And to be honest, your statement holds true for ALL statistics, not just those found on the internet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, except for the ones where they run actual polls and have something, flimsy or not, to base their number off of. Or the ones where they have solid, measurable set of numbers of the whole picture.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're missing my point. His statement was that out of all internet statistics, a percentage are made up. I was saying that a percentage of all statistics are made up.

Many statistics, even ones with "actual polls" and "solid measurable sets of numbers" can be completely false.

There was a time in history where the republican presidential candidate was predicted to win by a landslide, but lost the election. The "extensive" polling was done by phone, and they looked for phone numbers based on the license plate registry. This was during a time where owning a phone and a car was rare, so they only polled the richer population, which is heavily republican. Just one example of poor sampling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or easily manipulated. DV statistics are so high because they use the words "any FEAR of abuse," meaning more women are saying they FEARED being abused, when none happened, ever.

For some reason, the Server Status page keeps refreshing back to yesterday afternoon (Check the date and timestamp in the bottom-right corner of the page). The servers are not actually up yet.

    HELP PLEASE

Also, a nice website I found that let me know I could actually run CoX is System Requirements Lab. It's great for any type of game, and a good basic step. But it's just that: it tells you if you can run a game, but doesn't detect problems.
  5. Sadly, I spent the time looking up the info on PlayNC's website in the support question. Here's the answer:

"Please understand that NCsoft does not have the ability to protect systems outside of its network, and cannot control the actions of any user which may be using your machine. It is each user's responsibility to keep secure their computer system and keep private their account information. Because of this, we will not be able to reimburse you in any way for anything else done to your account by a computer criminal. This is another reason it is imperative to do everything possible to make your computer safe. If someone does break into your computer and hacks your game data, you should contact your local authorities to report this crime."

Search Account Security FAQ on the PlayNC support tab and it should pull that up. You may have to specify City of Heroes, but not too sure of that.

    PvP Professor

The fact he was paid for this survey is astonishing.

He was going in, TP'ing foe into drones, and then bragging about it. He was even doing this when people were actively engaging in PvP.

What this study says is, effectively, "When you harass somebody and they ask you to stop yet you keep doing it, they get mad."

And this man had to get a degree to figure that out.

He wasn't PvP'ing, he was griefing. And then vilifies our community. And I bet the devs knew about this and let it happen so they could publish the story and get our game some press. Sadly, it's negative press the way it's presented.

Most of these posts are kind of hypocritical.

Your mostly upset that players are now making the game easy on themselves by leveling up quickly in AE.

It's hypocritical because the real reason your upset is because you want to make the game easier by inviting players on your task force team that know what they're doing instead of just teaching someone how to play and informing them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that's some pretty warped logic right there...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sign me up for warped logic then, because I kind of agree with him.

When I see folks who have no clue what they're doing on my team, I don't sigh, I just enjoy the extra challenge. YMMV.

No team wipes because of one, two or even seven players out of eight ; the only one responsible for your own death is yourself, and using newbies as a scapegoat won't change that fact.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Way to misunderstand the topic of this thread.

The problem we are talking about isn't that characters are getting killed by other players incompetence.

The problem is that many new players are developing an unrealistic skewed idea of what this game has to offer because they are only seeing one tiny aspect of it.

    1. We are seeing more and more players that think the game only consists of one zone.

    2. We are seeing more and more players that don't understand the basic game mechanics.

    3. For the ones that never leave Atlas this will lead to boredom because they will soon tire of running the same easy farm missions over and over.

They are already having problems running regular AE missions because they don't know the basic game mechanics, and those missions seem unreasonably difficult to them.

    4. Once they are bored and frustrated they will cancel their subs and if asked they will say negative things based on their faulty experiences.

That costs the company money and is bad for the game.

If the new players actually learn how to play the game there is a better chance that they will stick around and become vets like the rest of us, and they'll be recommending the game to their friends.

    In other words:

    Less customers Baaaaad.

    More customers Goooood.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm up for your logic there Forbin; not a big fan of inviting higher-level players to my team and them asking how to get to Founders Falls, what a radio mission is, etc.

But it CAN also cause team wipes. Before this whole AE-baby thing I did an STF. Fairly simple. Rad, go in and debuff Recluse, tank, well, tanks him, rad goes to help with towers, I heal tank. Easy. But the lovely rad decided that she needed to stay there and aggro Recluse. Aggro on her, die, aggro on me, die, aggro on tower team, team wipe. We repeated the instructions 5 or 6 times before we finally kicked her.

Now why did I go there? Because this is the exact kind of stuff that's going to happen with AE babies. When I was new, back in I-12, I had no idea what a Manti involved, got a team invite and went. Couldn't do it, but I would have been the new guy who had no idea what to do. Difference between me and AE-babies is that I HAD encountered AV's, mobs of minions and lts., bosses, etc, all that CAN attack back.

So let's go to that STF with 4 AE babies on. They have no idea what an STF is, but it's a team invite, so they say "Sure." We get in, and their mindset is "go in and attack, who can attack back?" First mish, 20 team wipes because of them. Go to the end with the 4 AV's, and what happens? They run in, because that's what they're used to.

AE sets the precedent that it's easy, mobs don't attack back hard, and you can just run in and aggro entire mobs. They have no idea how to get to zones, no idea how to properly play the game in a real setting, no idea how to run the higher-level TFs.

Yes, when I do a taskforce, I WANT to be able to count on the other people knowing what they're doing in the game. That's not making it EASIER on me, it's just normal playing. AE is like using "invincibility" mode. You play the game, but you're never REALLY good at it, because you just charge in with no risk and kill all.

This is a game with other people in it. If you solo and constantly die, whatever. But when you get on a team, THINK you know what to do and team wipe, and ignore what the others tell you, and constantly cause a team wipe, that's a problem.

AE is setting the expectations for those who ONLY AE farm that the game is easier than it is, and will get frustrated because A.) it's too easy, and B.) they get mad because they can't do anything well in the normal, standard missions. This will cause people like me to quit the game because they can't find decent teams, and people like them to quit because they can't play the game and/or feel it's too easy.

    Problem? Yes.
  8. Shadow Shard. Accessible through Peregrine Island, and being level 40+.

There are some mission givers there, but they mainly are like Levantera or a typical Radio mission; no arc, just constant missions, repeated. Otherwise, there's getting the Overseer badge and also some major taskforces (and the longest ones in the game.)
  9. I'd happily help, save for two issues hat might cause complications:

    I've never run an LRSF.

I can really only do an SF or TF after 9pm Central time. Kids awake before that.

If these are acceptable, I'm game. But then, I'd hate to be the one to kill the SF. My only 50 vil is a Mercs/Traps MM.

    XP bar etc

It is, yes, but using /menu will at least open the menu up so you can go to options and select the status bar from them.

    XP bar etc

Person on Guardian had this issue too. They tried most everything in this thread (since I was reading it at the time) to no avail. Finally, they tried /menu and it opened the menu for them to get it back.

    STF Glitched?

Kinda not understanding the OP so well, so let me see if I've got this right.

I got my stone tank wailing on Recluse, with the emp buffing me up. My teammates are knocking down the red tower, and when the time comes for the repairmen to come, they appear, and without so much as touching the tower, it's back to full health. The bubbler with her Repel Bubble on does no good, having a confuse aura does no good, they appear and it's all over.

Do I understand it? If so, glad I skipped out on the STF Monday night...
  14. Just looked, he's still there.

Thanks, saved me a mess of looking around.

  16. Just a reminder, Titans Reborn/Demise was planning an all-MM ITF for tomorrow, Saturday June 27 at around 9pm Central. So far we've got 3 confirmed, 2 maybes. Would anybody else like in on it?

Excellent! I thought I saw this somewhere before, forgot it was in a Scoop.

    Going rogue

But didn't they make the release of CoV into an issue as well? "Along Came a Spider," I believe. Is it conceivable that they'd make the Going Rogue release into an issue as well?

    EULA Question

    [ QUOTE ]
Rule #3 of the Code of Conduct:

    [ QUOTE ]
You may not use sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That said, in generally private channels, such as global channels or SG channels, or even in tells to somebody that you know well, it's generally allowed. However, that doesn't mean that somebody can't petition it.

If petitioned, the chat logs will be retrieved by the GMs, and they will make a case-by-case decision as to the extent of the foul language and, if actionable, the extent of action they would take. If it's a first offense, it might be nothing more than an e-mail reminding them of the game policy. If it has happened before, then there might be increasing punishments.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I saw that section, and it was my interpretation of it that you couldn't say something like "You're a bleeping moron" or "Shove it up your bleep you bleep." But something along the lines of "Bleep that" or "That bleeping Hellion just pwned my bleep" may be acceptable, since you're swearing about an NPC.

Generally, this guy tends to aggro people in PvP zones and is not well liked, so I can assume the person that threatened to petition him was just exacting vengeance on him. But it's also something I wondered about as well. Thanks for the replies.

    EULA Question

Right, I'm pathetic, I know. I read through the Rules of Conduct and the entirety of the EULA, but I'm still unsure about this.

My SG boss asked me the other day if swearing was against the rules, and if he could be reprimanded and/or banned for using it. I believe he was in a PvP zone at the time he got threatened, and I think there's a "little smack talk is acceptable in a PvP zone" rule or such. I told him not to worry, but did I do wrong?
  21. Actually boardthug, it IS a seperate slash command. /r yourmessagehere will send a tell to the last person who sent you one. However, I've noticed that if you zone into a mission or different map, /r will not work.

    All MM ITF

Right on, we have a time. For those that don't have an MM in the level range, you have till next Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at 9pm Central (which is 10pm Eastern.)

We'd love to do it then, but if too many people aren't able, that's cool too. I know it's during the Mothership Raid, but I don't know about y'all, I'm weary of the lag-fest that goes on in ANY of them (not pointing blame, and here I am rambling.)

So, back OT, here's the list so far:

    1.) @CharybdisClan (that's me): 50 Mercs/Traps
    2.) @Super Robster: 50 Bots/Pain
    3.) @Reapers Blade: 50 Mercs/Traps (maybe.)

Who else can I add to the list?
  23. CharybdisClan

    All MM ITF

Lossa traps it seems, which will be great: throw 30 web grenades and tons of caltrops and Rommie can't run like a [censored].

    The roster so far is:

    49 Bots/Pain
    2 50 Merc/Traps (I'm one of the two)

    Have a maybe of a Mercs/Pain.

I'd say it'd be great to have more debuffs. Traps have the Triage beacon which we can set up strategically and the Pains can help out with healing on the sides, Traps have a mess of debuffs. As for the other powersets, really don't know too much about them, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'll talk with my gang and post when we are looking at doing it as soon as I know. Thanks for the support!
  24. CharybdisClan

    All MM ITF

Okay, so myself and a few friends in my VG are looking to do an all MM ITF. I know, I know, lag valley will be DC heck, but I'd love to give it a try.

So, question is: we've got 4 MMs we're gonna use, so anybody else interested in adding the other 2 or 4? We don't have a time decided, other than the patented "Soon," so available times would be nice to let me know.
  25. Well, I don't know, but my SG, Titans Reborn, is on the medium-small size (lots of members show up in the SG list, but they're mainly alts and the like), but is still in the top 100 SG's. Mainly cause the founder can play almost 24/7.

We're running weekly taskforces on Thursdays, generally do the RWZ mothership raids on Saturdays and Sundays, and pull teams with higher-ups and lower-downs (level wise.)

We're all generally cool, save for the one guy, but he's been put into his cage.

Send global tell to @CharybdisClan for me, or the other guy is @Super Robster. Tell him that I referred you to the group from the boards. If our group fits your needs and playstyle, stick around. If not, let us know and no hard feelings.
