“Star Trek” is a space opera. like episode III or serenity.
the amazing effects were wonderful. Enterprise looks sleek and new.
Gene Roddenberry's years are over its not about black and white but it enters into grey areas like BSG.
    Past 10 movies
use to repeat same old story. The crew the enemys.romulan borg klingon, 1984 etc...

    STar Trek (2009)
is starfleet academy ( using new actors)
As a story idea, this is sort of brilliant and saves on invention, because young Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty and the rest is like a warm coffee in front of a hot fire.

    Problems
a black hole is,not done correctly
lifeboats can save the crew, despite the vast distance from home base.

Chris Pine, as James Tiberius Kirk does well chews scenery just right but.....he looks a little small to be JT Kirk.

    Special Effects

    The special effects are great.
    In Closing
I understand it is not real..
BUT the character types areso good you forget its not the original cast.
The new movie essentially intends to reboot the franchise with younger characters and carry on as before. The movie deals with Space opera and they do a GREAT JOB
the end music is great ( first star trek music)
    Awesomeness
    i want sulus sword!

*REvised after Sidney told me i copied too much of Eberts work this is more original i did it after coffee so might sem hyperactive*

“Star Trek” as a concept has voyaged far beyond science fiction and into the safe waters of space opera.
The Gene Roddenberry years, when stories might play with questions of science, ideals or philosophy, have been replaced by stories of loud and colorful action.
Like so many franchises, it’s more concerned with repeating a successful formula than going boldly where no “Star Trek” has gone before. But with a new crew

The 2009 “Star Trek” film is starfleet academy ( using new actors) using time travel to explain a cast of mostly the same characters, only at a younger point in their lives, sailing the Starship Enterprise. As a story idea, this is sort of brilliant and saves on invention, because young Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty and the rest channel their later selves.

Don’t get me wrong. This is fun. And when Leonard Nimoy himself returns as the aged Spock, encountering another Spock (Zachary Quinto) as a young man, I was kind of Holy moly! Time travel exists!

Time travel as we all know, is impossible in the sense it happens here, but many things are possible in this film. Anyone with the slightest notion of what a black hole is, or how it behaves, will find the black holes in “Star Trek” hilarious. But stop me before I get started. I mention these details only to demonstrate that the movie raises its yo-yo finger to the science, while embracing the fiction.
Apart from details from the youths of the characters and the Spock reunion, it consists mostly of encounters between the Enterprise and the incomparably larger and much better armed Romulan spaceship from the future. It’s encouraging to learn that not even explosions and fires can quickly damage a starship. Also that lifeboats can save the crew, despite the vast distance from home base.

That would be because of warp speed, which for present purposes consists of looking through an unnecessary window at bright lights zapping past. This method of transportation prevents any sense of wonder at the immensity of outer space and is a convenience not only for the starship but also for the screenwriters, who can push a button and zap to the next scene. The concept of using warp speed to escape the clutches of a black hole seems like a recycling of the ancient dilemma of the rock and the hard place.

Young Spock is deliberately taunted in hopes he will, as a Vulcan, betray emotion. Because Zachary Quinto plays him as a bit of a self-righteous prig, it’s satisfying to see him lose it. Does poor young Spock realize he faces a lifetime of people trying to get a rise out of him? Nimoy, as the elderly Spock, must have benefitted, because he is the most human character in the film.

Chris Pine, as James Tiberius Kirk, appears first as a hot-rodding rebel who has found a Corvette in the 23rd century and drives it into the Grand Canyon. A few years after he’s put on suspension by the Academy and smuggled on board the Enterprise by Bones McCoy (Karl Urban), he becomes the ship’s captain. There are times when the command deck looks like Bring Your Child to School Day, with the kid sitting in daddy’s chair.

Uhura (Zoe Saldana) seems to have traveled through time to the pre-feminist 1960s, where she found her miniskirt and go-go boots. She seems wise and gentle and unsuited to her costume.

The special effects are slam-bam. Spatial relationships between spaceships are unclear because the Romulan ship and the Enterprise have such widely unmatched scales. Battles consist primarily of jump-suited crew members running down corridors in advance of smoke, sparks and flames. Lots of verbal commands seem implausibly slow. Consider, at light warp speeds, how imprecise it would be to say “At my command ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...” Between “2” and “1,” you could jump a million galaxies.

I understand the Star Trek science has never been intended as plausible.. I understand that the character types are as familiar as your favorite slippers. But the franchise has become much of a muchness. The new movie essentially intends to reboot the franchise with younger characters and carry on as before. The movie deals with Space opera
the end music is great ( first star trek music)
    Awesomeness
    i want sulus sword!

Am I weird for actually liking this movie? I know there's always a barrier between "diehard fan of the original comic" and "regular schmoe who only has a passing knowledge of the universe." I was never real big into X-men so I don't know how many unfaithful or contradictory moments there were. As a general action flick, I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

    [/ QUOTE ]
no not wierd im guessing a "small percentage" of people will like im just saying its not my cup of tea. it could have been lot better and im disappointed that the writers thought so little of us
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Just got back from it. It was pretty bad. Definitely felt like the sort of thing where they cranked out a lot of action figures and promotional material, and then remembered at the last minute to have a script written. I wish I hadn't paid to see it, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. Our money will only empower them to do this again... only next time to Magneto.

    hell love it
theres enough action for a 12 yr old
  12. Wolverine _ C(-)
This prequel shows the Marvel superhero entering the Mutant X program and making himself—and his sharp, shiny claws—indestructible to avenge the murder of Lynn Collins.
    Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth
    Danny Huston as William Stryker.

Jackman tried. He certainly looked raring to go, he looked buffed and his acting was good.
    HOWEVER

generic explosions, motorcycle stunts and lots of yelling. Not as good as "The Dark Knight" or "Iron Man" . It plods instead of pounces. Jackman adds desperate resolve to Wolverine's rage—whether he's flashing his deadly fingernails or leaping naked into a waterfall. What lingers in this overstuffed, convoluted bore, though, is stuff like three scenes of Wolverine and Victor charging at each other (enough!) and about 15 false endings that practically take up enough time for their own movie. some comic relief but few and far between.
I would hope this would be the end of X men as a movie and they work on a New X men but i dont think so....
  13. If at first you don’t succeed
    Rated : 3 stars
    Mission 1
If At First You Don't Succeed Part I - The Electronics Thief catch op trucco
STrenghts: good name. like mishes like this with capture =). Map is kind of cofusing but very logical in why it s that map.
Limitations: maybe custom make trucco into a mm?

    Mission 2
    Part 2- zig breakout
Strenghts- prisoners! Yay I love them were they custom or originals?
Limitations: third zig map ive seen seems overused a lot. Seemd too easy to end I just found nails and vanquished.
    Mission 3
    Find gamma ray
Strengths good name. arachnos are underused but again maybe custom to be harder.
Limits * yawn* old office seen thousands of times. Once I went tru first I was bored and stealthed this one. He was very easy to kill he was only a lt.
my review of mission 4 and 5 mysteriously disappeared

  14. Revenge of Frostfire
    RATING: 4 stars
    Mission 1
    Rescue Frostfire ( timed!)

Strenghts: im still laughing at the contacts name. great map. Longbow yay!
Limits: felt like it needed a boss or a eb. If u don’t know the map hard to find frostfire I knew it because on previous review I commented about how hard to find last two bosses. Art attack was better concept but froistfire is underused.

    Mission 2
    Atlas
Strenghts: I love police station maps . Yay finally get to arrest flux!

    Limits: make flux harder.
    Mission 3
    Atals park
Strenghts felt a strength in this is frostfire is really sympathetic. You kinda wanna help him out
Limits: felt cut scene would have helped and more outdoor maps
    Mission 4
    Stop Frostfire
Strenghts: makes sense. Good map. Usually don’t like defeatall but this one isn’t too bad .Frostfire extremely hard to solo.
Limitations: maybe customize the outcast so higher level? I would have done better again st frost fire if could have used lvl 30 powers
  15. I got these left then ill start another series

    RATING: 4 stars
    Mission 1
Enter the combat simulation Talos Island

Strenghts: good name. intrigued by possibility.Nice map. Also loved name of the targets
Limits: felt like it needed a boss or a eb. Ranged and melee are good targets but I felt you needed something stronger. Felt like I was farming

    Mission 2
Search files, avoid security Find Crey's files on you
Strenghts: yay crey. No one ever uses crey. Dazzled by how good the choice of villans was in this map. Great map. Enjoyed the enemy in this one.
Limits: using dark powers for robots. Imo should be energy auras and super strengths maybe electricity maybe fire maybe energy might even be stalkers with nrg punch. Set an ambush after each clue is found might make it funner.
    Mission 3
    Rescue the Doctor Talos Island
Strenghts: good name don’t have many doctor rescues in game mostly lawyers and FEMA workers. Yay wherehouse map. Nice way to make it unstealthable yay crey
Limits: too few ambushes id add more. Maybe diff map but this one is good
  19. i liked the story and wa really into finding the escapees just when i ran into that last two problem ( no idea how to fix) it was frustrating
    thanks foir the interesting story
  20. Win the Past, Own the Future
    RATING: 3 star
    Mission 1
Discover the identity of the escapee 6 key villains to defeat
Strenghts: good map! Love the zig. Freaks and dr vahs and malta wow nice multi use of villans. I knew dr vahs was a mm good power making.
Limits: maybe make clockwork queen? King been overused. Couldn’t find the last 2 key villans. Quit after first mission because of it. Might want to name them in nav
  21. EXAMPLE 2
Arc Name: Dr. Duplicate's Dastardly Dare
    Arc ID: 1218
    RATING: 5 stars!!!!!
    Mission 1
    Defeat Dr Duplicate
Strenghts: good name.nice map. Love names. Good idea giving each different powers. Highly enjoyable
Limits: i enjoyed it a lot
  22. FOR EXAMPLE

Death for dollars (solo) / Death for Dollars Extreme ( team heavy AOE)
    RATING: 4 stars
    Mission 1
    3 prizes 3 bosses
Strenght: nice use of villans. I thought names were creative and I liked how the beginning had START. Felt like a video game. The ambushes surprised me. No spelling errors! Love the name death for dollars sound like a spaghetti western.
Limitations: I didn’t like the use of the word KILL. For some reason there were more glowies than not and I couldn’t avoid not doing the optional
    Mission 2
Destroy as many opponents as you can for REAL CASH! 3 Fabulous Prizes up for grabs! (optional), Defeat Nukelotron!
Strenghts: love the game show aspect. Good use of multi color type. Great spelling no errors found. Im very interested in it. Robots looked better than one devs had for AV arc.Like the speech by gameshow host. Very entertaining ending
Limitations: sort of seen this mission before maybe change it to out of lab like maybe a RWZ map or casino.Kept wondering what you meant by real cash.would change replicator to something else name was very good but a little cliché. Too many replicators at the end might want to spread them out
    Mission 3
Complete the Final Round! Steel Canyon
Strenghts: NEW CAR I was excited. Was a bonus prize too after a trip to st martial! Yay finally get to arrest Chip! Ozone Jones! I love the name
Limitations: arachnos map I hate it. Change custom to like 1000 chips and 1000 hostess love the hostess btw but was tired of replicators
Overall Comment: overly enjoyable would play again but problem I had was the arachnos map and the replicators. Also I never got a new car!

i will usually 3 to 4 star unless exceptional and i would never one star an arc unless really bad spelling
