What are everyone's levels and opinions nowadays?
At level 11 (ha), I am going to need a post-levelling respec. I still don't have my ranged toggle, so fighting Clockwork is painful.
I've just been soloing the story arcs so far. How is team-play?
I took Hasten to try to get my TO-slotted Power Siphon back more often, and it still doesn't seem right...
I'm /Shield. Still too early to say how it actually performs, so I was hoping to hear from some higher levelled players. -
I would definitely say Infinity was in the Top 5 back in the day.
And maybe you just haven't been on... GR has this place bumpin'. It's so nice to see.
Unfortunately, I haven't taken advantage of it, choosing instead to solo and go through the story arcs so I can get all of the story. Damn my nerdiness. -
Quote:Tony Stark didn't give him the Stark Armor for that reason. He has his powers then, in fact. It was just a sort of, "Why not?" scenario that Stark gave him that suit. That was after "The Other" story arc when his powers were a big buggy, so maybe there was some fear that he would lose control of them or they wouldn't be reliable, but as far as I remember, he never actually lost them at that point.Actually i got a few for you.
Peter Parker did loose his powers, that why Iron Man gave him the red and gold number...
The super soldier syrum ran out on Capt and a certin industrialist billionaarie made his a power suit for the intrium, he was also banned from america and used a energy shield and black suit for a while.
Remember Tigra?
She started as The Cat, who used a power suit, however eventually she met th business end of a Hydra Radiation gun and Dr. Rumulo saved her by turning her into Tigra the were woman!
Darkhawk?
After being split from his android later ego young Chris Prowell did what he could, he even wore the Turbo armor once and worled along side DH a few times. Hell he had his jewel riped out of his chest and was dieing but still fought on!
I knew Darkhawk had lost his at some point. There was a miniseries called The Loners with him and a few other former heroes, including Turbo and Penance (the mutant, not Speedball).
Quote:Also, another thing with Peter, even with his powers he often takes quite a lot of beatings. The only reason he can bounce back is because of his healing factor. Without his powers, after one of those beatings he'd be in hospital for months.
I think Peter would probably look for a tech way of becoming a crime fighter, I expect he'd also learn a few things with other heroes he knows, like Daredevil.
Am I going to have to re-read Spider-Man: Reign? I thought someone would back be up on my faulty memory of whether he had lost his powers in that book. -

Same thing you are, right?
Reactivated the account for Going Rogue, but have barely gotten to play. -
O'Malley said this on his website:
"In theaters today in the U.S. and Canada. Please go see it. For money. I know you’ve got Sylvester Stallone on speed dial but he can wait. Scott Pilgrim needs you."
Doesn't that just make you feel like you should see it again? -
Also just the basics of the Mastermind class. How many heroes really have minions or underlings?
I can really only make the comparison to team leaders, like Xavier or something. -
Quote:I believe he may have in an alternate reality story, Spider-Man: Reign.I'm asking if he would continue to fight crime, and what he would use to do that, without his powers.
Using his webshooters without his powers seems doable, as long as he doesn't use them on anyone with super-strength. (Doesn't stop Batman from using his grapple against super-strong opponents however.....then again, Batman has trained himself to be as strong as humanly possible, while I don't even know if Spider-Man even exercised before he gained his powers.)
At least I think that was the basis for it. He may have just been really old.
What about Barbara Gordon becoming Oracle?
Ummm. Dr. Strange is currently not the Sorcerer Supreme (that's now Brother Voodoo, I think), but he continues to fight with much tamer spells and abilities.
I have an example on the tip of my brain, but I can't quite get it out. They eventually recovered their lost powers... Bah. I'll get back to you. -
The most recent relaunch of the New Warriors involved heroes that were all Tech-powered.
Most of them were former mutants (Jubilee, Chamber) who lost their powers on M-Day or whatever.
The series was pretty bad and cancelled after maybe 20 issues. I don't recommend it (some great looking covers though).
I think you're asking mostly about supplemental abilities? Or just any who turn to tech to fill-in for their limitations?
I can't tell if this applies, but one of the original Slingers (Hornet) had cerebral palsy, and his suit allowed him to bypass any physical limitations. I always thought that was a really cool story.
Again, I can't tell how broad your question is. If it's as broad as I think, wouldn't Peter Parker's mechanical web-shooters supplementing his "proportionate strength and speed of a spider" be an apt example? -
Quote:They're quick reads. Maybe an hour per book.On a lighter note, I broke down and bought the first two volumes of the comic today.
Look forward to reading them, when I get the chance (which is to say, I have the chance NOW, but I don't know if I want to devour them that quickly).
Let me know what ya think. -
Quote:Oh, awesome. The advantages to the 'gray' alignments is that you have the flexibility to play with anyone on their mission either side. You can do a TF and a SF in rapid succession if you like. This flexibility is quite a convenience. I will be doing that with my main alts.
However you do sacrifice the ability to collect hero/villain merits which can buy some very nice shinies. Thus I will be keeping some alts for the purpose of pursuing those.
Good thing I've got so damned many alts.
I have a character, Venus DeVine, who is a plant/thermal controller. She's, ya know, divine, a goddess, and above morality, so I think I can play that up to make her available for as many teams as possible by keeping her rogue. -
So you're speaking for a hypothetical group of people, the people who I have turned off from the movie, to which you don't belong, but you could belong to... But you don't?
Look, FURIO, see the movie if you want. It's good.
Anyone bothering to follow along through this nonsense, the same applies to you. I think you'll like it. I'm biased. If you like comics and video games, there are elements in here specifically for you! Some people said anime, but I'm not the biggest anime fan, so if there were some elements drawing from that source, I missed them.
Michael Cera plays predominately outside of his comfort zone. I can't think of any other situations when he asked been asked to play as an action star (unless you count his Star Wars kid portrayal in Arrested Development), and he does it convincingly.
The movie is not without its faults, as I commented on around page 3, but they don't detract too heavily from the movie, which exudes a style and presentation unlinke any I have ever seen before. -
Is there any benefit/detriment to just staying technically a "rogue" caught halfway between hero and villain?

Quote:Well, much like Amy Amp said in this thread (look, people agree with me too!) you "*could*" have shown that you were going to give the movie a chance of its own merits rather than hearsay, but you've chosen to do otherwise, and are now trying to stamp out positive criticisms for the movie in the one place where they should not be just expected but encouraged: The thread titled "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World."And that's generally been the tone of your responses to anyone expressing a negative opinion, and in your zeal to defend your precious from all threats real and perceived, you're alienating the very people you're trying to reach. You're not gonna get the people who hate Cera. Give up on them. It's the people like me that you *could* have gotten. But much like Dalantia said in the other thread, you've instead pushed people away.
So see it if you want. My opinion and presentation of such should have no bearing on how you make your entertainment choices. I liked the books. I liked the video game. I liked the soundtrack. I liked the movie. I'm hardly an unbiased party.
But as long as it's okay with you, Furio, sir, I think I'll continue to discuss my opinions on a movie and property I enjoy with others of similar tastes, interests and opinions.
So, other people:
I'm taking a friend who has never read the book but played the PSN game with me from start-to-finish over two days to see the movie on Saturday. I'm considering whether I should try to re-read the six books between now and then, or wait until afterwards. They're still fresh enough in my mind that a re-reading isn't necessary, as I read them all again in June when Vol. 6 released in July, but I'm wondering if I'll pick up on anything else. I was already reminded how disappointed I was by the above article that the madness-inducing department store scene wasn't present. -
I knew I was missing one.
Robots were originally listed as a "maybe" just because I couldn't think of a heroic comics-counterpart. Maybe Fixer? -
So, Going Rogue released early yesterday (and no one told me, THANKS) and the game has seen a huge spike in server-load.
What have you guys been doing since? What is the first character you created? First character you sent to the opposing faction? What are your big plans of accomplishment for this weekend? -
I just kind of realized this...
There is nothing like the Mastermind class in the City of Heroes game proper. Every other class has its similar heroic counterpart, but not the Mastermind.
Now that this is the first time that the MM will be going through typical Hero missions, task forces, etc with Going Rogue, what are the problems that have already arisen and been addressed? Any at all?
Also, thematically, how does a heroic Mastermind work?
Demons? No way. Well, maybe. Some sort of Dr. Strange-type summoner.
Robots? Maybe.
Thugs? No way. Unless you're organizing a work-program for youths seeking redemption.
Mercernaries? Sure. Agent of SHIELD and such.
Ninjas? Hmmm. I guess not. Daredevil isn't handling it too well as the leader of the HAND right now.
Thoughts? -
Quote:Yep, this is what I intended. Sorry if it came across the other way.Nobody said The Expendables is for idiots. What was said is the argument that The Expendables is better simply because it made more money is idiotic. All it means is that it was more popular.
Also, I was going take umbrage with the "romcom" tag, but you're trying to help here, Kris Kringle, and I've done enough disagreeing on the topic. -
Quote:Great article. The Awl's website has been irregular today. The article in question is a comparison of the comic and the film, rating how well the latter adapted the former.
It linked to an article that was written just after Vol. 3 came out, which complained about the tone of that book when compared to the others. I wish I could followup on what the author thinks about that book in the entirety of the series; I think it's a bit much to expect the irreverence of the first two to carry through all six volumes. -
Quote:No. Saying "see it because of x, y or z" to someone who is withholding seeing an entire movie because they don't like an actor in it is hoping they can develop some common sense of their own. I'm hoping I can appeal to something else that they may want to see the film for.Very mature. I'm simply saying that saying "see it because of x, y or z" to someone who dislikes the lead in the movie is pushing the bounds of common sense. They may see it eventually, but I can't see expecting them to pay for it. And, it may work on someone that actually knows you...but a random name from a message board carries a lot less weight.
It should be noted, I'm not one of those people. I have no problem with Cera, and was simply pointing out things I've heard from people who do dislike the roles he's played.
But, continuing to say, in essence, "well you should see it any way!" every time someone gives a reason they're not interested, imo, is actually working counter to your goal.
But, this is the Scott Pilgrim thread. No one has came in here pissing all over the movie - That was in the "Vs. Expendables" thread, so it's misplaced here.
People can see it if they want, or not if they don't. I'm stating reasons why anyone who has similar interests as I (and I assume you all do since we're all gathered on a very niche message board) would do well to give themselves a chance at seeing the film.
And I'm doing it in the SCOTT PILGRIM thread, where everyone frequently reading has either already seen it, is deciding whether they should see it, or is trolling. Which category are you, again? -
Quote:The second link won't seem to load.I sense the propagation of a meme:
Scott Pilgrim vs. the Critics
Scott Pilgrim vs. Itself
Scott Pilgrim vs. the Unfortunate Tendency to Review the Audience
The third is great. -
Quote:Right on, feel free to ignore me. I'm not going to censor myself (well, I suppose I just did, because obscenities were the first words to enter my mind) about anything that pops into my head on an open forum, especially not on account of you.Really. It's getting annoying at this point. We get it. You like the movie. People will see it if they want to, and won't if they, for whatever reason, don't want to... but your constant proseltyzing is wearing very thin.
This is the thread about Scott Pilgrim. If you don't want to hear about Scott Pilgrim, maybe you should clicked on some other thread?
Or go fu.... Steady... -
I feel like this is one of the signs of the impending Idiocracy.
-
So don't go see Scott Pilgrim for Cera's acting. See it for Kieran Culkin's hilarity or the absolutely magnificent videogame and comic inspired style and narrative.
