There was one, not sure what it was called but someone did it as a school project and a bunch of people posted their faces.

  2. I'm curious Henri, is that a cheers of...
"cheers CR I've read over your thoughts for the contest extensively and by jove I think you've hit upon a winner!
Jolly good show my man and God Save the Queen harrumpf!

    or a cheers of...
"cheers CR I see we both had the same idea to post first and oh hey glad
someone noticed the brand name on the shades"

    or is it just... cheers.

P.S. okay I admit it's been a several years since my most recent visit to England
but I'm pretty sure everyone still talks that way n' stuffz.
  3. **The TLDR "gist of it" is in yellow **

Cool (heh) piece Henri, I dig the Oakley engraving.
I had a piece ready to submit @ 11:38pm last night (I decided to
spend more time on it now and post later) in case Bubba hadn't changed the rules.

Not sure if he read my hidden text in the vote thread or figured it out for himself but
I'm glad he addressed it promptly either way as 5 points is just too much of an advantage for
someone who did not get the most votes. Who would want to try their best when instead you could
literally come in 5th place for the month and still beat out the first place guy just by posting first? (+10+6+5 beats +10+10)

After running the numbers a bit I suggest it be +2 points to anyone making the early deadline & +5 points to the winner of the most votes.
This would mean the winner is always going to be the winner and no one will overtake him that month but the 3rd place guy
could overtake the 2nd place guy or the 6th could overtake the 5th or the 2nd could be right on the heels of the
leader which would keep things interesting but not let someone near the bottom pass the leader by an
unrecoverable margin and over time (if he kept posting first) go on to crush the people putting
up the most voted on pieces each month. I don't think that should not be possible.

Also it would (correctly I think) incentivize people to post early but more importantly to really post your absolute best piece to try and go
for the win each month even if it takes you longer. Also over the long run EVERYONE will really be bringing their "A" game to try
and win at least one month and strategy can really come in to play. For example if you had a hard time with one months
theme you try and post fast to stay within striking range of the overall points leader but on a month where you
think the theme is right up your alley you go for the 5 and could conceivably leapfrog several places in the
rankings. i.e. over the course of 4 months someone biding their time and posting early each month until
they saw an opportunity to win and then going for it (+2 +2 +2 +5) could outscore someone who
went for the win each and every month and won twice (+5 +0 +0 +5) and they could both
get edged out by someone who's both fast and managed to win once (+2 +2 +7 +2).

Lots of viable strategies to win over time, emphasis would be on putting up the best
piece you can (rather than rushing to post the very first piece) and there would never be a dull vote.

    Thoughts?

  4. Cool chart (I liked when Frost did these so I'm glad to see them continued) Bubba.

    Just two problems (initially)

    1. You shorted BattleWraith a point.

His votes went 3123- 3231- 1322- for a total of 26 which ties him for third place with Henri.
You haven't officially said what happens in case of a tie, do they split the points? (that would be a twist...)
Or do they each get 8 and everyone else's score gets bumped by 1? Something else?

    2. anyone?
airhead changed his piece after TBA submitted his so tba had the first finished piece up... he should get the 5 points or actually IMHO they should split it
and a new rule should be made to address it. Otherwise what's to stop someone from posting a stick figure 10 seconds after
the theme is posted and then changing it at the end and still getting the 5 points.
P.S. 5 points for being first needs to be changed (either give multiple people a chance to win it or reduce it to 2 points)
or else you can come in 5th place (for posting a stick figure lets say) and still beat the first place winner.
This gives incentivizes you to be try and be first not to try and do your best.
  5. That depends entirely how Bubba intends to define leader.
(I can't be the only one to see it, can I?)

    My votes.

#1. Henri (best implementation of fire)
#2. Techbot Alpha (also definitely says fire and good detailing on the robotics)
#3. Defiance Jones (impossibility of actually burning something made of water aside who hasn't at some point wanted to chop a snowman in half )

  6. Well 2nd, 3rd and 4th places are all within 3 points of each other if that's what you mean.
Still anyone's game but I think everyone is distracted by Double XP.

Your welcome Goat. I'm happy to help other artists learn stuff if I can and in turn learn new stuff from them.
(Edit: wow that sounded cheesy... if I say Sharing is Caring someone taser me please. )

Anywho I usually fill in shadows by hand myself (but then I have a penciling background not a digital one) however
I do have a few quick easy ways to generate shadows digitally I've picked up. I'll post the steps for two of
them over in mah thread (so I don't clutter yours with off topic stuffz) the "Knock Over" and the
"Drop" and from that you should have a good basis of techniques to to get you going.

but I try to post helpful/constructive comments when I can.

    Feral Kat artz!

    Somebody needs a big hug...
and is apparently willing to take it by force?
  9. @Sensei: Either she's not reading the replies or she's not telling.

It could be her I suppose... ?
  10. Actually MArdi Gras can fall on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9... this year it's March 8th.
But good thinking Sensei that might make for a more interesting theme for March than "Back to School" or "Spring Fever".
  11. The latest one is better in practically every way. Great job Goat.

One thing that might make a cool added element is instead of having strangely colored grass everywhere like in the earlier
one or green grass but only in the periphery like the recent one how about a combination of sorts.

I'm thinking you should have really thick grass, green and healthy, all around him but the grass in his immediate vicinity be blackened, deformed and dead.
Grass is a living thing so it adds more menace to the character if his very presence is causing death to his environment. Whatcha think?

Also he shouldn't just have a shadow at each foot but it should connect and be thicker in the middle (cast from the trunk of his body).
  12. It certainly never hurts to. I always use a driver cleaner if I am switching manufacturers brands (swapping out an Nvidia for an AMD/ATI or vice versa).
It's also a good idea if it has been a really long time since that card's driver has been updated.

If you are just updating from say version 3.16 to version 3.17a though it's not really critical.
But I always make that restore point beforehand though in case the new driver
has a bug or I need to revert back for some reason.
  13. Lol. If your spandex rips open at the gut you know you've enjoyed Thanksgiving a little too much.

Guessing something Valentine's related for Feb?
  14. Speedfan is a great app and one I install on nearly all custom rigs I build... I avoided mentioning it only because

    1. It doesn't work with all motherboards (although I've spoken to Alfredo and he is very diligent about updating and if you send him your boards profile he can add support for it)

    2. It can't read all videocard temps.

    3. Speedfan won't work if he is playing CoH on a Mac.

    4. You do need to be at least a little tech savvy to set it up and know what the temp readings mean (and what the acceptable range for your parts is) if you are to make any sense of info it gives you whereas almost anyone can update their video driver and/or open a case (usually just two screws), spray some air and scoop out dust bunnies and see if the problem goes away.

I still highly recommend Speedfan and it's worth the download to see what kind of readings (if any) it gives you. If anything it would make a good step two.

    1. Update drivers (if you haven't done this in a long time, or ever, it would be a good idea to do so anyway)
    2. Try SpeedFan
    3. If you suspect heat or dust is an issue clean out debris with compressed air so you avoid touching anything inside your case.

P.S. It's a good idea to make a System Restore point, assuming you use Windows (XP or newer), before you update your drivers. Google it if you don't know how.

    2011 FArt battle

I've run several scenarios mathematically but it's somewhat problematic because I don't have all the info about what you are planning points wise but given what I know I'd say...

Either drop the 2nd berth or move it way up. Anyone coming in at August is either too far behind in points if they matter and if they (the points) don't matter then they have too much of an advantage being able to come in late passing all the months others had to submit work and getting a pass against the first two eliminations (June and July if that is what you have planned). They only need to submit 4-5 pieces as opposed to 12 and if they did earn enough points to buy an immunity (not sure of the value or implementation here just guessing) then they skip 3 eliminations.

If you are set on having a way in for people who missed January's deadline I'd suggest having just one berth in February
(or possibly March if you need time to come up with a way to implement it). This also avoids people already eliminated coming back.

Bear in mind from a numbers standpoint no eliminations until June means there will only be 7 at most and since we have 9 people already there will need to be some double eliminations... or even triple presuming some will use points to avoid being bumped. That begs a whole other question... if the person with the least vote points one month buys a "free pass" with his FArt points to stay in does the person with the next lowest amount of votes get bumped? If so theoretically you could have everyone burning their points in the same month (very likely since who wants to get kicked when they can afford a free pass not using points won't help if you are out of the contest) which means you could win the vote that month but still be eliminated if you are the only one who cannot afford immunity. You could also find yourself with 2 people left and one has enough points to buy immunity which would mean he couldn't lose... which would be similar to last years dilemma.

I'll let others give their own suggestions before I comment on the rest.

P.S. One thing that would help is a head count. Knowing how many participants we would have total would make planning out how many eliminations need to happen easier.
How many artists that missed the first month would join in Feb or March if they had a chance to?

    1. Darth Delicious? (I'm guessing )
    2. Lady Cyrsei? (expressed interest earlier)
    3. RogueDemonHunter?
    4. others???
    5. anyone else???
  16. Kids, don't do Dyne.

But yeah as stated above you should update your videocard drivers and buy a can of compressed air, turn your machine off completely and unplug it, take off the side and blast out any fans (especially the cpu, videocard and the rear exhaust fans) and dust bunnies thoroughly, leave it to dry for several hours to be on the safe side (unless you are extremely careful with compressed air it will spray a little bit of liquid in your case and you don't want moisture on your electronics) then put the side back on plug it back in and fire it up and see if the textures are back to normal.

...yes I do build computers, whatever gave it away.

    @Red: Woah psychodelic.
  17. Annnd done.
I seem to be drawing a whole lot of topknots lately... wassupwitdat?
Come to think of it... fire based, leather masks, topknots with long hair, Pyro as the first name...

    naaaaaaaah.

    Click. Click. Click.
  18. Woah! It was so long ago I'd asked about one of these that I had honestly forgotten all about this but that looks amazing Znergy!

There are so many cool design elements here. Plenty of white and gold, the hearts pattern on her leggings in one outfit you moved up to her bodice and (since she is goddess of sunlight as well as illusion) it looks like you replaced her Nemesis staff with a Solar powered staff. What a great idea.
Oh also love what you did with the jeweled diadem and choker too and now, like many others have said... I want those energy based wings in the game.

Love it man, thanks for making her over and welcome back.

P.S. That must be your favorite female face hunh? It looks to be the same one in most all your female mock-ups thusfar.
  19. AHA! So that's what "influence" looks like!

Always wondered about that... so wait is Sister Psyche less influential now???
(i.e. "What do you mean my name isn't on the guest list anymore!?!")
Will she have to stand in line outside of trendy night
clubs like Pocket D now waiting to get in?
    No wonder she looks horrified.

Gratz again Jophiel on the score.
  20. Errr make that Happy Birthdays "for" Alex... what was I thinking?

Cheers buddy! Glad to see you back on the forums
and hope you have an awesome day!

Images "for" Alex (see what I did there? ) to follow
... as soon as I can figure out who his current main characters are.
  21. Yep I am working on something for this but it got kind of overshadowed by the FArt. Needed to make sure I got my entry in on time.
Any other artists that missed the FArt entry should consider creating something for the JAM as a warmup until April when they get a chance to enter it.

For me the theme of drunken resolutions was proving challenging but I think I have an idea that combines several things I've been working on all into one.

  25. Some of that too (hey it was Mexican night at the cafeteria ) but mostly it's about City of Heroes art done by your fellow forumites.

Even better everyone with a valid forum account gets 3 votes
(pick your 1st, 2nd and 3rd place) to cast for their favorite pieces.

Voting thread is up now right here...
