Hm, good question! It's a cheat, but I think I'll have to go with customs in the AE, just because you'll run across stuff you've never seen before.
Past that, I'd have to go with Rikti I guess because I still enjoy the invasions.
For sheer visual (and sound) interest I'll go with the Tuatha; I fell in love with them in the Winter event and since I don't play heroes terribly often they still seem fresh when I stumble across them somewhere. Really, all the Croatoa beasties are fun. -
Quote:I really have to play this once I get my DP Defender started - a big grats to Arctic Princess!
I'm happy to give this week's Dev Choice to Arctic Princess. Congratulations, you earned it!
And BTW, about the phrase "this week's": so... there's a schedule for this? -
Not to throw rain on your parade of woes, but you guys do know that the XP change was never a "final fix" right? And that they've announced it's being changed around with GR in ways that are supposed to keep it exploit-adverse but fairer than it has been? Right?
You may tell me that you don't expect these changes to "be any good" or something, that's your prerogative. But you'll never be able to level as fast in AE as you can with Freaks radio missions for example, no. That does not make it a failure. -
I haven't read this thread so I bet someone may have already said this but - what you call "level grinding another character" others call "playing the game". The phrase "start out at 50" sounds something like an oxymoron to me.
-
I'm getting close to this same dilemma - every idea sounds so promising, but only a few slots left! All of these ideas sound good to me.
Maybe you should complete some and see which seems to "work" more for you than another.
I'm hoping that with GR they give us more slots, or let us buy more (obviously the free option is the one I want most). -
Ok, Smurphy, here's my first draft of
The Ghastly Secret Of Dreams, ID#386861.
Take a look, tell me what you like, don't like, think needs work etc. You'll face Cimoeran.. Cimorean... uhm, you, know, those Roman-like traitor guys in one mish, Rikti in another (both groups you said you liked), and two customs I've made for this arc in the other three missions. Plus you'll also get to scoop out your own brain - how cool is that?
I'm pretty sure I've got all the basic elements I was looking to put in such as collectibles, etc. and put them where I wanted. The only thing missing at this point is text.
And your opinion.
Anyone else who wants to take a look is welcome to, but it's not going to be an easy arc even at low settings, I hope! -
Quote:I haven't seen any action on my arc "A Wake For Dead 6" #379160, submitted on the last day for Doc A's second challenge. It's only been played twice* but it does have five stars. If you could find the time to give it a shot I'd be grateful. In case you're curious, more info can be found in it's thread here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=211126Is there any from the first challenge that I missed and should check out?
*remember kids, the earlier you submit an arc during a contest, the more likely you are to get plays. -
-
Say, Smurphy, I'm getting close to a playable phase for the arc I'm making - all the maps chosen, foes created or factions selected, glowies placed, all that good stuff. But the text will take some time.
Since the story as such doesn't concern you much, would you be up for giving the the thing a look-see (sans text/story) to let me know if I'm even near on the right path, or are you only interested in checking out the final product? -

Why do some of those CoT ghosts have legs and when can I get my lighting blade?
-
Quote:No, that wasn't me, mine's saved on Freedom. I'm too busy making arcs right now and don't want to be distracted by a cool, new shiny toon. :POH MY GOSH!!!! I saw a "Pistol Packin' Panda" the other day in Outbreak...Justice Server I think it was.
If that was you, I really, really, admired the costume and name. I think I stood there a bit and gawked, and wished I could be so clever
Lisa.
*eyes the crowd for name thieves* Last time I post in one of these threads! -
Quote:It still seems that "non-stop fighting action" is what farms are all about ("maximizing killing speed" and all), but the "killing teammates" factor is indeed something uncommon for farms (I think, I know the few times I've done them I see deaths on a fairly regular basis).Ah but you see, he doesn't want a typical farm.
Farms are designed to be as easy as possible to maximize killing speed.
Smurphy wants missions that are just hard enough to kill the players often enough for him to use his awesome Fallout and Vengeance and similar powers in order to make things more fun.
It's not about farming, it's about non-stop fighting action. If that just happens to bring a lot of xp and influence and tickets, that's cool, but as he said - he's already got everything he could possibly need. He doesn't need any rewards except perhaps as a way to attract players to come along on his crazy ride.
And clearly he's a busy man who must go back to his ebil marketeering ways. He can't waste time building arcs when he can just pay some poor schmuck like me to do it for him.
Anyways, I plan to do my goofball idea and submit it regardless. If he doesn't care for it then I'll just scale it back a bit for the rest of us, so to speak. After all, I wanted to do this idea anyways, right? -
Quote:Sounds like you want to "kill a lot of Freaks [or Romans or Rikti] and then click on a bomb."I don't plan on reading whatever story you write. I'm not going to pay attention to whatever fancy costumes dress your carefully crafted foes.
I'm entering the mission to shoot stuff and get some people shot. Whatever you need to do to please Dr. Aeon or whoever else to try and get your mission Dev Choiced you go ahead and do it. Please him AND please me and you get that fancy 10 Billion bonus.
All I'll be focusing on is if the mission is fun for me. Fun is mostly me blowing **** up. **** is both enemies and teammates. That's how you get the 5, 3, 2 or 1 Billion amounts.
You're obviously a smart guy, I'm sure if you spent a couple of days playing around wit the AE you could construct such a thing for yourself, although farms don't get Dev's choice. -
Quote:I have always heard how much fun that was but I'd never tried it before. Dear god I was laughing so hard! I really need to do that some day.I remember when that was said, but I refuse to (fully) believe it when there are videos like this.

I haven't gotten the pre-order yet (can't decide if I should wait or not), but I've already saved Pistol Packin' Panda on my server of choice. You know what they say about pandas, right?
"Eats, shoots and leaves." -
Quote:Well, my most played arc does have bunnies in it. :P Bunnygirls, but somehow I don't think that makes too much of a diff here."Warrior Spirit" is an intangible quality I can't properly put into words. Three-foot tall pink bunnies don't got it... A Rikti Soldier boss who pulls out an 8-foot alien axe and wacks a teammate for 1200 -- he got it.
"Warrior spirit" isn't a language I speak fluently, sad to say, partly because I can't resist making light of most situations as I write. The closest I came was probably in my WickerWork Khan arc but even that has it's light moments and setting. Heck, thinking about it, that one might still fly under that flag. You could take a look at it maybe, but it's only 3 missions long; I gather you want a real five mish epic. But anyways, my one idea I mentioned up above is seriously goofball (no bunnies though) in nature, so that's probably a no-go.
Still, I'll look through my list of ideas on the backburner and see what I might dredge up. I have to admit I'm starting to see this as something of a challenge... -
Quote:I have to admit I gave it some thought after I posted that. I don't have a really strong enough grasp on the AE system for designing 'tough challenges', I usually stick to the kiddy-pool end of that pool because when I tel a story I want people to see it, rather than grousing about how the boss beat them senseless.Try it anyways. I think he's given enough details for most competant arc writes to give it a shot. ITF actually isn't my favorite TF but I think I have a good idea of what he might like.
However, one goofball story idea I have knocking about waiting for the chance to get made might fit this, so I'm going to have to see if perhaps I can make that fit these parameters... fewer plays but a billion inf? Sounds good!
So... Smurphy, are you looking for a mish with standard dev-made foes or are customs ok (do customs play out at levels 51+ anyways?)? I also take it you're looking more for melee foes rather than ranged, right? -
Players commissioning AE arcs is a cool idea. If I had ever played an ITF, I might have given this a shot.
But I haven't. -
Funnily enough, the last mish I played was in "that room". It was a kill-all too. On my Bots/Dark MM. I ended up going through that room like three times before I found the Mu Mystic who was hovering behind a pillar and the Fortunata who'd suffered Bot-derived knockback and was happily chillin' on a pipe below the floor level she had fallen from, meaning I kept running past her.
I love the way the map looks and the fact that it's different from the usual fare, but kill-alls should never be placed there. Ever. -
Quote:I had the worst PUG experiences of my gaming life on one of the less-populated servers. I do not then think that "low pop servers have bad players", because say half a dozen bad experiences does not equal the entire player base of that server.Wow, i guess i understand now why some people dont want the servers to merge... assuming that most of these stories and the rude tells in another topic come mostly from highly populated servers.
Same thing goes for high pop servers. Which is why it's never wise to assume. -
The worst thing about the cake room is teams invariably split up (usually just accidentally) and end up getting ganked because they thought they could go it solo (or fell through a crack). I've done it more than a couple of times and I think the last time I was in one I did the same thing, dammit. It's always a bit funny to be dashing about trying to find your other teammates and seeing that at least one is near-red and quickly dropping.
Best way to do those rooms is to all go to the bottom of it and work your way up, FYI. That way if you fall through you at least won't be facing a whole mod by yourself. -
After playing the marketing game too hard on a stalker (who currently still has like a bajillion inf - can't wait till we can mail that stuff!), my next toon was a Bots/Storm and I was really burned out on the market. I decided early on to just go with generic IOs and it went pretty well. She's at something like 42nd level right now (another victim of altitis though) and I never regretted my choice.
