Ditto, getting lots of time-outs and sporadic weird behaviour.
Given the changes that were due (yesterday) yhey could be doing behind the scenes stuff with the forums still up (like moving a backup) but it'd be an odd thing to do, even if it is the middle of the night US side.
Edit : In fact it's gotten worse over the last hour or two. Looks like it got totally reset a few minutes ago. -
Give Team Leaders a "Looking for Members" flag.
And/Or the ability to mark themselves as an "Open Team" so people can just join them themselves. -
Quote:Indeed. There's tonnes of VEATs running around Cap and Sharks since the change. It's rare that I don't join a PuG with at least one.It was a sound observation.... a year ago. The game has changed much since then, notably that V/Heats unlock at 20 now.
Which is awesome.* -

Quote:Yep, I'd go with this too. Probably Crab, Huntsman or Fort, unless the SoA enjoys being jousled around and barged out of the way by idiot henchmen. Your own henchies won't block you, but they can and will block other teammates (I hate demons so much because of this).Due to their unique varieties of Manuvers/Assault/Tactics, the Soldiers of Arachnos is most likely the best duo to an MM, especially if they decide to pick up the original Assault/Tactics as well. though you can't really go wrong.
Crabs, Forts and Huntsmen have tonnes of lovely AOE. Forts can have more control, Crabs have pets and Huntsmen tend to have the Leadership Pool Powers and other support toggles (Huntsman is basically a Bane who skips almost all of the mace attacks except for Venom Grenade and Build-Up). -
Quote:I tend to play a lot of Kins, especially /Kin Corrs (I have 5 on Guardian alone). I also don't tend to play them in a timid fashion. I'm in the middle of the herds, right beside the tank and doing my thing, because, you know, I like to get my own Fulcrum Shift from time to time. That said, what kills my buzz is when I'm doing this on a team and the leader (or other teammates) start berating me for not standing back with the rest of the squishies outside the herd. I've even been kicked from teams in the past for playing a Kin like this. I mean, come on folks. If I'm going to die, at least I'll go out with a damage-capped Inferno or something and take most of the mobs with me. And that's if I even die, because if I die it means that for some reason Transfusion is missing or for some reason I've taken it off of auto-fire.
That said, it is highly amusing at times to have someone on a team that wants SB or so to ask in team chat "Where's the frikken Kinetic?" and that teammate receiving a reply along the lines of "In here with the Tank!".
* That's the only way to play a Kinetic. I remember my Kin/Elec in the Hollows on a PuG years ago and someone said :
"Why are you running into melee? You're a healer".
Me : "No, I'm a sapper"
Them : "What does that mean?"
Tank : "It means he's my little buddy in the mosh pit"
I like when people get it.
Being called a Healer on my Plant/Emp. Do you not see the entire spawn hitting themselves and being Tentacle... erm 'loved'? I haven't even bothered healing anything for most of the mission! -
Quote:Erm, ok...Demons VS Thugs I think Demons would win. Simply because they are Demons and probably Immortal or would come back after regenerating or something.. Where as Thugs are just really tough Humans, which are not demons.. So once you kill a Thug assuming the porter thingy don't work.. He is just dead.. Unless of course he goes to hell and becomes a Demon. But then again he's now a Demon so Demons win again..
Yea so Demons VS Thugs, Demons win..
*backs away slowly*
Thugs aren't noisy, bulky cow monsters, so they win.
Demons are almost as irritating as Bots. Don't know which Dev decided to make them screech every 10 seconds but they're on My List for all the nightmares they've induced in me over the last 3 months.
*Remembers the 6 Demon MM team my Widow was on*
*Twitches sporadically* -
Had a Thugs MM last night on a PuG who had absolutely no control whatsoever over his pets. They'd always end up chasing a runner and aggroing the next spawn of Rikti while we were in the middle of the current one.
It was awesome!!
My Earth/Fire Domi (who had just hit level 26) had a ball mezzing them to a standstill as they ran towards us and we tore them to pieces.
It was like the Thugs were consumed by Scrapperlock (more likely he had them on Aggressive all the time) and meant we ran at a decent speed rather than the "herd to here", "wait for the tank" mentality on the PuG I was on before that (Wait for what tank? We're villains, we didn't bring one).
The "Wait for tank" team thankfully died a death when a Demon MM (with more skulls on him than a Lordi reunion gig) joined and spammed Local and Team Talk with a load of "Ready", "Help" etc binds. My "PuG disaster waiting to happen" senses went off so I legged it. -
Quote:"Cottage rule applies if there was nothing wrong with the power in the first place"First of all, the prea material is 1-20 so it's not an epic pool power. Secondly, I'm sure that most of everyone well agree that gravity needs a revamp, Cottage rule applies if there was nothing wrong with the power in the first place, I'm sure there is only a hand full of people who actually take the power. Though I'm jumping to no conclusions, your post is misplaced.
Huh? This makes no sense. Why would you change a power if there was nothing wrong with it?
Every power change made in the live game has adhered to the rule that it keeps some aspect of how it worked. I doubt that's going to change personally.
That said if it was a 5 second Intang which also clustered the mobs towards a spot before releasing them that'd work and still adhere to the Cottage Rule. -
Stone Tanks (or Tanks in general) who play like scrappers. For the love of god please turn around and notice the second purple boss who is tearing your Squishies faces off!!
I don't need to be babysat, but some form of awareness of what's happening with the rest of the team would be nice.
If said Tanker is also a constant "Herding to here" then it's doubly worse. -
Earth Control is, to me, a much better Ranged set than a melee one. This is because your two Patches, Quake and Gases don't give 100% mitigation straight off so things can occasionally thump you with hard hitting melee attacks. So I prefer to team Earth up with something like Fire which is also excellent from range.
I'd also skip Earth/Psi purely because Psi tends to have you running in and out of melee a lot (Psi is a real mixed bag of ranged, Cone and Melee). Also Earth is pretty End effective I've found, so Drain Psyche, while still excellent, isn't as useful as it might be with other, more End intensive sets.
Also Earth doesn't play particularly well with Power Boost, again the Patches get no boost from it. So it's only Stalagmites which benefit from it. So that's why I'd personally not try Earth/Earth.
* Plant on the other hand has the excellent Seeds which is superb at negating a spawn meaning you could get into melee range for Earth Assaults attacks. Plants 2 AOE mezzes also benefit from Power Boost.*
So personally I'd go with Plant/Earth as it'd be a good "confuse them then run in and safely melee away" set. Thematically Plant/Earth/Leviathan would work really well with Hibernate there as a panic/recovery button (Hibernating whilest Creepers, Water Spout, Fly Trap and the confused enemies do all the hard work for you). Seeds > Bile Spray would be an ok 1-2 opener as well. -
Psi Scream will mesh very well with Seeds though as a 1-2.
I'd certainly take it. Seeds > Psi Scream and then run in to Drain and melee.
You don't particularly need Spirit Tree, the amount of +Regen Drain Psyche gives you is insane anyway, Spirit Tree won't make much of a noticable difference to it. Of course if you want it for conceptual reasons then go for it, but Drain with 3 Heals in it gives massive Regen already (you can cap yourself with it if you hit enough enemies).
Telekinetic Thrust is a big hitter nowadays and worth taking if you want to be in melee. It will knock things away but it's not that big an issue IMO.
PPPs is up to you really. Domis get probably the best selection of PPPs going.
Mu has some nice powers, including a God Mode where you can actually ignore the End crash for the most part if Drain is active when it kicks in. Your toggles would drop but you'd override the No Recovery aspect of it so could quickly be back up and running. 2000% Regen + 75% resist to Smashing, Lethal and NRG (less to Fire, Cold and Neg and none to Toxic or Psi) occasionally is pretty good for a squishy. Mu also has an End Recovery power which makes Dark Consumption look like a bad joke, the best AOE attack and a Pet that can heal you.
But Soul Drain > Psi Shockwave > Dark Oblit is a lovely PBAOE combo too (ok Dark Oblit isn't PBAOE but you can use it point-blank in the middle of a spawn). You'd probably have no need of Dark Consumption though, it's a bit useless with a bad AOE and a terribly long recharge time.
Hibernate is good for any character who is capable of doing damage via pets whilest they are Hibernating up. Plant is very good at that with Seeds, Carrion Creepers and Fly Trap (and Water Spout). Bile Spray could fit well into a chain of Seeds > Psi Scream > Bile Spray, but the animation times might drive you nuts.
Mace could also be a good choice if you want to go for the S/L soft cap. PFF would also be excellent to give Drain Psyche a chance to heal you fully. Poisonous Ray is good at softening up tough targets but the low chance for knockback in Disrupter Blast could be annoying (if you took it). -
Quote:Judging by the fact most teams I've been on red-side in the last 2 months have had at least one other SOA on them it did indeed.I joined a pug last night with my lowbie blaster. Saw two, yes TWO, warshades on the team. Guess lowering the unlock level worked.
Hellooooo Softcap! -
Quote:"Miss" is a relic from i0 or i1. It means "You failed to do significant damage", that's all.Two points:
1. It says "Miss" and the system message is "but you missed." That's about as close to "you suck so you missed" as it gets.
2. Random missing in general is like introducing fumbles in a soccer game or weapon jams in UT3. Yes, these things might happen in real life, for as far as games are like real life, but they're the sort of things we DON'T WANT to happen.
"We don't want to happen"? Who is this we you talk about? Doesn't bother me in the slightest that occasionally an attack will fail to destroy a pile of books / crate or whatever.
Quote:Let me put it this way - if I can accidentally miss a clear, easy shout because-because, does that logic not also follow that I should have a chance to accidentally drop my gun? Or a chance to accidentally bump into a wall and fall down? Or a chance to accidentally twist my ankle? Or a chance to accidentally pull a muscle, suffering damage and debilitating effects? Or a chance to suffer a stroke or an aneurysm? These things happen all the time, especially under the physical and mental stress of combat, but we generally don't want to see them in our games.
This is called "logic" you say?
I think I'll stick with common sense.
Quote:And again - what part of a crate of books did a high explosive grenade miss?
I'm willing to accept that if I swipe at a low enemy he'll get lucky and stumble out of the way. I'm also willing to accpet that if fire a bullet at a car on a mayhem that occasionally it'll do insignificant damage or glance off or whatever. I'm not particularly willing to make sweeping changes to one of the fundamental mechansims of the the game to make exceptions for things like piles of books. Why bother? It's not that much of an issue to justify the amount of work and QA associated with it. -
Quote:I answered it. In the second post!So since you intentionally didn't actually answer what was being asked is there any reason at all for anybody to believe you're not full of it?
I've no idea what the rest of ye are talking about. Something about BarbieWorld Online or something?
"Barbie hits you with Baking Cookies for the Boys"
*You are baking and unable to take any action*
"Barbie hits you with Gucci Handbag"
*You take 56 points of damage and look fabulous* -

Quote:So you're saying there's no chance your bullet could glance off a metal door without doing any significant damage? You know when I fell in love with the old Teen Titans cartoon? When I saw Robin clinging to a ceiling upside down like he were the God Damn Spier-Man. He has no reason to do this. He doesn't cling to walls, he doesn't have sticky shoes, he doesn't have super powers. He was just hanging upside down on a ceiling because it looked cool. Because he's just that cool.
People keep bringing up this argument that "well there's always random chance." Maybe. But that's not cool for a fictional universe. When did Alucard screw up and miss because he sucked? If he did, I don't remember it, because he doesn't suck. Some vampires have been able to dodge his billets, sure, but that's not because he's missing through bad luck, it's because the vampires are dodging.
That's all I'm saying. You shouldn't miss an enemy unless the enemy has some skill in avoidance or deflection. I don't have a problem if most enemies did - at least it would make sense. But doors, crates and lab equipment do not have skills in evasion or deflection, or at the very least they shouldn't be. How much do I need to suck to swing at a door and MISS?
"Defense" covers both evasion and deflections as you said above. Inanimate objects should have a chance to deflect, if only to counter the fact that there's no ingame way of representing variable types of damage on objects or people. -
Quote:yeah one thing that is broken is that the alternatives that is supplied is near usless.
Two, in most games, even in WoW there is a way one way or another to get even the IO equvialent. Whether that's fighting a certain monster, or task or etc, here, it depends on some crazy price of the market and doing anything outside the market there is no gurantee at all. Some people never even seen a purple drop yet naturally and they been playing for a while. Even with Hami when they was teh elite enahancement. You could either find it off another player yes, or you could go do a hami raid or complete the top TF, STF ircc. Not anymore. There is a huge gap between the haves and the have nots. And not like all the haves been playing for ages just as just as all the have nots have not been playing for only 1 hour or a month. I've seen more powerleveled 50 billionairs then poor 50s that have not been PLed. I think there should be a cap, but of course 100k is too low. Something that is not extreme high or extreme low. Something you still have to work for but is not out of reach for the casual player. 100 million is what I previous suggested with in lieu of a place where they can go get it for a reasonable fixed price. That way if the player want to sell it off market, have at it if they can find a buyer. But if a person is not swimming in billions and billions and have the hookup like that, they can go to the store just like buying an IO. Hell they could put this store in the middle of the shard but it's an alternative. There is no competition in this market really and just like any real market with no competition you dont get prices that is better you get highly inflated prices. If there was only one meat market, then the guy can set the price of meat at say what ever he feel like that day because who else are you going to buy from? Maybe one day he feel like $1 a pound maybe the next he want a new home onthe hill and now the meat price is $1,000 and if you want meat you either buy it at that price or not at all. There are antimonopoly rules and other rules in a rea life economy for a reason any oen with a sliver of understandign of economics would know that but of course just like in RL, the guy with the power would simly tell the other guy "Hey, buy form me then sell the meat to someone else and you can be rich just like me. there is nothing wrong with the system at all and it's fine just the way it is." How many CEOs would say "hey I laid 100 folks off, maybe it's wrong to take home a 300 million dollar bonus this year even though the company was run into the ground." probably not many they probably woudl say, "the system is good and if the average joe would stop being lazy and invest wisely he can be a millionaire just like me and wont have to worried about getting fired."
There's a huge perception of a gap between haves and have-nots.
As one of the people somewhere between these two extremes I can honestly say I've never actually come across a case where someone has said "Hey, you can't be on this team. You aren't IO'd / purpled out" -
Quote:^ This.... *shrug* No biggie. (Add in the daily webcomics, DA, news reading, etc.)
Tried to log in twice in the afternoon (my afternoon), log in failed and I put 2 and 2 together.
It's slightly worrying that the Mods didn't even realise that their boards log ins would be affected by the downtime though. -
I'd stick the Achilles Heel into Fly Trap alright. Wouldn't bother with the other PROCs though really.

Quote:So, I've been toying with a couple combos on mid's (Rad/Fire, Fire/Ice, Rad/Ice, Rad/Elec) and I keep looking at the numbers on CB and Blaze. The first one says its an Extreme damage power, while Blaze is "only" High damage. However, if you compare both powers 3 slotted with 3 damage IOs the difference is huge: 264 for CB and 376,1 for Blaze.
Now, I've been playing mmorpgs long enough to know that Fire is always the most damaging element. What I don't get here is the discrepancy between both powers descriptions and its damage numbers.
Sure, CB has a stun and -def as secondary effects and Fire is supposed to do extra damage. But if you bring Bitter Ice Blast to the equation, it also does more damage as a Superior attack than CB. And Shout (Heavy dmg) does the same damage than CB.
Does anyone else feels like they should either add up a little more damage to CB or at least change the power descriptions?
Those "High", "Extreme" labels haven't made sense since they were first released. There's absolutely no point on going on what they say, they were obsolete when they were written and are a legacy of Jacks phobia of giving players actual figures, in case their fragile little minds imploded.
Real Numbers is available instead and gives you (mostly) the useful information about a power. -
Quote:If some people don't like folks who play at a breakneck speed and do their own thing in missions then it will only get worse for them blueside when Brutes appear.
And Domis, and in act any Villain AT who have been conditioned by Brutes and Domis to run with Go Faster Stripes on.
I love a good fast steamrollering team. Quite happy for the Brute/Domi/Mastermind/Whatever to jump into the next spawn if we're beating the tar out of the current one and they can handle it.
Less fond of teammates who take "doing their own thing" to ridiculous levels and run off in entirely the opposite direction to the rest of the team as if they do get out of their depth they risk dragging others into their mess (Support chars who see a teammates bars dropping and leg it to try and aid them).
Quote:This is my biggest pet peeve, especially when I'm tanking. I don't want to rush in if the rest of the team isn't ready, but I find myself hesitating for too long because nobody else seems ready. -
Quote:Yes Quinch I have to admit, the flip-side of this request is that those who DO take the time/trouble to set their Flag actually ACT as if they really ARE LFT (by responding to my polite Invite within, oh...I dunno...10 minutes of me sending it?).
I'm reluctant to criticize anyone who's actually bothering to use the Flags at all, but there's nothing more frustrating than getting all excited when you see 3 needed, level-appropriate ATs all Flagged as LFT at the top of the list, and NOT getting a response from ANY OF THEM after an Invite Tell (happened this weekend!).
*shakes head sadly* Really, then, it's just about the whole LF-Search-team formation thing needing a minor overhaul. I think it's pretty powerful and pretty useful as-is, but some tweaking and polishing would really make it shine.
I constantly set my LFT flag, maybe it's a hang over from the EU servers but I've always used it.
I'd love an overhaul to the current system though, with Team Leaders able to mark themselves as "Leaders looking for teammates", it'd make my PUGing even easier. -
Quote:Hi, is wentworths cleared occasionally?

Are you EU side perchance?
There is a 12 hour maintence period today US side. Since the Market and Mission Architect systems are part of that they are down as well, for both the US and EU sides. -
Quote:It must be a TYPO...
the normal maintenance window on the website says this:
"City of Heroes has a server maintenance outage window reserved between 12pm-2pm British Time (13H00-15H00 Central European Time) on Thursday every week. During this time, you will not be able to access the game servers.
Please note: while we are reserving this two-hour period for maintenance updates, we will not necessarily require the entire two hours and additional updates may be scheduled outside this time-period as needed. We may also perform maintenance on additional servers, such as the web servers, message boards, or login servers."
Guess there overworked with the upcoming new issue and GR.... so it must have being a typo...
I think they regurgitated the US message to the EU without thinking
What's actually happening is that all US servers are going down for 12 hours. Since the Market and Mission Architect servers are part of that cluster they will be out for the EU as well for that period.*
