Quote:Nope. It means the rep-giver was too low to register even a single point shift one way or another. If you go to the post that's been repped and click on your little rep thingy, the grey ones say 'your rep is even' or something. I figure it means someone gave a plus and some gave a neg...
'Tis a guess though.
I tested this on my wife's account. She has zero reputation and 3 posts. When I repped my account from hers, I get the grey dot. -

I used:
Quote:That's strongly based on the legal copy I got for one of the CoH guides. It also appears to be what they use on their Paragon Studios site. Oddly, they don't mention the 'registered trademark" status of Paragon Studios on their own site, or I'd update it.Copyright © 2004-2009 This story is an independent derivative work of the City of Heroes Game. Quote:Fixed.• I would take the song “Back Street’s Back” by the Back Street Boys and make a five member Boy-Band video featuring Statesman, Positron, Back Alley Brawler, Synapse and Manticore. To fit the usual boy-band “formula”, Positron would be the “sensitive one”, Synapse would be the “Funny one” and Manticore would be the “tough guy.” Yes, the video would have choreographed dancing and screaming catgirls.
You mentioned Billy Crystal and all I could think of was Manticore & Sister Psyche doing *that scene* from "When Harry Met Sally." Sadly, we don't have the animations to do the scene justice. -

Odd, aside from the double-login issue the first weekend, I haven't had any issues with the boards yet. Not a single timeout. There were times when the old boards were almost unusable.
Granted, I don't use the "go to new posts" link, but the other features, like organizing PM's, the "public messages" feature, the enhanced sigs... TAGS... and more relevant search.... better QR system... I think they're all quite an improvement. -

Now THAT's a moral outrage I can support

Quote:You're right. Some are saying BillZ's sig glorifies sexualized extreme violence against women. I disagree, but even if it did, it'd just be a drawing. Your sig, on the other hand, causes guys to bang their chins off their desks as they reflexively try to peek underneath. That's real violence against real people.I'm confused. If people are flipping out at Bill's sig, why am I getting so much positive rep from mine? >_>
(You people really have no idea how hard it was to find something that tasteful to go with the quote.)
Doesn't matter if it was self-inflicted- my jaw still hurts, dammit!
EDIT: That's not really true. Sure, some guys probably did reflexively look for the pantyshot. I did not. I'm better than that. I was contributing to the collective male subconscious that was trying to will a zipper to burst. -
Quote:As opposed to a male being impaled?here i will point out that you did not actually add anything meaningful to the argument
if you go back and suffer through all my punctuationless posts and then respond to the points raised we might just get somewhere
i will say that "dire offense" is, in all likelihood, not what anyone is actually experiencing
the actual emotion is probably closer to "distaste" which i think is a reasonable reaction due to the picture depicting a woman being graphically impaled
My distaste for general graphic depictions of impaling aside, the "woman" being impaled is a rather accurate depiction of the game's Lilitu... and pretty close to many of the generic succubi found earlier in the game. Because of this, I'm not reading much sexual innuendo into the act of "impaling" based on the female demon character's state of dress.
Sometimes we read in more than we should. You've jokingly referred to Freud and psychoanalysis in other posts. There's the anecdote of Freud being questioned about his own oral fixation with a phallic object- he allegedly responds "Sometimes a Cigar's just a cigar." You can take that as simple denial or a lesson in the limitations of psychoanalysis or even a warning that when you're looking for a particular message, you'll start seeing it in everything you encounter. Maybe there's a little truth in all three.
I'm of the belief that whoever left the rather extremely judgmental message for BillZ was a bit too quick to judge and attributed a great deal more emotional weight to the image than would be the norm. -
Quote:People will ignore the horns & tail & just focus on the chest if it lets them fulfill their preconceived notions of someone... or their need to feel persecuted.gee, I coulda sworn that was some kinda demon in your sig...you know, between the horns and the tail and all.
I guess people see what they want to see..
Then again, the comments are anonymous. Maybe the commenter did have horns and a tail herself...
(Never liked the whole torso-impaling style in pics or movies myself, male or female, but that's more because it hits too close to home. That's my baggage, and not one to foist on someone else, though) -

Prediction:
The next step will be twittercaching.
Take twitter comments but cross-index them with a gps coordinate a la geocaching (either automatically through your phone's GPS or manually). You can then add tweets that can be found by people querying that area. It'll be used for... well, mostly junk, virtual graffiti, virtual geocaching, and attention-seeking. People will also rate restaurants & retailers... allowing just enough usefulness that the tech evangelists will herald it as the next great awesome.
In reality, most people that try it will have to wade through lines of text trash just to find the only review for their restaurant on it is "try the veal." -

About the only good use of twitter I've seen is Othar's Twitter.
It's the continuing adventures of Othar Tryggvassen Gentleman Adventurer (from Girl Genius fame) told through his tweets.
If you're a latecomer, you can catch up with the compiled tweet stories here
I'd always envisioned creating collaborative story told by multiple characters' tweets... but then RL whacks me on the back of the head and I realize that it'll have to wait till I win the lottery, hire two dozen assistants to help me with my backlog, and develop the creative chops to pull something like that off.... -
My life's too dull to twitter...
And given what people will Tweet about, that IS depressing. -
Quote:Me? Stalking?*chants* guilt-trip guilt-trip guilt-trip guilt-trip...
Still stalking me Chase?
If I were stalking I would probably have responded to this earlier, rather than wait so long it that this topic fell off the front page. Then, maybe this post would seem to be a sincere response and not mistaken for a shameless /bump. -
Quote:I tested this: my wife's forum account is unused & has a low post count. She's got zero rep. I had her rep me and I got a grey. How do you give a rep value of zero though? What does it all mean? I just noticed I had a grey box in my User CP and no comment either. I thought you could only add or subtract.
So it might be rep from a low-activity, no-rep user. -
I used to be a hardcore Min/Maxer... gotta know all the elements and how they work together. Of course, I'm the kind of geek that taught myself prob & stats back in Junior High just so I could work out Axis & Allies scenarios against myself, so I'm far from normal.
Nowadays, I still need to KNOW how everything works, but once I have that knowledge, I intentionally avoid those builds. Things get too unchallenging at that level, so it's nice just to study it and then stow it away for future reference (or when a change makes it obsolete).
I prefer to make builds that challenge the convention- things like an all-stun-set energy melee brute- just to try things differently. I like figuring out how unconventional team builds can work together, rather than put together the preferred sets. -
Quote:Ah, here I was... trying to make an alternate banner with Positron more prominently featured. I couldn't cover up enough of statesman's cape without the patch seams showing through.PK m'dear, fix this image so I can use it in a sig please.
You've inspired me, Athyna. The Tutu does the trick!

That's where I'm concerned. I know some people claim to have been banned for exploiting. It seems what the current dev regime did was come up with a lesser punishment than bannage (removing characters) after the fact, rather than using the punishment at hand, then applying it more liberally.
