I would kinda like to see this character, but the OP's attempt to place an image doesn't work and the later link leads to a site that my security software won't let me see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Try this one .

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Thanks.

So is the complaint that the character got genericed due to looking too much like a Marvel Comics intellectual property? Because a simple Google search on that IP plus the character's background on VirtueVerse seems to justify the genericking.

Or is it becauae it took 5 years for the GMs to be notified and act on the IP violation?

The discussion over whether intellectual propert violations should be genericked and whether players should report it is old and tired at this point. We've been told they will do it and we're pretty sure that the source of genericking decisions is caution over another trademark violation suit and that it generally won't happen until the character is brought to the attention of a GM in some way (player report, though I suspect a player/character being a jerk and getting a complaint will make a GM look and notice for himslef/herself it's an IP violation). It's gonna happen and coming here and complaining about it or staging a "protest" isn't going to changfe that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are right about that. Complaining in the forum will not help.

If the OP really believe he is right and he can argue, explain and show that he is, then he should bring up the issue to those who really can change things. Whoever has the power to revert the GM decision becomes fair game at this point. Do like i did. Support, devs, community reps, directly to NCSoft, whoever can override the decision. These are the people you need to convince.

My Amazing Amazon wear a black tank top, she has no eagle and a capital letter A is her emblem. She is 7 feet tall and uses no lasso when she fights. Her bio never had any connection with Wonder Woman. So go figure why a GM genericed me.... He acted only because of the name in itself. And he was proven that he was totally wrong. But still, i had to go all the way whining and complaining because of what he done. It never is amusing and it is time-consuming and energy draining for nothing.

These GMs.... They are a nuisance in my book. But that's a personal opinion of course.

Well, maybe I can get the player to post the emails back and forth between the GMs & her. Proly just be an excuse to ban both of us and dlete this post however

The generic-ing is bad enough. 76% of the toons out there havea passing resemblance to SOMEBODY in comics. I respect coptright protection, but there are griefers on Virtue in particular that use this tactic to harrass people that they dont like, are jealus of a better tribute toon or just want to steal the idea themselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    so?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is so true about the jealousy and envy. Some people somehow feel frustration and just like to petition because they can.

Not long ago, i was playing my dominator, Sinner Psyche ( i made her look like Sister Psyche but being an evil clone made by Dr Aeon) . Out of nowhere another player started sending me PMs telling me that i was not creative, i had no right doing that, i was a moron, etc... And he told me that he would get me genericed for that and that would teach me.

Thankfully, i was not genericed so i guess he had it all wrong and was frustrated for a reason unknown to me. Envy maybe? Who knows.
  6. I have a character named Amazing Amazon and she once got genericed. But i did not give up and brought the issue at support, i complained at Castle and ExLibris, i did everything i could think of to get the attention of authorities and/or influent people in CoX.

Finally, i won my case! I got my name back after 2 weeks of generication.

But you know what? If a moron petitioned my char again, i woudl have to do all again the whole thing. It sucks like that.

Lighthouse once told me that they had taken the whole thing about the naming policy way too far and that things were supposed to smoothen a bit in the future. They were supposed to cut some slack to players and stop the witch hunt. I guess he was wrong.

Anyway, OP has my sympathy and i pray for his good fight.

Wow, thanks for the RedTomax, that realy helps! I cant believe the power pools are almost as good as tier 1 attacks...Thats sick!
    Thanks again

Ya and tier 1's like flares are practically on par with blaze damage wise and they have an 80 foot range.

    That is broken. Really.
  8. Personnally i am not a native english speaker/writer and i take no offense when people comment on my writing. They just do not know and i just do not care that much about it. I am not even trying anymore to improve my english. It is what it is and i am what i am. I know i can write great stories in french and that's all that matters to me.

I actually translate my arcs in english just to make them accessible to the biggest playerbase but i never expected to deliver grammar/typo-proof content.

    Villain Empaths?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Also, as I said before, what if an Empath who has developed his abilities further ends up going mad? What if feeling everyone's emotions overwhelms the person's brain driving him/her insane? Then at the same time, the person retaliates by attacking/twisting the emotions of those around him? It is theoretically possible for an Empath to be a villain if the person is able to control the emotions of others.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe that is precisely what Pain Domination is. They are the antithesis of Empathy. IMO, fallen Empaths would become Pain Doms, as fallen Jedi become Dark Jedi.

If Castle were to add the ability for Villains to be Empaths I would be very, very disappointed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Everything is white or black in your life?

Many Arachnos followers do not see themselve as bad or evil persons at all. They are not different than the military in Paragon City. They are not all inherently Evil. An empath could just fit well in Arachnos even if her only goal would be to tend to the wounds of her comrades.

Again, there is nothing inherently good about being an empath. There is nothing inherently evil about dominating pain.

You are assigning moral values to powersets. Powersets have none. The way you use powers sorts you out as evil, or good.
Guns are not evil, people that use them might or might not be however. Simple as that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's probably the most ridiculous example of hyperbole I've seen in my entire time on these boards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, unless you are an Opus Dei servant, i have a hard time understanding why what i have written here is sooo hyperbole to your eyes. Seriously.

Honestly I think the only real deciding factor on how often people will play your arc is whether or not the current overall is a 5. I ran my newest arc with 3 friends. They all 5 starred it. The next day it had shot up to 12 ratings and still at an overall of 5. Then it went up to 14 ratings and an overall of 4. Stopped getting ratings after that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I had every intention of playing yours until I read the description and it said that it pretty much requires a team which will count me out. Thus difficulty, real or assumed, may be another thing that prevents people from doing longer arcs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. The more missions an arc have and the most often odds are that somewhere in the arc AVs or EBs will show up.

    1) I am not always playing a scrapper or a brute.

    2) Building up a team tend to lower Ticket reward ( randomly awarded ) and lenghtening the mission due to increased mobs.

    3) A mission that lasts longer than 15 minutes when playing solo is already too long imho.

    4) Wether the story is good or not is often not relevant to many players. Many players get their high in CoX by using the combat system and activating flashy powers. Many of them do not care reading at all and that does not make them stupid people or what not.

    5) Many players tend to prefer going with what they know and the custom mobs as they are right now tend to be full of bad surprises, especially when you are not playing a strong solo build. And even then, it still is often boring to fight enemies that constantly throw caltrops at you, siphon your speed and spam quicksands.

    6) Many long story arcs are simply plain bad, too challenging, have too many objectives, are using annoying maps and annoying mobs, have too much text , too many ambushes, too many AVs, finally just too much of everything and that makes them pure PITA to run. They get an auto 1 star from me.

I guess i must be one of these "like Newspaper mission" person. I like straightforward objectives and i like to get done in a timely manner without having to use multiple trays of inspirations.

    Villain Empaths?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
It makes sense. An empath is someone who can feel another's emotions. Now imagine an Empath who is completely psychotic? Feeling everyone's pain around them, getting a kick out of it, a rise out of it. So they use their powers of Empathy to twist up their opponent's emotions driving them to the brink of insanity while getting their own allies in the right kind of mindset to promote more misery.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be Apathy. The complete disregard for the emotions of others in favor of the emotions you yourself feel as a result. IMO, this is what Pain Domination should have been called.

Still, as others have said, these powers and their titles and descriptions are merely placeholders for whatever power you imagine the character actually using. Some people imagine they are using medical techniques. Others might call it the light of heaven. Still others may imagine it is a set of druidic spells.

Either way, I doubt these powersets will be proliferated cross faction, since they are basically the same set when it comes down to it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Being an Empath never ever meant acting empathically with every existing beings in the world. One is always free to choose and use her powers in the benefits of those she feels are worth it.

I definitely can see an Empath working for Arachnos and gladly taking care of her assigned soldier squad but not giving a [censored] about saving the worthless live of mere commoners.

Empaths fit just fine in Rogue Isles just as Pain Doms fits just fine in Paragon City. It is all about the context, motivations and perspectives.

    Villain Empaths?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Now again, what was the reason villains didn't get empathy ported over?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because the act of empathizing with someone else's pain is in itself a heroic act. Sure, an Empath can go bad, but they will always be empathizing with those around them, which is inherently heroic.

So, when you think about it, it still makes sense that an Empath would have to start on the good side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It does not make sense. Many villains believe they are good guys you know? Like nazis surely thought of themselve as the good guys during the WW2 back then.

All about perspectives. There is no innate good or innate evil. There are opinions. That's what relativists would claim anyway.

Edit: I think the issue here is that there never should have been a Blue and Red side in the game. Good or evil can be seen in either Paragon City or the Rogue Isles. Never made sense to split and confine ATs to one side or another.

The ATs, they all can do right or wrong. The sum of all your deeds should make you a hero or a villain. But again, doing good does not prevent one to do evil some of the time and vice versa. I always found out the Red/Blue side separation to be very artificial and done by devs for a purely gaming/mechanic purpose.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I personally think, by the way it was all worded in the release, that "switch-over" toons will not actually exist in the blue side or the red side zones. I think they will exist in the alternate reality zones. Which will make the "having to team with someone from the opposite faction" argument a not factor. Hero's won't have to side with villains and vice versa. I think once you switch sides you'll be "transported" to the alternate dimension.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that is the case then it will probably suck. What? Just another cooperative zone basically? Not interested in that. What i want is my freekin Mastermind to come in Atlas Park and undertake the real old hero contact missions. I want to do the standard hero story arcs and get all the souvenirs.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
...That's *not* stoked about Going Rogue? For me, I see less pros and more cons. Like, if defenders make their way to villains, corruptors will most likely be ignored. People will prefer Tankers to Brutes. Am I just being overly-negative?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that is hilarious. In another thread, a guy was saying exactly the contrary! He said Defenders suck and would not be wanted anymore. He also said that Brutes are better than Scrappers and Tankers.

    Go figure...

I think you guys are scared for no reason. Every ATs will keep getting played like they always have. There is always someone willing to play some AT. You guys got to understand that there are people that plays combos you would not like to play and the reverse is true.

Just wait and see what happens. You'll be surprised how things turns out.
  16. Hey, i found someone that could help me invite all my 18 chars! People on Virtue are so nice

I gave the player 20 millions for the help. I figured it was no big deal at all since he saved me 20 real bucks haha

In the end, it was easyer than i thought to find someone willing to help.
  17. I suppose a trial account would not work for this since i think they cannot join SG and invite people?

    Anyway, thanks for the answers.
  18. Heh, i just do not want to annoy someone for the invites. I have like over 16 chars to invite.

My comp is recent and i think it can handle it, i had once Fallout 3 running while having CoH in the background. Just was not sure if the game actually let two instances of same prog run on same comp.

I do not want to waste 30 minutes of another player's gaming time just to catter to my wants.

    Bane Buffs?

    [ QUOTE ]
Banes defenitely should get some defense debuff resistance

    [/ QUOTE ]

That i could agree with. Else than that, Banes are just fine. Just make sure you keep venom grenade in your build and youll destroy everything fast.

Truth be told, every VEAT as of now are towering above most other ATs in game. They are just that good, and that also include Banes. They are so versatile and have so many tools, Banes can do the job just fine.

Edit: But no harm in crying moar for a buff if you think you can manipulate devs. Good luck.

  20. Hey guys, i have been thinking lately to open a second account for a month just to be able to invite all my chars in my unique SG.

I have never done this before but is it possible to run two instances of CoX on the same computer at the same moment?

I cannot dual box, i only have one comp. So anyone knows?
  21. Me too, i keep crashing as soon as i try placing a bid on black market ( virtue ).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Are you saying there was a nerf on individual critter rewards? If so, I'm not aware of it. A warehouse mission should give as much out as it did before, unless it was giving out more than 1500 before.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be totally clear with you, yes, all mobs in MA should be giving more tickets than they are giving right now. Not saying that they were nerfed. Im saying they never gave enough from start. Now, was i clear enough for you this time?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
?? the ticket cap and increased mob dificulty should have no effect on you getting 300 tickets per mission, if you finished the mission and cleared all. The mission cap is 1500 tickets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nothing to do with ticket cap. Mobs simply are not dropping enough tickets when you do a "warehouse mission". While huge outdoor missions can still yield some profits over time, smaller maps like offices and warehouses rarely will net you more than 200 tickets. Which is too small imho.

Rikti Comms officers were maybe giving too much but now most everything gives crap ticket reward.
  24. The last nerfs have hit a little too hard MA imho.

Been doing some missions alone and with team of 8, getting most of the time a paltry 300 tickets overall.

Considering that we are getting no enhancement drops, no slavage drops and no recipe drops, reward if now on the very lowside.

300 tickets in a mission. What does it mean? It is worth about 4 SO enhancements or 4 pool A uncommon recipes. That really is not much compared to what can be earned through standard gameplay.
