Quote:Lacks secondary effects? Next time I use it I'll be sure to quit stunning, terrorizing....Because it lacks secondary effects and has the weakest AOE of all the melee sets? It also has no exotic damage... I can make a list if you are really interested.
Weakest AOE? Points over at MA. Go complain about that one. Or ClawsandEffect pointed out DM...
Look, you don't like it? Don't play it and quit whining on day two from release. If (IF) there is any merit to your complaints the Devs will turn things up in data mining.
As it stands every set is different in ability, focus, and ways to shine. Learn to live with that and get off my Street Justice. -

Quote:But really, the margin of difference in your scale is pretty small.Lets say for example
A top set
B good set
C middle set
D poor set
E very poor set
So lets say SS is A, Elec is B, StJ is C, Kinetic melee is D, and Em is E
I expect Paid sets to be B's.
A's gets into pay to win and C's gets mixed in the Bleh.
Im not expecting an A, but it needs to be a B which it isnt.
My issue was with the numbers which I couldnt see
And what factors go into it? Just DPS? Which AT(s)?
Pretty Sure Dark is right up there and not mentioned... Oh, wait, AOE was the problem... but they can't all have AOE... balanced with ST level, rech, end,... never mentioned.
Not to mention that KM isn't a poor set at all in my experience...
And if they start making paid sets always A or B on this - biased - scale, then I think the revolt would be far worse than a handful of people demanding a refund.
Quote:I also dont expect a refund, but I do choose to excercise my right to complain about what I see as a bad performing set that didnt live up to the cost of it.
BEam was a very solid B, maybe a B+
It's funny because I would have just said "yes, you did" and been all indignant, because your message seemed so clear.
But I went back and read this thread again, and unless I missed it you never actually asked for your money back. You say this alot, though:
And I stand 103.56% behind Arcanaville's post in opposition. -
Quote:And to your point, it wouldn't take me long to go find posts of people complaining about how much they dislike beam rifle....YES this is the point.
Not everyone is going to be happy with a purchase, they need to put a refund system or be bombarded by these kinds of posts every time they put out a paid set that isnt near the top.
Beam is probably the 3rd strongest ranged set only behind fire and archery.
Quote:But buying a set without knowing what you get because they choose to hide the power numbers in the most obscure place possible.
I've been using it since they added the ability to drag and drop recipes and powers onto the chat bar. It helped drive a lot of early Incarnate ability discussion, and is also how people got a sneak peak at Staff Fighting details.
Quote:Not right.
Different people will have different opinions.
TO me this set was NOT worth my money.
Likewise, for others, the set is about far more than how wonderful it's AOE is... the set is just fun!
And that makes it worth the points for me (and apparently others). -
A random thought popped into my head as I was thinking about my shiny new alt (/StJ tank).
Why is there no tanker Tier 9 that functions as a 'grand taunt'? I was thinking, if what really sets tanks apart is their taunt/durability then shouldn't a Tier 9 leverage/relish/pop that?
Consider [Omega Maneuver] for crabs. That drops a taunt aura and pulls targets to it before it goes "boom". You could have a tank nuke that does something similar - but self as the taunt fulcrum.
Or just something that adds a bonus taunt aura on the tank - long range and maybe exceed the normal aggro cap briefly. Drastic action to save the team, but maybe with a resist or def debuff as you make yourself more vulnerable to do it...
Probably other angles too.
Just food for thought... or the trash bin... whichever... -
Does it have the leet n4mb3rz...?
no
But the set is fine in my book. It plays differently, it looks cool,
Totally worth the money, a far as I'm concerned. (YMMV and all that.)
Buyer's remorse? Shouldn't have run after the new shiny until you saw under the hood. -
Quote:My SR/StJ tank is at 9.I have a StJ/Invuln brute at level 14, trying to decide what combos to use on a Scrapper and Tank.
Leaning toward SR for a tank and Energy Aura for a scrapper. Any reason I should reconsider either of those choices?
Based on my various beta tests, I liked the SR/ because it is low maintenance, and lets attention stay focused on the combos. (That and I just wanted at least one SR/ tank...)
From a concept perspective, the pairing sets up a nice natural origin character, and if you go minimal FX on SR/ you get a clean/natural look when playing.
From a more numbers oriented perspective, it has a ton of places for LotG +rech, and thanks to the Sig Arc and various alts, I have 5 of them at level 25 waiting to slot with SOs to keep the combos cooking. -
Dude, just within my first page of the thread:
Quote:Nuclear energy is kinetic energy however comics don't always treat it as such just like sci-fi stories that differentiate between projectile and energy weapons... Most "energy" weapons are projectile weapons
Quote:... also I'm talking comic physics not real physics. Comics don't view energy as kinetic/potential but rather kinetic as being one of several types of working energy. If this wasn't the case Shaw would have a lot of problems with the whole absorbing kinetic energy with things like hearing or seeing... or staying on earth in general.
Quote:So instead of reading what you found you decided to say "i got x number of results" because if you were to type strong nuclear potential energy you get all of 1 or 2 actual results that use that term... Now after rethinking it I thought what if I typed in "nuclear potential energy" with the quotes and then i used it with strong and weak... well the first search turns up very little actual results but links to 5 million-ish sites... while with the quotes you get 86,000 for the first and roughly 6 each for the other two. Considering you got the former... well. Yeah that tells a lot about what you're willing to go on.
Quote:You think not lying, not harassing, paying attention to the wording and the context... is not polite discussion?
I will not assume the reading comprehension or attention to detail of others. I will try to more clearly, and politely state my position. I would not call them liars, or otherwise aggressively speak down to them or call them names.
Sadly, I have been paying attention. And that may be the problem. -
You have referred to comic physics repeatedly as what you are talking about. If that isn't what you mean, you aren't as succinct and clear as you think.
Quote:Most people have never heard the words strong/weak nuclear potential energy and it takes quite a bit of searching to find those terms. Most people associate Nuclear energy with the energy that is produced from a nuclear reaction and most strongly with that reaction that comes from nuclear power plants.
As an example of fact, the Google return was within seconds to present me 5 million results. I am not going to spend the necessary time to read about them - because it really doesn't matter. If I where, there are many .edu sites included in the results so I could learn a lot, I am sure.
Quote:Yes, there are polite ways to discuss things. They start with not lying, not harassing, paying attention to the wording and the context, stuff like that. I'm not the one that is doing those things... you guys are.
Or wait do you mean by polite someone saying something wrong while they are "correcting" you and you graciously saying that you were wrong when you're not just because the other person is more liked? -
You continue to miss that you may be talking about how you think comic physics works but Arcanaville is solidly keeping to the real world.
Quote:Oh, and nuclear explosion and its many and varied results does not equal nuclear energy. I've never thought so, so either I'm not 'most people', or you could quit claiming to speak for me.You still don't get that it is very clear what I was talking about considering the context and most people's use of the word nuclear energy. I've also directly stated it several times now so the rest of whatever you are going to say is irrelevant.
Frankly, there are ways to politely discuss a difference in interpretation of facts and opinion that supports civil discourse when a disagreement arises. Then there is... well,... -
I was working a nice summary of this fun thread to point out where there may be someone who can't get comic versus real world physics straight in their arguments - switching back and forth just isn't a good way to bolster a position (and, incidentally, neither is mixing in rudeness as a debate tactic).
But I decided it wasn't worth it.
Thank you for the humor today, and... well, that is all. -
Quote:I am Chyll, and I approve every bit of this post.Exactly. Concussive Force, as another poster said.
Actually, I think we've covered all of the salient points:
- Shaw can absorb concussive force.
- The more concussive force he absorbs, the stronger, tougher, and faster he gets.
- If he were attacked by a murderous but otherwise unprepared Hulk while he himself were unprepared, he would get one-shot-killed.
- If he straight up fought the Hulk, the Hulk would eventually get strong and angry enough to one-shot kill him.
- Shaw might be able to engineer circumstances where he would defeat the hulk, but it would take outsmarting the Hulk (who is a part-time genius).
- The Movie suggests that Shaw can absorb nuclear energy to some degree. -
-
I tried it brute and tank. Can't explain why, but the crunchy-pow feel of the set was more fun with my tank...
My SR/StJ is licking it's chops to get in game. -
The premiere was one of the best openings to any Star Trek series, IMO.
We get to meet some scattered members of the Federation - people we know are eventually going to go on and do important things, but when we meet them they haven't really, yet. This is emphasized by Picard and company passing through, contrasting the 'cream of the crop' with these unknown/undefined characters. That contrast is what helped hook me at first.
Then, the raw anger of Sisko towards Picard for Wolf 359 was... still is, just so compelling. It added layers to both of the characters that was so meaningful. (As a story arc, I really enjoy watching in order the STNG Wolf 359 eps, then Picard's visit home to his family shortly afterwards, followed by the Sisko-Picard encounter at the start of DS9.)
Wrap it all up with the baseball discussion between Sisko and "the Prophets" re: time and peoples place in it... magnificent. -
Quote:The key part of that is the word was.It was my understanding that Des was a "C/D-List" style character that doesn't make many appearances and is sometimes a plot device. However, making her into the Carnival Queen implies that she's far more important to the lore. Not to mention, the necessity of having her alive makes her more important than the player.
This is, clearly, how she moves beyond the C/D List and becomes A/B on her personal heroic journey. In a way it is kind of cool that within the game, as we progress in levels we get to see an NPC also progress and reach heights of power, rather just being presented with something like "here is Statesman, he's important".
Now, to your point, would there have been a better choice... probably, but then it wouldn't be someone we watched develop. And... which Yin? Primal or Praetorian? -
Repeating: I cannot in good conscience call it a nerf for a power that never saw live.
Quote:Did anything else change about it to balance the radius change? You didn't say anything re: damage, endurance cost, rech time,....I am looking over Street Justice numbers after today's patch and I noticed a few things changed. The AOE is now down to a 6 foot radius it was around 8.
Quote:Man, you guys sure are making it sound like it's certain that Street Justice is coming out on Tuesday. Better not be getting my hopes up for nothing. :P -

Quote:Which seems to counter the way he is killed in the movie... unless it isn't a defensive toggle and getting mezzed turned it off...Impacts that would normally damage him he absorbs at some rate less than 100%, Say 99% as a guess/example.
So if the Hulk smashed him with 90 tons of of force and he were unprepared, he would experience 1800 pounds/900kg of force all at once and be squished.
However, if the Hulk were to apply gradual pressure, Shaw would get tougher faster than he would take damage, depending on the amount of pressure.
In most situations the Hulk wins, because Shaw cannot get stronger than however hard the Hulk is hitting him, while there is no known limit to how mad the Hulk can get. -
Quote:I've always thought of it as a kinetic focused ability with him.The thing is, this was the second time he'd been hit by lightning in that comic.
The first time, he TOLD the White Queen (in Storm's body) to hit him with a shot of lightning to power him up before a fight. He hadn't been able to fully discharge that energy, however, before the uncontrolled BIG bolt of lightning got him. So he can absorb it, but maybe not as well as kinetic energy.
I concede that my knowledge of this is likely limited.
Especially after having just re-watched "X-Men: First Class", and his absorption of the energy from the nuclear reactor was decidedly not kinetic. -
Quote:Couldn't be that lightning isn't kinetic...Shaw has limits to how much he can absorb at once. When the White Queen had mind switched with Storm she lost control of the wheather and a powerful lightning strike overloaded and decked Shaw.
So if a strong lightning bolt can deck Shaw I have little doubt that one punch from the Hulk would reduce Shaw to a greasy smear. Sure Shaw will absorb some of the energy but not enough to stop the Hulk. ....
....especially if Hulk were to go Worldbreaker.... -
