AOE Immobs are a waste of End if they aren't back-up to a harder form of mez, you'd be better off not doing anything at all. All most AOE immobs is interfere with other players forms of controls like knockdowns. If you haven't got a good reason to be AOE Immobing (regardless of your AT) then you're generally better off doing something else instead.

Most Corrupters have something they can do to help themselves out, either by debuffing the enemy in question, buffing themselves, healing themselves or some form of mez. Or they could just stick to their single target attacks if they are really struggling that much, and reserve Fireball as a finishing move once the spawn has been thinned out a tad. Fire is no slouch in the single target department either. Blaming others because you cannot adjust your playstyle is just wrong.

And while you two are joustling to be in first the Fortuna might decide to open with Psi tornado, the Crab has gone with Venom Grenade whilest the Domi is busy dropping a mez patch from cover or just stunning the lot of them before running in themselves.

That's why I like Villains. Everyone has options and (hopefully) doesn't need to actually rely on one person being Mr Meatshield.

For further info re: secondaries, if you don't want redraw I'd recommend Ice or Rad. Both have pretty good AoEs which is good for Traps/ as well as reliable ST mitigation which Traps lacks.

Traps provides whole-spawn mitigation, then unload your AoEs and use Cosmic Burst/Freeze Ray to take out troublesome Lts/bosses.

Dark is also decentish (self heal is nice) but the AoEs are cones which is a little counterproductive to Traps' toebombing nature. You'd be doing a lot of hopping in and out of spawns. That said, the -tohit combined with the +def of the FFG would give you a lot of safety for toebombing with Trip Mine.
Traps/Dark might be the only combo where Dark Pit is actually useful for setting things up for Toebombing as well, rather than being an underwhelming slot-hungry monster (frankenslotting helps with that nowadays, Acc/Stun/Recharge IOs are a godsend). Especially since it can stack with your Seekers.

But I'm still leery of combining Dark with any support set which likes melee from experiences with my now-dead Dark/Kinetics corrupter (who played like a Line Dancer with all the to-and-fro, doh-see-doh). The main culprit is Nightfall, which is a pretty thin cone, so getting it to hit the maximum number of people is a lot of work and got awfully tiresome.

Traps/Ice with its PGT, Ice Storm and Trops combo is the one I could most see myself playing when GR comes along (if I ever go back to Hero ATs).

I've found that combo unnecessary on my Earth Domi. Stunning them and letting them wander around Quicksand is fine. They won't go far generally. Even the "quick stun-stagger" bug rarely crops up on him (whereas my Stone/Fire brute could induce it at will with a Tremor / Fault combo if done in that order). Only Warwolves and the like are the exception.

For a domi I've found the "ghetto hold" concept to be overrated, and a active hinderence to things like "I'll also plonk down an Earthquake for any that the AOE Stun missed, failed to mez or for when it wears off".

My Brute cannot find this "Taunt" button you are talking about.

Oh wait, I see a "Skip-this-and-take-something-Smashy-instead" power listed in my powers list. Maybe that's the one you mean?

Everyone! If everyone pulls their own weight then there's no need for a Tauntbot cluttering up the team. If I see a fellow Corrupter pull more aggro than he can handle I will try to intervene regardless of the AT I'm playing, having them upright is a benefit to me (usually, if they're completely useless and dumb then letting them die may provide a valuable lesson).I've always got options with any of my villains (Mez em, set pets on them or punch/shoot em inna head until they stop moving). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way it's more fun than being, or relying on, Taunty McMeatshield to Save the Day. I can save my own day thank you very much.

Like others I agree with the idea that a Domi opening with their AOE Immob deserves everything they get. Not one of my 3 Domis even bothers taking the waste of endurance and animation time that is the AOE Immob.

    Electric Control

    Info page is up:
    http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...c-control.html

Looks like it has an aura, pbaoe confuse at tier 8 and a pair of chain powers. The chaining knockdown sounds interesting, if its fairly quick to recharge and fire off (which I reckon it will be) it could be a staple for a Domi.

The Sleep Field sounds like Gases with a sleep. Pulsing sleeps every 5 or 6 seconds which could be handy, but the aura is going to wake them up again I'd have thought. So maybe good as an opener and controlling those you aren't actively fighting. I'd guess it'll have the same sort of recharge as Ice Patch / Earthquake (90 seconds or so?) and stick around for 30.

An Elec/thorns it'll be for me so I reckon, the aura and chaining knockdowns swings it

It does... eventually. The early levels are sucky.

Great controller though, probably one of the most tactical going (until Traps is proliferated anyway). Mainly because you have to be pretty tactical and use your surroundings or you die horribly...

Elderly guide in my siggy, not too out of date (but Primal is deffo worth a look for Grav/TA nowadays thanks to NRG Torrent).

Yep, all Epic versions are Knockdown rather than knockback, which is lovely.

Giving pets knockback is a horrible idea, they fixed Mr Lich and the Bruiser. Wish they'd do the same with Phanty.

I agree with you, Fireball is better from a pure stats PoV, it will preform better. But in terms of theme I got irked with Fire both times I tried it (on an Illusion/Storm and Grav/TA) and went with more thematic Epics in the end (Cold and Primal respectively). The Shields especially I just couldn't live with looking at.

Primal is a decent enough substitute, especially if you get the FF proc. My Grav/TA gets better milage from Power boost than an Illusionist would though.

    No, it won't.

Re-read my post. It doesn't do knockback...

Edit : Also, i'm not saying Deceive isn't great. It is. But it doesn't particularly need 6 slots. It is situational (as you appear to agree with) and I personally have never needed to slot it with more than 3 slots.

Haven't ever managed to stick a level 50 proc in there (since most of my controllers are now gated off to me since they are EU side and the Powers That Be still insist on the US / EU divide).

    Defender Nukes

*Fortunta waltzes in, laughs at the Defenders with their 6 year old concept of Nukes-with-a-crash and waves her crashless Psionic Wail at them all*

There's very little reason I can see not to make all Defender nukes crashless.

Other than the Blasters & Corrupters would probably complain. Even softening the Crash to an EMP type one (no crash, just a period of No Recovery) would make sense.

Blind's most important use is to set up Containment for Spectral Wounds. (For single target control, Deceive is actually better.) So, hold duration isn't all that important. My standard slotting for most control powers is 2 Acc, 2 Hold, 2 Rech, and that would be better than your slotting, but you could mix in some damage in place of some Hold. Team, I'd probably go with 2 Acc, 2 Rech, 1 Hold, 1 Dam. Solo, I'd consider 2 Acc, 1 Rech, 3 Damage.

Spectral Wounds? I prefer 1 Acc, 3 Dam, 2 Rech.

    Deceive gets the 2/2/2 treatment.

Glue arrow is very nice in lower levels, but as you go higher, it becomes less and less important. I think I put 2 Rech in mine.

Ice Arrow is actually a pretty poor hold power. I mainly use it to stack holds on bosses. I think I only have 4 slots in it . . . 1 Acc, 2 Hold, 1 Rech. Plus, you could move it back to fit Stamina in by 20.

I would move up Acid Arrow. It is your most important debuff arrow.

Phantasm doesn't need Recharge. He is perma and doesn't die very often.

Don't bother with Slow in Oil Slick, you need max Recharge and Damage more. If you want some extra slow, use Glue Arrow.

I'm not very clear about your reason for choosing the Primal APP. The origin Temp power has nothing to do with your APP set. I like Fire because it gives you better options . . . You can light the Slick with both Fire Blast and Fireball. I chose Aid Other and Aid Self as my last two powers . . . but that was entirely optional.
Primal is probably the most thematic to go with Illusion I find. And Power Boosted EMP Arrow is hilarious.

Primals energy blasts will happily ignite Oil Slick as well, Torrent is surprisingly good at it (and will also take a Forced Feedback PROC as it does Knockdown). The single target blast is a bit pants in Primal though, the animation is annoying I've found. You want Torrent. It's pretty excellent and the FX for it are deceptive. It's actually a fairly wide cone (wider than a lot of other cone attacks).

I've always found Deceive is great at low levels and situational at higher ones, again due to animation times. I'd go 4 slots as well. 1 acc, 2 confuse and 1 recharge, because I don't want to spent too long standing around doing the hand-waving thing.

The files will be, but things like Registry Information will not be in the new OSes registry.

So you still are much better off reinstalling everything. One handy site for all the open-source "essential" installs is :

    http://ninite.com/

Basically creates a single Master Installer for you which then downloads and auto-installs everything you've chosen. Worked really well for me when I upgraded my laptop HD & OS a few months ago with a full clean install (it also includes Steam which was handy for me as nearly all the games I play are via either Steam or Impulse so they then went and resinstalled them for me).

I'm of the opinion that whoever designed that map had in mind that one Blaster/Corruptor who says "Hey, if I get over here, I have a perfect cone into that office and *shot in the back*." When approaching that area, I start taking private bets on who'll aggro the second group.

For real hilarity, there's always the famous "Hasty Backpeddle", usually followed by bullets, grenades, and/or rocks. I've been guilty of it myself plenty of times.
I love that spot. Chances are if I'm on the team I'll be the one aggroing the second lot around the corner, on purpose. Followed by a back pedal so they'll all cluster in nice and close for some AOE goodness.

I hate the Layer Cake cave room and the CoT jail room though. I think the CoT Jail Room is the single room where I've endured the most carnage.

I love my Grav/TA but in fairness powers like Tar Patch and Freezing Rain wee all over the Acid Arrow / Disruption Field combo on their own (and they can stack).

Plus Ice Arrow is probably the worst hold in the game thanks to the animation time (better than it was though, but still pretty rubbish).

And EMP Arrows -Regen lasts for 15 second. Which isn't much use. As an anti AV power it's a joke.

I like TA, but it still needs love. It's pretty much the weakest vs AVs debuffing set going and things like the Oil Slick bug can make it hideous on any pet-heavy teams.

A couple of quick questions on NW.
I hear people say how easy it is to softcap defence, how exactly is this being done? I can see a few powers that add defence but the numbers are pretty low. Also I've had a quick look at the powers and can't see any DDR.
There's a wee bit of DDR in Foresight, but that's your lot. Widows do have a weakness to cascading defense failures (gotta have something, right?).

Slotted up CT : Defensive, TT : Maneuvers, Foresight, Mind Link (which I have very close to perma now thanks to Frankenslotting with Def/Recharge along with Mental Training and Hasten), Surpressed Mask Presence and 1 slotted Combat Jumping along with a Steadfast Unique which I got as a lucky drop has me at 44.8% to Ranged and AOE and something like 52% to melee when Mind Link is up.

I think that's the figures anyway, I can check Combat Numbers later and give you the full breakdown.

Edit : I think I've one or two Defense Set bonuses as well, but they're from 3 slotting a cheap mid-level set into my attacks so nothing too tricky involved. My Fort/Widow is only level 37 so it's pretty cheap and easy to do.

Soloing AVs is a minority sport, despite what one might think from reading the exploits of those lunatics on the scrapper forum (*waves at the lunatics*)

Regardless of how you think it should be used if it isn't affecting Run Speed then it's certainly a bug. There are several reasons I can think of to slot it for -Slow from the top of my head. Keeping groups within Ice Storm or close to Hot Feet for example.

If you're just using it when AVs show up you're also using it wrong IMO. It's good for a number of things and chances are you're going to use it to slow groups to a crawl more than you are to floor an AVs regen.

    traps/??

Personally (and it may well be a combo I do GR with) I'd go either Sonic or Ice.

Sonic on a Defender is nice, my Dark/Sonic defender could solo and was excellent on teams focus-firing on a tough enemy alongside any damage doer. The lack of AOE does grate a bit though.

Ice is a nice melange of single target, mez and AOE (some of which uses the blaster versions).

Traps/Dark/Power would be interesting too though, Power Build Up might make Dark Pit worthwhile and FFG + the -ToHit from Dark + Force of Nature would make you pretty godly backed up with the heal from Drain Life.

Damn, now you've confused me. I was pretty sure I was going Traps/Ice but now I wanna try Traps/Dark myself.

  22. I think a fair chunk of my villains will just go up one step, to Rogue or whatever they're called so that they can enter Paragon and join missions there. Is this correct or does a dual build have to be powers from the same branch?
It's great being able to switch between the two.

I join a PuG. If they're mostly Corruptors and Domis I go with the NW, knowing that she's nearly always softcapped to almost everything (with very little in the way of Set Bonuses, I got lucky with a Steadfast Unique drop) and can thus take alphas as needed.

The PuG has a few stalkers, Brutes and/or MMs (I hate wading through pets to get to the enemy), or if we're fighting something like Carnies, then I go Fort and bring still-decent defenses and lashings of AOE to the party.

Either way I'm leveling both builds as I go. Makes leveling more fun too, you get 2 builds to pick powers and allocate for when you ding.

My Widow is the only character I've played where I not only use the Dual builds on a daily basis (or hourly if I'm feeling fickle) but where I wish I'd one or two more available, as I'd love to try out an AOE Melee Fort build as well.
  25. One code per day and half of them most people will already have?

I dunno, personally I'd have stuck to Costume Power codes (since people can't just buy them) and given away about 10 a day.

Some sort of "Where's Wally" type forum game where a Mod posts into a thread (or ninja-edits someones recent post to pop one in) and puts in a clicky image of the Cossie in question (so a picture of a Carnie pops up in a thread somewhere and clicking on it reveals the code which needs to be applied).

Playing Hunt the Carnies throughout the Forum would be more fun than watching Facebook or Twitter along with 100s of other people and desperately scrambling to get your prize.
