Of course, Nethergoat (*wave*) sort of ruined that with his explicit outing of LotGs in particular and the discussion of the profitability of really expensive IOs in general. It's not that you couldn't make a profit, but at least at the time, it shrunk the profit dramatically, and the increased amount of flipping actually LOWERED the high-end price of LotGs because more flippers meant more availability - when I had the ONLY sub-L50 LotG on the market, I could get whatever I wanted, even if that was a new all-time high price.

And yet, 'casual gamers' still call me eeeebil! =(
My current mini-obsession is finding severely undervalued recipes, stuff with low-ish incoming supply that's been selling for 5,000,000+ with zero for sale. I put in a bunch of bids for the going rate, then re-list them at a ridiculous, comically huge markup.
For extra eeeebil, I wait until I've stockpiled a bunch before I unveil what they're actually 'worth'.
So far its been a gold mine. Anything halfway decent in this game with 0 for sale is drastically undervalued. Some players absolutely will pay multiples of the 'last 5' price for the convenience of having it NAO, even if that means dropping 20 million on something that's only 'worth' 5.
/edit
Addressing the OP's question:
IMHO any profit is good profit. I've done everything in this game for inf from muleing recipes to the vendor to flipping purples. Only you can tell what the 'right' balance of time/energy to profit is for your play style.
Mess around with different schemes and see what fits you best.

"Why the hell is this like this? "
Damage is now based on activation time. Longer activation = more damage -
Hmm, WP probably doesn't need it.
If it were on say a shield/* I'd say slot it up but for WP You're probably better to sell it.
Edit: Oh and come to the market forum we'll teach you to turn that 'substantial' into billions.
(Note: some patience required) -
There was no "thank you" when I and a few others researched the nifty little drops aren't actually random bug. Oh sure we played with it, but we posted our findings too!

You seem to not know who Bronx is. I'll try to help you with that.
During the first few months of inventions Smurphy ran a cartel which made billions. During this time Bronx was, I believe, the self-titled master of the black market. Between Bronx (and friends?) and Smurphy( and friends) a large percentage of the 'good stuff' was bought up and either resold for profit, given to friends, or used by them.
This was the era of 10-40m purples and 30-40m for miracles/numinas. Yes, Bronx is very rich.

Yes. Neuron and Anti-Matter's bots are referred to as strange clockwork.

"I've got a lead on Anti-Matter and his strange blue Clockwork."
"The Clockwork who were trying to accelerate time were silver? Not blue, like Anti-Matter's?"

Was talking to my friend this morning... I'm working on my scrapper's build to add defense. And he wanted to show off his build... 45% smashing/lethal defense, on a fire/kin.
Granted that was an extreme build -- he said he'd spent 6-7 billion on it (which... when one person says "I have a 4 billion build" and another says "I have a 7 billion build" does it mean the 2nd person has a better build, or just more money and less patience? But I digress...)
Anyway... clearly SOME fire/kins would be fine farming one of those boss missions. ^_^ (And I know he does.)
But you have a point. For a 54 boss mission, a good tank and a well-built team are not afterthoughts. Some people get that, some don't. I was on a team yesterday where the leader very carefully picked out veteran players/good players with good builds (he commented on mine so I know he was paying attention to these things). Took extra time to assemble the team, but it ran really smoothly. On a different team, similar mission, lots of people dying and the leader was frustrated because things weren't working the way they were supposed to..."something's wrong... we shouldn't be having this much trouble!" he kept saying... but of course he'd just assemble a random group of 8 people together, several of which were mid to lower level. No real clue what made a good team for that kind of mission.
I think farms like this are still not very exciting, but they're miles ahead of older-style farms. At least everyone on the team is involved.

Snort. I have a softcapped smash/lethal build which cost about 100m.

I entered a mission the other day where all the mobs were LTs. and it was on a common farm map, Map 02. And there was no story to speak of.
So I figured it was a farm.
However, instead of all the mobs being the same kind, these were all custom ... kind of like the Justice League of America, except their names and costumes were nothing like the JLA.
But it was clear who they were supposed to be. A black clad, black caped martial artist ... a HUGE invul/ss tank all in green and yellow ... an yellow clad archer ... a very UGLY and SCARRED sonic gal in fishnets ... and so forth. All with the different power sets of the JLA.
So is this a farm? (It wasn't playing to any specific strength or weakness; wide variety of melee and ranged ATs, and fliers) There is no story. Just a Kill All mission. (though the status said Story in Progress, or some sort)
Is it a copyright infraction? The intent is clearly the JLA but there are no similar character names or costumes? Is that the difference between a copyright infraction and a homage?
I don't know what to make of this thing. I'm not looking to report it or anything ... so I won't list its name or number ... but I am curious.
[/ QUOTE ]
Since it's all LT's, it can be farmed... Is it an optimal farm? No .... It doesn't sound like the intent of the mission is to be a farm... Just hard...

I farm a LT. mission with 6 different damage types.

As I said, it can be farmed, but it's not optimal.

Did I mention that it includes end drainers and other disgusting melee power sets? No? Well it does.
Its also got a story with dialogue -

i asked for help i didnt ask for someome to question me.

Well, for farming the two most important powers are Bonfire and Repel. You want to take both of those as early as possible, and 6 slot them. Toggle on Repel the moment you enter your farm map and never turn it off. When you approach each spawn, drop Bonfire wait a second or two, then throw out your Fire Cages. After that, just let your imps clean up the leftovers...
[/ QUOTE ]
I can totally vouch for this. Its awesome, try it.

It works best on really large, tightly packed spawns.

So I just competed a mayhem mission and my options for contacts are: Operative Rutger, Timothy Raymond, and Psimon Omega. If you had to choose between the three, who would you pick and why(no spoilers please, I haven't done any of them). I'll eventually go back and do them all, just wondering what you think is a good one to start with.

Not quite, he said that GR wasn't Issue 16, not that I16 would be before GR. Theres a chance they could come out together, like CoV and Issue 6.
We will have to wait for July (OMG! Thats tomorrow!!!!) at least, to find out for sure either way.

I got invited to a team this morning, and as soon as I got on, one of the guys asked me if I knew any codes. I'd never heard this term before, but I asked if he meant ID numbers for AE missions, since it was the only thing I could think of that was code-like. He said no, then said "if you don't know what codes are, come back when you learn" and kicked me from the team.
Anyone know wtf this guy was talking about?

well, maybe if everyone did regular missions instead of AE all the time then there would be a steady flow of purples again. and with the bug going on with PvP drops right now, there are none to be put up in the market. they are both suppossed to be ULTRA rare. i drop ataleast 1 purple a day running regular missions. and 1 PvP recipe about evey 1-3 days depending on how much PvP i do.
[/ QUOTE ]
say what!!! 1 purple per day i've done 4 toons too lvl 50 the hard way with little teaming or 2-3 on team and that said toon is avile to get purp's for 4 lvl's and all i ever see is 1 MAYBE!!!! so do ya play for like 14 hrs a day or what???
and the drop lvl for all stuff needs fixing its way too low when what was at auction was going for 250 now nets 100k
[/ QUOTE ]
People are farming AE now and not the regular content. This means they aren't getting salvage drops.

It sets the spawns to the current team size so the people you have filling can quit team while you farm a larger spawn.
