Quote:What? Have you ever actually WATCHED a motorcycle race???I only care in the same way I'd care if the Tour de France replaced bicycles with motorcycles. It kinda removes the skill.
Here's the Isle of Man TT, held annually in Britain annually and where fatalities regularly occur due to accidents. It's nuts and certainly requires skill. -
Seriously? You guys give a damn about the sanctity of the Modern Pentathlon?
It's basically "Posh teenage girl" activities dressed up as a sport. -
Quote:Erm, you don't need to go blueside do you? You'll get the APPs at 41 as a villain anyway.(Now that I've posted in the right place.....) Muppet
Hello fellow Controllers
It has been some years since I played a Controller, but have had some experience in the past so not a complete novice.
Now that GR is live, I took the advice of a player called TameDragon and started levelling a ill/rad (having never tried it before.) It didn't take long for me to completely fall in love with the power sets and the playing style ill/rad creates, and am now pursing level 30 with relish having left praetoria (or is that lagtoria) and headed into CoX.
So while there has been 'downtime' in the past week I took to the forums to find out more about this type.
I have to say reading Local Man's Guide was most definitely one of the best guide's I have read. Sod the fact its long, it covers everything you need to know, from you beginning with the power sets right up to you being able to second guess you entire teams next target/tactic before they have even decided them selves!
So thank you. It certainly helped me out immensely!
With levelling proceeding nicely, my mind is starting to turn towards the thought of builds and how to get the very best from and for this character.
I will be the first to put my hand up and say 'I'm terrible at builds' but I understand how Mids works and how it shows its results, and have been looking closely at some of the builds that have been posted on the Controllers forum here.
And there in lies my problem. Well problems.
Problem No. 1, is that I have absolutely no idea which build to choose from the numerous posted within this section. They all look good to me without sounding like I'm brown nosing.
And
Problem No. 2, all the builds seem to follow the same path and show Ancillary Powers from blue side (for example Fire/Cold Mastery.)
I'm a villain! So what would people suggest as a substitute from the 4 Patrons red side provide?
Oh, and please, no silly comments about 'level to 50 then switch to blue side get the Fire mastery blah blah.' The only reason I'll go blue side is to badge hunt. I'm a loyal reddie!
Advice and if you can spare the time, a build/s gladly excepted and appreciated on this matter. As I'll read every and all replies.
Thank you.
Chappers.
Stinky heroes do need to come redside if they fancy one of the PPPs though (since you need to run an arc to get access to them). -

Quote:GAAAH. You're just making my isolation from him even worse. Every other Brute I played was good, but he's the one I plotted on and schemed for before creating and was The One on paper in terms of awesomeness.Quote:
Stone/Fire was a horrific experience I found. The End costs were the most horrific thing of any character I've ever played.
I do wish I could try him out now with the new changes though, Fury + Build-Up + Fiery Embrace + Seismic Smash and the hammers. Yum. Damn you Great Divide, I don't want to be spending x2 subscriptions to access all my characters.
I've currently moved onto a Broadsword/Fire scrapper, in between other alts, but he's still a lowbie. -
Quote:^Thirding this. I made the mistake of listening to Silas's advice about Fire/Dark corrupters (even though I already have a pair of Dark Miasma characters) and now I'm having stupid amounts of fun in Praetoria because of them*^ Seconding this. Healing isn't as important in this game as it is in others. Sure, it's helpful but other sources of mitigation/prevention should come first. All of the sets known for 'healing' also have substantial ways to prevent that damage in the first place. Empathy has Fortitude, Thermal has the res shields and Pain has WoP.
Buffing/debuffing/blasting > healing
Dark or Rad are both very powerful all-round sets. Good AoE debuffs for normal spawns but very capable of handling the AVs/EBs you'll face with a team. They also both have the advantage of getting their core powers early, unlike /Pain which is very, very team-focused until much later on. Pain also is a fairly weak soloer, unlike Dark or Rad.
If you're only ever going to be teaming with the character going a more support heavy set like Pain or Thermal isn't a big deal, but for such a small team I think you'd be better off with a more well-rounded support set.
The tohit check on the Dark heal really isn't a big deal, more than made up for by how powerful of a heal it is, the fact it's a great debuff and is AoE. Slot for decent acc like you would any attack, rest for heal/end/rech.
O2 boosts heal is...well, fairly small. It's a nice addition to the rest of the power that Storm brings to the table, but if someone is taking a lot of damage or in the red its going to take quite a few O2s to get them back up.
I've got guides for all the Corr secondaries (notably Rad and Dark as I've talked about above) in my sig if you want to take a look.
The combination is ridiculous. Either everything is missing you or everything is dead. Either way you don't need to rely on green numbers much and when you do Twilight Grasp gives huge ones back (and even if the worst happens and the other 3 die you can always drag their souls screeching back via Howling Twilight)
(*Damn you Silas. *shakes fist*) -
Quote:I was glad of this sort of bug last night. Was doing my Morality mission and mowed down the end boss without pause (hey, my crashless nuke was charged, what was I supposed to do, I can't resist the shiney, candy-like button) and the corpse said "Hold, talk to me".Then it should have said Mission Failed. Obviously bugged and it's good you provided feedback but please post in the technical issues and bugs section.
Ooops, I can't because I just brutally killed you. The correct thing to do would have been to do Mission Failed and dump me back into the Rogue Islands for my ruthlessness but I'm glad it didn't. -
Quote:lol. That's pretty cool actually.I got a welcoming committee. I came out in the middle of a Rikti Invasion, and emerged from the warehouse literally two feet away from the sad end of a Rikti Dropship's main gun. Needless to say it waved hi back very vigorously.
"Welcome to the warzone. There's no Emperor Cole protecting / repressing you here citizen" -
Given that I was voted as "Person most likely to go off the deep end and do a 'Falling Down'" by my friends I guess I'd have to be a Vigilante. Although chances are I'd use my powers against the terminally dim and annoying.
It's probably best if I'm kept away from Super Powers, unless they're exceptionally trivial and harmless : "The power to conjure small helpless animals but not control them in any way" for example should be fine.
"Eat Vole evil-doer... No, wait. Not that way you stupid mammal, this way, attack him..." -
Quote:Knockback is fine. Misuse of knockback isn'tAn easy majority of the time the presence of KB dramatically reduces the effectiveness of everybody on the team. On almost every team I have joined by telling the KBer to stop doing so our kill speed went up noticably.
Many power sets rely on area effect.
Electric Control is just one of them with Static Field, Conductive Aura and the Chains.
Radiation Emission has two anchored AoE debuffs, I assure you, you are slowing down the team by knocking the anchors away or knocking enemies en-mass out of thier effect.
There are numerous ground fields that dramatically affect the ease of defeating enemies: Quicksand, Earthquake, Tar Patch, Ice Slick, Freezing Rain, Sleet, Caltrops, Oil Slick Arrow and I'm probably missing a few.
Everybody loves Fire Blasters, I know I do, but a fire blaster loses a lot of effectiveness when half the enemy pack is knocked away. Fire Blasters are far from the only AoE attackers too.
Knockback is simply put the worst kind of damage mitigation. It extends the life of enemies far more than it extends the life of the player team.
It's not difficult to leverage knockback correctly as either a "Naughty enemy, back into the Killzone you go" or as a knockdown tool by using either Hover or a handy obstacle/wall.
That said Elec/Storm isn't a combo I'd like to try. The PBAOE End Drain aura doesn't mesh well with the strengths of Storm (say unlike Grav or Illusion where you're happy to stay at range and herdicane things into a Freezing Rain killzone). -
Quote:The answer is "mostly no". For the first blast you are indeed the caster, so the first impact will have a chance to PROC for you.Think I found my answer... since pseudopets are summoned, the answer is no; alas, no overpowered power pick.
But after that it works as you say, so really it's as useful as sticking them into your single target hold or immob (ie "not very" in the case of the two PROCs you mention). -
Quote:Stone/Fire was a horrific experience I found. The End costs were the most horrific thing of any character I've ever played.Hmmm, stone melee with all that mitigation from knocks and stuns and a hold or katana with all that mitigation from divine avalanche.
Perfect for FA and its abject lack of mitigation!
I do wish I could try him out now with the new changes though, Fury + Build-Up + Fiery Embrace + Seismic Smash and the hammers. Yum. Damn you Great Divide, I don't want to be spending x2 subscriptions to access all my characters. -
Quote:Freedom is only at the top of your list because it's the last Server you picked.I know there is a transfer but I'm looking for other options. Here's my problem over the past 2 weeks. Freedom and Virtue have been fully loaded with players. I've experienced freezes, disconnects, lag, etc. I'm tired of this. I just want to be able to play. NCSOFT refuses to move the Freedom server down on the list to solve this problem. Everyone new to game choses Freedom because it's first on the list.
Is this option possible? Allow me to put my character on all servers, for a fee or not, so I can select a server based on moderate usage to play my character(s). This will allow me to play with whoever whenever I want to.
Usually Freedom is actually at the bottom of the list, along with Virtue because nowadays the servers are arranged by [Last one you were on] followed by lowest to highest population.
There is currently no way to pick which server you want to use for any character, you have to explicitly transfer them there. I think the free transfers are still running though. -
Bugs
3 Worker types (weak ranged toxic damage with one buffer / healer as the third)
2 Soldiers (lethal melee with toxic DoT)
1 Queen (Support via buffs and control)
Claws / Spines style personal attacks (without the all-over Spine effect of Spines or Thorns, more like Widow attacks) and a Summon Swarm style, maybe something like a Carrion Creepers / Gang War combination where small bugs pop out of defeated corpses and follow you about for a wee while.
SKREEEEEE!! -

Quote:With any luck my Fort/Widow will be blue-side this evening as a rogue.Hah, my Night Widow is proud of her heritage and I rarely use her non-Arachnos costumes, so now you'll have to see a full blown Night Widow in official Archnos uniform running all over Paragon City.
I assume the heroes might make a comment or two. Until they get Mind Linked.
See? Crime DOES pay!
She won't be in her Arachnos garb though, a visit to Serge for a new cossie will be the first thing she does to celebrate. -

Quote:Still? Since i18?As Carnifax pointed out, I am talking about controller pets who run from friendly fire. My fire controller teamed with a friends controller (yes, I have several different controllers) who had Phantom Army/Trick Arrow. He'd lay down an oil slick patch and my fire cages would set that on fire. His phantom army and my imps would run out of it and pretty much refused to go back till it dissipated.
Hope that explains it better.
That was supposedly fixed in i18 I thought (but it is Oil Slick Arrow, the daddy of all buggy powers). -
Quote:I think the OP is saying that enemy Burn Patches still make his pets flee in terror and he'd like the same changes that were made to Burn for the players should be also made to NPC characters like Scrapyarders etc so that his pets don't do the "AAAAAAH. I'M AFLAME" thingUmmm, Fire control doesn't have burn, it has bonfire, which doesn't have fear, but KB, which, while it is annoying, I think I do understand is supposed to both give it an area denial ability as well as some level of balance.
My own fire controller is a Fire/TA controller, so meaning she lays down fire cages, heavy res debuffs, and eventually her bonfire's going to be stacked with lit oil slick arrow, and it will doubtfully be very pretty.
While I want to /unsign this on principle of balance, it would be nice to not need to remember laying down the fire cages first and constantly have to reapply them for full effect.
I shall remain neutral on this. -
Quote:Does he already have it on him? If so it's working as intended, it cannot be reapplied until the first one wears off now, since i18 (handy on teams).I am trying to buff my friend with Mystic Fortune, and can't. I can use my Aid Other on him, but not Mystic Fortune. I'm a hero, he's a vigilante, but that shouldn't make a difference.
Something I'm missing here?
If not it's a bug. Does he have the Mutant self-buff on him, that could be the bug if the system thinks they are the same buff. -
Claws/Elec looks great and works well. I loved mine, she was a great energiser bunny. No real weak points and excellent AOE from level 6. She's not a Top End "I'm gonna farm +4x8" build but she was a hell of a lot of fun, right from the off.
Makes mincemeat of Carnies and laughs at Mu, two enemy types my other Brutes (Dark/WP and Stone/Fire) despise.
My reservation with Claws/Fire would be the squishyness and the holes Fire has (knockback, End Drains & Psi). Claws isn't the best mitigating set going so it could be a struggle at times. The damage would be excellent though. -
Quote:I just started trying to troubleshoot my constantly being logged out of the forums and found that on one PC at home my browser is redirected to coh103.gtm.cityofheroes.com, no matter what browser I use. On my other PC, a laptop, I am allowed to go right to boards.cityofheroes.com without seeing that odd URL at all. What gives? On the PC with the coh103* thing, I've cleared cookies, flushed DNS cache, and sprinkled fresh chicken innards on a sand table to see what is augured thereby, with no results.
Thats the temp address the boards flicked to about 2 weeks ago. No idea why. It was never explained by a rename. Our community mode have gotten rubbish at explaining what on earth is happening with regards to the web stuff.
I would probably advise everyone to use boards.cityofheroes.com from now rather than other domain names and Stevie that sorts you out.
if you continue to have issues try it in a different browser like Opera just to see what happens there, should help to narrow things down. -
Would you please stop cross posting questions across the various boards.
Spam is bad, mmmkay. -
Oh, chances are it could be something funky that the forum software does with the "referer" request header. If your Work browser sends that request header with every request the Forum software may be picking it up and using it to redirect whereas you might have it switched off for the Home PC.
It's silly for software to be relying on it but that could be it.
Edit : Quick googling finds This page which will tell you if it's on or off for your browser.
