  1. Cool. Thanks Aggelakis for spreading the word, we are seeing more new people finding their way here and it makes things more interesting come vote time.
  2. Hey Plainguy Eric Basaldua (or Ebas) as he is known isn't here and doesn't post in these forums just people that know him/have met him.
If you think you can be of some help you can note him here. http://ebas.deviantart.com/

Thanks U-Naught and I do hope to see you finish both those pieces... I like the ideas and it would be a shame to waste them.

TY PS, I'm sure like most of the others here it took years to get where we are... stick with it and practice practice pr... ya you know.

You should challenge yourself to draw something everyday if you really want to improve... even if it's just a 5-10 min sketch (anyone can find 10 mins in their day) keep after it and you'll get there in time.

You had a fine run BW and thanks for the props man.

sorry for the delay star-wind. finally found some time to finish this piece (CR jogged my memory about it at just the right time) Commissions and full time study have kept me very busy of late. lines by CR colors by me.

Hope it was worth the wait.

I'm always happy to work on your lines wassy, just let me know when you have an Idea for a collaboration. I'll try and think of idea's aswell.
Oh cool I'm glad the timing on this worked out. Nice classic look to it and very cool (err warm that is) job on the lighting.

    Gratz Starwind!

Heh well that would essentially be a self portrait wouldn't it.

Hahaha thanks a lot Bobby. He chose a different hero... (phew) now Caemgen on the other hand has a helm and the Heads Up Display Aura...
so... many... tiny... horizontal... linez! I'll have to see what I can do to represent it without going too insane on the detailing.

Oh and I should have posted this last night but first five slots were gone yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who grabbed one and to those who missed out, well Neener Neene... err I mean there will be another chance soon.
  7. That new avatar looks cool Quarrios and keep em coming Assisace.

Oh and welcome to the best part of the forums Chompie.
  8. Hmmm I read no malice in Bayani's statement. It's bad that this happened and I hope the guy is caught and the art returned but honestly if this is not the first time it's happened then Ebas should indeed take better care to not give a thief access, this is not being mean it just being honest.

Have a friend or someone he trusts keep an eye on his stuff at all times or if you have to pay for some security measures. It doesn't have to be security personnel but a bolt through locking clamp would make it so no one is walking away with your art unless they have your key or a hacksaw... I'd like to think they would draw too much attention hacking with a saw to not be stopped/caught, Or you can have the art stored in a hard case and LoJack it... it may cost a grand but sounds like the art was worth a hundred times that so why not? Then if someone walks off with your stuff they get a surprise visit from the cops an hour later and you get your stuff back.

If something like this ever happened to me... it would be the first and only time. Period.

I agree with Caemgen not all characters work in that style
but both Natrix and Pyro came out great. So now of course you must color Natrix as well, right?

  11. Great stuff man. I've been watching it all on DA as well. Somewhere along the way you hit the fast forward button on your coloring skillz and took off.

@Wassy: lol get in line he still hasn't colored my lines on Starwind's 1st prize Cannonbrawl Run (the checker badge in his sig) from last year.

Preaching to the quire man I walked away from art for more than 7 years. It took finding this forum and the 40 in 60 challenge to myself to get me drawing on a regular basis again.

I am willing but I wasn't sure if you really wanted "the list" of what I see in that piece or not. Also I usually post stuff here within our little neck of the woods and you seem to be directing traffic to DA which is a much bigger community so I've held off on saying much. Can't speak for why no one else is saying anything, it's been kinda quiet lately. Must be a lot of people outside enjoying the weather... wait who am I kidding they must all be inside playing closed beta.
  13. Hmmmm ok I'm thinking Valkyrie goes to Icon and orders a brand new suit of custom battle armor
but instead winds up in a Micro-kini... or if your really unlucky Infernal does too.
  14. Thought that was a new piece of McKinney art there for a sec... hey if you are just returning to the art forums welcome back Torell.
  15. All the info is here and thanks in advance already started sketching up the first of them.
  16. Hey there False Fiction welcome to the best part of the forums!

As for how I started I learned shading first but I was a kid at the time and probably couldn't pronounce anatomy back then.
If I were to start over I would say first thing is to train your eye to see things correctly and learn basic proportions.
If you don't know things like the eye line and lip line of most any face defines the top and bottom of your ear
(go ahead put a finger at the corner of your eye and corner of your lips and then slide the hand around to your
ear ) etc you will find yourself frustrated when things "just don't look right" but you cant see what's wrong.

For comic art I would say a great starting place is "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way"
and also spend a lot of time looking at other peoples art and apply what
you are learning by seeing the proportions in their work.

    Then Anatomy Anatomy Anatomy!
Once you learn where stuff needs to go to look convincing you then will want to understand the
skeleton and muscle groupings in depth to really take it to the next level. Here I would suggest
Dynamic Anatomy, or anything by Burne Hogarth and/or Bridgeman's.

Really honing your shading and detailing then will bring it all together and there are tons of
    good resources on this.

Finally none of these will happen in a vacuum, i.e. you will learn some shading with your anatomy
and some anatomy with your proportions and angles (hey there's Chocolate in my Peanut Butter!)
etc etc, but that is how I would tackle it and the Marvel book touches on all those plus
how to add more drama to a scene and imparting menace or danger by changing
the viewers perspective too. Best of luck FF!

P.S. The best advice beyond that is practice constantly! Take a sketch pad and a pencil with you
when you can be in front of your pc/tablet and sketch whenever you can. Also set a goal for yourself
if you are serious... I chose to do 40 drawings in 60 days and post them all for the world to see no matter
how they turned out (see my sig button for the results) and it put positive pressure on me to keep at it
even when I wanted to quit, plus having people here following along giving encouragement was huge...
after doing anything for 60 days it's pretty much a habit.
  17. First thought... W00t!

Secondly thanks to everyone that voted and gratz to all the artists, it was a tough month and
there were many great entries this time.

Third I'm sorry to see Frost and U-Naught go but hey 6 months is a great run and I personally
would like to keep seeing Frost's charts too they are very handy.

    Lastly... ummm I don't see a tie.

I come up with 45 for me not 42. I know some people voted
for me as Christopher Robin and some as CR...
is it possible one got missed?

Edit: yeah there are a few that are wrong actually... it's like you skipped Crestent's vote somehow.
  18. ChristopherRobin

    Aglow

    Very nice catch Unhearted.
Oh and welcome to the best part of the forums.
  19. This kind of stuff combined with your digital painting
talents will make for one heck of a 1, 2 punch.
    Carry on! *salutes*
  20. That looks great DD and I faved it on DA already.
I appreciate it you taking the time to make it
despite your thumb injury and all.

Oh yeah and I put the finishing touches on my half
of the trade last night and it's now done too...

    Clickity Click.
  21. It's both... and soon it will be for videos and other media it seems too.

Some very cool screenies there, numbers 2, 9 and 13 are pretty epic and that last one is very scenic. Looks like you guys had a blast.
  22. Yeah there is lot's of funny/cool signage in the game. Some of it, like the Skulls wall tat marking the Kings Row exit,
is blatant (although my favorite of those has to be the "City of Gyros" restaurant...
Gyro is a greek sandwich pronounced "Yeer-oh" lol) and some of it is more subtle like the police.

In case people were not aware the cop names in the game (I cannot confirm all of them as there are a few I cannot figure out yet)
seem to be clever spoofs on famous movie/tv cops. For example in Skyway there is a detective Westbrush...
another name for brush is "wood" reverse the map direction and you have Eastwood.
He even looks as close to Clint Eastwwod as the CC can make him lol.

In Talos it's detective Croquette and his partner Basins... Basin is another name for a bathtub... Crockett and Tubbs anyone (Miami Vice)?
Croquette even wears the white jacket and pants with a pink shirt and Basins is a black guy dressed in a light blue 80's looking suit.
There's also detective Murwell, Murphy is the name of the cop that was brought back as a cyborg in the movie RoboCop... he was played by Peter Weller
and yep you guessed it he wears a full suit of PPD armor and looks just like you'd expect a cyborg would. Detective Selnum is Magnum PI who was played by Tom Selleck. etc. etc.

The game is full of little clever gags like that for those who pay attention.

  24. Oh and in case it's not mentioned anywhere (or not obvious) she is a Martial Arts/Shield scrapper.

The button in my sig leads to an image I drew of her for my 40 in 60 challenge a few months back and there are some more refs there as well.
