Quote:Thanks.Thats awesome!
And yes something like that is what I was thinking. What would you want your by line to say? It'll probably be something like:
would be fine.

Contest time peoplez!
I was saying for a long time that I would hold a contest when I hit 25k pageviews on my thread and well I just past 35k so it's time to get the show on the road!
Now that I have a little gap in my schedule and the Feb FArt piece is finally completed (phew) it's time for teh givingz away of da Artz!
There will be several chances to win depending on how fast these go. First up will be some random number guessing.
Typical rules apply for this one, I pick a random number between 1-100 and you all try and guess it.
Only one guess every 24 hours per person allowed. Prizes will be mostly pencils but I may
include some softbrushing (like this) that I have been doing in my thread lately.
Okay I have a number let the guessing commence!

Quote:Lol just minutes after I posted my FArt entry (midnight) I ran into that forum bug that logs you out and won't let you log back in (it says your password is wrong no matter if you have it auto filled in by your browser the EXACT same way it's been entered the last hundred times spelled perfectly it will still tell you it's wrong and block you from logging in). I was prevented from posting until the afternoon when I put up Sensei's thread. I could read your post asking for refs but couldn't respond... hahaha I swear it's a conspiracy.I am feeling super generous so Someone else go ahead and gimmie something, I'll have em up before monday

Quote:Thanks RDH and sorry to hear you are overworked. There is still March left if you want to jump in this or you can participate1: Darth Delicious (Who can resist an evil cat with ice cream?).................................
And sorry all. Again nothing from me. Overworked with the home care. haven't felt like drawing in weeks. Forgive me.
Still enjoying seeing your wonderful stuff though.
alongside but not in the contest or there is the Art Jam that could use more artz too.
P.S. One more thing Amerikatt is not evil she is the good hearted Defender of Truth, Justice and the Nomerrific Way! errr ...so I've heard.

Hopefully I just said Happy Birthday in your native tongue... of course the thread title could
just as easily be saying "It's raining green turnips" for all I know.
My Maori is a little fuzzy.
Either way hope you have a great day Comrade.
*sigh, no rest for teh drawinz of da birthday artz it seems, clearly
a lack of planning and foresightz on da part of forumite parents*
Update: It's done.

Hey that looks really nice LoveDie. Cool ethereal effect.
Oh and thanks for the cute Chibi too.

Quote:Well that seems a much different opinion than what you've held in the past but no matter my initial objectionThe only really tangible result that comes from this contest is that people produce art and maybe develop as artists or do things they don't normally do. Participation is more important than haggling over the rules. Bubba if you drop out I beat you!
wasn't with Bubba's participation. He failed to put up a qualifying piece, simple as that.
This is a contest and (like it or not) there are rules if you want to participate.
Jan's theme was Fire and this was Bubba's entry
<---Click
Do you see anything remotely resembling fire?
Some squiggly lines indicating where there will be fire at some point perhaps?
He can't (nor is he trying to) say he didn't understand what the theme was
or when the deadline was since he's the one that set both of them. In the past if anyone else had
failed to submit they would be out therefore so should Bubba but instead he made an exception allowing himself to continue
and as the host awarded himself 11 points. This is what I had a problem with because if we are going to have rules they need to apply to everyone equally.
Of course now with the rules changed to allow open participation through March he could probably
jump right back in if he wanted (that's not for me to decide) but in my opinion he shouldn't get any points for his Jan entry.
P.S. As for participation there's no reason anyone outside the contest couldn't post their interpretation of the theme right alongside those in the contest and play along without rules or votes.
Quote:Nooo! Hang on! Simplicity is the key here! Don't be to harsh on yourself. You can do it.
a long time ago and if the goal was just to create it in pencils it would be. I've got a pretty decent ice effect...
...I just cannot get Photoshop to do what I want for the rest and I'm tired of fighting with it.
I'll probably just make up something later, for now I need a break.
Lol if you stare at it for a few seconds you'll realize the shark flying up out of the water is an order of magnitude smaller
(it doesn't even fill the view out the tiny airplane window) than the one that bites the plane a second later.

Quote:No not at all. Lets see here...I am assuming I am late by now but I still feel like sharing
This is my ice blaster
Capt Quebec
and you can clicky here for more images of Capt Quebec
Posted with plenty of time to spare. Check
Thoroughly read the orange text to see what I was looking for. Check
Female character. Check
Unmasked/uncovered face. Check
Compulsive nature. Check?
Just what I needed, thanks Thornster.
That's actually pretty close. I probably would've used this had it been posted earlier.
Thanks for the effort (most of) you guys I went ahead and threw something together myself.
Mayhap I'll try this again another month.

Cool, thanks for the quick setup tutorial Cami, I picked up a thing or two
(used multiply all the time on brushs but not for a layer mode with my pencils) while watching this.
Are you going to finish up the coloring (I'd love to see it) or was this just for instructional purpose?
-
Methinks you completely ignored my latest post MotherF.
That character is neither female nor does is have an uncovered face.
-
Suichiro's not wrong about the conflict of interest Bubba (to be fair though it's not like he's never been party to one himself
).
Participating is one thing but as soon as you used your powers as the host to bend the rules for yourself
you created an issue and I did forewarn you it was likely to come up at some point.

Quote:Oh so it's like that is it? I see...Well...after this absolute monster has finally been flattened and purtied up...all I can say is;
Booyah!
Nice work TBA, way to bring it man.

Hey Bubba I like what you did with your entry. The style reminds me a of a set of Russian Nesting Dolls. Nice.
You've asked for con/crit before and if that is still the case
I have three basic ideas that might help you improve aspects of this piece:
1: Her hand is a little small. With fingers extended it should be close to the length of her face.
2: Her jawline should trace up to her ear not the back of her skull. It makes the head looked detached otherwise.
3: The buns don't match. If you measure the gap between her (camera) right bun and the top of her ear and then estimate
where the top of her other ear is (about equal with the eye line) and look at how big the gap is from there to the bottom of the left bun. Do they match?
There are other minor things that could be done but fixing these three would make an immediately noticeable improvement.
Also I like what you did with the ice blocks, even being the that it's same figure (just reversed and re-sized) on all of them, it gets the job done
and the piece reads well (I can tell she is sad and guessed it was because she had to freeze those guys in blocks of ice before I read your text describing the scene) too.
Cheers.
P.S. It looks like the top of one of the ice blocks got cut off, third one in from the left.

Quote:Fixed that for ya.The fact that some of these entries will get more points than other ones that are finished properly makes a mockery out of the entire system, IMO. This contest is no longer completely about art, it's about playing the game.
It was a bit of an exaggeration.
When the point amounts were set so the person posting first could easily beat the artist with the most votes I was agreed it had ceased to be about art.
If/when the points are more weighted towards the highest vote count earning the most points it becomes mostly about the artz with a side component of strategy thrown in.
How this will play out remains to be seen, if it adds something fun/interesting then great, if not then whomever is hosting next year's FArt can always go back to a pure art contest format.
If we start seeing several artist's start turning in half finished work to get the bonus points then yeah that would be a detractor. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
@DarthDelicious: Lol that's great DD. The look on Amerikatt's face is priceless.
Looks like she's saying "All your ice creamz are belong to me."
P.S. No it looks like the contest is being held only on the CoH forums this year and not on DA.
@TBA: Yeah it's always been like that and I thought it was mildly annoying all throughout last year as well. Seems to me there is typically a flurry of votes at the beginning then a few days of nothing then a flurry at the end. I would think the voting could be handled in 3-4 days (rather than a whole week) and the lag time in the middle could be given back to the artists. That's just my opinion though.

I always enjoy seeing Nema's linework. This is no exception.

Hmmm test is not working for some reason. Bah I'll monkey with it later.
