Sorry I couldn't make it to this one BW but I went back and watched it right away. That was very cool what you did on Kilo's jaw... It was funny when you mentioned that most people think of metal as bright chrome because that is actually what I had considered but I really like how you thought it through that he probably gets hit in the face a lot (being a tank) and his jaw might be more realistic if it showed some wear. The rusted and slightly dinged-up version was sweet and I like the texture and reflections in the other version too. That gives me more to think about and I appreciate the time you spent. Thanks.

P.S. Figures I miss it this week and there is like a record breaking turnout... the chat log was hilarious though... I almost would have liked to see him do a glass jaw Caemgen... and I had to laugh when Vex yelled out BOOBY TIME.
  3. WB Shadow Nate. Nice painting.

  4. That might almost be worth it considering some of the names on the list.

Looks like last years themes for painting were the Lady of the Lake (King Arthur) John Carter of Mars and I'm guessing the Golden Compass (or some other story where men fight polar bears).
  5. Heh, you have a point. There are a few I could finish for quick additions.
I will probably need to do some quick sketches (when I'm not working on Feb's FArt concept) to get caught up again.
  6. The trains have to come into the station via those overhead rails. If you keep you eye on the tracks you will see it coming in time.

I also like (by being outside) that it lets us know that this is not just any train station but specifically the one in Kings Row.
    Great piece Quinch.
  7. Not a killjoy at all BW, I for one always welcome a knowledgeable dissenting position.
If all I hear is a list of pros and a marketing blurb it makes me a bit leery.

I personally haven't heard of any of the artists mentioned here but then I don't have any real formal training.
It sounds like a fine course of study but for myself I don't think I need advanced concepts "simplified" so any person on the street can understand. I have a basic understanding of many advanced concepts and am a pretty quick study for new things even if they are complex in nature.

I often have fully complete, minutely detailed images in my head... I just need to get my hand/mouse/future tablet to recreate what I see in my mind onto the paper/screen.
To that end a better understanding of the tools and techniques of digital art is my current focus. There seems a wealth of knowledge available in this area... it's just sorting through and finding what is worth my time/money.

Thanks for bringing it up though LD and I hope you get exactly what you are looking for out of it.

Honestly I would like it if more people posted what kind of instruction or tutorials they found to be the "best of the best" so as a community we had a standing list of some sort.

Personally I've always found Robert Chang's work to be weak in terms of professional digital artists. I wouldn't put him in the same league as a lot of the other people putting out educational material (El Coro, Jason Chan, Andrew Jones, Stephen Stahlberg, etc.).

If you're interested in doing something like this, make sure to check and see what else is out there. $550 will buy you a lot of concept art downloads. Also, the more educational stuff I buy, the more cynical I get about promotional blurbs. I have no doubt that this class would be a rewarding experience, I'm just not sold on it being the best way to leverage your finances to improve your art.
  8. Judging by how many people have the new "Emperor Cole" version of Tyrant in their sig I'd say there is interest.

P.S. Just for future reference is it just Frost Magus that no one else is allowed to draw? Or does the W object to the drawing of
all your heroes/villains? Do you have another main besides FM?

Yes actually. I would love to see what your take would be on colors for Aruana Twilight Moon
(if this kind of lineart works for your purpose)

or if you have some expertise in metallics this is a piece of Kilotonnage

that I kind of stalled out on because despite all of the tries (on other sheets of paper)
I did I could not find a convincing look for such a large and oddly shaped chunk of metal.

Alternatively if you want another shot at Massacre Melanie there is always this sketch...

You are free to paint over during your livestream and I welcome any critique or thoughts you may have on any of the three.

P.S. I can provide a much higher rez scan (now that I have a scanner hooked up) for them.
  11. So that's where VexXxa got her lip winking avatar that was so totally into orange stuffz.

Hey Lousy, is the course a down-loadable video series that you get to keep so you can review it at your leisure after the course or is it a limited login to a website while the course is on and once it's over you are locked out?
It would be more valuable (imo) if you can keep the course material after you are done with the class and be able to refer to it down the road.

From what I can make out though it looks like the Zig is on fire and Lord Recluse is gloating. Looks to be Synapse in the lower left and someone in green armor hovering both saying something. Oh and the building itself seems to be talking (or perhaps people inside n stuffz).
  13. Happy Birthday Frost!

Was thinking to draw you some birthday gift art but then I remembered drawing your main
would earn the wrath of Wassy and I'd hate to have to explain the clawmarks.
  14. Break time is over and back into it.
Number 13 is up and I have several more things to post over the next few days.
  15. Very nicely done Twizded.
    Jacob Shaw was my favorite.

P.S. Welcome to the Art Forums!

I think this one is even cooler than the Caemgen piece he did. Part of it is the dynamic pose, the crushing of Crey (Alpha's person nemesis) and the bit of stylization there is to the piece but I personally have a hard time coming up with any word to describe this one besides "EPIC"

Larger version will be up on DA sometime tommorow... Haven't recieved the hi-res file yet but couldn't wait to share!
Cool piece for sure... it's certainly one of the better versions/spinoff/homages I've seen done of this.

It doesn't detract from my enjoying the piece (it is still very well executed) but if the dynamism of the pose
is what really does it for ya Caemgen I thought you might want to know it's source.
  17. One need only peek at LD's DA page and his "studies"
of Elvgren to see that quarter is neither being asked for nor given.

I may have to try something a bit more ambitious...

@Techbot Alpha: Sorry about that, I tried PM'ing, emailing, and Skypeing every CoH related artist I could think of.

Also I have a fulltime business building custom computers and so do not have a lot of spare time but I decided
to make it a goal to devote at least an hour or two to drawing (daily if possible) for 60 days and see where that took me.
Click the button in my sig for more on that.

I honestly don't feel comfortable uploading some of the other art that I did of her (it looked like crap lol), but there was one pencil one I did a while back that I might show.
I have an silly idea regarding that... sent ya a PM.
  20. Yeah pretty much anywhere.
    Thanks MP

    No it's even better... it's Christ(opher)mas and I getz me a present!
I love the color scheme you chose and the fact that there is almost no black in the piece, the darkest darks are purples, and the reds and golds go beautifully and really suit Xllusya's look.
Her eyes are golden just as they should be, the simplified laurel wreath is very elegant and I like that you went with more of a topknot then a "bun" as it matches with the ringlets around her ears.
The necklace is gold chain but I can see not wanting to draw individual links (what a pain in the tucas heh) and so the golden scarf stands in just fine.

Awesome Cashoo I really love what you did with her image... even if it's just a "boring headshot, " heh (what's up wit dat?)

    Thank you.

Only one thing I could ask... "I had actually drawn her several times in the past"... must... see... other... Xllusya... artz nao!
If you kept any of the others I would love to see them... I promise not to share (all mine mwhahah) or post em anywhere.

"She's such a lovely toon." Hey what ya tryin' to do make me blush, up in here, up in here???
Thanks she's always been a favorite of mine too.

  22. Clutch Gets the all important Orange vote.
It's Freaks on Ice, what's not to love... I find the idea of Dreck and Clamor figure skating such an absurdity that I chuckle every time I think of it.

Plus the little details like them using machete's for skates crack me up... it's so what a Freak would do.
Bonus the title reminds me a bit of Booker T... Can you dig that SUKAHHHHH! lol

Close 2nd's to Eddy, Happy Dan, Frost and Pyro.
