Quote:She is one of a half dozen or so individual CoH players I found on DA that were not posting in the forums for whatever reason or who had posted a long time ago but lost interest because they didn't know there was an "art section" where creative types and collectors gather. Some (including Ferreter, Bhudicae, etc) are even artist's themselves...............Btw, who is this Ferreter? And why is she wearing my look? Just kidding. But it does make me want to draw her...
Bobby aka LJ (lurking)
I totally dragged her sorry butt kicking and screaming (or whatever you call that noise ferrets make when you drag them, haha ) over here.

Quote:Well I know several people here are working on making more believable hair, that pic of Ultimo you just postedThis is by far my favorite thread, which I have been lurking in for weeks... I should post something, but not sure what... open to suggestions.
Bobby
has really nice hair so I'm thinking a brief tutorial or some quick tips on how you achieved that look would be very helpful.

Dropping off another sketch, on the off chance the last one is a bit too "finished" looking, this one
is more rough so there is more to play around with. It's based on the Tiwali piece in Goblin Queen's gallery.
I've always loved the look of that piece so as a warm up sketch I thought I would try my hand at that style, have at ye!
Click the image to go to my DA page and you can get a much bigger version of it to work with.
Feel free to straighten up the teeth (on her collar) as this was just a quick drawing I wasn't too careful in their placement.
Also if, it's not readily apparent, that is the tip of her tail in the bottom left not her shoulder armor.
Quote:Minx mentioned somewhere that even though they are goggles in Coh she actually envisions them as thin material webbing similar to Spiderman's eye coverings.................... I went with the darker rings around the eyes and the inner highlighting because I was attempting to replicate the goggles in the reference which stand out from the face. The flat lines and the highlighting around the eye you used make them almost seem even or sunken in to the face instead.
Though I'm not even sure I managed a goggle effect either. You did overall manage much more depth and texture.................
Quote:Those are great and I'd love to get one but without a job atm that's going to be a bit tough lol. Hopefully my jewelry store picks up in sales and I get one of the jobs I applied for soon................... P.S. I love Newegg. The comp I'm running is completely custom built from parts I got on that site lol.
That's cool you're rocking a custom build too, all my rigs are customs
as well and I use Newegg for like 60% of the parts I order, one of my favorite e-tailers.
Quote:PsiBug, I don't think you should limit yourself.
However, if you think you have overstepped whatever value of 'collaboration' you think is appropriate, then I suggest two things:
- PM the original artist and discuss it. Perhaps you can work on the changes Together!
- Post the new art anyway, but be clear in the commentary that you feel you've made major alterations. Apologize, if you feel it's necessary.
But don't throttle the Art, or apologize for the Art itself.
Be Well!
Fireheart
Even major alterations would be fine with me (assuming it's ok with the other artists as well) but in the above example it was immediately apparent to me that there was nothing left of DD's work. Not her lines, nor her colors nor anything of her style remain in the finished piece so to me it's a very nicely done piece of art but it's not a collab.
That said it's a great piece (I knew DD would still love both the piece and the gesture from Psi-bug) and people can obviously still learn much from seeing a different artists take on one of their pieces.
Quote:Collaboration is a pretty open-ended term. There are probably as many different ways to collaborate as there are groups of people who want to work together. I think what Chris means by it, in the context of this thread, is the comic book style division of labor: drawer, inker, colorist.
If the original linework has to be preserved, maybe that should be explicitly stated? It pretty much rules out people who use a painterly approach, such as myself, from this collaboration.
This is a collab that I did with Lexi-chan where I made several major alterations (fixed up her chest, the chest emblem, her waist and completely redid her supporting leg) and I also went around the whole exterior and removed all the stray white pixels from her line work but I think it's pretty easy to tell this is a collab. Her style is still plainly evident in both the before and after shots and the finished result looks like a CR/Lexi collab not a CR redraw of a Lexi-chan piece.
I actually would hope you (and any other painterly types as well) do participate BW... there's no question in my mind that many here could learn a lot from working with you (as I have). We've collaborated a few times already and even though you painted over much of my linework, like say in this piece, I think both of our contributions show quite clearly (there is a link in the description to my original pencils) and it looks to me very much like a CR+BW collab, not a solo BW painting.

Sup Bobby! Thought that was you.
Sucks that you are only around for 5 days but glad to see ya posting anyway.
I've seen a couple of these appear (and then quickly disappear) on DA already and I like em all.
The Ultimo Girl piece really stands out of this crop (must all that pink) great work on her face and hair.
P.S. yeah I know what ya mean man, I hate it when free art happens, the nerve of some people to just up and
create awesome art of your characters and surprise you like... like... okay no I don't.
I can barely keep a straight face as I type this out.

Blue Boltage doesn't appear to be studying the pool table much.

You have only 64GB of free space on the 500GB hard drive where CoH is running.
Whenever you experience this incredible slow down do you also hear the hard drive grinding away full tilt (or if your system is noisy to the point where you barely hear the HDD when gaming does the disk drive activity light on your tower blink like crazy)?
If you just installed something right before the problem started happening then I would agree that you should test for it first as that is most likely the culprit, if not I expect your system is low on space and is having to "juggle" to try and keep up with demand.
Either way it wouldn't be a bad idea to burn off a bunch of your... video stuffz to DVD (shoot for at least 25% free space), then run CCleaner to get rid of any internet cruft (make sure you know all your online passwords beforehand) that's built up and then do a full defragment of your hard drives and see if that doesn't solve it for you. Cheers.

He last posted in February but still shows as online... he could be just lurking.

Welcome back, back... Back
...Alley Scrapper.
Good to see you've set up a central thread to collect all your artz (apparently it's what all the cool kids are doing these days).
You're off to a good start and I look forward to seeing what else you come up with.
P.S. From what little bit of the text I can make out it looks more like a Lit class you're slacking in than Chemistry.
You really aught to try some thicker paper with no lines for your art.
@Grant: "Where the Wild Things Are" was the first thing that popped
to me when I saw the troll as well, and thanks. I try.

Not sure how I missed this but very cool piece Steel, congratz.
Does Rooth have a DA page that you could link too?
-
Congratulations on your very first post and welcome to the forums Quinzel, your collection is off to a great start.
-
That first piece has always been one of my favorite "Images by Alex."
Your gallery is off to a great start Centinull, got anything in the pipeline?
-
Congratulations Ephemeris.
No worries Twizded the people here are pretty savvy and know that good art takes time.
Just keep us posted on occasion and we are okay with waiting...
...now get to it! We're all like totally waiting n' stuffz.

Quote:Nicely done colors Ransim. I think I like the dark ringed eye slits you put in your mask better than mine.Been busy but here is a go I made at coloring the Ferreter piece.
It ended up darker then I had originally planned unfortunately.
The one thing I would point out on your coloring is her torso should be two-toned (three if you
count the F chest emblem) not all the same color. Any tips or ideas on mine?
Couldn't you just dial up the brightness in whichever app you are using if you think it came out too dark?
Quote:Wonderful range of values. This looks great!
Love how the ferrets are multiplying in here too!
Hah, yeah I'll have to mention that to Mink... tay iz breedinz like wabbits.
Great job on that Chichester piece you did Psi-bug, it turned out really nice.
While I do want to encourage everyone to
participate here what you posted isn't really a collab, is it?
The idea of this thread is to collaborate with other forumites and work together to create art.
Your piece looks to be a complete redraw of DD's art and practically nothing of her original work remains.
Thoughts on this?

Quote:I knew a kid who got his start drawing skulls... that's all he drew all the time. Now it does...
Heh, anywho, did up that Shaman' fellow this time 'round. You'll find him up top there with the drawn dragon fellow. Purty groovy about the fantasy origins, think it's kind of common though. People, Still Life, or The Valiant Knight Fighting The Vicious Dragon X To Rescue Princess Y From The Evil Sorcerer Z, that's where drawing starts, ha ha!
He's gone on to draw other kinds of (mostly dead) stuff since but hey ya never know.
Oooh. It's not often I get to bust out a totally relevant Princess Bride quote in commenting about someones artwork but
in regards to Bernard the Beast (the shaman you drew above)... "I do no mean to pry, but you don' by any chance happen to hev... " -

Quote:Can always just visit Kelly's DA page here.........................By the way, the Masked Shrike is an awesome character; if you haven't seen her you should dig up some pics from the costume thread and whatnot.
Quote:Wait.. there's a costume thread!? O.o I really need to spend more time on the forums. I love designing costumes and a thread like that would be a great outlet for me!
Ok... it's getting a lot harder to pick cuz there's some really great entries and only two spots left, but after going over the thread for about 20 minutes I've finally decided on today's winner. Congratulations go out to VexXxa for her character Touche! Thanks everyone, see ya tomorrow for the final winner!!
Yeah there have been many costume threads but I think the ones people are referring to are the two stickies at the very top of the 606 forum page...
they are literally the largest threads in this section of the forums and active almost daily with peeps swapping costumes and ideas.
In case you missed it there is also now a new thread for collaboration (if you ever feel like teaming up with other forum artists) and also a new
tips and tricks thread (if you want to share things you've learned about digital art or learn from what others have shared).
P.S. Gratz VexXxa.

Okay well if we all got one bonus point then it's just a question of whether you meant for the next person in line after a tie to drop down one place in rank or not. If yes then the Total Point Standings are correct, if no then add one point to BW and all should be correct once you fix the three mistakes in the vote tally.
-
Quote:Thanks but it's Tatyrsause that won and should be congratulated.I think I got a hanging chad...
But congratulations to CR and thanks to Defiance Jones, Jophiel and Lousy Day for your votes! It helps me look forward to kicking back in April.
Quote:Ok, the votes have been secretly tallied (hopefully correctly as I'm again doing this very late at night again. I'm sure CR will quickly correct any mistakes I might make............
...see me after class.
Tatyrsause: 21
CR: 13 is wrong I have 12
Henri: 11 is wrong he has 10
DD: 7
Defiance: 7
Airhead: 6 is wrong he has 8
BW: 1
Also you posted Airhead is 6th place and BW is 7th when it should be Airhead in 5th and BW in 6th which would get them each one point less than they should have.
Finally 5 of the 9 Total Point Standings don't match my numbers but as they are all off by +1 I am guessing that is a bonus point given for someone guessing their work. Since you have not posted those numbers I have no way of verifying that. You may want to double check as even without having the numbers in front of me I suspect there is at least 1-2 mistakes potentially possible because you said the most someone (other than me) got in the guessing was half (Airhead with 4) so 5 doesn't add up and did no one get 2 points for multiple correct guesses?
Coincidentally (perhaps?) the two places where your score and mine match on (BW and Airhead) are the same places who are off by one place in the rankings so either we all got one bonus point and those two are off by one point because of this or 5 got a bonus point and two did not since it's the same two people I think it's probably not a coincidence.
If you post which of us got bonus points for the secret message side game and if we got one or two points added I could say for sure but until then I won't know exactly.

Yeah that was one of the the text errors I saw.
Another was the blue shirt wearing thug saying "let make a deal" instead of "let's make a deal" etc etc. Minor stuff like that.
-
Well actually City of Heroes has Minotaurs.
Nice, I got my start drawing fantasy as well, dragons and elves and the like.
