I agree with the replies about LOST and The Prisoner. Then again, I've never seen LOST (and probably never will).
Heck, after knocking those off the list I can't think of any other shows to add, which means this would be a 'top eight' list which means that yes, these things are just a matter of opinion and silly.

Maybe the fact we're here and not in those other, more grind-intensive MMOs is part of the answer you're not seeing?

Quote:Here's my view of the big picture; hopefully I'll be wrong:BINGO!
What a lot of people complaining about the trials and lack of other content are not thinking about is the big pictures. IE what is going on in the overall game development. (and so on edited for length)
; by stating they will always have another end-game trial or whatever in the pipeline, this isn't going to change much, far as I can see. When I log in, I see about 80%+ people currently online are playing their 50s.
There will be new lower level content of course, but I'm going to make the prediction that it's popularity will be like the seasonal events - 'the new shiny' for about a month, then the usual ghost town the rest of the game is, while everyone goes back to their 50s*.
Those of us who dislike playing 50s (bored of the character after about a hundred hours) or speed-runs through repeating content are going to be sort of left out in the cold, or are going to have to get used to soloing more often.
*The funny part is how common it is to see people post about being bored by the seasonal events after one week while relatively few argue the same about repeating end-game material or SF/TFs. Maybe they should attack some serious merits or whatever to the seasonal events - we'll never hear such complaints again. -
Quote:Oh, I can be that pretentious - go check out my arc When The Words StopNobody got my Kafka joke? Come on guys, you can be more pretentious than this.

- but I haven't read that book - lots of his work, but not that one. Maybe if you had linked to something comics related, like "Justice League #147" or something..
Myself, I'd have tried for a Heart Of Darkness riff... -
Thanks to Demon Shell and BackFire for these write-ups! These were the sorts of fluff/info I was hoping for from Zwill, but I do recognize that his defined job may not allow time for such frippery
.
I think the way info gets blocked from players other than team leaders was probably something they already knew about; if the rest of the game allowed it to be shared more easily, I'm sure we'd have that too. Whether or not they can write up some code to change that is something I hope they're looking into now.
My experience with this limitation just means I make a mental note about arc X to replay it again later solo. Maybe this should get tossed out to the inexperienced masses as something for them to consider - not the best option, but one we have right now. -

Quote:I agree, the writing on the ones I've seen is usually head and shoulders above the older stuff. I'd really like to see them get a chance to re-do the others.I do love my tips, I do. They may be small bites of story but they allow my heroes to be heroes and my villains to be villains. And my various collection of shades of grey in between be nice shades of grey in between.
Now if only the same philosophy could be applied to every area of the game.

Congrats indeed, sketchy top hat included!
I still have yet to hit 2 billion myself as I
1) market slow, when bored
2) keep spending it and sending cash to hungry alts
I've thought about emailing cash back to my main market toon just so I claim I hit the cap, but that feels like cheating. But considering that all the alts I care about have over a hundred million and can work themselves into the slotting want for them, I'm not complaining.
-
I dunno how this arc of mine will fare as it's really best for solo play (so much to read!), but what the heck:
When The Words Stop - arc #494099
Big thanks to you guys again for running this contest.

Quote:Alting helps a great deal, I really like the characters I make. Only playing for an hour or so when I can play no doubt helps too, leaves me with a twinge of regret for logging off. When it does gets old, I hunker down and work on a new MA arc (and at an hour per session, that's a looong time). Plus I'm not even close to having done everything in the game, all the story arcs, every tip mission, etc - I've never seen the Eden map for cryin' out loud!Honestly, considering how repetitive this game is, I can't imagine how you'd stand it.

As for the movie thing - that's just me, not everyone. I know some people can be all "I've seen Star Wars 35 times! ^^", but I'm not one of them. Heck, I love Frank Zappa too, but after having heard his stuff enough times to actually hear it note for note in a dream (true story), I just don't listen any more; for a film, that's usually about 4 viewings before boredom sets in. I may have one of those personalities that requires novel input more than the average bear for all I know... -
Quote:Yes, only three times! You did it only three times and its old for you? Umm, I really have no response to that.
I feel the same way about movies I really like - 3rd time in, I'm starting to know the film, to have it memorized - thus it's getting dull to re-watch it.
This game has always been fun for me due to alting and the plethora of content all over the place. When I do end up replaying some of it ("Defeat Tindelos and guards!"), at least it's coming at pretty spaced out intervals (like 2 months at a time) and it's over in ten minutes or so. This "end- game content", not so much. -
Quote:Ah, we learn a lot from this, such as: the devs are only playing one arc a Thursday (at least I didn't see that), which means after a month they'll only have tried out four before awarding the new DC.So for this Mission Architect Thursday we played Arc #60197 - Becky's Revenge.
It was, like, totally awesome, fer sure.
Have you played this arc before? What did you think? Thanks for the fun Protector!
Note: this isn't necessarily the Dev Choice arc, just letting you all know which one we played
.
Don't forget to keep nominating Arcs!
Thanks everyone!

Can you please give us any more info, Zwill? Which server, how the players react, etc.? That sort of stuff may not tell us much, but since I couldn't be there, it'd be fun to read.

I'll second that. I watched (well, listened to) a few minutes of the linked vid and gave up after reading some of the stuff I found posted here (especially in the comments section):
http://astrobob.areavoices.com/2011/...roy-the-earth/
Not that I was giving any serious credence to the vid anyways. I actually gave up before that, but I had to be sure, can't trust those reptilians! -
There can be no arguing, fudging or bargaining with the tournament. It may seem a burden, but it is also its own reward. SteelClaw is a crazy man on it's mission and he likes it that way.

Quote:I think they said they'd post a thread to highlight the new choice and why they chose it; I'm guessing it will be sort of like the old ones Doc A used t make for them. (As for the risk of drowning in farms, why do you think they asked us to suggest good arcs?If this is being done... shouldnt we get a mentioning here of the latest picked DC after they are picked! Or are the devs also drowning in farm missions when they try and select an arc?
)
I'm also guessing we won't see one of those until the end of July as they seem to be choosing to play arcs on Thursdays for a month and then selecting one of those. -
Quote:The use of the term BS on my part was bad; my excuse is I was starting to write out my post and then looked up to see I was a couple of minutes late to leave for work, so I didn't edit myself. Remember: quick posting can be bad, kids!I am sorry you took this to mean that I was trying to BS you. I am trying to express my thoughts in an orderly manner, and could of just said something along the lines of "Youz all is crazy for not likin this new stuff. Now shut it" (NOTE: this is not an invitation to quote the preceding 13 words).
And what exact change in the game are you referring to? because the fundamentals of the game are still the same: team play.
The reasoning that "you can still do anything you want in the game" which is often tossed out in these discussions is fine up to certain a point, and that point is where I log in and see that a good 80% of people online 50s and I was hoping to do some casual PUGing below 50 like I used to without problem. Playing below 50 these days (for me, at my hours) mostly means soloing or pulling teeth to form my own team - which I can do but never had to do in the past. That's the change I've seen in the game that I dislike.
Things may change, but I've never been big on the previous strike force stuff as it was and as time goes by the devs just seem to keep throwing more of that our way and making it the most rewarding (loot-wise) to do. I think I've done the new one that starts on Sharkhead (over there by the ferry? can't remember the name of it off-hand) three times now and I'm pretty much done with it. It may reward me nicely and all that but to keep running a small set of these things day after day, even just a few times a week would get really old for me. (Same thing goes for playing a 50: I only have two. I enjoyed back in their day but these days it's just dull to play them.) -
Not bad, you?
Running this through the BS translator, I keep getting "Sure, you can solo anytime you want!" and/or "Sure, you can be forced into leading a half-size team to do the older content anytime you want!" Both reflect a change in the game, which did not use to be like that. This may still be a temp fluke, but with new end-game Free-player temptations to sub to the game being provided with every issue, I doubt it.Quote:CoX is NOT becoming a "raiding game". This game just celebrated 7 years about two months ago. Of that time, only about the last year has had these incarnates show up. There is still SIX YEARS of team and solo play available to everyone right now, and once Freedom hits STILL available for everyone. -
Quote:I've long believed and said much the same to people complaining about whatever the latest update brought us. The thing that disappoints me about this "another iTrial every issue" is that nothing has ever been "every issue" before. No matter what the devs bring us, it won't please anyone. I'm not a RP'er therefore Pocket D to me was a complete waste of time. But yet I continued to pay my monthly sub as I know some things I will not like nor use. So the Anit-iTrial players out there will just have to deal with it as I and many others have

The devs are going to be spending time putting more of something I don't particularly care for into the game every issue, which means less time for something potentially might like.
I know I'm not all players and some really do like this stuff, but pick one topic you don't like in this game and then imagine if the devs dedicated themselves to putting more of that in every issue. Every freakin' issue, more PVP, AE, combat-less pets, whatever you personally don't care about.
You'd be a bit annoyed and spend time wondering if you're wasting your money too. But it's more fun to kick the minority of us who speak our minds on that, I know. -
I'll second this as it would be faster than the currently announced "once a month" method.
(I predict that the phrase "that time of the month" will come to mean the kvetching of players who didn't get it that month and feel the devs should hand out more... and I'll probably be one of them.
)

Quote:If you haven't found an answer to this yet:Part of the problem here is that some missions may have corrupt data - at least some entries seem to have corrupted data in the error display and then any name is considered invalid, even hitting the keyboard at random.
I had this same problem. What's happening here is that no matter what you change the name to, the file name remains what it was originally. Change your guy "Dr. Doom" to "Doctor D-Stuff" and it won't save. You have to change the file name itself as well, that's found down at the bottom. Iirc, you have to change the save path, then you can change the file name.
I think I posted something about this in this thread which may be technically more exact, I've forgotten the details now. :P -
I think they started to drop in popularity once radio/newspapers came out becuase they were faster to get and run and there were no moments of "GAH, another fed ex mish!" involved with doing a pre-set arc (plus that whole "done these a jillion times already" thing). Most of the PUGing I do these days I never see them run, can't recall the last time I did see one.
The fwaythat only the mish holder gets the merits bugs me too, I was kicking around an idea where the devs could set up a way for us to sign up for an arc as if it were a ST/TF, that functioned under those same parameters ("no one can be invited while it's running" and so on) and let all the players get those merits. Dunno if the idea has any legs though. -
Disliking Defenders is just how I roll. I've tried a few and never got them past 10 iirc. The only one I have still is a FF/DP that I fought to get up to where she is (sort of abandoned), 36th level, because I liked the concept so much (trivia: she's Officer Slook from my Ghastly Secrets arc). Even soloing with the newish damage bonus she feels weak.
But I know it's mainly just me. I already have more toons than time, so I can live with it.
