While I don't got redside much (ever lol) I do know the costume creator very very well... that belt is not a selectable option for player characters.

Quote:Sorry man I tried to take the best picture of it I could... the piece is about 10 feet long and I had to pull my SUV................"Honorable mention: ChristopherRobin (thematic materials, nice shot somewhat marred by framing / setting (should have either centered it better, or worked the sill into the piece more); I'm not really giving it credit for bonus sexy because with the medium it doesn't leap out, although looking at it closely it might qualify if in a higher-res format)".............
in and climb up onto the roof of it while holding the camera over my head just to get the shot I did.
As for a high rez shot if you follow the thumbnail's link to DA and click the download button on the left side of the screen
(or just click here) and once there click the image once and it will +magnify it to a bigger version. If you want more info on the piece
you can go to my new artz thread (button in my sig) and on the last page I posted up a bunch of pictures and more info about the process.
Either way I thank you for your consideration and honorable mention.
Quote:Everybody with an active game account is allowed to vote,( 3 votes, one time per person, not per account, by the way). So...vote away people from the LJ page!
To avoid any confusion for people new to this the voting goes as follows...
Each person gets three votes (but they must be cast all at once and you only get
the 3 votes one time per month regardless of how many accounts you have) whichever piece
you vote for first gets 3 points, the piece you vote second gets 2 points and your third choice gets 1 point.
All three votes must go to different artists (i.e. you cannot vote for the same piece more than once)
Person with the most points (not votes) gets immunity for the next month and the person with the least is out.
Any other questions just ask.

Well I couldn't let it go completely past without sneaking in a fashionably late HAPPY B-DAY VEXXXA!!!!
I was out with family celebrating another birthday today and just got back an hour and a half ago and was about ready
to go to sleep when I remembered it was your b-day as well so I spent the last hour or so whipping up a little something for ya...
Yeah It's not finished yet but I am really tired so I will try and wrap it up tomorrow when I take a lunch break until then here is a preview.
Enjoy the birthday artz and I hope you had a wonderful day
(whips and all) I'm off to bed.

Woah, it looks like Bayani teamed up with Plasitc Man, Ice Man and Trinity from the matrix movies.

Quote:It's not imposing if I volunteer my help now is it?........"Thanks... but dude, I impose on you enough trying to get advice on how to describe to others on how to fix him
"............
...and you didn't ask for any of those drawings (as I recall).
I just thought them the easiest way to convey to the other artists what was amiss.
Besides I don't think you're going to stop acquiring artz any time soon so a good turn around sheet
should cut down on these kinds of problems in the first place.

First up I just wanted to say thanks for the all the votes so far, I'm honored.
Second I think the 3 point system is working great and everyone is getting some vote love... I am in favor of keeping it going throughout the rest of the contest as it's actually exciting now watching this voting thread because, unlike the old mono-vote system where you knew pretty much right away what the results would be (you at least knew the winner and had a good guess who was up for elimination), now we are getting some real close scores and each vote it seems reshuffles the rankings, I love it!
Third with that said Tatyr I too really hope you were kidding (he did make a joke about a killer crayon busting his hip or something?) but if not you really should reconsider, while I won't give actual numbers (I am sure many are keeping score as I am though), I will say there are only a few points separating who will get immunity and also only a couple separating who will be eliminated. Seriously one persons vote could change either and we are 2 days into a 6 day vote... kinda silly to quit now.
Finally as for people eliminated coming back it sounds like some might be for it and others might be against as it would be unfair to those still in it... what about an alternative?
We could have a separate category (separate vote and it's own separate thread) for all eliminated to keep playing along (say starting in June) and creating art and then have some kind of vote who wins of those. At the end you would have the FArt Champion and... well I guess it would be a FArt Comeback... or a FArt Zombie (back from the dead and still going strong!).
The main con with a straight up comeback as I see it is the potential for someone who was eliminated to submit a piece and take a bunch of points away from someone else resulting in their elimination... this would solve that problem and it would also ensure that whoever ends up being the FArt Champion has never been eliminated (the winner should be someone who never lost, yo!). Plus we would also get to see a lot more artz.
Alternatively we could do it without votes or points as a friendly Zombie Art Jam. Thoughts?
Edit: looks like Tatyr slipped in while I was typing this (crafty aint he?) clearly he got wind of what I was going to say and decided to stay... good call.

Quote:Fair enough.CR, while your points may be valid concerns if we were talking about a normal man, we're dealing with Bayani. He's a character in a fictional story. While your ideas would make the picture more realistic (as realistic as an illustration of a fire manipulating martial artist battling futuristic space soldiers across a cityscape can get), I think it would make for a less dynamic picture and story. All of the rules that apply to you and me don't necessarily have to apply to a superhero. I don't think a two point stance here takes anything away from the illustration.
I think when most of the elements in an image are being realistically portrayed it helps with the audiences suspension of disbelief for the parts that defy normal conventions.
It can even draw attention to and magnify the effect... really make super parts stand out if you will. Honestly though I was thinking more "martial artist" here than "super hero" so in that regard you're absolutely right the usual rules and circumstances don't necessarily apply. I just point out things I see and if you like them or they catch something that was missed then great... if not, no worries.
The above being said I do like it better with him partially turning to face his attackers (something even heroes tend to do when being fired upon) and about the only other thing I was going to point out is that Bayani's shades are missing (wasn't sure if they got knocked off prior to this scene or not) but that seems to have been fixed in this revision as well.
Quote:................... "As for the "is it real?" aspect...which I should know better than to enter. It's not. But it's cool, and fun...kinda like watching a Star Wars movie. No, people can't really do those cool moves you see Liam Neeson (or his stunt double) do, part of that was probably computer generated. But damn, it looks like fun and looks cool! And a lot of us have wished at times (usually as kids) that we could do cool, fun, Jedi stuff, or cool, fun, superpowered stuff..! That's why we play MMOs!"................

If you only knew the power of the Orange side!
There can be no forgiveness! No mercy shown to....! errrr... I mean, umm yeah, no worries Juggertha.

Cool I like several of the improvements made in this and it addresses several of the points made in the feedback here. Nice.
I still think a three point stance (his left hand resting on the Skiff) would be more stable, even more so now that he is returning fire, and considering the speed you want to depict (i.e. when things are going really really fast you grab onto whatever you can and hold on tight).
Also and if his chi blasts have an equal and opposite reaction effect on him in his current pose I think he might topple... other than looking cool what purpose does having his left arm up in the air serve?
P.S. Bonus points for the Street Fighter reference!

In that very same post you also manage to make the claim that you are not calling him out about the contest

You know just because you repeatedly say you don't (or haven't or wouldn't) do something doesn't make it true.

That said I am enjoying reading the opinions and points being expressed in this thread and do applaud you for creating it.

@Juggertha:

Of course if you only "copied" (as BW defines it) during a "for fun" contest and not on anything you make money from then it's a somewhat moot point and all of it really depends on how people define copying/stealing vs. using reference.
Do you have any actual examples (this is what I call using refs the right way and this over here is copying) Juggertha or BW (you did say you would post all your refs for the skating piece when you got back) or anyone else? I think if we could see actually what people are talking about rather than hearing it described to us we could come to some kind of agreed upon definition and this thread would progress further... well either that or the forums would implode.

@Wassy: That bit about admissions wanting to see your sketchbook is interesting.
----------------------------------------
@Johhnykat: ...when you sober up you may find it amusing to know that Suichiro is not a she. He probably does have red hair and horns though.
-
-
Quote:Aside from the horns wings and tail he is also apparently completely hairless and has a human nose and mouth in case you didn't mention those things to GrainGnome already. It really looks like he just glanced at what you sent him and then proceeded to draw a generic demon.Well didn't want to name the artist until they had a chance to respond... And they have just responded apologizing and saying they'll change the horns and add the tail... I'm actually ok with the rest, I don't mind an artists spin on my guys as long as the integral parts are all basically there...
And I am still searching for someone to do character sheets but in this case I just don't know how much they'd have helped. Maybe with the tail but with the horns it's not like they tried to do them and just weren't up to it or got it wrong... They pretty much just ignored the horns and just threw on generic ones. *shrug*It still looks cool, it's just not very "Caemgen-ish (tm
)."
I don't think you should give up on him (and don't even think about killing him off!) until you have tried submitting a full on character ref with detailed images and then seeing how it goes.
If you are having difficulty finding someone who understands Caemgen to draw you up some detailed refs, you know I'll help you out buddy.
-
Quote:Agree with Shia on this... now all you have to do is redraw it all exactly the same but with crayons and you're good to go.Well, you had a gorgeous submission, anyway. It looks absolutely professional. The tones on the rock, on her skin, the great muscle straining to show she's actually working to lift that rock, all of it.

Quote:@AP: Hahaha... I imagine a thought bubble over the heroes head saying "Darn it! Lusca suckered me in again!"Okay. Hello talented people. I am not an artist, nor have I ever claimed to be one.
But I caught sight of this thread and my niece has been round, and her crayons were just sitting there.
Sadly, I only had some printer/copy paper to do this little doodle on so I'm not sure if it qualifies. Anyway, it kept me occupied for a handful of minutes
Lusca (for it is, he/she/it) was easy. Trying to draw a figure with crayon (and there were no sharpeners around...) is difficult.
Anyway, hope this raises a smile somewhere in the Intarhwebs.
AP
Yeah I know what you mean I had no way to sharpen my sidewalk chalk and the things are almost an inch think around so fine lines were impossible after the first 30 seconds or so for me, heh.
Quote:Now don't go trying to credit me with anything approaching common sense!
I wanted to use wax crayons or coloured chalk, but Junior doesn't have anything like that anymore, and I'm essentially a miser...
I was kinda the same I wanted the big box of crayons but wasn't going to spend for it just to use it once... then I saw the chalk for 2 bucks and thought now there's a fun challenge... SOLD!
Come on now no excuses! If you're a bit of a miser you can just get the small box of crayons (their cheap) you only need a few of the common colors and hey you said Junior doesn't have any... well he will now, just think of it as a present for your son... albeit slightly used.

Some nice entries all around here people, very creative.
@HappyDan: The OP does say no "pens" as well as no markers (maybe should've PM'd Wassy if you were not sure
that the medium you wanted to use qualified) but no worries man the deadline is far enough away yet... you still have like 16 hours.
Slap a pressure washer on the end of a hose, give the bathroom the quick once over, (don't worry it will air dry) grab a box of crayons and go to it.
Oh and construction paper stateside is like a coarse tooth paper that is a bit thicker than normal and comes in all kinds of colors other than white, it looks like this.
@Unaught and JK: I hear ya guys, I'm having the reverse problem though, mine is hard to shoot a good image of cuz it's over 10 ft. long.
Even standing on a chair with my arms over my head (I'm 6'3") I still can't get the camera high enough in the air to get the whole thing in one shot without being at a severe angle that distorts it. I may go out this morning and try standing on the hood of my SUV and see if that is any better or maybe I can borrow a neighbors ladder... if he gets home before it starts raining.
I also learned it's almost impossible to get a solid line or block of color on such a coarse surface lol.
-
I was going to offer if no one else did but thanks for taking that on Bubba.
The hardest part for me so far is getting a good picture of my entry but it is for the most part done.
Not sure if I like how it turned out or not but I can draw something quick in crayon tomorrow as plan B if needed.
Since it was Earth Day today...
-
-
Sounds good, I look forward to seeing what other avatars you come up with.
-
Oh I know why, it's the fact that you have the robotic arm torso rather than the normal human arms.
The CC removes the lower plate when you choose robotic to accommodate some of the different arms that stick out and would cause clipping.
-
-
Was thinking something like this...
{image removed by CR... nyah nyah}
Yeah I know not the best rough pose sketch lol but you get the idea.
-
What about a compromise? Something like Bayani takes a knee (or even squatting just like in the 2nd sketch only lower) and has one hand flat on the skiff with his fingers grabbing on tight while his opposite hand is up and behind him using the fire sword to deflect an incoming shot.
Still gives him the Silver Surfer-ish dynamic stance and he is also clearly hanging on (even more so if you have really play up his clenched fingers) which adds to the look of falling speed (this could also be shown in his hair as it would be at an odd angle which could flair it) while still being actively defensive, I think he would still showcase well.
It would also address Thornster's point of not facing your attackers and Suichiro's point and make it clear he is not attacking Mae-Day.
The though that occurred to me is, when faced with such a dire situation, his training would take over and give him a the best compromise of secure footing and combat readiness.
-
All three are nice but the Totmo really stands out to me. Even thought they are not game specific I like the FX and the pose/viewing angle.

I hereby volunteer my services as photographer...
What?
You know what they say... it's a dirty job... and I called it FIRST!
Booooo!

Again people.... bare with me!
Quote:I think probably Dual Pistols/Cleavage.
That's a great secondary set!!
a mixture of the Illusion and Mind Controller sets perhaps?
Distract? (almost certainly)
Levitate? (well partially anyway)
Mesmerize? (bonus {lol} vs. male targets?)
Flash? (one can only hope...)
Fixate? (kinda like Placate except it's bound to have a much improved animation over that silly hand wave)
Empty Mind? (kinda like Clear Mind except you forget what the hell you were doing a second ago)
Adrenalin Boost? (Self explanatory heh)
Or how about...
Disrupt Traffic? (use with caution or risk gridlock)
What do you guys think the tier 9 would be...
Total Domination?
Well they do come in two's.
Quote:Thanks all!
Well at least one power is obvious... Dual Pistols. And they are ...lets face it.. awesome.
I supose Willpower could be a good power for her too...
Her cleavage seems to change size every now and then though... magic cleavage perhaps?
*giggles*. I can imagine that it could come in handy!

Quote:1. Yes, Thermocouple wears the Valk 3 shoulder pieces, and technically, looked at from that angle they would seem to have a point at the top of the shoulder. (Though not that prominent, and Valk 3 only have one plate.)
2. I noticed this as well, and BAKART told me that he was taking a few liberties. Thinking about it, I realized that fire is not always that awe-inspiring, and I look at it more as a plasma ball forming. I chose to not have it changed.
3. Yes, at work, I sit on a stool. :รพ
Edit: And no, I don't milk cows...
The Valkyrie #3 are however a 2 plate shoulder piece unless I am missing something.
The Smooth are a one plate and that is why I think it looks like a hybrid.
2. If this piece of Thermocouple is any indication I think he could make some pretty sweet fire fx but hey as long as it works for you that is all that matters.
I was just pointing it out in case it was an oversight.
3. That's "udderly" ridiculous.
