    * Me too. We had so much fun in a 5 man team we ran it again with a different leader. First was with a Widow, then a MM. People were a little worried when I suggested 8 again for the Necro/Dark MM run, but my Ice/Psi domi said "Doesn't make a difference, they're all getting AOE Held & then Ice Patched anyway". Nice of those flawed waves to show up beforehand and get me to Domination.

No possible way I could do it solo though, I think my Dark/WP Brute would be the only character I'd have who might have a chance at it.

Im already having issues trying to get drivers for my netgear wg511v2 adapter, but im hoping WINE will install the windows version.

Dual boot doesn't affect runtime speeds at all (assuming you've got it done right in terms of swap space partitions etc).

To get your Wireless working can be a bit of a pain in Ubuntu, this might help. There's a post in the second page with step-by-step instructions. Basically you don't rely on WINE, instead you use the ndiswrapper to wrap the Windows Drivers for the card so Linux can use them if there aren't any native drivers available.

I'd recommend test-driving Mint as well though and seeing if that comes bundled with a native driver.

Also speed wise is there likely to be any effects? (like vistas slowdown for instance)

    * Linux will not natively run ANY application designed for Windows. To run games you'd have to run them via a process called WINE, or pay for Cedega to basically do the same (they run a derivative of WINE which is configured for many games). Ditto for any other application you use currently, if there is not a Linux version of it chances are you'll have to either use a Linux substitute or try running it via WINE.

Personally if I were you I'd try it before committing. Any Linux distrib will come as a Live CD which lets you boot into it from the CD and try it before installing. I've found Linux Mint better than Ubuntu in terms of hardware support. Mint is based on Ubuntu but with more hardware and codex support.

I run a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Mint, Win7 for games etc, Mint for code and work stuff.

Will not make much difference but at least a few will do it.

From US to EU?? What would the point of that be?

Certainly EU numbers will go back up when GR hits. Personally I've no idea how sustained that increase will be and don't particularly fancy gambling 30 quid on it.

Cool, I'll try the d: so and see if that works.

    Wretched damn thing.
  8. I'm on the US servers, Virtue as well. My experiences basically mirror yours. Started on Defiant, moved to Union (and the great Art of War SG too) when the pop difference between them became big and moved US side when I came back after a wee break after Xmas. (I swear I'm not stalking you. Maybe you're stalking me!!)

I know at least one other person has done the same too.

My global is @Carnifax, feel free to add me as a Global friend and a shout if you ever fancy a team, I've mostly been red-side so far.
  9. A system which would work for the EU users and let them send things across the pond?

    Don't be silly.

Your only option is the good old Market Method

I'll try it on my d: (the old hard disk, now a FAT32 formatted data drive for use on both OSes) and see if that works. Since it's Test anyway it doesn't really matter that it's on the lesser disk in the laptop.

I've just added another based on yesterdays SoA team, which is basically the evolution of Scrapperlock on a fledgling team.
  12. Since I just got send here by Dechs I'll post about the glory that is a level 8 (starting off) SoA team I was on yesterday.

Well actually 7 SoAs and one Demon MM. The Leader was an SoA and seemed to be favouring them over the nubile whip-ladies.

    * First mish was a little ropey to be honest. All around level 9 and only 2 of us seemed to have our defensive toggles. So a fair bit of pulling, running around and hoping the Demon/Dark MM beside us would notice we were in the red and about to be planted by a purple Caliban. Got through it though.

Next mission after everone levels up and the Demon/Dark MM who was a bit useless gets replaced by a Demon/Thermal who seems to know what they're doing, suddenly we're all getting hit a lot less, everyone is spamming attacks and scrapperlock begins. A wave of gun toting bad-***** and dart firing, claw wielding dervishes stomps all over the enemies.

Third mish, I realise I forgot to level and go and do so. Three times! So Combat Jumping and Spin. Off we go to Kings to rob the bank. *I decided to monitor my defenses : 42% melee defense, 35% for the others. Now we're at total scrapperlock levels, everyone unleashing cones on everything and anything and us ladies running in to melee range to stab and spin everything. The Hero at the end decided to turn and run after about 3 seconds after seeing her entire retinue of Longbow melt. We of course all run after her, straight into *another PPD ambush. Lots of messy death (theirs, not ours) and mish done.

Serious amounts of fun and no form of teamwork required other than "shoot and stab things in the face". It was like the evolution of scrapperlock. At the start "Man I wish this mastermind would save me". By the end "We have demons on the team?"

Agreed. Ironically Villains is the side you're more likely to come across a team all suffering from a form of Scrapperlock.

Suffering may be the wrong word there.

    1) Weaker overall defenses - Villain ATs have characters with weaker defenses and weaker support than hero side ATs. Compare a Brute with a Tanker or Corruptor to a Defender. Heroes also have access to their best buffs/debuffs earlier. (Speed boost at lvl12? Yes, please!) As many are aware, since mitigation strength is non-linear, the combination of these two are huge.
But consider VEATs which add defenses to the entire team.

Also Villain ATs are more rounded in terms of damage capabilities, there's no low damage ATs villain-side really.

This is good advice. Switched my laptops HD from a 5400 160Gb to a 7200 500Gb two weeks ago (and dumped Vista for Windows 7 and Linux Mint) and there's a significant difference in how well it works. Try and insist they give you a 7200 HD (and 4Gb RAM).

Can't really help with the cards though I'm afraid, lost touch with Graphics cards a while back and have no idea of them now.
  18. Up to you. There's a LOT of demons running about now.

Yesterday I got on a team with 7 SoAs and 1 solitary Demon MM, I think the leader was specifically avoiding having too many MMs because of the demon-spam.

    * It was glorious. Level 12, no enhancements and 42% melee defense. Mmmm.

    Too late

Tried that myself earlier on in the week. Copied to c:\users\[username]\Games\CoHTest\

    * ran it and pointed the installer at the same folder but got the Permission error. Even tried "Run as Administrator" but no cigar. Has me a bit stumped. My actual CoH client is running happily in c:\users\[username]\Games\CoH\ though.

If you have a portable hdd, a cd/dvd writer, or a memory stick with enough capacity, its a simple drag and drop. When you run the updater on your new machine, the game will pick up as normal.

So, if I'm right and that is the case, one way to get around not having the up-to-date game on disk is to periodically back up your game folder onto dvd or something - maybe after there's been a big download,or whenever's suitable.

Yes, this is correct. Copy it or burn it to a DVD and then copy it across to the new machine and it'll ask where you want to install to, just say the same folder.

I did run into some weird Permissions error (same one that prevents me from running test) but it eventually worked (I installed to a Games folder under my user folder).

Still no idea how to get Test working on Windows 7 / Vista though, keep getting a Permissions error regardless of the foldername.

Forts can pull with it too. Pull em to a corner (the low rooted time lets you do it easily) and then do horrific AOE things to them all.

I'd be the the DN > Maneuvers camp for Forts personally, the debuff values are huge on it, but I pull with anchors on Defenders and Controllers so I'm a bit of a fan of doing it (and DN in general).

In which case I'd recommend you get Gloom, Maneuvers and TT: Assault.

If you're getting Gloom why not get Darkest Night rather than Maneuvers?

But if I were to ever try Empathy on a controller again, it would probably be Earth/Empathy.
Just the thought of having something to put Fortitude on while solo makes me smile. And I would bet "buffed-up Stoney" is quite a sight to see in action.

Whereas beholding "Buffed-up Weed" in action is pretty underwhelming, unless you get lucky and the stupid thing actually decides to get in close (it's Bite is a decent attack). Stupid thing usually cowers behind me waving its tendrils.

So much for the No Recharge change fixing Pet AI, all it seems to have done to Plant/Emp is make Audrey weaker since AB doesn't do much for her now and she still hangs back.

Seeds and Creepers are awesome though, my Plant/Emp can solo quite easily.

Maneuvers, Aim, Tactical Training: Assault, Tactical Training: Leadership, and a PPP AoE Immob (likely Mako's Immob)

Note: Only reason why I would get Maneuvers is to increase Ranged/AoE defense from 33% to 38% (goal isn't necessarily to soft-cap everything, yet) and to increase teammates defense.

I was considering Aim, PPP AoE Immob, and one of the tactical trainings/maneuvers, but I'm not sure if that's the best. Thoughts? What's better: +to hit or +dam in terms of the tactical trainings? Thanks

I'd personally go TT Assault, PPP AOE Immob (Mako) and Arctic Breath from the Vet rewards. Arctic Breath has a 15% resistance debuff in it and can take Achilles Heel PROCs I think, and with 3 recharge in there becomes almost perma. That's basically like adding another TT Assault.

That's my plan anyway, a Cone chain of AA, Immob, Darts and Psi Scream (and maybe Psi Tornado with a Forced Feedback PROC in it, maybe).
