I don't give TR the lifespan of Auto Assault. I was all of level eight I believe before I had a quest asking me to kill 200 of "x" things. And to clarify, not just "A" mission, but the only mission I could find. Believe me, I tried.

Whew....man I sure am glad Richard G. said that TR had no kill-grind in it because otherwise I seriously would have mistaken that for kill-grind.

Odd, was in beta... never made it past level 15 due to RL constraints, but always had tons of different missions to choose from. The only thing that came CLOSE to what you mention above was in a "zone exploration" type of mission that summarized all the exploration stuff you could find/do in that area.

I've been told repeatedly that there's "more to the game" beyond the zone I explored, and it really did look promising. In the end, though, it was the LOGOS powers that drove me away. I like my Science Fiction HARD. The settings, the art, the starting weapons and armor all worked well for that, but the ridiculous dependence on the LOGOS powers put too much magic-fantasy in it for me.

I'll be hanging around the NC Soft booth on Saturday. I want to check out the show, but I am only there Saturday, so if I am not at the NC Soft booth, I am wandering around aimlessly.

I am on a panel discussing the future of MMOs at 6pm on Saturday in Theater A.

Wish I was going, but nope.

Before you go, stop at your local screenprinter and order a XXL "I Nerfed Regen" T-Shirt. You can use it:

I'd even suggest an "I designed enhancement diversification" one, but some things just shouldn't be joked about. :P

yes the costs do seem high, but some things to consider:

-People playing EQ2 on the "exchange-enabled" servers could usually sell their characters when they left for the game for about double of their subscription costs up to that point.

- the total 'secondary market" of selling virtual goods outside the game (gold, loot, etc) exceeded $800 million last year.

Not defending it either, but there are plenty of motives for wanting a fast trip to the top. Contrary to popular opinion, many ebayers aren't newbies- they're veteran players that seek an alternate high-level character to play without the burden of playing up that far. Its the level 50 tank that decides he'd like to try the level 50 game as a healer, but doesn't want the grind.

[/ QUOTE ]

That, IMO is actually worse than a newbie - because you can frequently educate a newbie. But a level 50 tank playing a level 50 healer is an absolute menance - because not only does he not know how to play a defender*, odds are he thinks (because he is a vet) he doesn't need to know how.

*Regardless of the AT, each one plays different - and it takes a while to learn the reflexes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed, but in many MMO's people will argue that the endgame "raid" type of play is so different from leveling play that there's no value to what you learned in the 50 levels of playing you used to get there. Someone already familiar with the raid strategies could potentially adapt to a new AT much better and faster than a naturally-leveled player that knows nothing of raid tactics.

That mentality is more common in other games where the endgame is a much more different playstyle than here, though.

10. thanks for the feedback!

Just to note, I've been given a few copies of the boxer screenshots now and an offer for a Vanguard model. Thanks for the help everyone!
11. I had a never-finished guide for issue 9 started, and cannibalized some of the jokes from there to get this one started, but yes, it was quite an effort to assemble.

If you noticed, I'm still looking for the veteran reward set and a pure set of vanguard armor. Didn't have as much time to play and earn the armor because I was too busy writing.

I would agree with this. At some point, people are just not going to come back. Their names should be freed up eventually. While a poster above said 15 months should be the cutoff for your name going back to the pool regardless of level, I think that is a bit too soon. I would support sometime over 2 years inactive losing you the right to squat on your level 50's name, and possibly even their space in the database. It may sound harsh, but how many really come back after a 2 year hiatus?

[/ QUOTE ]

You'd be surprised. I know I've gone back on "nostalgia trips" to my other MMO's on occasion. A great many people aren't long-term community members, but they like to come back when enough changes have made the game fresh again.

Any game that puts barriers to the returning player cuts off a revenue source. You decide how much you're willing to alienate and weigh it againt the benefits of such a system.

In this case, 6 levels is the balance they came up with... and it appears to have been researched and discussed with considerably more forethought, planning, and access to information, than any of the suggestions offered here.
13. Just realized I should probably post this here, since this area isn't purged.

Sorry for the unintentional double-post.

After the successful (and extensive) proofreading done by the good folks here, the I10 Guide (Comic Book Version) is ready for prime time... well, maybe on one of those more obscure cable channels.... and maybe not prime-time, but I'd put it against any of those 2:30am B-grade infomercial any day!

I tried to make a comic with enough of an feature tour to be worthwhile, but enough humor to keep it interesting.

The level six limit makes this all but useless. If an account is inactive it is inactive. If you're going to set a limit, at least put it to something that can't be reached in an hour....

I'll just throw level 30+ out here.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ex has already countered that "uselessness" claim. Don't you think that the people that are considering reinstating an inflammatory policy might... just maybe... have done more RESEARCH than you have?

They DID data-check... they found that the biggest chunk of names that would be affected fell under the 5-level mark. Since that would also be rather unintrusive and this CAN BE a controversial issue, you go with the solution that has the best net results with the least bit of intrusion.

Can't fathom why there are so many names?

Yes, you can get past level 5 rather fast... but in any 30-day situation, dabblers are likely to play maybe one character very far, but experiment on a half-dozen more. Others "reserve" quite a few names for possible future use... and even others create alts on various servers to see what the communities are likel. Most of these will be low-level "placeholders.

That's what this targets- the characters that were-even when on active accounts- NOT in the game enough to have established an identity.

Well, the contest is long over, but I'm still plugging away at my own CoX webcomic- the NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. Issue #8 was released today at the site - www.theneighborhoodwatch.net.

I hope now that the contest is over some of you guys are still doing your own comics. I've been putting out NW for more than a year now, and it's always a fun diversion for me. Of course, sometimes I find myself using the game more for making my comics than for just playing. Anyway, I just want to encourage anybody else working on books to keep it up and hype your books here so other players can enjoy them. Peace!

[/ QUOTE ]

Always been a fan of the neighborhood watch. I'm still grinding away on some ideas.

The draft of my I10-guide comic is up. It's less story and more just being goofy, but I wanted to try something more lighthearted.

I had a 3-part arc planned, but it originally had scenes from the first Rikti invasion. With those art assets unavailable, I'm debating on how to go ahead with them.

I also have special zombie themed story that requires a bit more /demorecord mastery. Hope to have it ready by halloween.

17. Oh- one more: the next VETERAN REWARD COSTUME- male and female.
18. Ok, work's been heck, but I'm determined to finish my half-complete "Guide to I10" comic book. Problem is, I've spent so much time at work, I haven't unlocked all the costume pieces for the Vanguard armor.

If anyone would like to offer shots of his or her character in full Vanguard goodness, along with the character name, I'll credit the pic(s) in the book.

Also, if anyone wants to make my life easier, other shots that promise to tie up some time:
- solid screenshots of the Rikti art upgrade, including soldiers, leaders, the new hard suits, the new bases, and the zone-based mothership battles. Rikti GM anyone?
- panoramics shots of the Warzone (including dropships) with the highest graphical quality possible (still haven't upgraded my poor suffering system)
- shots of Fusionette & Faultline from the mission they appear in.
- shots from the Lady Grey Task Force. (just a few)

Any help is appreciated.
With some help, and a little luck, I may be able to get this thing released before the "newness" is off the issue.

Eh, I wouldn't call it a retcon. Remember that in the original traliers, all Rikti wore battle armor, not just the upper echelons. I'd say it's something they've been wanting to do since the beginning.

[/ QUOTE ]

Interesting point there. I didn't remember the original trailers.

So if I had planned to show some battle footage from the original war, I could focus on drones/battle armor (new are close enough to the old) and probably stick with the guns (since the swords are an equipment upgrade) to give something reasonably authentic.

I know, with only a few dozen readers, I shouldn't care, but I'm a bit of a stickler for these elements.
21. Just wanted everyone's opinion:

You've probably seen the revised look of the Rikti for I10. While this is likely rather trivial- is the I10 look effectively a "retcon" ? The gear change (the axe/gun replacing the sword) could be seen as simple equipment upgrades, but some of the other looks... less so.

Just wondering what people here thought. I've been waiting for my new CBC software to shoot a few stories flashing back to the initial war, and once this goes live, I doubt there will be any way to go back and get the "old look".
