  1. And the question has come up a few times: It's a Yahoo league.

The Draft is Sat Aug 28 5:00pm CDT, and can't be moved much anymore - We've moved it around a few times now trying to align everyone's schedules, which is difficult when one of the players lives in Japan (I believe for his time, he'll be drafting at 7 or 8 a.m. Sunday morning).

Mostly standard roster sizes and positions, aside from maybe the inclusion of a defensive player.
  2. The league that I have ran with former and current City of Heroes players for the past three-four years has a few vacancies this year.

It's full of many names you may recognize, including: Malice, Knight Shayd, Knoxie, Strongstar, ProcessedMeatMan and a few others.

So, if you're inclined to manage a pretend team, send me a PM and I'll send you the information to join. We're taking 1 or 3 people to keep the league at an even number. If there is a huge response (DOUBTFUL), I'll push it to a 14-team league and take 5 more.
  3. Tenzhi -

I don't know how you can think that art is so bad. Maybe it's because I can barely draw a square and have thus always been amazed by any sort of artistic ability, but I would never think to scoff at that art. O'Malley both wrote and drew it, so I think it's damned impressive.

Of course, that image I showed originally is from Book 1, and he got progreesively better. Book 6 is full of great images.

You're willing to see it one day, and I suppose that's all anyone could ask for. Enjoy Expendables, let us know what you thought. And if you didn't enjoy it as much as you expected, maybe go see Scott Pilgrim earlier than you had planned.
  4. Very cool notion. I wish that class at UNT existed when I was in school.
  5. Put me down as a maybe, and look for me online. I'm going to have some windows of playtime opportunity on Saturday, but I don't know exactly when.

I think I've only done these TF's once, right before I took off. From what I remember, they were pretty cool.

I'm more interested in the first one so I can get some'a that sweet XPzz (I don't think I have a non-50 who is 46+), but if I'm around I'll do both or either.

So, if I can make it, for the first it's just 30-39, right? I could bring an Ice/Elec Blaster, an Earth/Sonic Controller or a Plant/Thermal Controller. And maybe another... My characters tend to get mired in the 30's, so I have a few options.
  6. Here is a trailer recreation using the graphic novel pages, both to show how faithful of an adaptation the movie appears to be, and to show that one guy who questioned the art what it actually looks like (if he can be bothered to click the link this time, that is).
  7. There is a scene in the book where he is playing a GameBoy in his dreams as well, I believe.

    Can't remember specifics, sorry.

Edit: Because if we're taking the critic angle, I think the Expendables fan has more to lose than those touting Scott Pilgrim.

EditX2: Also, your "negative" review on Destructoid said:

Through life, death, and a third option, we see the characters we've grown to love finally reach their potential. It's visually and emotionally beautiful. All of the main characters' stories wrap up together at the same time, under an umbrella of events that can only be described as a "videogame come to life." I've never seen a movie utilize videogames as source material as honestly, intelligently, and effectively as Scott Pilgrim does.
    And ended with:

It may be snarky, but this is still the first true videogame movie. I certainly hope it's not the last.

Score: 8.0 -- Great (8s are impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.)
  9. Thanks. So the only new story-content is the Clone arc and the Dr. Kahn TF?
  10. I had a long response, but the server maintenance ate it.

So, in short, I suggest finding it. The three seasons are on sale on DVD, if you have Netflix, they're on there as well (I got the first disc through Netflix, watched it, removed all of the subsequent discs and went that day and bout the entire series from Target).

At the very least, YouTube clips will give you bite-sized tastes.
  11. I've read through a few threads and I see that there have been many returning player questions, but I had something specific in mind that I hope can be addressed. I've read through many forum posts, patch notes and update features, but I'm still not quite certain of the answers I'm looking for.

I've been gone for a little under two years.

I was just looking to find out what was new and maybe not so obvious over that time.

I've found the clone story arc, and I've heard of the Dr. Khan TF (though I don't know any specifics, level ranges, etc if anyone can illuminate).

So, anything you can think of that is new over the past two years. Before I left, I was well-versed with Cimerora, the Imperious TF, the Auction House, Inventions and the Universities. It's anything after that which I need a crash course on.

I'm also not sure of how things will change once Going Rogue goes live. From the sounds of it, if I want to begin the game in Atlas Park, I must create a character now, correct? Praetoria becomes mandatory?

As much information as you want to give on Going Rogue is requested as well. I read that you sort of pick your powers as you go, not relegated to a specific chosen set, but that sounds impossible to me, so if anyone can explain that more thoroughly, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Read the other thread on the first page on Edgar Wright's quick comments about SP's motivation if you're really curious. He nails it.

I have a friend who is a movie critic for the Dallas Morning News. He knows nothing about the book or the premise this is based on. He saw it last night, and his quick email to me said, "Saw it last night. I must say, I was kind of blown away. It’s a fantastic movie: visually, creatively, etc…."

    I'm expecting big things.

The art isn't bad at all. Did you click the link? There's an example of it right there, and an example of the writing and humor. But you didn't bother clicking it, did you? It seems at this point you're just going to hate it because Michael Cera is in it rather than give the movie an opportunity to prove you wrong.

Potentially cheesy fun ruined by the bizarre cloning experiment that combined the DNA of Owen Wilson and Tobey Maguire into one despicable being.
You're referring to Kieran Caulkin here? He plays Wallace Wells. Or were you still talking about how much you hate Michael Cera despite the topic having moved on?

I didn't see Hot Fuzz since the trailers didn't make it seem appealing. Shaun of the Dead was okay, but action or a lack thereof isn't necessarily important to me. Entertainment is my goal.
Funny action movie. If you don't like comedic-value with your action, I suppose it's not for you.

    Quote:
I haven't seen anything particularly humorous in the trailers. However, if you're one of those people who thought Napolean Dynamite was hilarious then we're not on the same humour wavelength.
It was pretty funny when it released, seeing it that once, because it was different than any other humor at the time. That guy (I forget his name) has failed in every movie he's been in since, but I think, at the time (2000?) and my age (If 2000, then 17), it was enjoyable for that one viewing. It's comedy certainly dies after the one viewing.

But I don't know why we're talking about ND. This has nothing to do with that. ND was about subtle, awkward humor. This movie is the polar opposite in tone.

    Quote:
I didn't watch much of the show because what I did see of it left me completely uninterested in seeing more. I couldn't even have told you Michael Cera was in it.
Arrested Development is the best comedy on TV in the past decade. You should really look into it. It's Cera's first role, I believe. Certainly his first mainstream recognition. But the show is an ensemble cast with very little Cera in it. So again, don't let that hangup prevent you. And it is quite a hangup... Like he stole your puppy when you were but a youngster and you have vowed revenge in the name of Mr. Snuggles.
  14. Great quotes.

Get in on the Scott Pilgrim train, haters and "Expendable-ers"! You'll love it eventually, you may as well be there from the beginning!
  15. I see that they're trying to take some of the fun out of the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture forum, but what has been taken away here? You can no longer "lawl Dark Armor"?

I'LL DIE BEFORE THEY TAKE THAT FROM ME.
  16. Also, it shocks me to hear you say Infinity is one of the more highly populated servers. I think it's time to combine a few.

Really I'd like to see more people promoted transfer TO infinity than talk about leaving, we had a really good community in the past, but it's slowly dying down.

Going Rogue should pull a lot of old players back in, so any other people we can get to transfer here would be bonus.
Good point. Someone should be our ambassador and go to every server with an Uncle Sam avatar and tell Freedomites, Virtuephiles and Justicians that "We want you! ... To help us farm some phat lewtz on the Infinity server!"

But in my instance, and the two other repliers, the presumption was that we would be sending characters that we don't play to another server so they could die in their beds, old and alone. Meanwhile we could make new characters to rock out on Infinity with and celebrate their youth.

Alternatively, is anyone transferring characters that were misbegotten and created on other servers long ago to Infinity?

I don't think I have any that fit that mold. I have plenty of characters on other servers, but I think, at the most, they're only in their high teens and not necessarily unique enough that I would need to send them here. But while it's free, I should certainly investigate.
  18. Oh.

    Well ****!

At least this is totally new.

Free Character Transfers for a limited time only!

To take advantage of this new issue launch, character transfers within one set of servers (North American OR European) will be free from Tuesday, August 17 to Monday, August 23. This is the perfect opportunity for you to hop between servers depending on your mood or interests and meet other heroes and villains to enjoy brand new game features with!
Will anyone be leaving Infinity's sea-to-sea shining shores?

I think I'm going to ship off some 50's to go die elsewhere and stop hogging my space. I don't have any spots available on Infinity, and I've already bought about 4 extra spots so I would rather not buy anymore.

You ladies and effeminate 20-something boys can go watch the crappy hipster nerd-pandering movie where everyone talks like they're in Juno. I, on the other hand, will be enjoying watching the biggest collection of badasses in 30 years kill hordes of nameless lackeys, blow things up, exchange highly quotable one-liners with each other, and generally celebrate the existence of the Y chromosome.
I think you forget yourself, sir.

Here you are playing a super-hero video game and posting on a super-hero video games dedicated message board. You have a Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan avatar.

    Video games. Internet. Comics.

You are a nerd. Not an old, better-left-retired action star. On the positive side, you're probably a better actor, having never been in any movies in your entire life, compared to those in The Expendables.

As much as you may not want to admit it to yourself, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a cavalcade of everything awesome that you yourself, and everyone else here, enjoys daily.

And I have no idea why you people can't see that.
  21. Heeeeey. You guys. I know you quit for a while Crow, when did you come back? How long for?

    Eran, same question, different answer?
  22. I really like Rad Blast, but I've played a Corrupter to 50 with it, and sporadically on a Defender.

Does it feel a lot more powerful on a Blaster?

My playstyle is generally that of a blapper; I hop in and out of melee all of the time. I also play controllers a lot, so handling a situation appeals to me.

I think the Dual Pistol intrigues me the most at the moment, but what secondary would really mesh well with it? I think I'd prefer to skip Energy and Elec - How does Mental mesh with it?
  23. Ohh, that's a qualifier I should have included. I just can't get into Fire/. I think it's the lack of any default secondary effects. I need something with a little more oomph other than just more damage.
  24. I came back after a two-year break and I need something new.

Dual Pistols is the only new Blaster-set in Going Rogue, correct?

How has everyone found it so far? I mean in the very nerdy, DPS as it compares to other sets, PvP-viable sense, not the "it looks cool when I spin around and shoot bullets"-sense. I'm one of those nerdy players who creates characters with a theme just as long as that also aligns in a fairly viable min/max sense.

    I already have:
    Energy/Energy - 50
    Ice/Energy - 50
    Ice/Elec - 33-ish
    Psy/Mental - 22
    Sonic/Mental - 10
    Pistols/Device - 3

And maybe one or two I'm forgetting. For some reason, I'm just not feeling the Psy/Mental or the Ice/Elec now that I've returned. I played the Sonic/Mental for three levels yesterday, but I'm already becoming grated by Howl, which seems horribly narrow and I'm sure the rooting/animation will eventually get me killed.

Maybe I could get to enjoy the Pistols/Device, but I sort of hesitated on playing a BRAND NEW character, thinking that I should wait to start in Praetoria or whatever.

So it's possible I may not even start another character until next week when GR releases. But I still would like the advice going into it, as well as any suggestions on how to best enjoy the sets I have (aside from the 50's, of course).

    Thanks.
