Well I may not be around for too long but what the heck...
*tunes in*
Santanna right now. -
Well I'll have to take your word on that as I have never seen it all the way through (nor do I particularly care to) but I suppose worst case scenario I could come up with something for Meatloaf... he did put out some good music anyway.
-
Hey that ones not half bad
Obvious to Christopher Robin...
"Well you may not see it but it's clearly OCR."
@Bayani: I think RL must have him tied up as I haven't heard anything out of
TA or Sassy in weeks now...surely the FArt starting up again would get his attention?
So I don't think he is avoiding this thread per say, he just isn't posting at all.
P.S. Hey Planet Girl I was meaning to ask you, I see you in several Bayani pics,
are you of the same mind that you don't want anyone drawing your character?
-
*hopes that isn't going to be an actual theme*
Wasn't there mention made of a pass that we could use on a month where we didn't want to submit something?

Quote:"BIG stretch" "you're the only one who was able to to see it" Ya I know Wassy.Sorry CR.... that was definitely a BIG stretch of the imagination.... and you're the only one who was able to see it without a detailed diagram!
Perhaps its all that clean living ^.^
At some point when I was learning to recognize shapes someone probably handed me a wooden duck and that configuration of basic shapes in that pattern stuck, people who don't share that memory wouldn't see that pattern. I'm not used to seeing the underside of a heeled boot so I saw wood duck instead.
Most everyone I find myself surrounded with in RL are not creative types and never "see" what I do, they don't notice things that stand out like a neon sign to me... for all intents and purposes they are oblivious to their surroundings.
I go to the movies with a group of people, and while I don't talk during the movie (hey I don't want to go to the special hell unless YoSaffBridge and her mythical book are involved) afterwords I'll say "you know that beer bottle up on the shelf in the men's room disappeared for a few seconds and then reappeared" or "hey Wash's hands were empty when he was supposed to be holding the ships yoke in that scene"... no one ever believes me but later when the DVD comes out they see of course that is exactly what happened... their usual response? Yeah so? Sometimes it's like I'm forever defending my view against people who can't see crap even after I draw them a picture (except that most of them don't care for my art either so I never actually show them anything I draw)... it's frustrating and saddening all at once.
Sidenote: I need new people.
I sometimes wonder why I bother to point stuff out at all but then I'll get a PM from an artist that reads "good call man I would have never spotted that in a million years if you hadn't said something ...thank you" and I realize well hey at least some people online appreciate it. Even if I have to post a diagram sometimes at least some people here will see what I "just see"... with that I am content.
/end rant
Quote:Man o' man CR...I can't even imagine what you see in clouds or ink blots. Speaking of which, you could probably make a small fortune in reading tea leaves or something.
I've not done a Rorschach test lately so who knows...
P.S. the tea leaves say you shouldn't go outside next week.
Quote:Sorry CR, I'm with them...
Seeing the toy duck next to the part of the image you mean I suppose I can see how one could make the connection... But I think it's a big ole leap.
But then again, some people are better on drugs than not
Although I do see bewbiez... like, a lot (seriously they're everywhere) so your kinda missing out. Heh.
And people say I'm weird?

Quote:*pats JK on the head* Heh lol.... that is soooooooo not an inside joke around here. It comes up often and there are even entire threads devoted to the subject of RL. Seriously*pats JK on the head* Its not really an inside joke, dearie. The majority of people here are aware of Liefeld, and that is the point of the joke that this piece is an homage of. CR linked to it above there ^.^

CR shall no longer stand for Christopher Robin in my mind...it shall now stand for (overly) "Critical Replies"

or... Often Completely Right
All joking aside while I don't know Bayani personally that well yet I do know he wants nothing but the best for his gallery and if little things can be caught and corrected before he has to commission another (Swany?) artist to come back in and correct the mistakes the OA made, well, I think he might be ok with it.
Also if you actually look at the picture and what I'm saying about it (rather than the fact it's usually just me with the cojones to point this stuff out) I'm not wrong here.
Quote:Must admit, I've only skimmed TA's wiki... Keep meaning to tacle it but never gotten to it yet.
But ya, that's why I mentioned different spheres... He'll, even the Marvel/DC crossovers sucked.
Anyway, never meant to imply that I didn't get where your coming from... Just that if one tries hard enough (and indeed partakes of drink and sole liberally) one can make anything work. If they should or not is a different question...
I think one of the other ways Bayani and TA are in "different spheres" (but no one is coming out directly and saying it) is that Bayani truly is seeking to have the very best gallery... top flight works by the best people he can get his hands on... it's probably has a lot to do with why he kindly rebuffs any attempts at gift art or "surprises" that don't have his consent prior... that way he doesn't feel obligated to showcase something that is not the very best available (I'm guessing here, by all means correct me if I'm wrong Bayani).
While TA on the other hand will kindly let anyone try to draw his OC.
Really anyone at all (even if it lands him in the occasional tutu and nipple tassles) and he will be appreciative of all their works and proudly showcase and support their efforts no matter what.
Neither way is right or wrong... they are just two different ways of going about building ato be proud of...
Or maybe this is just me being OCR again.
-
One small thing Bayani...
the flap of material at the peak of TA's hood is on the side of his head...
it should be on the back of his head or the hood looks crooked.
/end nitpick
-
You want me to share? Lol ok you asked for it.
Ignore the wheels and the fact that the tail swoops up (it's the closest ducky I could find on short notice) as many
do not have wheels and the tail goes straight back. Look at the shape of the head, the thin post shaped neck, the
round lug securing the wing, the wing shape and the tail shape... can ya duck me now? Good!
-
What about the pumpkin head? Tell me you don't see a grinning Fir Bolg?
...nope, still not smoking anything, not now or ever for that matter. -
Hahaha, classic!
**wonders aloud what the knee pads and soda cans might be used for in combat**
@Wassy I'm thinking the jokes on Bayani more than on TA in this one... like this is Bayani if TA had his way about it.
Spidey 611 for those who haven't seen it yet.
-
Your welcome Juggertha.
I hear what your saying too... it's much easier to spot that kind of stuff in other peoples work and miss it your own,
sometimes I go right past something like that in roughs and don't notice until it's too late (if I am drawing with a pen).
...and Thankyou, I try.
Quote:OHHH... oh, ummm, yeah right Eddy might read this and we need to keep up appearancez and stuffz...>.>...... <.<....
OK, maybe its CLOSE.... but we all know I don't love anything better than Swanzy's accent!
**Clears throat** Ahem, Eddy's accent is better. Wassy said so.
Ok we're safe... I think they bought it.
-
You know you lovez it Wassy... even more than Eddy's accent.
-
@ Caemgen: Lol, I am totally not making it up... at least you can see the grinning pumpkin head now so you know I'm not imagining it.
Now that you say boot yeah I can totally see it. I guess for me the part that is laying flat (the "paper")
if it was to be the whole cuff should be rounded like a tube not laying flat and if that is only one half of it
(a split zip down boot) and the other half is the part falling off-screen then a zipper or a seam to show it
had been "zipped in half" would make it instantly recognizable to me as a bootleg.
@Jk: I'z into clean living yo'... I eat right, lift weights and do NOT drink, smoke or do drugs of ANY kind.
I don't even take aspirin.
-
Quote:You are right Jk and it's no secret that I am a "details matter" kind of guy. I have no illusions about my own art being perfect/great... far from it (I make plenty of mistakes and omissions too and it's often harder to see them in my own pieces than in others) and I go into this knowing there are several here more talented/skilled/practiced than I am but a few things to consider.CR...just wow man lols. While I might notice a different arrow head style (MAYBE), but to know the differences between the two and how they leave a mark on the target is um, just very impressive...analytical...or as some might say anal (I figured you might like that "dirty" word more).
I liked Juggy's composition and layout quite abit...regardless of the mechanics of archery. I believe the term in comics is "suspension of disbelief"...therefore, if it looks cool then the science behind it takes a backseat.
1. Even though you removed that part of my text in your quoting of me I always start and end with what I liked most/what worked well in the piece... it's never just a wall of criticism
2. I try to always be positive and encouraging especially to those just starting out.
3. I do tend to point things out more on the more experienced artists... it's because I think of Juggertha as a "pro" that I say as much as I do. Like it or not people hold Pro's to a higher standard.
4. I believe strongly in Con/Crit i.e. Be constructive in your criticism... don't just say something like "that arrow sux dude" which doesn't help at all... instead say "hey that arrow doesn't match the one in the other panel" which tells the artist how it can be corrected/improved.
5. I take it as well. It's not just a one way street, I welcome critiques of my work and any comments I just ask that you keep it positive and be constructive. Suichiro gave me one of the longest critiques I have ever seen (complete with red-lining over the top of my work) and I've thanked him repeatedly and often refer back to it... I feel I have improved as a result.
6. If you don't see it and no one ever points it out to you... how will you ever improve?
7. If there are people that do not want me to do con/crit for their pieces just note or PM me and I will for the most part leave it alone (except to maybe say what I like about it).
8. I don't point out everything I see in posted works of art... seriously ask Caemgen sometime how many things I point out to him in PM's that I don't say in public.
In Juggertha's case specifically it does break my suspension of disbelief when a part of the bow that was on top in one frame is now on bottom in another frame... I don't think it's being anal so much as pointing out an overlooked detail.
Overall I think Juggertha is constantly making improvements and challenging himself as an artist and that is really the best praise I could give anyone.
He also, if what I recall people saying is right (before my time on the boards), is the one who started the FArt contest and hosted the first one, so if I never said it before,
Thanks Juggertha I appreciate it.

@VexXxa:
AAAAGGHHH! Thumper is covered in an ant swarm, douse him for pity's sake DOUSE HIMMM! -
Welcome aboard Bindweed that is some nice clean art you got there and
I plan to browse through the rest of your gallery as soon as I get some free time.
I would suggest that if you are taking commissions that you drop a PM to Thors Assassin
and get your name in "The Network" which is the stickied thread that lists all the local artists taking commissions.
Many people that want to hire someone who knows the CoX games (and who won't say "what's a controller?")
look to this thread as the short list of who's taking commissions that will "understand" my hero. Represent yo!
P.S. You'll get to put your name out there and also get to link to 3 pieces that you feel best showcase your talents to customers.
P.P.S. If you are looking for someone to draw yet feel free to have a go at Xllusya my Illusion/Empathy controller.
And once again welcome back to the best part of the forums.

That is beautiful Wassy.
Love the (studying is teh sux!) expression on her face and her bare feet are especially well done.
Good attention to detail with the clover on her hat and even speckled fur on her Bolero.
My only question is what the thing is near her feet... kinda looks like a wood duck carving with a grinning pumpkin (Fir Bolg?) head and piece of paper sticking out?
Quote:***Puts another notch in the troubleshooting belt***Thanks to CR, I can now see this thread again!!! Fenian looks Fabulous, Wassy!! And I love your fancy watermark!
Glad I could helpya Vex... now you have no excuses fer not postin'
yer sunshiny disposition (and cute yet disturbing pics) in tah peeple's treadz n' stuffz.

Great to see the first few entrants posting already.
@ Scooter: That is a great first piece man and it's easily one of the best I've seen from you.
Good choice of pose and some nice little details with the snowflakes and the sparkle on the blades. The only things I might suggest would be:
1. Her face could use a little bit of contrast, it's a little bit too ghosted
2. The fingers on her left hand... the pointer finger is fine as it could be folded in and so not visible beyond the proximal phalanges (first digit) but the way the middle finger is up we should see at least the proximal and middle and possibly even part of the distal (3rd digit) phalanges from the side, their absence makes it look like she is missing parts of her fingers.
These are both little things though and overall I like this piece a lot. Nice work.
@Juggertha: It looks like you were going for a medal yourself man. Great piece and it works on several levels. Lots of good stuff from how you snuck in a hot chick at the end to the variety of signage you have going on. Ya got the Olympic symbol three times, Coke, City of Heroes and MMO site, and even worked in some of your previous art into the background (I really like when artists works stuff like that in) cuz unless I am mistaken that is the banner for the Justice Girls you did hanging right next to CocaCola?
Heck you even plugged the Gap (ok that sounded dirty)
There really isn't much to say on the flip side here it's a great piece and nothing major is lacking... that said there are a few minor things I would point out.
1. The arrow is a flat "3 point" style bolt in panels 1,2,4, and 5 but is a rounded "minaret" style bolt in panel 3.
2. The head of the arrow is completely buried in the target in panels 6 and 7 but there appears to be almost no damage to it... like the target swallowed the whole head (this is sounding dirty even more dirty) and not just the tip and then somehow closed it's self over it. If it's a minaret style there should be a large puncture hole and if its a flat head there should be a noticeable sold line extending in opposite directions to show where it punched through or if it wasn't that hard of an impact then the tips of the 2 "back points" should be protruding slightly.
3. The bow's cable guard (the metal rod that goes across the strings) is above the knocking point in panel 1 but then is suddenly below the knocking point in panel 2
4. Any sign of the note is missing in the THWOOK panel. If the arrow was blurred I could see it be missing but since the arrow is in focus and the dip of the W is not big enough to cover it we should see it or if it's wrapped around the shaft (is there any way to talk about archery without sounding dirty lol) there should be two vertical lines on the shaft at the leading and trailing edge of the note... it would be subtle but that would be more consistent with the other panels.
5. The phone digits are backwards (hey I said this was nitpicking lol) it should be xxx-xxx-xxxx (3- 3- 4) instead of xxx-xxxx-xxx (3- 4- 3-)
6. I thought it was Synapse that was the super non-stop lady chaser and Manticore had been in love with and married Chalice/Sister Psyche and was totally a one woman man... he even turned down a potential 3-way with two hot sisters (Borea and Levantera) in the comic no less. Umm maybe he is luring out a potential witness to a crime or something? Yeah that'll work to expla... oh wait she's a psychic... never mind he's totally hosed.
Like I said though... a few small details (and one personality stretch), otherwise a very solid piece and bonus points for tackling a subject that is challenging for you. Great job man.
P.S. I totally lol'd at the dude in the green shirt who raised an eyebrow as he noticed the note... wait you don't suppose it's for him do you???? The cameras perspective puts the note right on his chest... oh man that would make for an interesting read next time she is in his head.
P.P.S. It occurs to me that my critiquing may bite me in the a$$ this year as I plan to compete as well.
-
I'm not totally senile yet heh it just took me a bit to add some wings on her lol.
Okay next up
number 10 of 40 goes to Scooter Two and his Lady Lylith... wait whaaa? Is that a typo or something? More senility creeping in?
Nope I decided to take another crack at her, this time just a bust (head and shoulders not bewbiez type), so I could spend more time on her features.
This is something I run into often drawing on paper, do I go large and get a lot of nice details in (but it takes forever to finish) or do I go small and get the whole figure on half a page (but the small features are hard to draw with such tiny pen/pencil lines and any single line can throw off the entire look of the face). I would like to be able to zoom in (like you do with a digital piece) and do the fine details and then be able to zoom out and make broad quick strokes to quickly fill in areas of low detail.
Until I get more digital skills though I will compromise and occasionally revisit certain pieces to see
if I can "do better" by drawing a smaller section of the piece but in a much larger size like I am doing with Lylith.
Since that is a WIP thread as well I am posting up the stages from sketch to finished pencils for those
that like to see the drawing take shape. First two stages are done and I'm posting them up now.
P.S. So far I'm on target with 10 drawings in 15 days.
I'm actually up to 14 but because I cannot show bewbies in the thread and the Olympic piece
(and all the sketches going into it) will be posted after my entry goes live there are 10 showing so far.

Beat ya to it Scoots!
Well ok technically you put up the refs before I was done (good thing too cuz I forgot the wings)
but I started her just after reading your fic about her origins (check out Scooters sig for the link
it's a pretty good read) so I'm declaring victory!
Ahem, Lady Lylith is number 9 of 40 (link in the sig to go to my NewArtz thread).
-
That's sweet man I love those three in one panel scenes like that. Not sure who they are fighting but it looks pretty epic.
-
Sounds like you are upping your game on many levels at once... here's to the next step! Cheers!

A closeup of the head shoulder area and some indication of what their powersets are would help.
