Some dude on the Champion server did it better by posting this link:

Not to get started on it again, but you actually DID say exactly that.
(Highlighting mine.)Quote:Play till you cant, like me, or fu ck off...thats what NCSoft has done....

Again, it's the 30th. I quoted the redname post just a few messages ago. (Highlighting done by Hit Streak.)

Quote:Reading this... I just don't know what to say. Part of me thinks I should give you a hug, because it sounds like you need one. Another part of me wants to vomit. The rest of me wants to stay very, very far away from you. With people, I help people that I feel woud do the same for me and or have my well being at heart. If they dont seem to care about me in any capacity then I cant care about them in any capacity. I have done it before and not lose a bit of sleep seem someone walking down the road that was acting pretty dang rude to me a few days prior, in the snow with two kids and kept driving with no hesitation. I've been in a situation when this one guy passed out on the sidewalk yet I kept going about my way as usual and didnt feel anything once I found out he kicked the bucket. Just another death out of the thousands that happen everyday. Seen a person that was rude to me in a store line ended up getting into with a few other guys that stabbed him up pretty bad. Of course then all of a sudden he wanted to be nice and pleading me to call 911. I ignored him, got in my car and drove away. Not even sure if he made it or not. I'm sure eventually someone helped him out. So yea, I'd just watch them. The smell of burning flesh doesnt bother me much, although it's not a good scent. I bet some of these guys wouldnt put me out and probably opt to lecture on how well they spell and never make spelling mistakes and etc. So again, why would I put them out?
You do realize that you're very likely a sociopath, right? I'm saying that you lack empathy for the suffering of others, and I'm not trying to use that as an insult.
On the bright side, you probably are, as you say, very good at your job--sociopaths tend to focus on results and not care about the details (or effort) involved in reaching them... nor do they care that pretty much everyone they work alongside despises them. -
Quote:I would still save someone I knew to be a total *******, even as he or she spit and cussed and cursed my name.I feel the same.. Only difference i can say is, I would help someone I didnt know..Meaning, if they didnt fuc k me over already. If they did, then .....I wont say it....
Maybe the experience would change them for the better. If not, at least with their life saved, I'd still have the opportunity to beat their *** in the future. >_> -

Just to hit the high points...
Quote:If they don't sell the game, then they can state its value at whatever they want. They're looking at paying a ton of taxes this year for all the sales of Guild Wars 2, so they can state that CoH is worth MORE due to its history of development and get out of having to pay the US government operating taxes. (So yeah, NCSoft is probably cheating our economy out of money.)Is it a tax right off? If so tell us so we can be mad at the politicians and not NCSoft. Even if so its hard to imagine you couldn't sell the game for an amount greater than the tax right off.
Most likely, they want to keep the IP specifically so no one else will make a profit off of it. Selling the game to another publisher means that someone else will be getting money from its customers, when that money COULD be going to a different NCSoft product.Quote:Is it that you want to keep the IP so you can eventually put out an CoX2?
The sad fact is that while CoH is still profitable (and would likely be so for a few more years at least), it is not growing. Eventually, all those profits would dry up and the game would reach a point where it wasn't even covering its own development expenses. A Western company would likely just freeze development as that inevitability approached and milk what's already been done for all it's worth, but Eastern businesses don't operate on the same logic we're used to.Quote:Whatever you could sell the game for seems like more than what you would get for simply closing the game down. CoX has a lot of potential revenue left in it. Customers will continue to pay simply to keep the game in maintenance mode. We have to be paying in a lot more than what it would take to keep the servers running.
And again, since they can state the value at whatever they like to get out of paying US taxes this year, that's probably worth more to them than a reasonable offer for the IP. -
Quote:A red name clarified that it would be on the 30th. (Highlighting below is part of the quoted post, not my doing.)No sorry, it isn't...it is 11:59:59 pm nov 29th....My time it will be 2:59:59..I am not searching for the post, but a red name clarified..

I never said you didn't. In fact, you've mentioned several times that you DO want it to stick around.
You're obviously reading something into my post that quite simply is not there.
You're also doing the exact opposite of what you SHOULD be doing--even by your own admission. Log in, play the game, and enjoy the time you have left. Ranting, swearing and insulting people on the message boards isn't doing you any favors (AND it's more unhealthy than hoping for a miracle to spring up and save us all). -
It's November 30 at 11:59:59 PM, Pacific Standard Time. The game will shut off when the clock rolls over to December 1.
I'm unemployed and am on the verge of exhausting my savings. If I don't get a good paying job by the end of November, I'll be one of those homeless starving people.Quote:People are just to nuts over things that arent real. Help the homeless, the poor, the starving. ** CoH...Guess what..CoH is more important that human life to them...Messy isnt it........
I still want CoH to stick around and will do what I can to make that happen. Since I don't have the finances to do so, I do what I can in other ways. Namely, relay information as soon as I hear it to other people who DON'T have the time to spend on the message boards, call out bullshitters, and otherwise just hang with the cool people I've met over the last 8½ years. -

You should see his post in the other thread where he said people should kill themselves if they can't get over the fact that the game is shutting down. He's an all-around classy dude.
-
You told people to "go kill themselves". That makes you the absolute worst kind of person. You are on the same level as NCSoft--heartless and only out for your own interests. Show a little ******* compassion for your fellow humans, you worthless piece of ****.
Trust me, I comprehend everything absolutely fine. I'd wager I understand better than you, from the way you can't seem to string together a coherent thought. I'd further wager that just about everyone on these forums understands what's going on, to the point where your "reality checks" amount to nothing more than profanity-laden ramblings attacking people for the audacity to have so much as a shred of hope.
As for the forums not being modded anymore? I know for a fact they are. I just got modded yesterday. For the most part, they're only modding attacks against NCSoft, but I'm pretty sure a post telling people to kill themselves over a video game won't stick around too long. -
Or you could just go **** off yourself. Who are you to tell anyone else what they should be doing or feeling right now?
You're do what you want--if that means giving up, then so be it. You're NOT welcome to insult others for doing what they feel is right. Eat a dick, dude. -

Quote:No, I don't think it took him 5 weeks to do it, but it's all the more reason he wasn't doing his job as the company's PR guy. **** should have been done the day of the cancellation announcement.Really? You think it took 5 weeks to do that?
I think it was dropped on his desk this afternoon and he was told to make it look nice and get it out right away.
You have bad news, you respond to it pro-actively... not by sitting on your thumbs for over a month and waiting for the shitstorm to blow over. That is literally half your job when you work in PR. -
Community reps generally don't get access to the inner workings of the product, yo.
And honestly, at this point I'm guessing he's no longer technically a Paragon Studios employee. If anything, I imagine he's considered a temporary NCSoft employee... or worse, he may just be doing this out of the goodness of his heart and a lack of other things to do while he looks for another job. -
Quote:Don't forget that those costs were offset or even negated completely by the monthly microtransaction stipends that subscribers were gifted.Granted, we had new power sets offered this way but they weren't necessary to play and we always got our new zones and content as free updates.
(Note: The rest of your post is very insightful, and I'm not arguing with your musings in the least. Just wanted to add that bit of clarification.) -
Quote:Kind of like how there used to be an arcade in every mall in the 80s and 90s, and now you're lucky if there's a few games at the local (and now decrepit) bowling alley and/or minigolf course. What game companies don't seem to understand is that microtransactions may only be a passing fad.
I doubt microtransaction gaming will last anywhere near as long as arcade gaming did, because: a) they're asking for a lot more than a quarter for most things, and b) they come with a sort of unspoken promise that you've just purchased something "permanent"... that will disappear only months later when the game is unceremoniously shut down.
And at least if you REALLY love an old arcade game, you can usually buy a cabinet for a few hundred bucks... or of course emulate it. Cancelled MMOs are protected by their former owners the way a moonshiner protects his distillery--no sane amount of money is going to get you a home version, and any attempt to steal his recipe is going to be made while dodging buckshot.

Quote:I think the argument is that Zwill worked his *** off for the game and showed a ton of passion for everything he did, and the NCSoft PR person takes 5 weeks to write a single paragraph saying "Sorry we ****** your game (but not really)."So while I think it's very unfortunate that the people of Paragon are having to find new jobs, I don't think it's particularly unjust that an NCSoft PR person still has their job.
But then again, it's a pretty ******* unjust world we live in. -
I learned that Hit Streak hates Mr. Rogers and won't let you post pictures of him.

"In corporate South Korea, NCSoft cancels you!"
-
Quote:If that were the case, they'd have waited until much closer to B&S's release before cancelling the game.
On the other hand, they announced the cancellation the week after Guild Wars 2 was released... -
