It's belated but I kept expecting a thread to materialize somewhere else. If there was an official thread in another part of the forums
(I couldn't find one) then please disregard this but if not I didn't want the occasion to slip by unannounced and uncelebrated.
Cheers Jay hope it was a great day!
P.S. I've not seen a signature character of yours anywhere... do you have one you are known for?

Good thinking Camille.
There was a thread for what various artists around here use as reference when considering anatomy.
Not sure if that book specifically was mentioned but Loomis came up in it.
I added my own favorites titles by Burne Hogarth (Dynamic Anatomy), George Bridgeman's
(Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life) and Stan Lee (How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way).

Happy remembrance of birthing day! May it be filled with lots of Witch licking and cake.
Started up a sketch for ya already but I'm off to sleep now so I'll try and finish/post it later in the day.
I went all inks this time with no under-drawing or rough sketch and I'm really happy with how it's looking so far.

A very giving gesture Attache. I've always been a fan of spreading the art around and I applaud the direction you've chosen to go with this. Bravo!

@BAss:Hahaha, Teee Veeeee nuuuuooooo! lol
Here's one from my collection.
You see Higgins that's exactly why you shouldn't juggle a sword while walking up a flight of steps. -
I'm reminded of a rerun I saw of this...
@Ennvee: Now is as good a time as any to pop in considering what tomorrow is. -

Henri gave the name of the tablet earlier but it's not a Wacom (think it's a brand just sold overseas).
@Henri: Overall your coloring is very impressive for someone just starting out and you seem to be picking up things quickly at the outset so kudos to you.
I do have some con/crit, since you mentioned wanting some:
On the first piece I'll just talk general coloring/lighting since the lines are not yours and I have no technical experience with GIMP the app.
The most important thing I would point out with the lighting is to mind your light source(s) and it's direction.
When figures are drawn against a wide open sky they are usually lit either from behind (they are between the viewer and the light source), unidirectional (light diffused through clouds from all sides at once) or from various direct sources (the sun, power fx, reflections etc) or some combination. Since you have some really hot spots (nearly pure white on a black surface) it suggests a directional source that is very close by but the light/dark areas you have seem to conflict with this...
i.e. on his ribs near the buckles a very bright light is coming from camera left but the green waist cloth right
below is unaffected by it and the thigh lower down has a deep black shadow.
Or here where there is white over blue suggesting light is striking the left calf muscle but
the right one is blue over white... it should be nearly the same light striking both.
Here there is top down lighting on the shoulder cloth and what looks to be light from the power fx striking the right side of the arm but there is a hard black on the quadriceps muscle below that should be hit from both of these sources. There is also light striking the Vastus Medialis (large top muscle on the inner side that runs to the knee) and adductor area (series of small inner thigh muscles near the groin) from different angles but the light hitting the VM is not affecting the A and the light hitting the A is not affecting the VM.
As a whole there is a lot of good stuff going on here but the parts seem individually lit (and in conflict with each other) with little thought given to a cohesive whole.
I would suggest at some point after you put down your flats but before you start your lighting/shading you take a few moments and decide where the light is coming from and what areas should be lit... maybe even make a layer with little arrows that you can turn on and off periodically to check if the stuff you just added conforms to the light scheme you planned.
I hope you find my comments useful, you're off to a great start Henri... keep after it man.

@Foo: Raw is Jericho!
@Airhead: It's Chris Jericho a wrestler (if the wrestling championship belt didn't give it away) and talker of much trash...
or Kiefer Sutherland after a serious bender.

Nice job on the bust Twizded, I really like the eye lightning.
Hmm was it one of those server specific or SG specific contests
because I don't remember seeing anything in the art forums about it?
-
Did he keep referring to you as "Mr. Anderson" after you clearly stated your name was Neo?
Now you just need a text bubble over your head saying "OH YEAH?!?!! YOU AND WHAT ARMY?!?!? ...ummm oh, right that one."
This would be worth doing just for the fun of beating down a mob that size heh.

Not sure if I will compete this time around or not but I would make some suggestions based on comments so far.
As to what the Fox Rox and Fireheart are suggesting:
The point of eliminations is pressure just like the point of immunity was to inspire each artist to do their very best to get a reprieve from said pressure every month. Some may view pressure as a bad thing but in a contest where you are in for the long haul (like a year) you will at some point slack off unless there is something driving you (like one missed deadline and you're out).
That said I do think you could get a good competitive contest with a point system but it needs to be more weighted towards participation than any one individual months total points. 1pt is insufficient as someone could just come in 2-3 months with really spectacular pieces (think Lousy Day's massive landslide last January) and earn enough 3's to put it out of reach of anyone else. It won't feel fair to someone participating every month and you'll get a lot of people (perhaps even all) dropping out before the contest is over... if it happens early enough like the first few months in a row the contest will be over very quickly as what's the point of submitting when you are guaranteed (in that artist's mind, if not in reality) to lose. You need to feel every month that you are still "in it" to keep participation up.
Perhaps 5-10 points for every month of participation and 3,2,1 points for voting... not so much that it will override having the best piece but enough that no one quits because they feel too far behind to continue.
To what Alex suggests:
Yeah there would be many ways to game that. An artist voting for himself getting a 25% value score will either lead to everyone voting for themselves (in which case those in the lead will get further ahead and those behind will not have a chance and quit) or if a couple vote for the same person you could end up with a winner that is the crowd favorite not the top artist... it could become a popularity contest again rather than an art contest.
Also while I probably gave away more free art of other people's characters this last year (I'm a big fan of it) I would be against a separate area where people suggest use of their heroes and can award points based on this... it would lead I think to too much pressure to cram in as many people in each piece as possible. Also it could lead to people dinging certain artists because "they didn't choose me even though I was clearly perfect for that piece" (this month is fire... how many people have a fire based character?).
Who they want to draw should remain a voluntary choice on the artist's part to avoid hurt feelings and unnecessarily crowded pieces (of course an artist is still free to ask for volunteers to be in a piece but it shouldn't impact score to that degree).
I'd also be against letting artists ignore the theme for a small penalty in points as one of the best things about this contest is how it forces you outside your comfort zone and makes you try things you ordinarily wouldn't. You would get people drawing what they are best at all the time if they think they can earn enough points to win... what's the point in having a theme then? Think if the theme was tragedy and 10 artists submit their best tragic pieces but Foo submits a piece with boobs and wins that month. Who would follow the theme after that? :P Also this will put a lot of pressure on Bubba to "interpret" what is and what isn't technically valid.
Also if it is come and go as you please kind of contest you wouldn't want to require 12 pieces to even have a shot at winning for there exists the very real possibility that you may have no winner if all contestants miss a month at some point (because there isn't the pressure of elimination keeping them in every time) or you might have one person draw 12 sets of stick figures and win because everyone else has 11 or less submissions. etc etc...
I think an increased amount of points (over fox's suggestion) of 5-10 awarded for submitting on time every month would be the best way (short of elimination) to incentivise striving for 12 submissions from each artist. That way missing one month wouldn't be a deal breaker but you wouldn't want let it happen often.
If people really want to keep it an interesting close race there should be a way to earn bonus points... say 5pts for submitting 1-3 from the ranked votes and a bonus of 5 for best interpretation of the theme for example.
That way the one getting the most votes should still be the winner but he/she will want to submit every single month and try to do the very best adaption of the theme lest they be overtaken by another (or several others) who is (are) following the theme going for bonuses and submitting every month on time.
Something like that where the most votes still wins the day but there's positive pressure not to slack over the course of the year.
My two influ.

No way Neko!
...boobs get like their own century n' stuff.

Why the Chinese calendar of course.
I'm pretty sure the Year of the Foo is what comes after Year of the Tiger...
or maybe it was rabbit.

Well first off the ears don't attach to the shoulders... (seriously what were you thinking?)
...errrrrr rather, what Caemgen said, post an example if you want some specific critique. Otherwise simple generalized statements are probably what you'll end up with. Speaking of which...
Eye line and lip line drawn back along the head usually define the top and bottom of the ear (assuming the head is facing you straight on... and the person is not an elf.)... study anatomy and look through photo stocks sites, while every model is different look for what remains constant in all images (about the ears, neck and shoulders) and make sure you convey that in your pieces.
No idea if this helps what you are trying to do or not though.

I think Fallout Girl just took out someones demon pet, snerk.
Coolness another DaD thread. This promises to be a good year for art.
P.S. I'm toying with the idea of starting another drawing challenge too but it will need to wait until I get caught up first.

Nice work on your latest colors Goat (and Twizded did a great job on her rotated pose).
Two things I would suggest... the black below her feet doesn't work... it would be better just to trim the image straight across there and fill in some skin tone on the black part that goes up the (camera) right leg.
Also because there is a bright metallic object reflecting light in her field of view I would add a white dot or sparkle to the right side of right iris slightly overlapping her pupil. The eyes are always moist and slightly reflective and this would help it not to have the same look as the skin/hair/lips. Cheers.

I really like the expressions of several of them in the collage. One thing (well other than the usual other things like Caemgen's human nose and horns, Fenian's green lips... etc
) I was curious about though does Gorm have a 2nd suit with pink human skin that you gave the artist as a ref?
Liking the Foo's piece as well (nice perspective) but for those wondering err... that's not the universal symbol for peace.

Happy BBD Jk! Hope it was a good one.

Quote:I didn't even notice that. Leave it to CR to point out the little things.......
I know many artists add Easter Eggs for the observant to find,
heck I've even done it a few times but I don't think anyone's spotted mine yet.

Especially if you use the new arcane symbols aura and set it to "combat only" on a kinetic melee hero. That way when you start making the movements to attack you will get arcane symbols swirling around you.

Love the painting.
Especially... well, all of it.

Real nice Camille.
I'm digging the (what look to be) Henna tattoos.

Welcome back Mash.
You may want to specify male or female (you listed Dr.Strange and Enchantress as possible refs so... maybe you don't care which?) or huge.
Also there is a costume design thread that is stickied at the top of the forum where this kind of post might get more attention from the costume people (the ones who like to share their designs that is) around here.

Welcome back man, good to see you posting here again.
