  1. From a pure appreciation of brutality standpoint, I very much appreciated "Dog's" mutiple bisectings of enemy soldiers. You just don't see enough cleaving of people from shoulder to hip in movies these days...
  2. Ok, the "all books" thread seems to be going strong, but I'm dealing with the story from a strictly cinematic perspective and don't want literary spoilers, so am chiming in on this thread. Blackwater battle was suitably epic and I was pleased and unsurprised to see my man, Tyrion step up as a true leader. Joffrey's cowardice and betrayal (to me, it was clearly his man, though perhaps directed by Sersi, who cleaved him at the battle's end) was also no surprise. Tyrion's steward desrves some serious props and I hope he ends up being a long term character. I look forward to Joffrey's demise more than I have craved a cinematic villain's comeupance in quite some time (thinking Delores Umbrage). Great season. It will be a long wait for season 3.

Ok, I approached this one not expecting much, but have been pleasantly surprised with each episode. It's a Drama/ slice of life set in the late '60's and is set around some High school friends that play/ enjoy Jazz music. There are some of the standard Jazz songs played, but the 'jam' sessions are produced by Yoko Kanno and used directly in the anime. (Episode 7 has the best jam session so far) (Crunchyroll)
THANK YOU for hooking me up with this! This is the first Shinichiro Watanabe since Samurai Champloo I think (actually not quite right, there's an anthology episode that I need to see also, Genius Party, Baby Blue, 2008). Watanabe's a favorite of mine. Always dig Yoko Kanno's excellent grooves as well. She's great.

The posting of that image is the equivalent of Godwin's law for a Liefeld thread.
  5. As fun as it is to mock Liefeld (I really do think it's fun btw), this is from October.
  6. Liam Neeson had some goofy fun in the 80's with several nerd-worthy efforts, including Krull and Excalibur.
  7. Probably not Wonder Woman. Definitely not Supes or Bats. I'm thinking Martian MAN-hunter. Get it? MAN-hunter. Get it? You see, he hunts MEN...

Add some Tom bumpers and POOF, Toonami is back! Using nostalgia to bring back some fans of an old show while saving money by reusing old series is brilliant from a marketing and profitability standpoint.
Durarra has been playing on Saturday nights for months. I think MAYBE FMA:Brotherhood is newish.
  9. A reasonable point. I may have a totally unrealistic idea of broadcast licensing costs for alternative options.
  10. If you have criticisms or want to give them some useful suggestions. Here is the CN feedback page (and my not-necessarily-helpful response rant).

    Cartoon Network feedback page.

"I just saw the lineup for the Toonami re"launch" which is just slapping the formerly beloved label on the same stale Saturday lineup.

You guys aren't even trying. You do realize that Japan hasn't stopped making series right? You realize that Cowboy Bebop is 14 years old right? You realize FLCL is only 6 episodes right? You realize you have two different Full Metal Alchemist series scheduled in the same block, right? Are you guys running your programming from your dead cousin's old VHS "japanimation" hand-me-downs box? Good lord. There is a freaking universe of potential quality programming available and you give us THIS? My god. There's this thing called "the internet". Maybe you can check out a couple of animation-related websites, and get a clue or three (for free!) from your TARGET AUDIENCE instead of wondering why your marketing people (or person or intern) can't re-brand your olive loaf on white bread into something edible. "

Yeah I'm sure that will make a BIG difference (not). But I had to vent.
  11. Man, outside of Durarra! that's a stale lineup. They do realize that Japan didn't stop making series 7 years ago, right? Sure it's got Bleach, which is ongoing (and available in 20 different easy-access online portals), but their core target audience is likely going "meh." They just don't get it. There's such a rich pool to draw from and they just bring in the same old rehash? They do realize FLCL is only 6 episodes right? You can't just keep running that stuff over endlessly and expect anyone to show up for it. They aren't even trying.
  12. Best stuntman in history imo. He did very well in The Karate Kid remake. Seriously he should have doing those mentor type roles over the last decade. He can act and doesn't need to be the goofball all the time. I think he's been selling himself short as an actor for quite some time.
  13. Quick comment. Elementary=House as police procedural.
  14. Anything Tim and Eric-inspired would necessitate renaming the segment Toonarrhea. Those guys need to leave the universe asap. They are a blight.
  15. Not participating in the "debate", just offering some individual feedback. I am having a ton of fun leveling my staff/inv scrapper, currently lvl 32 (looking forward to throwing the big hitter into the mix now!) I am having more fun than with my other youngish melee chars using the new-school sets (a lvl 24 street justice/sr brute and lvl 26 titan/wp scrapper), which I will likely not pick up again, until I 50 this char. The key for me is the continous AoE chain, which regardless of target caps on the cones really make me feel like a meat grinder. The animations flow together in a way that is viscerally VERY satisfying to me. Having Guarded Spin available as an opener encourages bold spawn diving, which is my preferred playstyle. I can't say I don't miss Build-up, but in some ways it encourages a more continuous gonzo playstyle, which I am embracing.

If you're on Liberty, look me up for stick fighting good times. Trixie Styx (lvl 32 staff/invuln).

Well, with GG making more than a cameo appearance in the thread, troll infestation was an inevitability. The snark index is now heading off the charts. Well, it was a good thread while it lasted...

I thought it odd that Cap would be so rude to Fury. I obviously forgot the chat they had at the start! I must be inherantly racist! Sorry!
If it was a tip, Sam Jackson would have gone into "HELL no! You did NOT just do what I think you did!" mode.
  19. Put Lost season one episodes in the order of Firefly's episodes and see if you get a season 2. People LOVED that show no less than browncoats love Firefly. I never watched Lost, but even from the sidelines I can see it was engrossing story-telling and characterization. It made JJ Abrams a household name (among media-savvy households). Whedon could (I don't think it would be inaccurate to say "would likely") have been Abrams if Firefly had been un-bungled by Fox. Once Firefly secured its base audience, it would have glorious gravy for seven-ish seasons (with no need to do a movie other than milking megabucks) and Whedon would have been helming blockbusters 4 years earlier.

Slamming Whedon doesn't really serve any purpose. Whedonites (and most others) are justifiably grateful to have a capable, character-focussed director at the helm of their summer blockbuster fare to provide some mental nutrition in a landscape of Michael Bay/ Brett Rattner sugar-rushes.

I've never heard shortsighted idiocy and lousy taste characterized as a "good reason" before.
  21. I was mildly shocked at the q-word's appearance. I knew what it meant and the vitriol with which it was delivered made it feel not dis-similar to Hit-girl's taunt using the c-word in Kick-***.
  22. Probably will be down in a few minutes but here's the 2nd post credit scene.

  23. Joss is worshiped for creating three of the most beloved (depth not breadth) fantasy series of the last 15 years and for having considerable gifts with ensemble characterization and dialogue. Also, he's funny as hell.
  24. I thought the early banter between Stark and Banner in the lab was very good stuff. Was very pleased to see as much of Pepper Potts as we did. I think Gwynneth's "lines", especially in the jeans shorts, were pretty awesome.
