Also wanted to congradulate you on reaching your goal! I'm actually using you as an example to get an artist friend of mine to draw more cause he complains about not havin enough to do. Here's hoping for another 60 great pieces and much more!
    Hey there Torrent Wave,
First up let me just say welcome to the best part of the forums! Good to have ya.
**checks to make sure no one else has beaten him to it this time**

    First! w00t!

Secondly thank you very much, I appreciate your saying so and, as for more good stuff to come, you have great timing since I have a flurry of stuff I am trying to get done in time for this months entry into the FArt (Fan Art contest that is... ahem), I am going to attempt a mini-comic in pencils which is a first for me as I never tried anything remotely like a multi-panel multi-page (I think I know why now too lol) visual story before.

Actually I've opened my project up to cameo appearances again this month so if you have any magic themed heroes you should go and read this thread quick and if you (or your friend if he/she has a game account) have anything that might fit post it up and maybe I can work it in... entry deadline is coming up fast though.

Thanks for that I was happy to reach my goal as well and while I'm glad it's past
I kinda miss it at the same time... might have to do that again at some point.

I'm always willing to help out other people with their art or their inspiration,
tell your friend I'd be willing to do an art trade or even a collaboration
with him/her if you think that would help get them going.

  5. Could just go watch any Operatives video like this one @ 28 seconds in.
The best of their vids I always thought (and it has lots of the classic Rikti) was Sabotage
(done to the tune of the Beastie Boys song) I have my own copy of it but I don't see it on Youtube anymore...

Edit: it's here on wegame... won't play directly from the site for me ymmv but just hit the download button and
watch it from your desktop with VLC, MPC (or any good player that can handle Flash Video).

Oh and @ 2:36 you get an extreme closeup of one... the cameraman bumps into his face lol.
  6. Nice drawing there Summer but you may want to two-click it to be on the safe side...
would hate for the thread to get mod-smacked for having boobs that can stare back at you.
  7. I am very aware of the deadline ticking away and am hard at work on a mini-comic.
I figure I can always enter a lesser (read: truncated version of the story) entry
if I cannot complete it in time but I'm thinking go big or go home.

Brief summation: One of my best known mains Chloe Macomber is attempting to do a retcon of Issue 5 the Forrest of dread. Both because it brought her lands into this reality and stranded her people here with the Redcaps their sworn enemies and because the enormous amount of power the event took had to come from somewhere and (in my story anyway) that somewhere is the super powered beings of Paragon... which would explain the depowering that happened (read: fricken crapload of nerfs ) during that issue and shortly there after.

She hopes to be able to send her people home and seal away the Redcaps for good while restoring powers to the heroes that lost them.

This will come at great personal expense unfortunately as this will undo her history as well where she gained her dark powers (from the Dark Servant that answered her call) and her radiant powers +control of the Shivans (from the day the meteors fell in Bloody Bay) and her epic battle with her younger sister Mary in the trial of 10 where she won the right to wear the witches hat and went on to retake control of the Cabal (a retcon in itself).

The ritual, if successful, would revert her to an underpowered "normal" witch, put her back under her sisters cruel thumb
and cause all the friends she has made along the way to have no memory that she ever existed... regardless she is determined to try.

The last several weeks have been spent planning and collecting lore/info needed and also on page layout and writing out the verbal story itself...
now in the final stretch I'm trying to draw the art for 1-2 panels a day and if I can keep up this pace it should work out fine.
Peeps can follow my progress in my NewArtz thread (images that will be part of the comic start at about here...)
plus there is yet a chance for a cameo, for those interested, check the Magical FArts (I know lol)
thread and post your magical themed heroes... do eeet!
  8. Thanks everyone.

Here is an update to Xodious.

P.S. still looking for a possible "seer" or Psi based hero with no hood... (want an unobstructed view of the face) from a design perspective I'm imagining a shot of them with fingers pressed to their temples and a far away look in the eyes as if searching for something. That's the idea for that panel @tm but it may change depending on if anyone comes up with something I can use or if the demands of the story/time constraints change it.
  9. Started in on drawing Xodious and writing out his spoken bits...

I present: Xodious Arcanis, Elec/Fire Blaster

Oh now this looks promising. The fact that he is opposed to dark magic works too as Chloe is a Dark/Rad (her powers kinda chose her though... she uses them good despite their nature) and I want some tension there i.e. I don't want everyone to just say yes right away, some resistance would be more interesting I think.

Great that covers one of the types I needed, thanks Malus!

For the others: I could still use another one or two magical types but I'm not really looking for villains @tm... these should be heroes or people willing to help even at expense to themselves for the greater good. Also could use a mender type.

Got witches covered already (Chloe, Katie Hannon, the Cabal etc).

I like the look of your Mender FlashRains (I do have a panel speaking about the time menders and calling their motives into question) but I think I have too many people wearing that same hood already. Anyone have a Mender themed character with no hood? If not I can just use Mender Silas.

Also I still need someone with mental/psi based powers.

P.S. That be a fine story Ennvee, but it be needing a wee bit o' proofreading.
...no idea why I'm typing a really bad Irish accent just now.
  11. Two variations on Gene-tech with the HUD and with eye sparks...

  12. I know, I know, it couldn't be helped... the title practically wrote itself.

So anywho I was sketching some layouts for my FArt entry this month (time permitting, I'm hoping to pull off a mini-comic) and it looks like I will need some other hero types to appear briefly and maybe even have some dialogue with my main Chloe to flesh out the story a bit.

What I'm mainly after are the magic looking types. A hero who really looks the part of Mystic or Seer or someone you might consult before attempting a large ritual that could have unforeseen consequences. Age/race/gender/body types are not the deciding factors here as any can have the gift of magical ability... it's all about the look.

I'm hoping there are some here that already have what I'm looking for (and who wouldn't mind a cameo appearance) which would save me from having to create a bunch of stuff from scratch myself.

Full length, close range (I don't need a lot of scenery/background in the images) screenshots please
and a quick line or two telling what powersets and how your hero is tied in with magic.

No promises here, but I will certainly try to work some into the piece so post em if ya got em and thanks in advance everyone.

    Well that's... ironic.
  14. Some things to consider.

    1) Contests are completely voluntary.

    2) The chances of winning are not in your favor.
Sounds like a given but unless there are only two entrants (50/50 odds) or your level of talent far exceeds all others participating or unless the contest is somehow rigged the odds will always be against your pulling off a win. You have the same chance anyone else does but I think most any reasonable person understands this going in.

    3) Despite all the "bad things" to do with a contest and knowing they will more than likely not win, people still enter them... in ever increasing numbers no less.

    4) If collectors running contests with the sole intent of raking in tons of art for little money become too common people will just stop entering those kinds of contests... and then they will cease to be common. Death by apathy.

    5) The well of commissionable artists will not dry up because someone ran a contest. The numbers may change and evolve over time but they will do that anyway regardless of any one person's contest or actions.

    6) BW I think that may be one of your best posts ever. Superlative comedic sarcasm (and some good points too )... minutes have passed and I'm still laughing at it. +1

Really nice panel work there!! You doing a whole book or just the one page???? (hopes fir whole storyline...) either way, that page looks awesome!
Uhhhh huh huh huh... you said whole.
  16. Gah picking 10 would be easier than trying to narrow this list of win down to just 5.
Oh well suppose I can't really go wrong here so...
(click thumbs to see full size)

    1) #47

    2) #33

    3) #62

    4) #18

    5) #6

Not too much overlap so far (to be expected with so many to choose from)
but 64 has the most interest so far followed by 49 and 59...

I am sort of doing this as my final image for the Robert Chang class. I liked the black and white thumbnails, but it was brought up that it looked like they were flying too low. I tried repositioning the characters and free transforming the background like crazy, but I wasn't happy with the results.

I redid the background with a birds eye view. I was avoiding using that view because I wanted to show the sky, but then I realized if I make the globe shiny reflective metal, I can still show the colors of the sky. Robert thought that was clever, kind like a composition within a composition.

Robert suggested reversing the direction of the sun, so I tried it. I do think their faces look a lot better lit by the sun. I also moved the city hall so it is close to the center of the street and not right next to the road. The background is still largely unfinished, and I need to work more on the characters as well.
That is coming along great LD and yeah the first thing I thought when seeing that first color image is it would look nicer if their faces were sunlit from the other (camera left) side... she has a happy "sunny" expression there already and it fits better with the mood overall. The background is much improved also as the shadows of the columns and lit facade of City Hall are much more visually interesting than the shadow that blanketed it before.
The whole piece is looking much better now and I can't wait to see where you go with it.

Also on that TA piece... that headlight looks like some kind of really cool beam weapon.
  18. Very cool stuff TSE I really like that first one you did of your namesake.
Oh and welcome to the best part of the forums.

P.S. Yeay another traditional artist... pencilers of teh worldz unite!

    P.P.S. Just read Caemgen's fine print... D'oh!
  19. Welcome back Wolffe, hope it was a good time.

    Airheaded Vision

Very cool hair touch ups and colors, way to go ES.
Nice addition to your collection Airhead.
  21. Female body type:
The "Bangs" hair clips badly with the "Headband" piece. This has always been one of my favorite combinations
to choose (I use it all the time) but it never used to have this problem. Now it's really gotten
pretty bad and actually creates a spike that pokes out the backside of the head.
    Examples:

I have not been able to find any kind of fix or work around as the sliders will not extend
the hair to cover it nor shrink the headband to recede behind the hair.

Worth mentioning is that the headband works fine with
other hairstyles that have similarly have bangs.
    Example:

Also the headband needs to be raised up a few millimeters so it doesn't cover the eyebrows so much.
If I were to connect the clipping lines on the center of her forehead (seen here) to the rest of the band
    Example:

The fix might look like this.
    Example:

But I think it should instead look like this.
    Example:

Thanks in advance for looking into it Jay... U R Teh Awesomez!
    Christopher

P.S. The game is in desperate need of this QoL addition to the CC...

  22. Does anyone know how War Witches death fits into the timeline of Issue 5 "The Forrest of Dread"
Did she die first, then Croatoa came to be and then her spirit appeared as a trainer there?
Or did Croatoa exist before her death and she then died and came to reside there?

I am a contestant in the 2010 Fan Art Challenge over in the 606 (screenshot and fan art) forum and the theme this month is "Retcon"
(as in Retroactive Continuity or the undoing of events to tell the story a different way) and I am looking to possibly undo issue 5
(always wanted to anyways ) for my submission so the correct sequence of events of her
death and reappearance in relation to i5 would really help.
    Thanks

Other than that, yeah it's cool.
  24. Nice one JY. Sets the stage for a new subplot and hints what direction the comic will be going.

Possibly 2 parts of a love triangle in the making?
On second thought you don't need to answer that I 'll just wait for the next comic...

*waiting (not so) patiently for the next comic*

  25. The Editor. Professional but not too drab, sexy but not over the top.

    Alternatively this could work too.
