Quote:This!It wouldn't even be so bad, but it also marks all threads as read. This is the bigger pain for me.
I thought it was something local wrong with my browser or a plug-in conflict of some kind. It's very annoying.

Is that a gift box under your skirt or are you just happy to see me?

It's that time of year again and the 4th annual City of Heroes Fan Art (FArt for short lol) contest is in full swing.
The first months theme is fire and contestants have already submitted their pieces here.
Look them over, pick your favorites and vote.
(voting thread should appear Sunday)
If you like art head on over 606 forums and take a peek, suggest a theme or discuss your favorite piece.
If you're lucky you might even get some free artwork of your favorite character (you should have clearly
visible, close-up, well lit screenshots of your character ready to go in case any of the participating artists ask for refs).
Cheers!
Christopher

NP and no worries, everyone goes at their own pace. After all, you can't rush great art.
So ummm like getz to eet... we needz moar Vex artz nao!

Indeed it is and that is what I strive for in my drawings too. That each one is an improvement in some way. Sometimes it's a new distinction you make internally, like you used to see X one way but after your latest drawing you now see it slightly different and your concept of X advances as your ability to render it improves.
Then it's just a matter of stringing enough of them together.

Looks like Ice will be Feb's FArt theme.
While I do have a few Ice based heroes of my own you might not know it to look at them as their outfits don't necessarily advertise it.
So I figure I'd open it up to the forums and see if anyone has a character who's look really says ice or cold in
some way who wants a shot at being a part of some "cool" (see what I did there) art.
Post ja refz!

Quote:No good either... people would vote for themselves all 3 times as a way to avoid giving points to the competition... it's not always the most 3's that wins it, often times having the most 2's and some of the 3's can score a win. By giving yourself all 3 votes and disqualifying your 2nd and 3rd place votes you deny giving someone else a 2 and a 1.Prehaps the rule could be that although you can vote for the same entrant 3 times, they only receive the points for their highest place vote. So for instance there were only 2 entrants one month and voting resulted in
1st: Entrant x
2nd: Entrant y
3rd: Entrant x
then entrant x would receive 10 points for 1st place, nothing for 3rd, entrant y receives 9 points for 2nd.
In the event of an entrant voting for themselves 3 times, the same rule would apply. Otherwise all entrants would have to vote for themselves 3 times to ensure themselves a fair run, resulting in all those votes cancelling each other out. If that was the case you may as well disclude entrants from voting.
I'd think the fair thing is pick your three favorites or pass and no one gets your points.
FYI If I understand it correctly, it's actually 3, 2 and 1 points respectively for vote points not 10, 9 and 8. Those larger FArt points (along with the 10 for participating and any bonus points) are awarded at the end of the month to the person with the highest total of 321 vote points.
Quote:............I haven't fully fleshed out exactly how the points system will work, I think it is best to let a couple months worth of points go by to see how they start adding up before I set anything into stone.........
Set everything in stone at the outset and adhere to it for the duration.
Only make changes/exceptions in extreme or unusual situations.
Less room for error and/or a last minute plan backfiring.
P.S. One further question has immunity in any form been decided on?
Meh there are 5 months before you even have to worry about being eliminated and from Bubba's above post it doesn't sound like the FArt points will be the deciding factor (??? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out) then either.
That said j00 should totally startz assassinating people in teh alphabetical order...

Man that's awesome. Great way to showcase your SG artz.

P.S. There are people who earned a million dollars worth of prestige in your SG??? -
Very nice VexXxa.
Two things really stand out in this pic...
Her hair and oh hey you got the V in her neck. Ahem.

I have some questions/concerns.
Some things that should be addressed early on, three that I'll mention here, sent you a PM Bubba with some others.
1. Voting for the same person all 3 times. While Bubba hasn't officially stated if this is possible or not under his rules it defeats the purpose of having a multi-vote.
When I first came up with the three point system last year it was as a solution to hugely lopsided vote that happened the first month because people could only vote for one person (Lousy Day won by a landslide while at the other end I think there were several people tied with 0 votes).
The idea of switching to a 3 vote system was to spread the points out more and let people who were torn between several entries pick all their favorites.
2. How much is an individual vote worth? It's already a different system from last year so is it 1pt for each and whoever gets the most mentions then gets 10pts at the end? Or is it still 3points for 1st place, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd and most accumulated points total (and not most mentions) earns you 10 at the end.
3. A ten point must system works fine when you have less than 10 participants, we have 9 currently but since there are no eliminations until June and a late berth into the contest is coming up in April what happens if we end up with say 15 artists in May?
1st place = 10pts
2nd= 9
3rd= 8
4th= 7
5th= 6
6th= 5
7th= 4
8th= 3
9th= 2
10th= 1
11th= ???
12th= ???
13th= ???
14th= ???
15th= ???
If a couple of the same people come in last in both May and June who gets eliminated? Will we switch to a 15point (or however many artists there are) must scoring system where the lowest earner can get no less than 1pt? Will that throw off the intended scoring as the months progress making certain months more valuable than others? It can work that way but I'd like to know in advance if possible.
-------------------------------------------------------
Finally I (and I would think those who missed the start date) would like more info about how the late berths will work. Doesn't need to be right away but preferably before April rolls around.
Also I agree with the part Caemgen mentioned in the vote thread about points being given starting after an official decree... awarding points retroactively is not a good precedent. -
Quote:@RDH: Voting is open to everyone on the forums you haven't missed anything. If you mean you missed the deadline for entry, there will be two other late berths (1st in April and again in August) so you still have a couple chances to get in. Also there is no reason you cannot post up art month by month anyway until then, you just won't earn any points.Well I missed this. Missread it totally...............
Anyway, If I'm allowed to vote..............

Well both Muro (built into DA) and GIMP (if you prefer a standalone app) are completely free and there are tons of free tutorials on Youtube and DA where you can get a clue.
If you are just starting out you shouldn't expect professional grade coloring just think of it as an experiment or as goofing around for a little while, grab a paintbrush pick a color and go... you might surprise yourself.

Could be, in which case they need to update their FAQ. Thanks for looking though both of you, it's tough to tell between invisible buttons that exist and invisible buttons that are no longer there.

Hmm slash marks on his face... someone lose a fight to a catgirl?

Edit: Never mind I got drag and drop to work in IE8 (still doesn't work in FF or IE6) on another one of my computers here.
I would still like to know where the edit button is though if someone can post a screenshot or just tell me where it is.

Quote:I would have no objection to you entering but don't you need fire or something remotely fire-related in your picture?Nice to see some last minute entries. I was considering entering myself due to the small number of entries. Here's my own last minute inspiration and/or submission. It may seem bad form for the organizer to enter their own contest, but then again, I don't judge anything, I just organize it. If anyone at all objects, this will just be inspiration for the other entrants... very bad inspiration, but inspiration nonetheless.
Sidenote: I posted a thread in the player events section about the FArt, if someone else could update the thread periodically as the months progress it would be appreciated.

I tried that (and every other common way I could think of) but when I drag and drop the folders they just jump right back into the wrong order as soon as I let go of them.
What I want is to move the folder I just created (2011 FArt contest) up to the top so there is no need to scroll down the page to see it.
-
I think you should color it Kheldarn (as long as it's ok with LoveDie) it's good clean lineart, which I'm told is the best kind to practice on, and you can't "ruin it" as long as you save a copy.
You don't need to post the result if it doesn't turn out (but then again VexXxa will totally demand to see it n' stuffz so you may as well post it) but you'll never get skilled unless you try.
Go for it!
-
Thanks Kheldarn but if you read the OP I figured out how to delete a folder I'm looking for the blue "Edit" button (it's supposed to be under the browse tab in your gallery) that will let me reorganize the folders and put them in order. Edit this widget does not provide an option for putting folders into a specific order.
But at least I know that button looks like a pencil now because on my screen it looks like this...
-
Anyone else have this problem where there should be a button there is nothing but blank space? The delete folder button (it may be called something else but I wouldn't know since I cannot farking see it
) is not there I just found it accidentally by angrily button mashing around the vicinity of the folders after looking all over for a button to get rid of an extra folder I didn't want. The button for "new folder" is there but not edit/delete folder.
Also missing were the "what picture do you want to upload" buttons but I know from practice what piece of invisible space to click on to make the upload from my computer window appear. (this button which has been absent since I started submitting to DA appeared out of nowhere about a month ago)
My question (other than is this just me or do others have this problem) then is I want to organize my folders into a different order but after digging through (the very poorly laid out) FAQ I found the steps where it tells me to go to the browse tab in my gallery and click the blue "edit" button... which as you probably guessed doesn't exist. GRRRR!
I'm sure some people must be able to see the button, can someone take a screen cap of where the edit button is located so I know what section of invisible space to click on?
P.S. I looked both in Firefox and IE6 to make sure it wasn't just a browser issue.

I'm liking the look of Dream Girl's flared skirt and the fence under Ultimo is great too but Serendipity (I like her face, hair and wings especially... plus her suggestive dripping brush made me chuckle) and Nurse White "Lets Go!" (got me psyched to stop reading the forums/drawing and go play the game for a while
) are my overall favorites of the recent crop.
@Sensei: Someone who enjoys biting her lower lip?

Your welcome LLD.
Lately I've been trying to lean how to create things like water, ice, weather etc digitally,
it's been harder than I thought it would be so I now have a better appreciation
for things with repeating patterns and making them look convincing...
it's a skill all in it's own.
My clouds aren't quite up to snuff yet but I did
teach myself a pretty cool fire effect today.
