Quote:Quoted for fricking truth. My Ice/Fire tank feels like an incredible aggro-making AoE damage surviving machine. And she doesn't really have Set IOs.For me, since I only play heroside, it's an Ice Armor/Fiery Melee Tanker. I love being able to solo +4/x8/+boss missions. Council and CoT are easy. Rikti are also easy but the Chief Soldiers can do some damage if two or more hit consecutively. Arachnos and Carnies are tougher requiring judicious inspiration use, but even they eventually go down.
I dunno WHAT people are thinking when they say Ice Armor can't take a hit. It can, you just have to actually DO something to defend yourself! -
Actually, I've had an easier time finding a team since i16. FAR easier than for the last several months. I can even whip up teams on REDSIDE, that's how good it is these days!
But yes, I tend to try out other MMO's as they appear.. and my COH account hasn't lapsed a bit. I know how much fun this game is. It is fun. Thus, it is a permanent fixture on my compy. -
A glitchy hole gave me the ONLY time in 18 months of play that I've taken more than two digits of falling damage. (I'm kind of paranoid about heights, you might say)
For a while, the last mission of the Redside Midnighter arc was notorious for spawning without the floor. I entered the mission, fell for about a second, and then teleported about three miles downward and took over a hundred thousand falling damage. @_@
Used pocket D port, followed by DROP THIS MISSION OH MY GAWD! -
Very well put, Sapphire! I totally feel the same way. Our devs are just.. well, better than any other devs out there. Period. No competition at all.
I'd say more, but it's all been said right here already. -
Ugh, now you guys are making me cry.
And I'm getting flashbacky memories of the olden days. All the other kids were like "OMG 3D!" And I was all "Hello? Remember to get games that are fun to PLAY, okay? Fun of playing should be a really important thing! Also this three dee thing looks like crap anyway i dont get why you guys are so excited ohgoddontkillme." -

one thing going through those tends to miss-
Issue 11.5: Real Numbers. (I think it was 11.5? Yeah.)
- When right-clicking a power or buff and going to Info, you can now look at the power's Detailed Info tab to find out all the stats of what the power does. There is also a Show Detailed Info button on the powerset selection, level-up, and enhancement screens that lets you browse the information about your powers.
- On your powers tab, at the top left is an option called "Combat Attributes". This is a constant monitor of your total stats and buffs and whatnot. You can right-click any value in this window and place it in a smaller tracking display that you can watch while in combat.
Fricking great update, but doesn't seem to be in ParagonWiki anywhere.
EDIT: I think that 11.5 was also when we got chat-linking, right? By dragging a power or item to your chatbar, you can link it for others to see the Detailed Info about. You can also link one just by typing the power with brackets around it in chat- like [Chain Induction] or [Flame Mastery.Fire Shield] -
Quote:*froths*Because it's not half the time. Getting to 25-30 on some characters is maybe 40-50 hours for me. I'll spend another 100 hours on the run to 50 and then play many more hours if I enjoy the character. So for me it is at worst 1/3 the time.
With brutes and scrappers I hate the pre-stamina, pre-fully slotted shields because they are weak but once I get them into the 20s I have a rolling good time and the horrible past is quickly forgotten unless I make another one..
With warshades once I get them into the mid 30s I have a rolling good time and the horrible past is quickly forgotten unless I make another one.
Controllers and dominators once I get them their pets I am having fun. -
No, masochism is a lot more fun than that!
Quote:Good question why do people play /stone brutes or stone/ tanks?
I really like the idea of how the Stone Armor set plays, if you removed Granite and the unnecessary self-slows from it.
-
Yeah, Left 4 Dead on Expert mode is pretty tough.. but it certainly isn't nintendo-hard.
Now, if they removed the Respawn closets? So you could only respawn after the end of each stage? That would probably kick it up into more nintendo-esque territory. Those closets are so cheap.
Also it pisses me off when people want to kill each other at the end of a level in order to heal. That is so inhumane! It makes me so happy when a horde comes and devours the one last standing guy after he plugs the whole team.
EDIT: Forgot the other thing I was gonna mention. Pretty much the whole Mega Man series.
I mean, yes, it's possible to beat them, and some people are naturally REALLY GOOD at MegaMan games, but to be Nintendo Hard, I didn't think it was required to be unbeatable, per se. -
This brings up something I often think about..
Why would someone play a character that sucks at low levels? Is its high-level play seriously THAT MUCH more fun than a character isn't a painful exercise in self-hatred to get up there? Why would anyone want to subject themselves to a build that you hate for half the time that you play it? -
There are a lot of people in the indie gaming / modding scenes who still believe in Nintendo Hard. I can't think of any specific examples right now though. But they are certainly there!
-
The darky mcdarkdark build is known for being pretty powerful. Lots of stories around how a Dark Miasma / Dark Blast / Dark Mastery Defender completely blows away the enemies, is ridiculously hard to kill, and can easily pull a whole team from teamwipe straight to dominating.
Fire/Kinetics and Illusion/Radiation Controllers are pretty high up there, too, but they never really seem as impressive to me as a DarkDarkDark. -

I don't think I'd kill off any of my CoH characters. If I like their playstyle, I start to roleplay them, and vice versa. RP and gaming sort of twine together on each of my favored characters, and I just wouldn't erase them. I have no problem deleting characters, but I am simply not attached to the ones I delete.
Other roleplaying on the other hand.. I've dabbled in forumy-RP off and on for years and years. And I have killed one of my characters.
It was.. odd. She was not evil, but certainly not good. Lived a pretty hellish life- torn from her home dimension, no way back (Amazing how many characters are away from their own dimension, but the gravity of it never really sinks in), poor impulse control, horrible impulses... The more protagonistic characters viewed her with a little pity, a little dislike, a little companionship.
Just living was nasty enough for her, but then being dragged through inexplicable trials and general horrendous crap? (some call that adventuring, I guess) She kind of snapped. Stabbed a friendly destined-for-savior-things hero, set upon by extremely protective guardian, died. Was sort of the first taste of the protagonists' "We are the good guys, right? Right?!" quandary in that story. -
Quote:This whole thing... fricking hilarious! Whole thing! *dies of laughter*My main character has in her bio that she's partially resistant to psychic contact. 40.5% Psi Resistance as of her current build in fact, provided that Static Shield is running. So when people try to read her mind, I only give them three out of every five words. And when people send her telepathic communications, I only have her recieve the same. I used to select the specific words based on what would be most fun for me, but now I keep a few dice by the computer.
I run her resistance to other effects based on the magnitude of her mez protection. "You are now my loyal slave, and you love me, and want to get sweaty and nekkid with me down by the monkey cages" gets hit with "Is that meant to be a Confusion or Disorient effect? Also, what's the magnitude, and what's the recharge rate on the specific power, so I know if you could stack it sufficiently to overwhelm my mag 10.38 protection to either? And does it cause aggro, or is it like Confuse without a damage portion? Because if I'm aggroed, I'd like the duration you'll need to apply it for my character to respond with violence."
This usually gets a "Wut?", followed by "BLAM! I'm using Power Sink, slotted to siphon 80.3% of your endurance! What's your drain resistance?!" from me.
If Static Shield isn't running when they send those tells, I eat a Break Free and turn it on.
If they dare to use the word "Pheremones", I'll actually hit Power Surge so my Toxic Resistance will shoot from 15% to 90%. The lovely Lunaticia has pretty bad allergies, after all, and even a minor exposure to airborn toxins and irritants can make her reflexively activate her only relevant defensive technique.
By the time the three minutes are up (during which time the character's apparent sex appeal to draw these kinds of whackos is diminished greatly by her transformation from a pretty lady into a semi-humanoid jumble of coherent energy) they've usually wandered off to auto-seduce somebody else. Or if they've figured out how this is going to work and are hanging around to exploit my post-crash weakness, I can just make a run for the base portal.
I don't like to PvP, nor do I really like to Text Fight usually, but I do like to Text Fight as though I were PvPing. People either think it's awesome, and have fun figuring out how our actual character abilities would interact in a more flexible roleplaying situation than is presented by actual combat, or else they storm off in a huff.
Anyway, these days outright free-will stealing nonsense is pretty rare. But it does happen, and it's unpleasant enough to roleplay through that a little overreaction can be understood.
Also, not unlike the sort of response I'd use- "I can still set you on fire while I'm mezzed, you know."

It makes me sad that bios are full of stuff for the psychically inclined, but don't give a single word about what someone might discover if they were, say, superhumanly good at analyzing news media. Always leave clues in your bio about what sorts of things anybody could already know about your character!
I'm a bit off topic, but still. Miffed! Psychics get all the attention! -
The only reason nobody is talking about the Brawl/Inherent end changes is because they haven't figured out how it's ruining the game yet.
-
There's an entire subforum labelled Issue 16 Feedback, even. If you're in the "English" section, it's not far down, and is between Issue 16 General Chatter/Discussion and Issue 16 Bugs.

Depending on when you saved the powercust data, it might have become invalid and won't be loadable on live. Had that happen with one of mine.
-
Yeah, Debt Reduction is right up there with things like -Immobilize Duration set bonuses for me. 100% useless, I skip right over it when deciding how worth my money a set is.
Also, 0.75% Damage Buff falls into this category. I mean, really? 0.75% Damage? -
You can't, I tried it when I invited a friend to the game last month. It was all "nooo, trial accounts get shafted" and I was all "Screw you, RMT bastards! Makin mah game less newbie friendly!"
-
Well, I wouldn't be surprised to see a brand new schwanky type of enhancement.
An enhancement without levels! No matter what your level is or what you're EX'd or SK'ed to, its enhancement values scale perfectly to whatever is a good amount for that level! Make a full set of these, and you'll never have to worry about losing your set bonuses while exemping, cause the level of the enhancement follows you down!
Heck, make them even fancier and make it so one character can redeem merits for some of these, but one of your lower level characters can then pick them up!
Fancyyyyyyy! -
Quote:I really get into it when I get a new game.Realize you just wasted 5 minutes of your life reading a stupid list when you could have been on the Training Server pre-screening all your power customization choices!
I just got Braid.
For a moment, I was thinking "Nuh-uh! I can just unread this but still know what it is, so I've wasted no time at all!"
Then I was all, oh yeah! Reality. -
Oh! Thanks for reminding me about this stuff, Zombieman!
I always end up facepalming because there was one character I REALLY meant to respec before the issue. -
I think upping Stalkers' crit when soloing mega-spawn missions is unnecessary really (stalkers are more for soloing higher level beefy targets than lotsa little ones), since the crit-per-teammate was to make them effective enough to be invited to teams- large team battles last longer, which makes initiation moves like Assassin Strike less beneficial to the team overall.
Really, what we should be talking about is how Gauntlet sucks *** and doesn't work. I mean really, WHAT area taunt? I'm whaling on a guy, and the foe adjacent to him, who has not been hit by *anybody*, is still aiming at squishies? He's all like "Gauntlet? WTF is that? Noob tanker".
DERAILMENT! MUAHAHAHAHA!
