  3. I usually play redside, but I do have a couple of heroes that got up into high levels (one all the way to fifty, two years ago), and I've never been in Terra Volta, Eden, Troll Tunnels or the Abandoned Sewers. At least not that I recall, I may have peeked into one with a PUG or something and the memory didn't stick.

From time to time I think about digging out that dusty ol' Kat/Regen scrapper and poking around for these areas I haven't seen...

I'm all for zone re-working, such as they did for The Hollows - as opposed to a complete revamp. My scrapper I mentioned up there never got a chance to see the old Rikti crash site (I think he hit 50 on my first mothership raid), and I've always been a bit worried I might have missed a cool map or something. RWZ is great and all, but... I still wonder.

My arc DayJob Hell was meant for beginning villains and sort of addresses this issue, story-wise. It's a small grand scheme, but a beginning villain has to start somewhere.

Is this the sort of thing you were looking for, mention of arcs that fit that description? MCM reviewed one (The Descender, Arc ID 339222 by @Mr Squid) in his review thread that had such a great concept that I wish I'd thought of it first! It's on this page: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=144170&page=7

Ok, it's ending up being even less than that, just choosing the map for the first two missions.
It's funny how much time you can throw away looking for the right map, isn't it? I know I've spent over an hour (more than once!) going down through every "Sewers - City Of Heroes", "medium" and then every Sewers - City Of Villains", "Medium" before.

I usually make a list like "2, 7, 13, 14" of ones that look right from the layout and then setting them in place and walking in to make sure I like what I chose.
  6. I've always felt that way about the city maps, especially redside. From time to time I like to steetsweep just to take a look around. Considering the "more debt if you die outside" thing though, it's hard to get many people to spend much time doing that, maybe they should rescind it.
  7. The only one I can think of right now is my Widow, Operative SNAFUBAR. She's something of a cyber-terrorist within the Arachnos organization, "has yet to be caught for trolling on Lord Recluse's blog and will tell you she's the one who rickrolled him; whether or not that's actually true is, like any boasting online, up for debate." Or something like that.

I'm thinking of all my toons, she'd be the best bet to switch sides once GR comes out.
  8. Color me excited by the poster alone! Shame it's bedtime now or I'd give it a shot...

    Story #390089

This would be better posted in the Missions and Lore section under the "just for fun!" area of these boards. Plus, it's always nice to give out more info on the arc - what it's about, who's in it, recommended levels, etc. Go take a look there for examples of what I mean.

    Good luck with your arc.
  10. When I play an MM, I have a macro for my pets to throw confetti when someone dings.
  11. With movies such as Iron Man, Hulk, Spiderman, Dark Knight etc. etc. etc., I don't think it's right to say superheroes are a niche market. It's just that they need to find some way to set up CoH in a public way to cross-attract that interest. Outside of bajillions for advertising (dream on), I have no idea how they could swing that sort of interest though.

Notably the sense of direction, most of the mission briefings just set up the story and ask you to tell it, but don't actually tell what you're supposed to do.
I did choose to make the story a bit fractured, partly to see what could be done with "a string of memories" form of story-telling. I'm sorry it felt directionless to you however, I was hoping to still have the missions themselves (I.E. - what you did) unspool organically rather than hand out all the details before-hand (I did something like this in DayJob Hell and have caught a bit of flack for it there as well). When I get a chance to go back and take another look at it, I'll take a look at it from that angle and see what may be needed.

FYI, those were a couple of AE trick-spawns put in to allow for some offscreen dialogue ("Oh look, here comes a hero, thank goodness!") - set a boss to flee as soon as spawned, he speaks his piece and hits the door, out of your way. This was why the guards were mostly down in the tunnels instead of up in the building, those two speaking-bosses were taking up spawn points near the door. I'm not 100% happy about that, but it was the best I could manage.

Basically, Dead 6 is an ally in this mission and leads you to a large explosive. You realize it has already been disarmed, and you find an imprint of a body in the dust where the small explosive detonator had exploded. Dead 6 lies down in the imprint and you realize that's how Orange 6 died. And the final mission has your character remembering how you took revenge on the Council who placed that bomb.
Mission 3 flashes back to just after Mission 1, not 2; that one took place further back, when Dead 6 was still alive.

A Council patrol had a couple of lines about how they intended to reset the bomb to destroy the hospital, so that was part of the motivation I was placing for taking down the Council, along with the whole "they killed Orange 6" aspect of it. "Dead 6 has passed the torch to you to finish his unfinished business" was the angle I was after but seemed to have missed for you.

It is a unique device for the challenge, but it felt like a minor sidenote to the main Orange 6/Dead 6 storyline.
That's because it was, well spotted. My original intentions for the arc had nothing to do with "power loss", but when the challenge popped up I saw how I could work it in. Rabbitual Criminal was there from the get-go however, the "losing his power" just provided me a good hook to hang him on. I intended the arc to be nearly as much about him as Dead 6. I also liked the idea of trying to take a supposedly focal-point for a story and sidelining it - maybe that's why I didn't win, who knows?

Ha! You're a hero though, he showed you where the bomb was and that saved everyone; you were just being humble by giving him the credit. Because that's just how nice a hero you are.

I'm sorry the way I framed it didn't work for you; thanks for the play though and giving me some thoughts on what I can do to improve the arc, that makes you the real hero.
  13. Wow that was fast! Thanks for the kind words about it all, too. I could go in and take you review piece by piece but I try to avoid doing that as I think a work should stand on it's own without back-up explanations of why X didn't work so well, etc. Besides, you did a good job with it anyways.

I will say that the arc is pretty much a showcase for the customs. I came up with the idea and ran with it, then needed a story to go with it so it's indeed not terribly complex, the twist aside. And yeah, I too thought the longer I made it the less it's affect would be, so I kept it nice and short.

As for sequels... I have to admit I have considered it, but I'm currently sitting here with only two slots left and three stories I want to get to, sigh. Still, if we get to buy more slots later, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Again, thanks for taking a look.
  14. You might enjoy anything I've got listen in my sig. Everything in there currently has at least 4 stars; one has five, but only 3 plays (make of that what you will) and another was at five stars for a long while until only the last four plays (ditto).

I'm pretty sure they can all be soloed, even the "WickerWork Khan" one, as I've taken a stalker through it solo and was able to take down the AV (check your settings!). The second one has orange warning text that is a bug; I've PMed the devs and had that confirmed, so feel free to ignore it.

The order you see them is chronological. I won't say they got better as they went along or that my understanding of the AE system got better so that therefore the early ones a junk. But... in some ways they do get a bit more meaty as time goes by, I think. I'd personally rate my best works as the last three on the list, but I'm pretty happy with all of them (or I'd have unpubbed it by now).

So feel free to look down the descriptions in your AE window and do anything that strikes your fancy.
  15. My project is to think of something to post here...

Actually it's to fill out my eight possible slots in the MA. For the past number of months I've barely played at all, I've just been working on the arcs.

I started one but then I decided to drop it - it's okay, but nothing really cool, so it had to get dropped because I have few slots left. :P

I started another, then started yet another for Smurphy's challenge which I'm thinking I'll withdraw from that and just do with it what I want it.

I also have another I've been working on since about a month after the AE debuted (off and on) that is my attempt to answer the question "what sort of arc would David Lynch write?" (admit it, you've thought about this!) It's been through so many permutations, changes and cuts and I'm still not sure it's 100%. But I can hope.
  16. I was thinking BP at first too. I recently was reading up on them at Paragonwiki and supposedly the gods in said pantheon have been around for a long, long time, so it would make sense that they'd have some sort of face to show off here... maybe.

But these new guys do look techy.

A very sound argument for never deleting a toon without taking a look-see at them first.

  19. 2) 60 The Ghastly Secret of Dreams #38686

    Well a 60 isn't the world's best, but it's not a zero, so I'll take it!

Rikti. Mission 1 nothing special. Might as well have been a newspaper/radio. We liked how the packs were close to other packs and how each pack was rather tight.

I was thinking that mission was a bit thin, sure. It did have a boss placed in it and I can easily add more and some ambushes.

Mission 2. Like the Crocs. Crocogators bag of hitpoints with Dull Pain. Our team was stacked with single target damage and the Lts. and Minions would die real fast, but the bosses died like elite bosses.

Would you like to see the minions and Lts. beefed up, or do you think they're ok where they sit?

Enemies packs are tight, which is good. But packs are spread out from other packs and that leads to downtime. Not good. Sometimes we had to wander around a bit to find where to fight next.

That's how the sewers maps are usually laid out and I can see the problem. I can find another map to take care of that, perhaps some caves.

No ambush, no av, no patrols, no eb. Felt like another radio/newspaper mission.

Again, I can take care of that. I was sort of plotting from the view that stories start off and build, but I can see you'd rather they all be turned up to eleven - and I can accommodate you. It's funny, I wrote someplace in my notes "be sure every mission has at least one ambush", but for some reason I didn't, no idea why. I can see that the last two missions will probably need some beefing up to reach your expectations, I think, and I'll work on that. The last one did have an AV you missed though.

Mission 3. Roman ambush came to the door and killed me. I entered the mission first. I didn't move. It was one of those office entrances where you have to sorta walk around in a U to get from the door to the start, so there's no line of sight etc. to the first pack. Apparently there are some ambushers/patrols in mission 3 but they attacked at the door. Very not fun.

All my fault for not adding in text indicating a hot door and I feel kind of stupid that I hadn't gotten around to that yet - big apologies. The hot door trick was intentional on my part, "what's better for offing a teammate or two than a hot door?", right? Not so fun if you're that one guy who goes in first, no. Still, you might consider how useful that could be now that you know it's there (from my testing, you have about 10 to 15 seconds between their spawning and when they arrive at the door). But say the word and I'll take it out.

The team needed reforming and we weren't all that excited about keeping going.

    Sorry about that...

Didn't test the rest of it.

Very sorry about that, I was hoping for some feedback on the customs in the final two missions! You met a few of them in the back of the Croc mission, those flamey-headed guys standing around the generator, but I doubt that would have been enough to really base a solid idea on.

Someone mentioned how the writing is very strange. I mentioned how I wasn't going to read it. He copy/pasted some of the lines. The writing is very strange.

Yes, it is. Is that going to be a problem?

I think I see an explanation right there... I use my tickets in a rather haphazard fashion as I can't be bothered to remember where all the best rolls are and I still usually hit something like 20 mil by the time a toon hits 20th level.

It seems that after the latest patch this was a problem.Anything published before then works fine.
I see this happen on bosses as I'm whittling down there health on occasion, they drop some of their lines. That usually happens if said whittling process is going by very quickly. I think they still show up in the chatbox though, don't they?
  23. You know, it actually would be useful if they had something pop up that told you to do that. Then again I'd guess that if we had to click it to go away it'd get annoying after the nth time.
  24. The AE fixes and additions, especially the new maps.
  25. Frankenslotting can do amazing things, someone posted a good thread listing some various combos but I'm not sure where it is, sadly. I used some of the suggestions for an MM and was getting effects out of them like 101% ACC boosts on my pets (or at least very nearly that as the ED thing kicked in). The good news though is that you can figure these things out yourself using MIDS or just a piece of paper and some math. The only downside to this is that often the best IO for frankenslotting from a set X (for example the triples) is usually the most expensive of that set because others want it for the same thing as well as people who're building full sets.

Then again generics can be had for cheap fairly often I've found. On occasion I'll put in some low-ball bids and wait and usually get them, unless they're things everyone really does want like Damage.

If this is a 50 toon you intend to play and play and play, then I think I'd go for full sets and/or frankenslotting, depending on the powers you need to help out.
