Wow nice gift artz Ennvee and even better now with LJ's "fix yo pix" repair service added.
Great work on the followup gift too Bobby. The art itself is really cool and that expression made me chuckle...
...it's almost like your gift art is talking smack to the other gift art about getting her sword wrong n stuffz.
P.S. Love the new avatar LJ.

Heya Lousy,
I would suggest to move the warden to the left side of his chaser (so he is between us and the craft) it would block a little bit of the vehicle but the tradeoff is you would be able to see warden's face in profile and while it can be tricky to show emotion from a face in profile it's better in my opinion that trying to do it with his posture and body language alone.
Further more if you stoop him over a bit more you and lowered the camera angle and moved it more to the left you could get the side of his face and have him looking past/over the top of his dumpy craft at the shiny Arachnos flier (shouldn't be a problem as the Fliers are huge compared to the chasers and it would easily be visible as it towers over his tiny craft). Done right you could lead the viewers eye from saddened look on his face... to his beat up ride (the reason for the look on his face)... to the life he could've had instead, represented by the flier and the hot chick, (which I assume is the girl coming out of the flier?).
Also I would bring the flier closer and mover the gas pump with the cost off to the far left side (or even as suggested above between them but not in the line of sight) so it's not getting any undue attention. Oh yeah and if the Flier were close enough you could get bonus points by putting the light source on the far side of the flier so it's casting a huge shadow across the warden and his beat up little ship. Sunlight and maybe even a sparkle glints off the shiny flier while the chaser and warden are glumly "in the dark."
Just some thoughts I had when looking at it. Cheers.

It's too dark and too far away (i.e. the blurb that points out that there is wire mesh on her boots should be a closeup if you
want it represented accurately... right now it's so far away you cannot see the pattern on them at all).
The font you chose isn't the best for legibility either.
If you did nothing else though you need to really bump up the contrast and brightness... think more like this
Also even though it says trim is powder blue it appears to be purple which might be a bit confusing.
Finally I would suggest you crank up the resolution (the game doesn't have to be playable you just need good clear shots)
and if your system can't handle it have someone on here with an uber rig (I know there are a few) take the shots for you
in game and send them to you.

While you have posted a thread before saying there was a new comic up on your site I think Caemgen has a great idea here. Put a few pages of the actual comic in a new standalone thread.
As for what pages to use something near the beginning that introduces the characters is a good bet.

Cool count me in for Moonfire.
Baby Blue and Cheesy yellow hunh... hmmm ok I can work up something for that.
*wonders when there will be an orange themed TF run* -
Cool I may be done with stuff in time to participate this week.

Ahhhhg! Pass the Mind Bleach! Quick someone post boobies to remove teh horrorz of it all.
No no Joph, it's "Atto-girl"... ya know with like an O n' stuffz... if you just scroll up an look at Bayani's post you can clearly see how it's sp...

Quote:Yeah I've pointed it out a few times... poor Nei.No need to stand... It only stuck with me because I believe CR corrected me a while back on the same thing.
She is definitely a she though.
Sidenote: She can totally rock the cute n' sexy goth chick look
when she does get all decked out for an event...
Plus she's appears to be an atheist (or at the very least a rational darwinist)
and into steampunk to boot.
Quote:Thanks Juggy! And you aren't the only one to say something like that Bayani, is Nei terribly hard to get to do commissions or something?
Although now that she wrapped that big "Alice" project might be the best time to try and snag her while she ties up lose ends...
it probably doesn't hurt that Kevin did the linework either.
Quote:This should be in MSword. right justified, left justified, Butt justified...Word.
(if i understood the connections my brain makes...i'd be half as crazy as i am.)

Quote:More like next month n' stuffz.... errr I mean... I have like no ideaz *shuffles legal looking forms under a pile of sketches* what you iz talkin bout LJ, ahem.I would have posted it in orange type, but than CR would sue me into next week. And by the by, thank you...
That's just one more awesome thing about mah orange textz... no one misses when I have a link *** HEY TJ, LADY JUDGEMENT DREW YOUR HERO ***
in my text... must be teh contrastin colors or sumpin'.(P.S. Nice design there Bobby)
Joking aside for a moment, you are really getting some amazing advice here... seriously re-read what Suichiro, Caemgen, Bayani, Wassy and others are saying.
These people are speaking from long experience and instead of debating it you should seek to understand what they are saying and why it's important.
A few points I would touch on...
Take a look through Bayani and Planet Girls collections on DA for a bit... do you see a bunch of "Brandoness" (tm) in their other works?
I think your concern in that regard isn't really warranted. Other artists just use it for reference to see how things line up and for
a clear representation of what the details should look like and they then proceed to interpret that in their own style.
Try thinking of it more as "this will help me to better convey what I want and give me a degree of consistency throughout
my collection" rather than "I don't want to overly influence future commissions and limit their style to one artists vision."
Also, it doesn't have to be as complex as you're making it out to be... Bayani chose different people in his character sheet because
at every step of the way (drawing, inking, and coloring etc) he is choosing whoever he thinks is best for that job
even if that means a different person for every task. Doesn't mean you need to go that route though.
Even a very clean series of line drawings with a few brief notes explaining to artists, unfamiliar with the game,
some of the tricky aspects of your costume (like how the beard/mask/goggles all relate) would be a big step forward.
Obviously no one is saying you must get a drawn ref sheet (or anything else suggested) but they do make some good points.
Sidenote: One helpful thing I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, if you do choose an artist that actively plays CoH, there is now,
with the "save" and "load" features recently added, an easy way to get them all the relevant details of your character's look.
Just save your heroes costume at any Icon and then go to your CoH game folder and there will now be a subfolder
called "costume." In that folder will be a tiny 6-10k file with the same name as what you saved under.
Attach that file to an email, send it to the artist and they can just pop it into their costume folder
and presto they now have your exact characters, slider positions and all... this might even
save Wassy the headache of having to recreate them all the time.
Speaking for myself, the costume creator is something I am very familiar with and I often know exactly what parts from the CC I'm looking at
from a single screenshot or just an avatar (the design Caemgen is using as his avatar is a good example) so a drawn reference sheet for
a character created in the "City of" games isn't really critical to me personally but this is the exception and not the rule.
As has been pointed out above, most artists will have no knowledge of CoH and so in-game screenshots that convey a lot of info to you, I
and others here will have much less meaning for them... I imagine it would be the same for me if I were asked to do a character from WoW...
*ducks the tar and feathers hurled in his direction for mentioning the dreaded name*

Why not just trap him and shoot from a safe comfortable distance rather than open herself up to counter attack or getting burnt... since it appears that her legs are on fire as well (flame retardant pink armor perhaps?
)
I agree it looks really dramatic and cool the two of them facing off in the fire ring (I like the fire effect too) but if that is her power (blaster's fire secondary) she would have to be nuts to trap herself in there with Fenris like that... thankfully DD is a little bonkers.

Quote:Hey there Henri,Scoot, i've really enjoyed looking at this thread. I'm a pen/paper artist but really want to get into digital art, especially in the comic book art area. Two things have really inspired me in the last month... one is my mate who's doing a Maya course, and the other is you. Thanks for that mate
I hear ya man... I'm a traditional artist as well who's attempting to learn digital art (in a time/place where everyone
seems to have already made the jump to digital)... it seems there are actually a few of us pencilers still floating around.
Oh and if no one has said it welcome to the best part of the US forums.
-
I've actually got an idea for packing all 7 sins into one image... not sure if I will be able to pull it off without color though. hmmmm.
-
Quote:Cool it looks like he is doing a old school Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku (hurricane kick) ...ok you probably weren't thinking StreetFighter when you did this but still. This is another one not related to CoH but I'm proud of it. I got a tutorial by Cryptcrawler on DA and it has paid off in spades. I am much better at using photoshop because of it.
Click the picture for the DA page.
And yeah I'm with Caemgen on the whole BladeRunner feel to it.
And that is really cool that you chose to include DD in your art I'm sure she will be thrilled.
She has been doing a lot of free stuff lately... someone should thank her.
A question comes to mind though, since it is an action piece, what is the sequence of events here?
Her arrow has been fired and is lodged in his back so he had to be facing the other way at first but they are somehow
trapped in a ring of fire together and if that were to happen how could you not notice or have your back to the only other
person in there with you. If the fire is one of her powers why would she be in it and if not hers then who's? Kinda curious how you see it going down.
One thing I notice is that the top two claws on the near hand/paw seem to be overlapping in a way that makes it hard to tell which is on top...
I would suggest pointing the thumb claw up so it matches the farside hand and is less ambiguous.
I do really like the dynamism of Fenris' pose though... and DD... well she looks like she's about to have a really bad day.
Aim for the nose!... oh wait that's sharks, umm... go for an eye!

Boooooo! I hope the FFF is apprehended and your com stat is restored real soon.
I hear in an alternate dimension called J-town there are devices being given away (although in a contested manner)
that can re-establish a broken com signal... it's kind of a jury rig but they last for 30-90 days... just a thought.
-
Who needs a retirement when you can have artz! Unless they seize you comp and you have nothing to view the artz with... that would be a bummer.
Yeah Cano's stuff is pretty slick and this is no exception.
-
Quote:Hahahahaha hilarious!I tried that, but my framerate went backwards and I ended up playing Issue 9.
Quote:I'm gonna be right there with you, albeit at 1920x1080, on my 5870, as soon as it gets done updating. And I tweak the settings. And I get the latest drivers. And I get more iced tea.
(...unless you meant tweak the game settings cuz I hadn't installed CoH before shipping).

Wasn't sure if you had exclusivity thing (Like Wassy and Frost) with your avatar where only Shia and Suichiro get to draw it so I'll just say...
Happy Hatching Day n' stuffz you wacky DragonScarfGirlBerryThing!
P.S. Nice pic Shia... Looks like DragonBerry is hitting the ripe old age of 1 this year and already someone has stolen her first slice... of cake that is...
But hey Deebs at least they left you a big plank of swiss cheese with a handle (for convenient holding while you nom I'm fairly certain) as compensation. *nods*
Note to self: no more posting in birthday threads @2am
when you're half awake... nothing good can come of this.

Quote:Your welcome DE, I was happy to.Got my new 'puter!
I had CR piece me one together so I can Ultra with the rest of you all. Just trying to get the game installed/updated atm - I copied all the pigg files over, but it still insists on fixing all of them. <sigh>
Anyhoo, probably be on the fast machine for our next foray into TFedness. I actually had it for the one last Saturday, but there was lightning moving in, so I didn't want to chance it with the new precious.
And thanks to CR for working with me on this. And cool background - looks familiar!
The case was the all black aluminum CoolerMaster ATCS 840 which is an inch or so taller and a couple inches longer than the largest full-tower I had built in prior to this but being all aluminum it was actually lighter. With 4 CPU cores humming along @3.5 Ghz and 8GB of fast RAM (the board was actually very picky and wouldn't accept any other memory off the QVL... it really loves the good stuff though) and a factory overclocked VaporX edition of the fastest single videocard you can buy it's now officially the (new) fastest and largest system I've built (sorry Pyro
).
As for the electrical storms the 3000 joules rated Surge suppressor was included (not optional) for that very reason. I've used them for years and even when the lights flicker here from a heavy storm none of my systems have ever had a problem. If you ever did take a severe surge it would blow the SS but your PC would be safe... you would have to buy a new SS before you fire up the PC again but it's much better than the alternative.Plus they ensure anything plugged into their SS upto $150,000 if the unit should ever fail to take the hit and protect the equipment.
As for the background yeah I thought you might like that.It was funny that soon after I sent out the machine that "memories" thread came up and people had forgotten that it was your commission in the first place heh.
Well ok since you ask...
Click thumbs for bigger images.
Sidenote: The top of the case is actually flat across... that thing you see with all the USB, ESata and Audio connections
on it is like a hydraulic bay you press on the top and it raises up to give you access to all the ports so you can plug stuff in.
Also this thing looks wicked cool in person but it's tricky to photograph something all black and shiny like this...
it's the flash that makes the two disk drives stand out, under normal lighting the facade is uniformly dark and even though
it looks like it has a polished high-gloss finish it actually has a brushed metal finish which you can see really well in the last image.

Quote:If you read the OP Battlewraith you will see that this was indeed an elimination month.I thought Happy-Dan got disqualified, so Tartyr lives to fight another day.
With 11 contestants and 9 months to go (now 10 and 8) we were overdue to have an elimination.
In fact, assuming there are no other drops (**gives the other artists the "don't even think about it look"**),
we will at some point have to have a few double elimination months. That'll be interesting.
-
Teleport + persistance will get you into all kinds of weird places.
I've gotten under maps and imbedded in ceilings before.
Fun spin on the situation Stygian.
-
Gratz everyone.
Congratulations especially to Johnnykat on your win in a hotly contested month (you soooo were following the vote lol),
and hey gratz on acquiring a superfan... he sounds like a fun guy.
Tatyrsause: Sorry you got eliminated but I respect that you decided to stay in and see it through to the end.
Frost: Thanks again for the handy chart. Even though I had my own detailed numbers sheet
this month I still enjoy seeing in chart/graph form, it's much appreciated.
-
I chose not to vote this month. I'll leave it at that.
@Scooter: I applaud you for choosing to view a negative as a positive, that story was inspirational.
@Suichiro: it was not a surprise to anyone who knew what to look for.
@Deebs: I agree with you.
If you can be forced to revise your submission or be disqualified over it then it is indeed a rule.
But seeing how open to interpretation (and making fun of) the hot chick rule is does set it apart in some ways.
@VexXxa: your last few links you posted have been broken for me.
There is just a half of a URL dealing with the word animals if I quote you or look at the link...
are you doing something differently? Does her link work for anyone else?
@Johhnykat: I don't know why anyone would flame you in a PM just for joining a contest (seems rather silly)
but then I don't know who it is or what their side of the story is. On that note...
very well since you are right here and there is no need to ask you in theoretical third person I will say it direct and plainly.
Are you the shaper? or is it anyone you know? -
I say the little elf dude in the Ski Chalet... what does he do with all those candy canes anyways??
Or Waldo... think about it, no one ever sees him coming... until it's too late.

An ATI Radeon 4870 should be perfectly capable of handling all the new visual goodies at any normal resolution. My first thought would be have you updated your graphics driver?
With all the new graphical elements introduced, now is a good time if you haven't in a while.
