They didn't intend this problem, but in the AE, soon as you step onto a map any kidnapped NPC spouts out their dialogue. The line they're supposed to say when you get near, the line they say when you show up, the line they say when you've beaten up their guards (iirc, I haven't set foot in there in a bit, even though I have one arc about 80% near completion).
This pretty much ruins any kind of story flow an author had planned. Being it's the AE, I seriously doubt they've even taken one look at fixing it or will. But hey we all know it's only used for farming anyways, right? -
Quote:Emphasis added.I want an AT that is fairly supportive other than pure DPS that does not cost a lot of INF to make
I've been told you can pay for SOs for the "life" of a toon (20 to 50th level) for about 2 mill or 5 (never done the math myself). Playing with "only" SOs is a perfectly acceptible and vaiable way to play; reading these forums it's easy to forget that. If you wish to go further than that, then look into frankenslotting; then if you wish to go further than that, look at a total IO build.
That might even be a good way to play for you - take the new toon out for a spin round to 20, 30, 50, see how they handle and if you like them enough to invest in said IO building or not. -
I thought the video had a faint whiff of rationalizing, but overall I'll agree with what is says, although I haven't had much friending in CoH.
I alt way too much and the few SGs I've joined broke up soon after; on the other hand, it has allowed me to stay in contact with the good friend who introduced me to the game and now lives very far away.
All that aside, a number of times I have gotten into a PUG (my main way of playing) and had a real blast and often a good laugh.* The cost money-wise has been trivial compared to those moments.
Additionally, I've been able to expand my creativity via the MA system, and that's never a bad thing.
*One of the best I can recall: the PUG entered an office map and was facing down a horde of red and purple-con Tsoo standing just down the corridor, well within ranged-attack range, but just out of agro range. One or two of us were saying things like "egads..." "hoo boy" "uh oh" etc. The leader piped up, "Oh c'mon they can't be that fearsome; I mean, we're standing right here." Maybe you had to be there, but we all laughed and then proceeded to wipe the floor with them. -

WAI. I seem to recall finding I could drop an eye aura or two (might have been the beastly set, not sure now) on a beast-head, but they actually feel somewhere just below the eyes, so it looked bad, so I didn't take it.
Tis a sad, sad thing indeed. -
"Black Vengeance."
Why is it that so many of these names sound like that one guy on a PUG who keeps agro-ing three groups at once and never listens to reasonable advice? -
Quote:Personal play-style. If I felt I just absolutely HAD to go the near-softcap route on every single toon I'll ever play, I'd never get any actual playing done (and I'd quit because the game had become a chore and would leave me feeling like I can't do what I want to, just "what's the best choice").Please don't. If chasing defense is annoying to you - then play toons which don't need it so much.
Like some folks, I came to the forums, copied a build - an invuln tank that was soft-capped. The sheer survivability compared to my fire tank (also s/l resist capped like the invuln, but not soft-capped defense) was amazing. I immediately respec'd the fire tank and now wonder why anyone would play an invuln when they can have burn, be softcapped and s/l resist cap like the invuln is.
When you decide to just "have fun" and forget about what you slot in your toon, you might get away with it on a good team --but as soon as you're solo, you're going to regret it.
Playing a toon with just SOs is like driving a nascar stock car and putting regular gas in it. It might go, but it won't go as fast, and it won't have as much power. Anyone that tells you SOs are ok is telling you the truth. Just not the complete truth. I have two level 50 ice blasters. One was io'd, the other SOs. Identical powers, identical everything, except different servers. 3 guesses which one gets more play. I'll NEVER settle for SOs if I can have IOs and all their bonus goodness. Once I experienced the difference between the two, I respec'd and got soft-capped. Now the blaster can farm freaks at +1/8 as long as I have clarion slotted.
If you want to have fun, clobber the baddies - don't let them clobber you.
Chase defense numbers - you don't always have to be softcapped either. Sometimes 25% or 30% is good enough. It all depends on who you team with(tanks? Defenders?) and your playstyle.
Secondly, most builds I find here are for end-game, using at least a few purples, HOs and what have you. For me, a toon at 50 is pretty much at the end of their play-time. I don't PL and I do alt, a LOT, so my interest for any single toon can only last so long. I still have yet to do one post-50 thing in this game, and that's not likely to change.
Well, take that back, my designed-by-the-forums-blaster is looking to be a beast when she hits 50 and I just might take up some end-game to help out funding for other toons... maybe. Depends on if my other alts claim me more... -
Quote:Just don't worry about it?2) Is the chase for soft-cap/high defense unavoidable no matter what combo I play?
I'm in kind of the same space - I recently took a couple of builds from the forums (as I don't really have the time to sink into designing a soft-capped build myself) and discovered that wow, this can really make a difference! Problem is, it requires I usually not alt half as much as I like to and tends to make other non-specialized build toons feel weak. Which makes me feel like I'm wasting my time with these toons if they're only SOed or something.
Well, so it goes, time to ignore that and just have fun. I know can run even a poorly-built toon on any ol' PUG and still enjoy and contribute, just need to keep that in mind and make that inner nagging voice shut up.
Maybe that's what you need to do as well? -
I finally got a third 50, no particular reason why, it just happened.
With the way the Help channel became a default LFG channel and then the introduction of the new actual LFG channel, I've finally been able to find and create teams much more easily, and to actaully run some of the SFs. Separate channels are fine and all, I suppose, and have their place but segregating the population of an aging game was a really bad idea. It's really a shame they didn't have the LFG when they went F2P, I think they might have retained more of that initial surge of interest, which seems to have really dropped.
I've very much slowed down in creating new arcs in the MA system as it's become apparent that the devs are dealing with it as little as they possibly can. I still like doing work in it, but... it feels kind of pointless these days. Plus there's so much new stuff to do, so many new alts. -
1) Take two (or more) things really bad for your health
2) Mix them
3) ?????
4) Profit!
Works every time. -
Quote:1) I've been thinking that as well about the pistols, but you're the first I've seen mention it (maybe I missed a comment in the beta forums). I do like their names though, "Plan 9" and the "Quatermass".Only thing we need to make the new retro sci-fi stuff perfetc is:
A. A Ray Gun Pistol power set cuz the Plan 9 pistols look silly shooting bullets.
B. Someone talk Dink into letting us use the various eye auras with the empty Think Tank Head, cuz disembodied glowing/burning/electric eyes in empty water would look awesome.
2) If you have your head set for anything other than Think Tank, take the "Beastly Aura" glowing eyes and then set yourself for Think Tank, you can keep those eyes. If you make any more changes though, the costume editor wises up and takes them away, so make it your last choice. (I have this on my recent 'troller, who's a mechanical body being driven ala 'fluid-pressure-tech' by a jar of ectoplasm.) -
Quote:I think you found your problem right there. It might have taken "more time" to go reslot, but I think it would have helped make the run faster overall.I was 17 when we started, 21 when we finished. So my DO enhancements were almost worthless.
I'll agree the thing needs some reworking though; like all old content, it's not quite awesome as it could have been. I ran it for the first time like two months ago (sorry, red-sider by nature here) and was pretty bored, although we got it done in about an hour ten (and on a roll). "Go hunt down some CW!" X (far too many times). Some variation would help a great deal. -
Quote:Sounds like it could be a "Seeker Drones" (from the Traps set) variant. I kind of like the idea of it, something like "Stinging Insects".I don't know how this would fly with players (pardon the pun), but it could be a set that could do some toxic damage and implement soft-holds/immob/confuse as part of its gimmick.
I could see some people grouse though because "my character Poisonous Gas Man is all about deadly gas but has nothing to do with insects" or something. Still, I like it. -
You just activated my trap card - WATER BLAST!

I counted and realized my sixteen-year-old self saw nine of those films that year (and probably some others not on the list). I had no idea I used to go to movies so often back then. And I know I saw a couple of those more than once too.

I tend to read more magazines than books, but I did just finish "Impressions Of Africa" by Raymond Roussel (a new trans. from the French by Mark Polizzotti) from 1910. What a bizarre ride! The book (and author) influenced the Surrealists and a number of others in the 20th century. You kind some info on the Wikipedia page:

What?! -
I saw it a couple of weeks ago and can't even remember if it had a DK trailer or not (I do remember on for Prometheus though).
Instead of thinking I'm old, I'll say that's because the film was so fun. -
Quote:2) AnnihilationProtocol: Bots/Dark MasterMind. My go to Mastermind. +2/8
Pros: Mob Killer, Av Killer, GM Killer(Most), Def and Res, Debuffs(Mostly -Regen).
Cons: Low Dmg, DoT Dmg, No Burst Dmg.
Emphasis added.
I'm no number cruncher, but the wisdom I always overhear is that Bots are just about the best MM primary for damage. I have a Bots/Dark as well and never found her to be "low damage"... you make yours sound like a defender or something!I was about to chime in here with "Bots/Dark MM" when I saw your post.
Care to elaborate on that? Oddball build or something maybe? -
I'd forgotten all about that. I need to go track it down and take some screen shots for my desktop at work or something - that's in Night Ward, right?

He was also the villain alien in a well-remembered Tom Baker era Doctor Who episode called "City Of Death".

Quote:I work at night and don't own a car while she does, so going to see the film by myself presents some difficulties. On the other hand, maybe she can go see something else that I'm not interested in while I catch this. If I really wanted to see this, things like this would be worth overcoming; I'm only somewhat interested. You do know that you are, in all probability, two separate entities, correct?
Going to a movie by yourself is one of life's little pleasures. No one jabbering in your ear, no one telling you where to sit, no needing to share your popcorn. And if you go to an early enough matinee, there's a good chance (depending upon your location) that you'll be the only one there.
