweaks and fixes... such as simply changing the star system to a like/dislike rating system (could that really be that hard to code?). But industry is vastly adverse to treading where others have failed before.

*If however that other MMO is the one I'm thinking of, I do know that being poorly managed is nothing new to it, and may have had a lot to do with its problems with updating its AE system...

PvP game mechanics play vastly differently, and the whole experience tends to see people having their characters die frequently. It's like a feeling of betrayal contradicting everything they have been taught by PvE.

Unless one has a strong competitive streak, PvP has nothing appealing to such players.
I seem to recall having heard this thoery ages ago from the PvP crowd and I thought it came across as transparently passive-aggressive swipe about "wimps who won't PvP". You're 100% right though that one has to have a competitive streak to want to PvP in the first place (although that doesn't really have anything to do with betrayal).

As I didn't PvP pre-i13 (past one experience in ganking and trash-talk), I don't know what it was like then. These days, I recall taking a little look-see at it and thinking it would be like playing a completely other MMO as for how builds and powers work. I decided I'd never give it another look as I don't have the time nor desire to learn another game.

Well said without snide-idity, or something. The real prob I see is that the game's whole population seems to be either contracting and/or solidifying at the end-game material. Both would make playing "at the edges" (AE stories run for fun not farming, late night play, low pop servers, redside play) much more likely to be a solo endeavor. I don't see new co-op zones or anything else helping that out, we just need more damn players.

And hey, I have run teams and I have taken over the star on and continued teams before, but it is more work in general than "just playing". Part of the pressure, for me, is the "filltheteamnownownmusthave8let'sgogogo" attitude I see from a some players, I've had teams of four quit and break up after a minute of me searching for others and not being fast enough. That's kind of stressful, you know?

Yeah, that's way too pat, unless you're merely trying to be snide. Not everyone enjoys building the team. I often play just before bed when my energy level is waning. Add on top of that my (apparently) slowish team-building skills and time of day I play (late night/early morning) and making a redside team that's more than 3 players strong can bea real chore, if impossible.

I've also seen other redsiders trying to find a group for DfB not finding anyone - not too surprising when there's only three others players on Mercy.

Meanwhile, the toons I play on blueside, I never have to make a team if I don't feel like it. There definitly is a notciable difference in my experience over the last several months.
