Oh, and I'll either be bringing an Earth/Sonic Controller, Crab Spider, or... Something else. Likely one of those though! ... Unless the WST is Citadel starting tomorrow... It isn't, is it?
-
Bob! Thank you, Bob!
(Picture Tom Cruise circa Jerry Maguire or Jim Brewer circa Half Baked, depending on if you're mean to me or not.) -
Alright, I'll be the first to go down with this ship. If I'm the only one to respond, that could be funny too.
The Digital You
Who are you most well known as in-game? I mean character, but maybe you have an inappropriate nickname, and that could be fun too.
I am Moses. That's is my nickname in-game and real life. Since my most recent return, I've primarily been repeating trials ad nauseum as Mercury Avenger. Traditionally, I am better known as my longer standing characters, Magician or Molecule Misfit. There was a time where I was a force to be feared in PvP zones as Project HERO.
What have you been doing in-game lately?
Repeating trials ad nauseum. I also like running TFs alot. Good on the devs; I've never been one to play 50s (I need that positive reinforcement of the ding and sparky, level-up splurge), but now I can't tear myself away from them.
I've also been spending a lot of time at the markets. I left a lot of my characters bare-***** and wanting for enhancements.
What do you enjoy the most in-game?
TFs. Big, meaty 8-man teams that kind find their groove and just roll. Especially those that I don't form myself. I used to lead a lot of teams, and these days I prefer being a lazy passenger.
I gravitate to blasting, followed second by controlling. Tanking is one of the more unnatural fits for me, though I'll do it (I don't think I have the appropriate "bossy Tank" tone). I have never once found a Defender I can play.
Praetoria, Mercy Island, or Atlas: Which is your preferred landing destination?
I haven't made a new character in a while. I went through Praetoria a couple of times when it was new, and I think I'm over it. I will probably begin a new character in Atlas for Freedom so I can partake in the new Sewer trial thingy. Hopefully it's as fun as a "Go in at level 2, come out at level 12" trek from under Atlas to under Skyway-somewhere of the olden days.
How long have you been playing City of Heroes?
I played for a solid, almost consistent amount of time from launch until 2009-ish, then I started taking breaks here and there. The most recent break, which I returned from about 2 1/2 weeks ago was ~300 days, according to the character selection screen.
Why did you originally choose to play and/or stay on Infinity?
The first "real" character I made was Magician, and Infinity just fit a character with that name. I didn't find a real niche or group of people to consistently team with until maybe six months to a year after I bought the game, so I'm not sure what kept me here throughout that time. I certainly wasn't trying to stay to Infinity; I created characters on every server. However, it was Infinity that kept attracting me, and once you meet a godd group of people, it's pretty much done. Now I'm just here because everybody knows my name (though maybe not so much these days).
What are your plans for "Freedom"?
I originally planned to go the free to play route when I first heard about it (prior to renewing), but reading more, the free limitations seem overly draconian and I think they would annoy me more than anything. So if I'm actively playing the game, I'll probably be paying.
I know I'm going to make a Regeneration brute, I just don't know what primary. I want to try the Beam Rifle, as well as Time Manipulation power sets, but I don't know much more about them. I'll at least give a try to the Dark Blaster powerset. I haven't been paying as much attention as I should. I have one character with a complete set of T3's, so I'll probably continue running that character to the point of T4's, while simultaneously getting another character more Incarnate outfitted.
The Real You
What is best in life?
Knowing where you'll be when the sun goes down.
What is your favorite movie?
I don't really know anymore. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was my stock answer for a long time, followed closely by Ferrid Bueller's Day Off, High Fidelity, Office Space, and some other mid-90's/00's offerings, but c'mon, I've gotta have something newer... The best movie I've seen recently is Thor... But I haven't seen a whole lot recently.
What is your favorite book?
Something by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Slapstick certainly had the largest impact on me, but I don't know if I would call it my favorite. Perhaps Breakfast of Champions.
Outside of CoH, what are your favorite games?
My Top Five of All-Time:
1) EarthBound (SNES)
2) Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
3) Chrono Trigger (SNES)
4) BioShock (PS3/X-Box 360)
5) Fallout 3 (PS3)
Sports: Yes? No? Favorites? Teams? Players? Do you play any yourself?
(I don't know if you know this, but the Dallas Mavericks just won the NBA Championship, and with a lockout currently going on, they could be considered the champs for quite a long while. Expect to be reminded of that almost constantly.)

I also like the Cowboys, but there are too many players on the teams with egos and personalities that make it hard to root for them. The Mavericks are my one true love, so the Cowboys are a distant #2.
I play basketball in my spare time. I'm okay; I was better before I got older/out-of-shaper.
Care to share the vision that is you? Pictures from 6-7 years ago of me can be found here un/fortunately (depending on perspective).
I'll provide another picture whenever I get home from work (patience, ladies).
ETA: Added. Taken from my phone while driving home in a deth-defying display of bravado/stupidity. I hope you can appreciate it.
What keeps you from playing City of Heroes for gross stretches of time? (Kids, jobs, spouses, other hobbies, fill in the ______.)
My wife hates the game. It did provide a constant distraction while I was trying to graduate college, so I guess that's a pretty good reason to hate it, but all video games did, and still do that. She requires a lot of love, attention, and entertainment, which is the majority reason why I'm not in-game or on the PS3 for every waking hour.
I have a pretty decent job. I'm doing what I like and went to school for, and any job in this climate is really something to be celebrated. I got laid off from my prior job, one where I was also doing what I liked, and so it's a miracle I was able to recover from that to this, in relatively short order for that matter.
I have a wonderful tiny puppy Pomeranian named Sadie. Some SG-mates tease me about her, but they don't know what love is.
And finally, have you blurred the lines between my two neat categories? Do you play in-game with anyone you know "IRL," to use one of those dreaded stereotypical abbreviations that haunt the gamers' reputation?
One of the first players I teamed with in-game was a controller named Crowd Pleaser. This was six years ago, or so. He lived in the area and was looking for a job, so I got him one with the company I worked for at the time. So we met and became friends through that. He would go on to later return the favor a few years later. We don't currently work together, but we keep in contact. He has had better luck ignoring the siren call of City of Heroes than I have, maintaining his exodus for the majority of the past three years or so. However, he does intend to poke his head in for "Freedom."
Another one of the first players I teamed with in-game a controller named ProcessdMeatMan (no "e"), who many of you may know for his own forum presence. (I liked controller backup as a squishy blaster.) He lived a few states away, but whenever we had the fortuitous chance to meet-up, we did so while I was in his state of residence for a wedding. We had a good time and keep in contact still. He also doesn't currently play, and has similar ambitions of returning once "Freedom" is active.
Reversing the trend, I dragged a real life friend into the game. He has only played off and on for maybe a total of one year of in-game time. He went by the Global @ChimpImp (or @Chimptheimp, I forget), and the only character I remember him playing is a Forcefield Defender named 1.8t (a reference to his car, of all things), and a character named Daibosatsu Toge (or something equally and incoherently Japanese), a Claws/Electric Brute he made solely because I told him I planned to play that combo. He too has intentions of poking his head back in when the game goes free. I tried to drag him in with me for this month, but it's a hard sell when the options are $15 now or FREE in a month or two.
So there. That's how it's done. Give me your words, for I will nurture and care for them. (Just not right now, because all of a sudden I have some work to do.) -
Hello, I'm Moses. Some of you may remember me, if your subscription time is particularly long-lived, that is. If you hang around the forums, you probably know me, at least... 'Eyyyyyyyy. If you don't know me, well, hi! I promise I have no ulterior motives for asking the following questions. I'm not going to decipher your bank pin # by knowing that you like cats.
ANYWAY, it's been a while. I don't mean to be accusatory, but you guys have let this place fall into absolute shambles. If this was a cartoon, the backdoor would be flapping in the wind and vagrant cats would be coming and going as they please.
I know I'm not the only one who has hours to fill at work, so hopefully some of you can find some amusement from answering these questions. Or maybe you can laugh as tumbleweeds go by after I ask them. I'm good for whatever; I'm a surprisingly creepy cymbal monkey banging for your amusement.

Yay drafts! Good to see you guys are keeping the dream alive. I'd participate, but... Swords? I can only name ones from games. If I could do all game swords, I'd probably do that.

The prestigious Infinity Fantasy Football League has one vacancy this year. The League has been together for... I want to say four or five years now, and it's a good group of former and current (mostly former) City of Heroes players, a majority of which frequented the Infinity server, but the last batch of recruits came from this section of the forums, I believe.
Anyone like to join? If so, PM me for the details. -
I'm in as a maybe! 9 p.m. (Central, my time) is a little late to begin the string of Defeat Alls, but I think I can swing it.
-
Not gonna be able to make it today, guys. Have fun.

Quote:Holy crap, I called that.I don't know if it's a violation. Seeing as to how the forums are dead and this may provide some fun and alleviation of boardom in the crushing anxiety of exiestence, this probably is against the rules.
Quick notes (i'll try to keep it brief so as not to lose my precious time only for this thread to be deleted or moved to the forum games section to die):
Cowboys are overrated, but maybe they'll stay woken up and play like they can/did in the Houston game.
Pittsburgh is scary good. Who needs a QB anyway?
Dammit Mike Vick. Dammit Andy Reid; if only you could have been stubborn and stuck to Kolb to ensure Philly would be an afterthought in the NFC East.
Eli Manning is regressing.
My Fantasy football teams are AWFUL.
Packers and Steelers in the Super Bowl. You heard it here first!
Sorry, digging through some of my old posts... Carry on. -
I can try to get the arc on my level 45 controller.
However, again, I won't know what's up with my schedule until closer to go-time. I'll get the arc ready regardless, and let you know, perhaps by tomorrow. -
Great tips.
Is there information around anywhere about the other Lore pets? I unlocked that tonight and I'm trying to decide which I should go for. I'm a squishy blaster, so anything with buffs gets favored! -
Good points; I thinking I'm sticking with Spiritual, for this character at least.
Now... How do I get to that 4th tier? I have Spiritual Total Core Revamp unlocked and equipped... I'm not seeing what the next step is to get to Spiritual Core Paragon. I know I need to "purchase" other abilities, but I'm not sure where I start to do that. -
That was... Thorough. Thanks.
Quote:It would be a damage bonus on ALL powers (that damage), including Pets!Would you be better off getting a recharge bonus on most of your powers, or a damage bonus on your pets?
I also consider at times that my endurance-usage isn't the greatest, so maybe Cardiac would be the way to go, but as is, I have Power Sink back up slightly more often w/ Spiritual, so it could be moot.
It's probably more trouble than it's worth to switch anytime soon, especially for such little value and while I have so many other things to work towards with my own limited playtime. -
Quote:If what I've read is correct, they still would, but going into a iTrial without an Alpha already unlocked means that you'll be worthless.Do the iTrials themselves not award iXP to unlock your Alpha anymore?
After reading and playing a lot more, I think I have a better grasp on how the system works. So thanks everyone, especially Dispari, for putting the information out there.
I did have a question though:
The only character I have with the Alpha unlocked is my Ice/Elec Blaster, who has a Spiritual T3. I haven't done anything else with him (besides gain iXP), but I'm working on it. When revisiting the Alpha, I'm reading that the one I chose, Spiritual, seems to be forgotten when applied to the other Incarnate powers (the +Rech of Spiritual won't affect the Lore pets, or Judgement powers, as well as some non-Incarnate powers for that matter).
This has me thinking that maybe I need to pick a different one, such as Musculature for the +Dmg. I didn't initially take the +DMG one because I was thinking, "Well, with ED it won't be much to my benefit, and with Build Up and Aim active, I believe I'm at the damage cap already, let alone any Invention set +Dmg bonuses I may have..."
But then I read that some of the Alpha bonuses ignore ED.
So now I'm thinking I need to start all the way over for Musculature, predominately because Spiritual's buff is ignored by many powers in the game, while the other Alpha affects don't have that Penalty.
Could you give me your opinion on this situation? Or maybe verify that I'm at least understanding this situation in the first place? Thanks. -
Thanks for the answers, guys. Robotech Master, I had a few followups:
Quote:Will two T3s of any type unlock a T4? I wouldn't think so, but that kind of seems to be what you're saying.(For that matter, you could also choose to build an Alpha of an entirely different type and trade them out in different situations. I have a T4 Spiritual on my Fire/Fire Tanker, but I've also got a T3 Cardiac in her inventory that I can use if I ever want to sacrifice that additional recharge rate in order to get more damage resistance.)

Quote:Per the bolded - Does the week start Tuesday, and you must wait 7 days between your time or earning, or can you only earn one within the 7-day period?Notices of the Well are handed out for a) having the Alpha slot unlocked and b) running the Weekly Strike Target.
You can only get one per strike target week per character (Week starts Tuesday, and in the case of say Positron, which has two TFs, you can run both but will only get 1 notice). Running it additional times gives progress towards badges.
One notice is needed to craft a Rare, and two rares and a Favor are needed to craft a Very Rare alpha slot - and a Favor is 32 shards + 2 Notices.
Once you're done with the Alpha slot, you can break down Notices for threads.
To use a current example, say I did the LGTF yesterday (Monday). Today (Tuesday), the WST changes to Sister Psyche. Do I have to wait until Monday to do it on that character (and is it all the way down to the hour?), or can I do it right away with that character?
Quote:It's up to you how to spend your merits, but here's my advice.
I think it's worth spending all your merits initially on getting two T3s for the level shift. Convert merits to threads, threads to salvage, and you'll get there pretty quickly.
Once you've got a level shift or two, the trials are IMO more fun and you will be more effective in them. That makes it easier to earn more Merits if you want to spend them on the fun cosmetic stuff later.
As for where to discuss Incarnate powers, the Archetypes & Powers general discussion is probably best.
Or did you mean to immediately unlock a T3 on, say, Judgement right away?
Finally, when equipping my Alpha, I just took the one that I could get the level shift quicker on, so a T3 (the one on the left, whatever that is, in Spiritual I think). Is it worthwhile to get the T4 right away? Or am I fine with just the T3?
Thanks... Just getting the hang of all of this. -
Mighty bump - Has there been an update to this, by chance? Specifically meaning, can Crabs get Hero epics now?
Ya see, I made this post a year ago, then I ended up taking a break. Well, I came back,a nd one of the first things I did was to take my Crab Rogue. He's currently a Rogue on his way to being a hero, but I was going through some of my old subscribed threads seeing which could be deleted and came across this one.
So, my Crab is already a Rogue. That's my limitation - If I can't just pick a hero epic naturally at level 41, I've now stuck myself for five levels as a Rogue, haven't I?
What is my best course of action now? It says above that I can take the Arbiter Patron mission as a Rogue (which is level 40, right?), is that correct and still up-to-date?
Thank you. -
I can make it. I just need to finish up mowing and shower, and I'll be there.
And I can either bring a scrapper, blaster, blaster, or fire/rad controller. I think... I think that's right. -
I won't really know what my schedule will be like until tomorrow morning, but if I can make it, I will.
I'm still trying to figure out who I can bring. I have a level 43 Controller, so if I get her two levels in a day (DOUBTFUL), then I'll bring her. Otherwise, I'm still trying to reacquaint myself with my characters... I left a lot completely devoid of enhancements for some reason. I found about three that were fully slotted, but then the server went down this morning. So I'll be bringing one of them (again, if I can make it), most likely an Energy/Energy Blaster named Molecule Misfit. I also need to do a few of the Alpha Slot Incarnate-whatevers to make sure I can participate in that aspect... -
I don't think I've done this one. What do I need to know? Is it Co-Op? Do you have to have Incarnate stuff? (I haven't paid any attention to that yet).
-
Ugh, sorry, this is a very simple question that I'm just not quite grasping.
I've been away from the game for the past year. This stuff was just introduced before I left, and I'm having trouble diving into it; I'm just not grasping exactly what I need to do.
So, to begin with the Incarnate content, first of all, I must do the Mender Ramiel arc in Ouroboros. Is that correct? I have to do that on every 50, immediately, to begin gaining Incarnate experience and/or receive the TF-required rewards?
I may have begun this on a charater or two, it's sounding vaguely familiar, but if anyone could kind of give me the first couple of steps into the entire process, that would really help me. Thanks.
ETA: This thread may be more my speed, but I'd still appreciate any guidance or other suggested threads to read. Thanks. -
I'm going to tag along here with my own question:
I think I've done everything right, but I'm getting this error:
HTTP status 404: The requested URL does not exist on the server.
It comes after I've gotten about 65% of the server installed.
Any ideas? -
They're burning, which is why they must be in caps.
I haven't played in... 300 days, according to my character select screen.
I eventually just let my account lapse because I wasn't really interested in Incarnate stuff.
I came back expecting a lot of new things (I'd been reading about CoH Freedom, a recent batch of Power Set Proliferation, and a new starting experience, but it would appear that none of that is releasing until Issue 21, and I may have jumped the gun in rejoining), but so far nothing is drastically different.
So, under the non-Incarnate parameters, what should I be experiencing that has been added in the past 300 days? Barring that, what has been added in the past 300 days for a very mildly-interested Incarnate user (I think my main got like one Incarnate enhancement or whatever before I quit; I can't really remember). -
Well, I sent some random tell earlier to @Ironblade1, so if that's one of your altiverse doppelgangers, make sure he isn't too alarmed.
I'm heading out for a night with the wife. She doesn't know I renewed CoH yet. That won't be a fun conversation. :scared:
Anyway, if you're around late (Midnight Central, give or take), I may be back on. Send me a tell (it's @ChrisMoses) so I'll have whichever global you're on. I'm looking forward to seeing a familiar face.
