  1. My Bots/Dark is getting close to 40 so it's time I think about choosing her patron and I'd like some advice.

I understand that the popular choices are either Mace Mastery (for the shield) or...uh, whatever the electrical set is called (for the fences). I was thinking about Soul Mastery because the tentacles have such a wide area of affect (also fits her theme), would that be a bad choice? Will they hold down mobs in the burn patches despite the bots' knockback? My playstyle tends to be somewhat tankerminder-y, but not all the time, if that helps. Obviously opening up with Darkest Night or Tar Patch tends to draw fire anyway.

Also, once I've chosen Patron Set X for Power X, are there any other powers in those sets worth going for at all? I know the lowest level attacks are usually pointless.

I for one am looking forward to meeting the slimey limeys, the great danes, the frogs, and the sour Krauts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well someone's getting this off on the wrong foot...

Speaking of which, that reminds me a question, when they migrate and merge, are all the old threads coming with us or being lost?

I rolled a LOTG +7.5% last night. And it's one of the things I needed too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I love it when that happens.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When THAT happens, it's the most fun.

My current toon, an MM who's at 32 or so, finally built up enough merits from the odd DeathSurge team and whatnot to have enough merits to drop for a merit recipe-roll (no I don't ever chase merits by running mission arcs or by doing TFs, mainly due to the hour I'm on and my lack of a decent SG - which is all another story and don't get me bogged down in those details right now, ok?, I'm trying to tell a story here. So anyways).

I walk over to the merit vendor on Cap expecting trash as that's what I've gotten in the past the two times I've merit rolled on other toons, drop my twenty merits and -zing!- I get the Sovereign Right unique, which I will be using for her.

Now THAT was a seriously fun roll!

    I want pirates!

Just think - if we ever get pirates then the PvP battlelines will be drawn! "My pirates can beat up your ninjas!"
    "NINJAS!"
    "PIRATES!"
    "NINJAS!"
    "PIRATES!"
    "NINJAS!"
    "PIRATES!"
Could we survive such total warfare?!

I just made a Bot/TA MM, and for some reason I just love it. I'm only level 3 and I enjoy it. Usually the levels 1-6 are completely terrible (not level 6 itself, getting to it).

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's just something about having a dangerous robot (or a whole army of them) at your beck and call to wipe out your enemies that never seems to get old. You could have a Hello Kitty Aura secondary and a Bots MM will still be incredible fun from Break Out on up.

I tend to run toons up their levels until... I start a new toon because I had some "killer awesome idea" for the costume or toon concept, etc. My last four toons (that made it above 10th say) keep stalling out about 40 to 45. However, the last one AND my current are Bots MMs, and I'm still not sick of the set.

    the virtues of being....

    ...average.

It was probably one of the most horrifying moments in my life.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With good cause, I can agree with you there. Still, sometimes average is better than worthless, like some of the AE arcs I've seen out there. Sometimes you can be happy that an arc is "only as good as any radio mission".

    [ QUOTE ]
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As William Burroughs pointed out, anything "worth doing" is by definition worth doing no matter if you do it poorly or not.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Maybe i'm just stupid, but I fail to see what's so addictive about TV Tropes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm with you in this. Maybe only people who are not yet overtly burned out on hack writing (which is what tropes usually are, crutches and short-cuts taken by lazy writers) are interested to find the connections they'd missed, something like "Wow, Garfield's personality is just like Capt. Kirks! I never noticed that before!!!!" (just a made up example, do not attempt to understand it at home.)
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Anyone mind explaining what this is exactly? As someone who very rarely does MA unless I want to see a cool story arc I am unaware of "Maniac Slammers."

    [/ QUOTE ]

You've missed nothing, just crowds of these guys who can be a threat (so I don't feel quiteso badly about giving in and accepting an invite to these teams).

I was seriousluy thinking about never playing these again though because I am so bloody bored of them now. I was picturing myself going in and saying something like "Aw hell naw, not this AGAIN!" or "If I see this map one more time..." - sort of how OP's fellow player reacted, yet not so blue.

    Funny AFK

Regarding the "kitties eating what they shouldn't" issue, I had a cat once ate about 5 inches of one green onion shoot (the top green end) and nearly died. Anything from that family is poison for them. Sure, I'd also let them lick my soup bowls or something, but after that event I decided better safe than sorry.

Remember to keep your green onions and garlic (that might sprout) in the fridge, k?
  10. Just think - soon you'll be able to make the Excite-o-meter any color you want.

Redside needs more love. That's not exactly a mystery.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, but I do not understand why stalkers are so unpopular? With the recent changes to stalkers I find them very enjoyable to play with.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Old stigma from past "versions" of the Stalker where they really didn't do much other than Assassinate a single target, then flail about trying to do anything else. Many players today can't see how much better they've become since then and still think they're a complete waste to play/invite to teams.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is still alive and well too. Just yesterday I was in an AE arc when the full team lost a player then the leader said something to the effect of "Oh, it was just the lolstalker." He had a lot of vet badges too.

Step one; make a soft capped to smash lethal fire/kin.
    Step two: farm smash/lethal mobs.
Step three: bronze roll and sell.

    Repeat.

Edit: oh and nice work B-ry.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This works, but the soak rate of bronze IO's is a little low to move them all in 24 hours.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely true, Bronzes will eat up your tray unless you really prune your rolls hardcore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've only been marketeering on a limited basis with MA but that's what I'm starting to believe as well.
  13. MA abandoned me and our baby and won't make any child support payments that aren't tickets

MA once took away my candy just to see me cry.

MA is just another form of socialism.

Change FFG to operate the same way. A click power that summons a targeting drone looking thing that hovers around you and provides a dispersion bubble buff. Only this would have something like a 60 duration and a 120 recharge, requiring the player to invest in recharge to perma it. The current one is slow, gets hung up corners, has weird pathfinding, and can get stuck on NPCs, objects, MM henchmen, and even players. It doesn't always end up where you want it! The only trick I've seen with FFG that this change would screw up is when people use their teleport stealth IO to TP their FFG to give themselves a stealth bonus. It's not very common, and in fact, I've only ever seen or heard of ONE player doing it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Very unsigned.

Getting stuck and so on doesn't happen frequently enough that I've seen (hardly at all, really) that I want it screwed up like this. FFG is one of the gems of Traps and making it so we'd have to struggle towards making it perma would a major nerfage, imho.
  15. This looks so cool they can keep the pony and the cookies!
  16. [ QUOTE ]
As for robots - I REALLY want to love them but around L10 or so I just get bored to tears - there is no way I can stomach another 22 levels of that boredom just to get a cool AE spewing assault bot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just can't understand this when I hear it, which I have from time to time. Two of the last 4 toons I've been working on are Bots/* MMs and both times they seemed to level up at an easy running pace, "Oh look, I just leveled again - sweet!" I started to feel like hell on wheels by the time I had only two teir one bots and one single ProtBot. From there on up every other additional bot and upgrade for them was just an extra couple inches of thick creamy icing on the awesome cake.

With as fast as people can level these days (even not counting MA), the so-called "slow periods" or under performing stretches just don't seem to last at all to me, certainly not long enough for me to even really notice them. Then again - dunno about the other posters - I'm not a bean counter when it comes to performance, DPS figured out down to the fraction, etc.
  17. Frankenslotting pets is the way I've gone already, so this should be easy to do. I was following the pet slotting advice given here.

It's funny that I never noticed this problem on the last toon I was working up, a Bots/Storm (I think she was at 44 or so before altitis claimed her), but she was pretty sick anyway with all the storm powers, I may just have not been in a situation where I suffered because of it and therefore noticed it.

    Rularuu's Fang

FYI, those are pretty big honkin' swords too. My DB stalker has them, but she's just a little 5 foot six thing and make her look a little unbalanced. Good thing I didn't i use the chest slider on her much or she'd look really top heavy.
  19. They're on a "red flu" strike to protest how they never see players anymore because of AE.

    You know it's true.
  20. Wow. Playing redside 98% of the time (carefully calculated percentage by the way!) I had totally forgotten about those things.

They really need to be repurposed or have added features that make them relevant to more players. Image if they had never made Wentworth's and instead all the auctioning took place round those, for instance.
  21. I've only recently run across this information and, while I haven't had ages of time to check into it myself, I still haven't seen my ProtBots go dry once. I'm not trying to take down AVs though. My latest bots/* toon is also only 30.
  22. Here's another sig thrown at ya. My first one listed is silly fun. The second one is as well, although the custom villains in the last mish may cause a problem (small, but) depending on your AT. Both are solid 4-stars.

I think when i15 came out and I changed a few things around, one of these arcs (or maybe it was both?) ended up with one of those "WARNING: this arc may kick your puppies because it's so freakin hard!" sorts of warnings on it - don't believe such lies! The only changes I made (say, custom powers selection for a boss) were to make it easier, not harder. I want players to stick around and read my jokes, not get kilt and ragequit. There bosses to fight though, but not EBs or AVs, so probably level 20+ is a good idea.

    Hello.

I stepped through an Ouroboros portal from about two weeks after i16 was released so I could come here. Just to let everyone know, I'm getting sick of all the threads complaining about seizures, rainbow characters, annoying buff colors, and all the MLP/Care Bear themed characters that popped up!

So please, if you could, go ahead and get all those complaints out of your system now so that I can return to the future and get back to normal threads about how AE is ruining the game (still) and how we're all looking forward to the total character respecs that BABs confirmed for i17.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My complaint about i16 is how they gave away an Ouroborus portal to everyone. Now the portal babies (as we call them here in the future) aren't even PL'ing with AE, they're just stepping into the future where they already have a level 50 and then posting stupid threads here like "how to I log on to this game?"
  24. [ QUOTE ]
How long are these types of players going hang around?

What are they going to tell their friends about their experience with CoH?

Well you go to this city called Atlas Park where all the bad guys are low level, then you have to go to this building called the AE and there you can fight custom bad guys all the way up to level 50. . . They have a villains side called Mercy Island with the same set up. . . No, that's it. The players say the games been around for 5 years but I don't see how.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is my concern about it. My selfishness about this issue only extends to the bad rep that the game might accrue through such ignorance and that could lead to possible new-players avoiding the game which could haste it's end.

Some of these current AE babies might also quit the game when they discover that it's not all "rain of loot and XP" on the outside... you know, should the devs ever actually find a way to do away with "level 50 in two days!" (if so, the cries of NEEEERRRRF! will no doubt deafen us for months). And then imagine what they'd be telling their friends about this game.
  25. [ QUOTE ]

I totally empathise with your frustration. Just earlier this evening I thought, "Hmmm, maybe I've been a little hard on AE. Perhaps I'll give it another go." Conveniently, I was in AP when I had this thought and AE teams lfm were abundant.

I joined my team about 4th or 5th on the roster and waited for the team to be filled out. I marveled at the number of toons hanging out near the data stream and browsed for cool costumes to bestow some of my hoarded Numina: Heal IOs on. Then I noticed that the team was full and most already entered the mission.

Once inside we were on a custom map full of sledehammer-weilding doctors, nurses, and civilians. It looked like the work of Mother Mayhem and mayhem was exactly what we started dishing out.

As we progressed through the groups of baddies, I noticed that our team was shrinking one member at a time. We didn't team wipe, but a controller might have been careless in drawing too much aggro and face planted. The mobs weren't going down super quick as they were all lvl 54 with what appeared to be some good damage resistance.

Finally, there were four of us left, and I guess we failed to protect something because suddenly we were booted from the mission.

On that note, I typed a quick, "*Now* I remember why I solo." and quit the team. I'll be happy to stick it out on my own a little longer and dream of the day that I can solo a map like the one I was on with the new diff system coming in I16.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whatever mish that is, it seems to be the going thing these days for farming, I've ended up on it twice (once without realizing I was on a farm; I bowed out politely).

That's pretty much the same behavior I saw on those too, someone dies, suddenly the team loses a player.
