Go Devs!!
This game has been a lot of fun for me in the past and will no doubt continue to be for some time to come.
We've finally had a break in our doom-drought (take a look at those goofball AE-XP rage threads) but as usual that don't mean a thing cuz this game's got that swing.
Thanks devs! -
This should be used across the forum. Perhaps add in a few positive colors such as "Black - I agree with this part", "Pink - That was pretty funny", etc. and we could all use "The FredrikSvanberg Code".

Quote:Aas has been pointed out, players who were exploiting are the ones who tend to drag in the term "farming" rather than using the much more accurate term "exploiting" which can muddy up the issue. Whether they are clueless about it, in denial or doing so on purpose is up in the air.Well, I think that a lot of the hostility between "farmers" and "non-farmers" ... comes from a lack of distinction between "legitimate" farming and "exploitative" farming. In many of these sort of discussions (i.e. arguments) I fail to parse that distinction myself.

So - problem all solved, we just need to be a bit patient. End of raging please, people.
-
If nothing else, removing XP from the AE would quieten down people who get heated over the fact there's less XP in it. Not sure why - seems counter-intuitive doesn't it? - but that seems to be the case.
I doubt they'll take that step though, thankfully. -

Quote:I'm really glad that someone always pops up and asks questions like these as quickly as they do/you did, because when I see stuff like that happening, I can come here and find out why. As I did just now.And more importantly, thanks for not making me feel like an idiot for asking that question! LOL!

Quote:Just be patient, I'm willing to bet this isn't the last word on AE.We had a lot of fun with it, WN, thanks for creating it. It was pretty much spot on in terms of what we were looking for.
Sadly, however, due to the latest "fix" to MA, it's very unlikely we'll be playing any more arcs. If we're going to get next to nothing for the effort, we might as well stick to the arcs we make for ourselves, designed specifically for our own characters and SGs (and the rare event).
Sorry, folks.
I'll still poke in this forum for appropriately-themed arcs when The Cape has an event going on (we got one coming up soon), but as far as general play goes, I'm completely done with AE. -
Personally my hope is more than faint. Even if I'm wrong on that I doubt I'll make any changes. It might affect what I write in the future, but cut stuff out of my old stories? No way.

After my initial "on noes!", I'm not so perturbed now. AE is still an on-going experiment that sometimes takes wrong turns, we can deal with that. I'll live, you'll live, we'll all live.
Except maybe the exploiters, they'll die a cold, lonely, XP&inf-less death. -
Quote:Good post, I was thinking some of this myself after I made mine above. The system isn't dead. It's just slowly slipping back into the domain of those for whom it was originally conceived and designed: Those that want to tell a good story. If that means that only a fraction of the entire playerbase is using it, that's just peachy. They're they ones that are enjoying it, and they'll continue to do so as long as there are stories to tell. The players that gamed the system for reward can just go back to the PvE portion of the game and continue on their merry farming way and everyone will be happier for it.
Calling for the Devs to just scrap their years of work on it because you can't gain full xp for a gimped mission would be funny if it weren't sad. Should they give up on PvP, or bases, as well, following your logic? How about shutting down the Rogue Isles once all the red players move over to Praetoria/Paragon? Let's follow this to its conclusion. See how silly it sounds?
The biggest thing to think about in regards to this sort of thing is that this game is being run as a business. If enough people were NOT feature X and that feature X was causing a problem or was broken, then they wouldn't bother investing any resources in repairing it (I'm thinking base-raids may fall into that category, but I can't be sure as I wasn't here in time to catch any of that). But I would think that if data-mining had showed a large majority of people were base-raiding, they would have invested resources to fix it right there, not just remove it.
Assuming that's true, since they have yet to remove the AE, "enough people" must be using it for them to justify working on it to their bean-counters. Hence it must not be a "waste of resources" to them. I don't care to PvP but I don't consider them working on that to be a waste of resources because obviously a lot of folks out there, "enough" like it. -
-
People seem to fall into two categories - "I hate the AE for reason X" and "I like the AE for reason Y". The first pretty much stay away from it and the second seem to be perfectly happy playing the AE as it is.
Seems to me like this is a perfectly acceptable way for things to go, why kill the XP? -
It affects my arc DayJob Hell (I'll bet, haven't checked for sure yet). During the course of the arc you interact with two diferent allies in two of the missions and then get them both in the last one so you can betray them (story-wise) at the end.
I'll probably not change anything in the arc as I like the story parts with them, but... well, if I ever decide I need to write another arc and I'm at my 8 cap, guess which one will get the cut? Still, makes me kinda sad. :/ -
Quote:That was kind of my point - people won't knowingly toss open platforms over their shoulders, they'll just be happy to sign up for things like iPads/Andriods, etc. that are by nature designed to be anti-open. Something of a back-door "getting rid of open platform" effect.Don't bring logic and common sense when talking about Apple products. If the fanboys don't come after you, Mr. Job's goons will.
You "neckbeard"ers out there may be right though, one never knows for sure. -
But that means you don't necessarily have to ever buy anything from the company that made it ever again! They hate that sorta thing...
I'm guessing that in 20 years times (if not sooner) nothing will be open.
The only app for an iPad-type object I'd want is one to play the game itself. Maybe; I prefer a real keyboard for typing. -
My regret is never having enough time to get back to all my altitis casualties and getting them to 50. If a toons' made it to say 20 or so, then chances are I love it, but so many of them sit there lost in the low 30s because a new toon came along and turned my head...
On the other hand, this gives me a chance to work on IOing them out cheaply as the months roll by.Still, these days I try to restrain myself from making a toon from every idea that pops into my head.

Quote:That's what I was thinking when I first skimmed the original post; once you repub, you usually have to close then reopen the MA window as well.Just so you know....Sometimes when I Republish it takes a few minutes for it to take effect. If I start the arc before this has happened I get the old version.
I've considered making a guide to saving MA arcs to cover problems like that, but I just don't have the time. :/ Then again, it's probably already over on Paragonwiki anyway. -
I always see someone in there when I walk in to work on my missions on Freedom (on Cap, yes). And that's in the morning on a week day. By the time I log for bed at eleven to noon (night shift worker), the place usually has a good half dozen or more people in there.
And yeah, starting your own team isn't too hard. I hate having the star too (I don't multitask fast enough it appears), but it's better than not playing a team when you want one. -
There's also a few good "Alice In Wonderland" based arcs floating about, but I can't recall any titles off the top of my head.
-
Thanks for posting these for us! And, to sound like a greedy little wretch, let me ask for MOAR! The new maps for the MA are one of the highlights of i17 to me.

I have two arcs you might want to check into. Although I think they're both marked neutral, they both tend to lean heroic in terms of story, especially the first one listed.
My arc TOO MANY BUNNY GIRLS! might fit your needs, but it can be pretty goofy, so it's sort of borderline, you might look at the description here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=190964 and decide for yourself.
My arc Against The WickerWork Khan! isn't too goofy but might not qualify for the "not-A list" modifier. You could check it out a bit more in depth if you'd like to here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=203192
Thanks for your consideration.
