Quote:Ah, my bad.You can't perfectly match Longbow with the costume creator but you can come close.
I think there are some CoT too? I know I once had a mish with a "CoT random boss" set and once in a while some really tough guy showed up. I changed it. -
Quote:I can answer this one: you can't do that.#2 I wanted to make a mission with longbow where they have the powers I pick. I can't figure out how to take a standard longbow and edit his powers? Is this even possible? I know it let's me create my own minions etc, but those don't look like longbow and I have to go through and make them all costumes. When I pick edit standard it only seems to let me edit the costume.
However, LongBow costumes are pretty easily manufactured with the costume creator, I think all the parts and designs are in there. Now you just have to figure out which ones. -
I'd want to be Captain Petrovich from Sharkhead so I can say "Arrrr!" a lot.

When my Bots/Dark MM is ready for her next mayhem, I sometimes have to wait and set aside close to an hour because by the time I leave (unless the clock catches me), there's not one target-able anything left.

Quote:That was nice of you, thanks!SPOILER ALERT: While *all* of my reviews have spoilers, this particular arc does have what I found to be a very cool twist (its not really a plot twist so much as a something to figure out) if youd like to avoid having it revealed, then dont read any further. Or, even better, play through the arc, then come back and read the review.
Quote:Oddly, this state of affairs wasnt alien to Pro Payne, who had already defended Panda Earth from the Rikti.
I am not the author of that arc (which is pretty good by the way). Funnily enough I had gotten the basic idea for this arc and was working it all out when that one got dev-choiced three days later. The more I thought about what I was after the more I decided mine was sufficiently different (the custom designs for one thing) that I didn't feel like I would be ripping them off with mine (and hopefully everyone agrees :P). I ended up restructuring some of mine too and focusing it elsewhere, so in the end it was all good.
Quote:(Actually she was just a free the ally if I recall correctly she didnt need to be led out.)
Quote:Oh, and the Pandaran search party looking for YinYin was led by a 5th Column robot.
Quote:I certainly admired the look of the Kahn though he actually looked a lot like a thin, robotic thing with a huge brain.).
Quote:It actually surprised me how much the choice of the Nemesis rifles combined with the somewhat archaic looking garb made we think the Pandaran guards were this worlds equivalent of the Nemesis army
Quote:Id replaced one tyrant with an even worse one... Why did I make the choice I did? Under YinYins rule, it was unlikely a better, less evil ruler would ever be powerful enough to challenge her the Pandans might have peace, but it would have come at a terrible price. Defeating YinYin and her army might lead to more fighting, but I was confident sooner or later another powerful being would rise or they might even progress one day to a point where they could solve their differences diplomatically. Either way, at least it provided a chance for a world not ruled by an evil tyrant.
Quote:And related to the neat twist were two very well designed custom groups I did find them a bit on the challenging side, but I wasnt being beaten down over and over again, so I was overall pleased with the difficulty. But more to the point, I really liked the visual designs (especially on the Kahn and YinYin), and the descriptions were, at the very least, pretty above-average. Overall, I found this to be a very well done arc.
Quote:the whole Panda World thing really did seem very, very abrupt. I really think that several optional clues in the first mission that give some backstory (e.g. an abbreviated history) would be very useful to make this particular Panda dimension come more alive.
On the other hand, I can see your point. When I get to going over this arc again with a fine-toothed comb I'll see what I can add in to help flesh it out more.
Quote:One final technical oddity: when I played the first mission, for some reason I was exemplared down to level 39 or 38, even though the level range for that particular mission said it went up to level 54. I have no idea why or how that happened, and if anyone else has noticed a bug like that in other arcs, but some of these bugs may be squash able by the author with some edits to update the arc.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.Thanks for playing and for the great feedback - without such feedback, the MA would be a much sadder (and typo-ridden place.

Quote:I'm all up on that idea, but one reason I'll point out for the Asian grading curve there is the sheer number of arcs. If I want to sit down and play a few arcs a week say, there is no dearth of 5-star arcs, "so why would I even bother dipping my toe into the 4-star loser end of the pool?"Right now giving anything less than a 5-star only further ruins the average of an arc and can even push a 5-star arc right out of that group and into the 4-star ghetto. It doesn't help either that so many people are treating this like an asian grading scale and that only "perfect" arcs can get 5-stars and are worth ever playing.
I don't like it either, but that's the way things seem to be working to me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, I'm very up on the idea of seeing groups of custom foes listed differently from standard foes that have just been repurposed. I have a lowbie villain arc I took some standard foes for, changed their color and desription, and now people searching for an arc to play might think I was a fool and put ACTUAL custom foes in it - and skip it.
Yes, I put a note about what's really going on with them into the description for the arc, but at, what is it, 300 characters? that's an awfully precious resource to expend due to poor labeling. -

'Fraid not. I've asked for it more than once on these boards, but so far, no hint that we might get it.

Quote:Some of what you said makes sense to me, but... so, putting up patches to stop exploits isn't the devs making themselves a "visible authority figure"? And I would point out that those cars are still driving along that highway, those drivers didn't stop using it, they conformed to what was expected of them by the authority figures, even when they didn't know for a fact they were being watched. There's a certain highway along my daily commute. The posted speed limit is 55, and, at the times I travel it, traffic volume is light. I will usually set the cruise control to a comfortable 60. Other cars pass me, some going so fast it seems like my own car is standing still. There is a stretch where the east and westbound lanes separate with a wooded area in the middle. This spot is a well-known speed trap where troopers lurk out of sight and lie in wait. It is so well-known that, as the traffic approaches this area, there is a marked change in behavior. Speeding drivers apply their brakes and, if there is room, settle into the right lane. They do this whether or not there is actually a trooper there. After passing through this zone, drivers resume their previous speeds.
The lesson here is that, in the absence of a visible authority figure and the real threat of consequences, people are more apt to engage in deviant behavior.
That's what the MA needs, not more patches. -
Quote:Ah, I was misremembering my iNumbers. For a moment there I was seriously questioning the taste of people who play arcs.Sorry CD5, you are missing something and your arc is not in that bunch. I15 was released on 6/28/09 and your arc was published pre-I15 in April 09. I15 brought several changes that unfortunately and undeservedly gave MA bad word of mouth which drastically decreased the number of player who use it.

Quote:Whoa, wait, wat? That means my first arc is in the select few (at about 137 plays) and that can't be right. I must be misreading or something... :P- Out of the 27,600 plus arc published and in the system since I15 was released only 12 story arcs have received over 100 plays, that's .0004347 of arcs. The arc that has the most plays is at 265 plays and rated 4 stars. The 5 star with the most plays has 165. A detailed breakdown of the data can be seen here.

I still recall that first time I ran across disguised Fir Bolg: I was traveling through Croatoa - it may have been my first time ever on the map - and I stopped short suddenly, "say, does that tree have eyes on it?" So, assuming I was about to be attacked, I got closer to check...
I'm not even sure I survived it, but I didn't mind one bit. This game needs more fun moments like that.

I'd like to suggest my arc DayJob Hell for villains 1-10 for your list, if I may. You may have already played it as it was nominated for one of the player-run MA contests and maybe you didn't care for it - I'm willing to risk it.
I'd also like to thank you for time you spent to put together this list. The next toon I start I'm going to try and run up the ladder on these when I can. -
So, out of curiosity, has anyone thought to PM Dr. Aeon about this thread and/or its topic? I know he might be reading it, but it couldn't hurt if no one has yet.

Quote:With you being Wrong Number, that in an of itself is a certain amount of advertising, I think.I have to mostly disagree and in fact I found almost the opposite to be true. For my current 5 stars 100+ plays arc at I did almost no advertising for of any type before it was at over 100 plays and then really only very select advertising. Also, I was away from CoX for an almost two month break. It was also released after I stopped doing reviews.
The no hard selling was an experiment on my part because in the past I had really "donned fur coats and twenty pounds of bling." What I found before was that by seeking reviews, plays, etc. I would often draw people to play an arc that maybe was not their cup of tea which resulted in all of my arcs settling at 4 stars. This time, beyond getting friendly MA authors and a few friends to play it (this got me to around 10 plays) I just let things happen organically. As I'm not Wrong Number - and probably don't write arcs that have such cross appeal - I do have to work hard in that fur coat and bling. Or did anyways; these days nothing seems to work except....
Quote:That way people who read the description and liked the idea of a Golden Age style comic book arc would play the arc before it got visible enough for the more general public to give it a shot just because it had 5 stars with a decent number of plays.).
Five stars means a heck of a lot, regardless of subject matter and history of plays. So does name appeal; I can't help but think that those of you who don't have to work at adverting are few and in that spot due to "who you are" at this point, on the fourms, in your SGs, what have you.
I think the fact that it's come down to that says a lot about the state of AE, which is starting to look bleaker and bleaker to me. If the devs lose the mass of only-semi-informed players, getting them to even give the AE "another chance" gets harder by the day. -
Quote:I still like putting them on it because I'm hoping that maybe I'll have rteported one that sent me that email only an hour ago and he'll get caught. Sure it only slows them down, but any pain for them I can inflict is a good thing, no matter how small.I consider putting RMT'ers on it a waste of space. They just constantly turnover their accounts anyway. I save my ignore list for the real players who deserve it... really, really deserve it... and I haven't hit the limit yet.
I think of it as trolling.

I have two low level arcs, both listed in my sig.
DayJob Hell is for villains 1-10 and gets them off to a roaring start by taking revenge on a crappy boss and betraying your lazy friends who'll never make it as a real villain like you will.
A Wake For Dead 6 is for heroes 5-10 and was created for Dr. Aeon's second challenge, detailing how you met a mysterious hero named Dead 6 who started you on your career by teaching you what it means to be a real hero.
If you play either of them, I hope you enjoy them. -
Quote:I'd say you have a lot to thank him for actually.I remember the day my dad brought a VIC-20 home for us, we had soooo much fun with that.
It wasn't until 20 years later it dawned on me how much it must have cost him! He said it was important for us to understand computers....I blame him for the fact that I'm a software developer now
(as I'm sure you do, of course)
My dad brought home a Trash-80 and I'm NOT a software developer now. -
I don't believe you, HoF is just a rumor they spread on the school gorunds!
(grats by the way)
-
My DayJob Hell arc will help you get your low-level villain jollies, especially if you bad day was, well, job related.
It's reveng-errific! > -
This is a pretty interesting thread. When AE first came out that the ratio of HoF arcs and Dev Choice would actually be reversed, but look where we are now. :P
Something should be done I feel about making HoF more common (funny as that phrase sounds). The idea of 100 5-star votes irregardless of other votes seems like a good idea to me except when I remember how few plays anything is getting these days. My first arc was published like a month or three after AE came out and has a total of I think 137 or something; no other arc of mine has more than 100, I think the next highest is like 70-something (and that was after two of them have been nominated in one of the player-run contests and receiving a number of favorable reviews too). And I think my last non-"friend-play" was close to a month ago or even more. It didn't help that my most popular got kicked from the five-star category into four-star purgatory after about 60 plays.
So maybe that's just me judging the idea by own yardstick, I'll admit. But they do need to add something in to make people want to play the actual stories instead of just farming or exploits. Heaven knows what though. -
-
Quote:The more events that get set up on a tight schedule like that, the fewer I get to play because of my hours.
-
Quote:But-but-but-but...!!More automation will only create more holes for exploiters to slip through, and plugging them all will ruin the AE for legit uses. The collateral damage you're doing to legit arcs is not worth it. Quit wasting your energies playing the numbers game with farmers and exploiters. You will not win.
Well, you said it, not me.
