Anecdotal input:
My 50 Plant/Rad troller and 50 Bots/FF MM both solo much easier than my Fire/SR (44) and Kat/Dark (50) scrappers. And those scrappers solo very well. But the troller and MM are much safer to play and can manage larger spawns more quickly.
I love scrappers, and they are extremely well-balanced AT (and have been for ages), but it is not a fair statement to assume they are OP'd. This game is not that hard. Any AT played well is OP'd compared to an AT played mediocre.
TD;DR: OP is wrong. -
Whatever you do, for the love of gawd, avoid Robots/Forcefield. You will own everything you come across, but you will also be bored beyond tears. I have a 50 Rob/FF, and while extraordinarily powerful, it bores me to tears.
I'd recommend Robots/Dark/Scorpion for total ownage while keeping you involved/awake. You can also do Mu if you like, too.
Alternately, Thugs/Thermal -

I think what Prof meant was that if you have 2-3 defenders on a team, the combined buffs/debuffs begin to turn a team into a true powerhouse. 4+ defenders in a team and the team is nigh unkillable.
Personally, if you want to solo and group and kick *** at both, I'd totally recommend:
Radiation/Sonic Defender - huge debuffs on Rad, some heals, a rez, an aoe buff, etc. Plus sonic does solid damage for defenders, with a nice -resistance debuff on mobs that makes the whole team hit harder. And you have a nice AoE sleep for solo work.
AFAIK, this Defender is possibly the most powerful (I won't say broken, because its working as intended).
On the controller side, Illusion/Radiation is pretty much the same, though Illusion substitutes some pets and controls for sonic's -resistance and sleep. It is possibly even more powerful, though the radiation debuffs are not as potent as the Defender's (though still numerically useful).
There have been discussions for a long time on the boards about what these two builds can do, properly handled, including soloing some of the toughest critters in the game (Giant Monsters) and Arch Villains/Heroes.
Try one out, I think you may find it to your taste. Good luck and welcome to CoH. -
Agree with above posters about player skill and Invention Origin enhancements.
That said, I'll add a couple of my own thoughts on powerful builds:
Radiation/Sonic Defender
Robotics/Forcefield (or Dark Miasma) Mastermind
Dark/Super Reflex scrapper -
You'll still get redraw with Ninjitsu.
SR won't give you any headaches, though, as far as regen is concerned.
Rise to the Challenge still requires mobs to increase regen same as scrappers. You replace QR with a heal, so that's one power (again) for redraw.
TBH, my Nin/Nin deals with the redraw, its not too bad. -
Quote:I'd love a new overlay for granite. Especially if it had crystal, color tint and lava options. I'd also like to see it cover the whole character (no exposed spots), much like ice armor does. For those of you with Stone Armor characters, how attached are you to the current appearance of "Granite Armor"? There are a number of issues with Granite Armor that could be elegantly solved by changing the VFX of the power into something more akin to the other armor toggles in the set. IE, your player model and costume wouldn't go away, there would just be a new set of 'Granite' armor pieces overlaid.
I haven't made any decision to do this, it's just one of the options for dealing with the multiple issues we have with Granite Armor and I wanted to get a sense of how many of you guys wouldn't be able to adapt to a change like this.
Before anyone asks, no...we couldn't have it both ways.
Thanks for asking us -
No belly buttons on all Marvel characters. That is all.

Not off hand, but some general advice:
- buy, steal or borrow a +3 Defense Steadfast IO (invention origin enhancement) and put it into Perma for Toughness
- get to the softcap defense (45%) for S/L damage. Easy to get to without a whole lotta IOs, I did it with Weave and Maneuvers + Combat Jump, plus the above-mentioned IO.
- make sure to get and keep Frozen Aura, which is now a footstomp attack with sleep as a side bonus. Great for aggro and AoE damage.
Just some .02 on the quick. Welcome back! -
Take care A_C, your posts will be missed

Quote:Why do you want a Defender when you can have a Corruptor?
Why do you want a Corruptor when you can have a Defender?
Thus, nobody will play Defenders or Corruptors anymore because each one is better than the other.
And why do you want a Blaster when you can have a Corruptor? Thus, everyone will stop playing Blasters as well.
Then everyone will stop playing Tankers because you have Brutes, then everyone will stop playing Brutes because you have Scrappers, then everyone will stop playing Scrappers because you have Stalkers, and everyone will stop playing Stalkers because you have Widows.
Everyone will stop playing Dominators because you have Controllers, and everyone will stop playing Controllers because you have Masterminds, and everyone will stop playing Masterminds because you have Wolf Spiders.
Everyone will stop playing Kheldians because you have Soldiers of Arachnos.
Finally, everyone will stop playing Widows because you have Wolf Spiders.
My logic is undeniable.
Inconceivable! -
I read the whole lovely thread. I find it fascinating that Turbo doesn't chide the tank for the sucktastic build and crap-astic tactics (gauntleting a whole room on a pull), but takes time to lambast (and defame) the OP for using a power they think has little or no use.
Sheer [censored] at its finest. Good show.
To the OP, I'd have done the same with my Bots/FF. I wouldn't have gotten into a sparring match, but as far as actions, you did the right thing. Any tank who doesn't understand their powers, aggro or build, and refuses to be educated, deserves to be left holding their spent, useless wad in their hand while competent teammates pick up the slack. -
I really could care less what other people do with their costumes, if they look like heroes or villains, or vice versa, or if they are giant towering columns of yellow ice.
I put up with rainbow-dyed plate-armored ogres in the bazaar in EQ. I can live with anything :P -
I'm going to say "hello" to our Euro brethren, now that we occupy the same boards

I need to see that cartoon movie. Too many references in the last few weeks to do othewise. :P

Put a damage proc or two in it, as well. Life gets even better.

Since heroes/villains are all about betrayal to another cause, how about:
Infidelity? -
I'm sooo looking forward to getting rid of the wind-up KOB. I know a lot of folks like it, but I can't reconcile it with my tanker's concept
I do like the ground-slam, too (though I am also a fan of the foot stompage)

Rocket boots are cool. They get even more pimp when you Group Fly your Robot minions.

Yeah, not too sure where to post this, but it's going here.
Me as brute: *gathers up nice hoard of enemies (EDIT: NOT HERDING, MAKING SURE THE MOB IS ALL WITHIN MELEE RANGE FOR EVERYONE TO USE THEIR AoEs!) for a big footstomp*
Mastermind: "Attack, my minions!"
Mob: *goes flying 5 million feet in every direction possible*
Me as brute: ">"
Every single time I team with a MM this scenario happens and I just don't feel like playing anymore. Seriously, I can probably down a bunch of insps and solo 3 more mobs in the time it takes them to track down all the enemies they scattered. Bots MMs are especially bad at this, and 90% of the MMs have to be bots for some reason. And then because they aren't paying attention to who their minions are attacking, they end up aggroing another group. Does anyone else feel my mastermind pain?

bummer for you - that's why I play heroes.

The OP hates MMs.
Because only MMs have knocback in CoV.
Oh, wait...

Additionally, ALL MMs have knockback.

Darn them crazy knock-backin' zombies. I think the Lich is the worst offender. Off with his head! -

I don't think Blasters will get Dark Pit - it's possible that they could get Petrifying Gaze instead (Ice, Elec, AR, Sonic, Arch, Psi, and Rad being the precedents for having a range single-target control power in the primary).
