They've literally asked us to police ourselves in the last few weeks of the game. They don't have the staff to do it anymore. So you see two things: posts that people would have openly made in the past that also would have been deleted by mods, and people seeing those posts NOT getting deleted and becoming braver to step even further over the line.

As someone who agrees with not wanting a game that looks like B&S, this is just a damn stupid thing to say. There are both plenty of skanky-looking boobtacular superheroes (of which I do not personally approve) in Western comics, and Asian-centric superheroes that are pretty friggin' awesome.

There's no reason a spiritual successor to CoH couldn't have more and better Asian customization options than the game we're playing now. ... I just don't particularly want to play a game where those are the only options.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that this is why people get annoyed by your posts, though. Not everything has to be just one thing or the other; it's good to mix ideas from many sources and take the parts that work best in the medium. It doesn't have to be all black or all white... an Oreo wouldn't be nearly as awesome if the experience didn't consist of both the cookie and the cream.

With the exception of #3/4 in regards to the PVP clique, I think Paragon exceeded your qualifications admirably. Though you are correct that in those same regards, those people did leave.
    • I never once felt that I was being treated badly as a customer playing City of Heroes.
    • I never felt (post-Jack, anyway... King of the Nerfs) that any characters had been invalidated by a change made, and the last few issues saw MAJOR improvements to under-performing powers, powersets and ATs. I only wish it had gone on long enough to see how Energy Melee would be rekindled when it was time to be ported to Scrappers.
    • An argument could be made for PVP, but I never saw the developers showing disrespect to any part of the game (Note: Lighthouse was not a developer). And other than pretty much giving up on PVP after the i13 fiasco and the feature rollback about 2 weeks after the AE launched, I've seen pretty much nothing but forward momentum from the team ever since Jack left.
    • There were no fundamental changes to any major areas of the game other than PVP--possibly the AE, but that was within a couple weeks of its release. Base builders who were NOT building bases intended for raids were given greater freedom, not less. People that did not want to participate in the Invention system were not required to do so; the same enhancements that the game launched with can be used just as effectively today.
    • My needs as a player were always met. I got to be a super hero. Actually, I got to be a LOT of super heroes. And I'd be perfectly happy making and playing heroes and villains of all shapes and sizes and abilities for a long while to come, even without further development. Consider me a very satisfied customer.

A_F hates anyone who likes the game because the devs didn't change it in the way he/she wanted in particular. I seriously hate using this term, but the only way I can describe it is "butthurt."

The Titan community on the other hand is practically a cheerleading squad for the game. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but they can be pretty extreme from time to time.)

Therefore, A_F hates the Titan community--and especially Golden Girl--more than anything. Heck, A_F and GG are pretty much antitheses of one another: unapologetically negative and unrealistically positive.
  7. My wishlist:

    1) Another superhero game with similar combat mechanics (i.e., not focusing on "Tank, Heal, DPS" like so many other MMOs like to do) and similar customization, but add destructible environments.

    2) Ban Another_Fan before the game even launches.

It's like the same 4 people over and over again in every thread. And they're doing so largely because forum moderation has been cut to "emergency only."

If stuff dont hit major stations, then it's below radar for me and I wont be interested then.
If you are interested in a potential future for CoH at all, you might want to add a semi-regular check to one of the larger MMO review sites... something like once every couple of weeks or once a month.

If you're done with CoH forever as of December 1st, then that's your prerogative and it's fine too. Despite our differences, I do wish you the best.

Hey, I'm by no means an expert myself. I may have taken a few years of Japanese language and a Japanese literature course back in college (nevermind the metric ton of anime I've seen over the last 15 or so years), but I've never actually been to Japan. *shrug*

I see an American movie called Smiley, but I'm not seeing a Japanese version.

I've seen that image a couple times. And yeah, that image of the killer is seriously hella-creepy, but the trailer makes the movie look like an unimaginative ripoff of Candyman: you call the bad guy, then he comes and gets you.

Basically like Candlejack. If you say his name, he comes and... *dragged away, tied up in a rope*

I dunno, I didn't see him as having actual romantic feelings towards her. It just seemed more like he felt that all the other students were trash (with most of them revealing themselves to be pretty terrible), and that she was some sort of ideal of what the youth should be like.

But I admit that I may have mentally misrepresented it, because making it a romantic thing would be pretty darn gross.

I know you weren't talking to me here, but I actually just watched it last week. It was pretty good, but I think it requires a bit of knowledge of Japanese culture to really understand.

Beat Takeshi was outstanding in it. As always.

Pretty sure that Posi said almost exactly this during the Loregasm (aka "Ask Me Anything") they did in September.

In a later Twitch video, a few possible Omega Slot powers that were being tossed around in idea-land got mentioned: a pet doppelganger of yourself, an ability that acted like the recent Super Speed pool addition Burnout, a power that circumvented limitations on existing powers (aka, allowed a Controller or Mastermind to summon their pets multiple times). These were by no means set in stone.

As for Genesis, I seem to recall hearing that they were unhappy with the implementation they'd come up with internally and were in the middle of reworking it, without saying what it did... but I don't readily remember the bit in the AMA mentioned by the OP that said they'd be patch powers, either.

There's no such thing as beating the crowds at the Crabtree Mall three weeks before Christmas. Should be fine at the restaurant, but parking will probably still suck.

For those of you unfamiliar with the area, parking is easier on the four-tier parking deck behind the mall than it is at the front or along the sides.

FYI, I worked at the Crabtree Mall about 10 years ago. Employees aren't even allowed to park at the mall on Saturdays in December--they're required to park down the street at an insurance brokers' office and take a bus over.

Like I said, this whole situation has reeked of them trying to cover their butts to avoid another such lawsuit from day one. But I'm not a lawyer (much less a trans-continental IP lawyer) anyway, so I'm not in a position to really comment on legalese mumbo-jumbo.

On one hand, we've already seen that NCSoft is capable of this as part of the Tabula Rasa scandal.

On the other, they've shown that they're terrified of it happening again (or at least getting caught), so who knows if it's something that any potential buyers of CoH will have to deal with?
