The person who had mine was very nice and released it for me yesterday without any issues at all after a brief conversation (a time-lagged one because we were never on at the same times). So now I have Carnifax on Exalted.
Thank you again Sir or Madam. Tis greatly appreciated. -
Quote:I miss having a single target heal, and the long recharges on the AoE heals can be a bother compared to traditional sets. Its -regen also isn't as impressive as sets like Rad or Dark.
It's a good set, but not without its downsides. It's not the perfect set.
It sounds moronic as well. I've given up on mine basically. All the woooOOOOing and twangs and tweets and whatnot just sounded too silly. -
Quote:The animation is subtle. Since my toon "Black-Ink" colored all of her powers black, I think the main issue is that the animation is subtle. So subtle that people don't actually think Im doing anything, even though Im puking gunk at enemies and debuffing. It could be also how I have it slotted.
This is why I never say anything other than "Good job all" usually, because saying "Great Heals" or "Excellent damage" is just silly if there's a few debuffers or buffers on the team.
The only time I comment otherwise is if I notice something ridiculous in my Combat Attributes, then I'll say things like "Woo! I'm at the Resistance Cap" or "Hey, my defense is 150" (that happened with my Fort and a Vengie casting bubbler on the team) -
Quote:Let's presume for a moment that I'm already not fond of Psychic Scream. If I go fire/psi/fire with a build that gets around 90% recharge + hasten, you think I can live with just fireball + PSW + Rain of Fire as my AOE damage output?
Sure. Psi Scream is a nuisance of a power, especially for a build that likes to be in close to use it's PBAOEs like Fire/Psi. You're better off dropping it IMO and thus streamlining your playstyle.
Spring Attack might be a worthy replacement / filler though. -
1) Controller
2) Domi
3) Warshade
4-6) Corrupter, MM, Defender (hard to pick one over the other)
7 ) Fort/Widow (she counts as one as she's always been a Dual Build)
8) Brute
9+) ...everything else.
But it really depends, I'm hella-enjoying a Traps/Beam defender at the mo, far more than my i21 Corruptor or Controller alts (I've discovered I just don't like Time). -
Quote:And almost everyone here (except SamNow where did the floating coin touch you?
Seriously, we're now complaining about a feature that telling new players "Hey Story Arc RIGHT HERE" as bad thing? You realize this is staple kind of thing of MMOs, something that people expect and would be criticized if it was absent when this game goes F2P.) agrees with you. Want we want is a way to switch them off if they want because they're ugly, immersion breaking and unneeded.
This sort of option should be factored in when UI changes are made to the game (ditto with the stupid floating buttons on the UI, why can't I right-click and select "Remove from screen" instead of having to dig through options).
This sort of UI stuff isn't rocket science, but Paragon Studios are woefully bad at it (see The Store for more examples of rough-and-ready UI design). -
Quote:Which makes me kind of sad, though I knew it was coming, because issue 21 needs a LOT of fixes. A lot. I almost feel bad for anyone picking up the game to play for free tomorrow because they're walking into a broken, buggy mess.
Like what? I haven't come across too many bugs at all with this release. We had a Lost getting wall-embedded during a sewer run yesterday, but that's been happening since day 1.
Other than that and the fact the Wisp aura is missing I can't actually say I ran into any bugs at all, which is pretty good. -
Off the top of my head Warshades seem to get some use from this. They could do Eclipse > Mire > AOE > Nuke > Pop a Blue > Stygian Circle > Raise Fluffy > Burnout > Raise another fluffy and change into the next spawn ready for another Mire-nuke combo.

Quote:I've been playing 7 years now. None of my builds are particularly "top tier" (my Plant/Emp has some nice IOs but none that were too expensive and all were funded by running some tips and doing the 5 Random Rolls thing). She also soloed Ramiels arc at even level, mostly through a lot of running backwards and pet-tanking of the EBs.It seems like the only discussions on AT builds and play strategies to be found on these forums are relevant to power gamers who are intimately familiar with "the numbers" and have seemingly unlimited access to every IO in the game, no matter how rare or expensive. Am I the only casual player who also isn't a complete newbie?
How do you guys afford to fill up an entire L50 (+1) character with the rarest IOs in the game? How does one do this without farming or spending three years playing the same toon every day? I mean, farming is a metagame practice that I find somewhat puzzling. Farming itself isn't really fun, is it? It is something you do, not for its own sake, but because it is the only way to accumulate the insane amounts of influence necessary to create these ridiculous builds with all those IOs. And yet this has become so common, or so it seems from the working assumptions of threads on builds on the forums, that things like IOs and set bonuses can't be regarded as just "influence sinks" intended to bring equillibrium to the in-game economy. They are now part of the unwritten Standards for End Game Play.
So how are casual gamers expected to participate at what has become the new Standards for End Game Play without farming? When I join teams with my old L50s, which pre-date the Incarnate system, I am self-conscious about the fact that I might get booted for being less than half as effective as everyone else who seems to have full sets of "purple" IOs (or whatever), top-tier Incarnate powers, and so on. I found WoW to be a dreadful experience because keeping up with the requirements of "end game play" was like a second full time job. Prior to the Invention System, COH had always felt like an MMO that had escaped that trap. I'm not so sure it is like that anymore.
Is there still room in this game for casual players who want to experience the max-level content, but who don't want to turn farming into another life's career just to obtain the necessary IOs to be useful on a team nowadays?
On the boards you get a skewed sense of what people are doing, in many cases you are seeing peoples "ultimate" builds, the ones they are aiming for, not what they are actually running. In game I've never come across anyone saying "You aren't slotted well enough. Go away" to any of my builds. -
The person who has Carnifax has contacted me and seems happy to release it for me without issue. Only problem is getting a time both of us are on. There's been no talk of payments or any such silliness, I think they just liked the sound of the name but aren't overly attached to it and are happy to free it up.
Hopefully later on they'll be around and about and we can get it done. -
Quote:Well, then they wouldn't be SOs, now would they? They'd just be... "Os"
I still do, memories of days when I was scraping for every influence and a costume contest win was 10k still in my mind. These days I have billions of influence but I'm like my grandparents who lived through the Depression and spent the rest of their days with the refrigerator light bulb unscrewed to save money.
Erm, they knew it goes off when the fridge is closed, right? -
Quote:I wouldn't count on it staying that way, once the Name land-rush is over I suspect a lot of players will migrate back to their "home" servers. While I don't doubt that Exalted will remain a popular server, having 5+ Atlas instances isn't likely to be a common occurrence in a few weeks time
There were 9 last night when I was fiddling with a Traps/Beam defender. -

Quote:I don't think anything needs to be removed. What needs to happen is for all enhancement stores to buy all enhancements at the same value, and for those buy-only vendors in the Shadow Shard and Croatoa to stop buying at a tenfold ripoff. Once all stores buy for the same amount, there will be no runaround. This is already true for stores in the Rikti War Zone and Cimerora, there's no reason it can't be true for all stores.
What also needs to happen is enhancement names cleanup. Leave their graphics as they are, but call them something like Mutation: Damage Increase or Science: Stun/Disorient/Something Duration Increase. Oh, and speaking of "something," take the time to standardise enhancement aspect names. I don't know under what logic "entangle" equals "slow," but please pick one name and stick to it.
I don't really see need for more to happen with enhancements.
Does anyone still worry about the fact they could run 1.5 miles to the Mutant Shop in order to sell those two SOs for slightly more? -
Quote:This is true, and if whomever has Carnifax is playing them and having a ball (hopefully as an Illusion/Time controller or something) then more power too them.I should point out for the protocol that having a name on the forums or a global name in-game does not entitle you to having that name available to you for your characters on every server you try to log onto. Other people making characters named after you is also not a violation of any rule I'm aware of. The only names any of us have any claim on are names we already hold.
No-one but me can be "Samuel_Tow" here on the forums, though I suppose is someone really hated himself, he could be "Samuel Tow." I have a Samuel Tow on Victory that no-one's ever going to take from me since I don't plan to delete the character ever, but if someone wants it on another server and gets it before me, I really have no say in the matter.
At the same time there's nothing wrong with politely asking the person with the name if they are willing to give it up for you if it means a lot to you. -
Carnifax got nabbed too. I blame NCSoft & Paragon Studios mostly for finally getting i21 working long after my bedtime.
It'd be nice to have back but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I hope the person who took it is using it though, I might PM them later and ask if they'd considering releasing it for me. -
Quote:It's the unnecessarily exotic names that get me. Having to keep right-clicking on everything in stores to find out which SO or DO I am actually looking at is quite frustrating. I think it would help if each one had a subtitle, e.g:
Mercurial Theorem (Recharge Speed)
And yes, I have that one memorized, but like Sherlock Holmes there is only so much room in my brain to put stuff, and learning new things pushes old things out... which is my excuse for forgetting birthdays, anniversaries etc
Well they used to display the info box on rollover, which made things much easier. But that featured got eaten by the Bug Monster at some point and never recovered.
Also : Yes. Get rid of TOs, they're useless. DO's from level 1 up and SOs at level 17 (level 20 ones) please. -
Wait what? How do you get these then?
If I can find them of course I'm going to use them. They're not really representing a "step down at 22" or whatever since they're not more powerful than SOs. Instead they represent "Less of a dramatic step up" at 22, which is fine with me.
The jumps at 12 and 22 have always irked me. I've really noticed it coming into Steel Canyon at level 10, for 2 levels it's a complete slog since the enemies are built to be fought with DOs. Ditto at level 20 when you go into Talos and are "underpowered" for 2 levels. -
Quote:Um Snakes are poisonous.
They can't venom you, they can poison you. The term Poisonous is derived from the verb: to Poison, not the noun.
They poison you with venom, they don't venom you with venom.
Nope, QI disagrees with you. There are two poisonous snakes in the world : IE if you ate them you would be poisoned, that's what poisonous means.
Others have a venomous bite. They inject a toxin into you. That's what venomous means, the creature can inject a toxic venom into you. Bees and wasps are venomous, not poisonous.
If you disagree take it up with Stephen Fry. -
Quote:I've been complaining about the LOD being busted in new zones since the GR beta but I want to raise this one bit specifically because it's driving me _mad_ now it's all over Atlas as well
The LOD transition for the new Praetorian trees (used in the new AP) goes like this:
Sprite tree
Geometry trunk pops in
Sprite tree disappears (the leafy bulk of the tree disappears)
Geometry for the foliage pops in
This results in the trees flashing every time you pass a LOD level and it's _hugely_ distracting
Yep, I despised this about Praetoria as well and was dismayed to see it has spread to Atlas.
I hate the look of it, makes the game look cheap and amaturish. Does it happen to everyone or just those of us on low GFX settings? -
Quote:Auras ARE costume pieces. It is NOT unreasonable to assume they'll be included.
Agreed. Especially considering there's what, just 3 of them in the Cyborg Booster. It's pretty reasonable to suppose that something which describe itself as a costume pack would include everything from the old Booster which was in the Costume Creator (ie the auras too), especially given any lack of clarification in the Products Description. -
Quote:Time Manipulation is new, shiny, and has some fun toys. However, I think it is just TOO powerful! Time can:
-heal
-debuff regen
-get a 4 mag hold that can also hinder enemy healing
-lay out a hold patch like Volcanic Gasses that also slows (but doesn't have a 50 mag fear or do dmg)
-perma-buff defense and to-hit on allies and self
-increase recovery
-improve recharge with two powers
-buff damage
-debuff damage
-debuff to-hit
-buff regen
-debuff resistance and defense with one power
What Time does NOT do is increase resistance, offer mez protection/mez recovery, or rez allies. Now, the only powers that I have a problem with are Time Stop (the hold) used in conjunction with Time Crawl, Distortion Field being a placed hold patch that slows, and the BIGGEST offender: Slowed Response!!!
Ok, Slowed Response. What do I have against it? It is a tier 8 power in Time Manipulation. Thermal Radiation has Melt Armor, which is a tier 9 power. When comparing the two, Slowed Response has a considerably larger radius (25ft vs 15ft), slightly longer range (80ft vs 70ft), uses less endurance, and has the potential to debuff by more with Time Crawl. Slowed Response lasts for 30 seconds and recharges in 1m 30s. Melt Armor lasts for 40s (the only thing going for it compared to Slowed Response) and recharges in 2m 30s.
Being a therm, I would MUCH rather have the 30s duration with 1m 30s recharge and a radius of 25ft! I think most enemies debuffed by that much won't even last the 30 seconds, so why do we need 40s on Melt Armor?
Basically, my biggest beef with Time Manipulation is that I feel that its tier 8 Slowed Response is superior to Thermal Radiation's tier 9 Melt Armor. Does anyone else out there feel the same way about those two powers?
Compare Slowed Response to Freezing Rain or Sleet.
I'm pretty sure the "hold patch like Volcanic Gasses that also slows" isn't right either. It's a Slow and Recharge patch which has a chance to hold only those affected by Time Crawl, isn't it? -
Quote:Yep. Much as I hate bits of the new Market Interface (it looks like Windows XP and isn't particularly friendly to search) I love the interaction of the Cossie Creator with it.I'm happy to confirm that I was right all along: One major stumbling block keeping people from caring about unlockable costumes is their inability to plan for them before they use them. Letting people see how cool their character would look with a new costume piece (in this case a purchasable one) is a much better way to get people to care and decide to commit.
This was a very, very, VERY clever move.
Was making a Female Steampunk-ish Ice/Time Corruptor yesterday and flicking through the jackets and the Female Tuxedo worked perfectly, so a few quick clicks and it was mine! -
How does Time Crawl interact with these two:
Quote:Distortion Field (T5)
Slows all enemies instead and gives a chance to hold on Time Crawled enemies. The slow effects dramatically reduces incoming damage on large groups entering the field. Definitly a great power and should be used when possible.
For Distortion Field what is the change for the hold.
Quote:Time Stop (T6)
A single target hold. It's stronger when used on enemies with Time Crawl. Not much I can really say, its a Hold
For Time Stop does it buff the length or the mag of the hold? Does it also increase the -regen debuff?
