Quote:My Tri-Form Warshade was my favourite single character I've ever played (as long as they were on a team). From level 20 onwards every level up was a treat in terms of getting precious, precious slots or a fun new power to try out. You can do some silly-fun combinations of powers if you're willing to flit between forms in combat.Ice/Psi just seems like the kind of AT that is most enjoyable with a large group, and I'm fine with that.
I still have questions about the WS and Fort suggested previously, if anyone can answer them. I'm also curious about what I could make hero side, since I want at least one hero and one villain that fit the description of the sort of AT I'm looking for.
Fire/Rad controller built as a Scraptroller was also fun from about level 12 onwards. -
Quote:thanks that's good to know.
a bunch of those dom guides are wrong (old) then.
but that still doesnt change the fact that solo doms not in
domination are squishy, or squishier than a regular squishy.
They are squishy sure, but no less so than other squishies IMO and possibly less so than your average Blaster, they have the tools to stop a lot of attacks from even happening. Ice/Psi also has the ability to become a Regen domi for 30 seconds at a time which is awesome.
My main issue solo is that Psi Scream, while hard hitting, is a cone and can be hard to line up when you're in a melee scrum. You can solo, it's just not as fun as say with a MM or Brute. -
Quote:Oh I'm only 29. But Ice Patch, Arctic Air and Drain Psyche love teams too much for me to consider soloing much. I'll switch to my Brute if I want to solo. What level is your Ice/Psi right now? You don't think it's good to solo with even at high levels? Not that it's really an issue, I guess. I think teaming tends to be more fun anyway.
Quote:IMO i would not chose a dom if you exclusively solo, because honestly you are going to die a lot (until you hit lvl 32). You are not going to be able to build up your bar fast enough to do real damage until your half way through the map and a solo dom not in domination is about as tough as wet toilet paper. If you are actually having fun with the dom, I would say consider teaming him until lvl 32 (atleast).
My Widow is fun too, and will be more fun once she's become a ranged, cone wielding pseudo-Domi with defenses (or a Night Widow using Dual Builds for when I get bored of being a Fort). -
Quote:I find the 1-2 attacks very useful vs bosses and Lieuts. But if I'm in the mood to solo I play something else to be honest. The melee attacks are fairly hard hitting (for Domi attacks) but soloing her is always going to be a drag.I spend a lot of time in melee range on him to make sure that AoE confusion gets everyone it possibly can, so getting in range for my powers hasn't been an issue. The two attacks I have, though, just feel so weak. There's no way I could solo something in an efficient amount of time, and I don't think that's going to change until level 38. I'll probably stick with that as my new main villain, but I'd also like to take a hero into consideration.
How much better are dominators than controllers once perma-dom comes into play? -
Quote:I've been playing melee for a long time now, and have been unable to get into anything else. Lately I've been screwing around with low level controllers, dominators, corruptors, etc. and I'm starting to really enjoy them. I think that I'm getting to the point where I can enjoy one of these classes more than I'd ever enjoy a Brute, Scrapper, or Stalker. The thing is, I've researched melee classes for months, played many different types to level 30+, and I know all about what I do and don't find fun. For other classes, though, I'm at a loss.
The thing that really got my interest recently was my Ice/Psi dominator. He's only level 14, but he makes groups so easy with his AoE confuse and ice slick. It's like the ultimate defense, yet so squishy. I find the play style very unique and interesting, but I don't like the fact that I'm not going to be doing any damage until level 38.
I'm wondering what's FOTM lately for the non-melee classes, any of them. Even Kheldians, which I've never played before. I don't care about having the most DPS or any of that crap, as long as I feel like I'm kicking *** and having a fun time doing it, I'll be happy. As I've seen stated before, in a game like this DPS is really insignificant considering how quickly most everything drops in a group.
So I'm up for any suggestions, just give a brief explanation as to why you recommend what you do!
And for reference, this is what I like in terms of powersets:
Fun > Damage > Control > Support/Healing
Stick with the Ice/Psi dom, they become great post level 22 once you've SOed up. You're a jack of all trades though, combining melee, ranged and cone damage together which means moving a lot in combat. Two of the hardest hitters are melee based (Probe and Telekinetic Thrust) so don't be afraid to get and use them. -
Quote:I've managed to resist temptation when reading other posts of yours up until now, but I'm going to finally crack and ask.....
What are the asterisk's for in your posts?? Every time I get to one, I automatically look for footnotes at the bottom and somehow feel cheated when I don't find any
I know, aren't they annoying. A weird combination of Linux, Opera and these forums is causing it, possibly related to the Delete / Backspace button. When I Edit and try to delete them I just end up propagating more.
I was wondering when someone would ask me why the hell I scatter my posts with the damn things. I should claim it's festive or something -
Quote:Really? I must on a different Virtue then. All I see is some people ((talking like this)). Weird thing is they tend to say EVERYTHING like that, at least on PuGs. So they become kinda pointless. When i played on virtue once i couldnt stop laughing! Nothing against roleplayers but it just seemed so funny to me to be on a server where almost everybody is playing "in character"!
Had a few casual RPers on teams as well but nothing major, mainly battle cries and wise-cracks which are easy to get into the spirit of,
Of course I do avoid Pocket D... -
Quote:I had the same thing happen last night. I don't think it is a bug so much as massive lag on the market server. I frequently had to do the same thing 2 or 3 times before it would "take" and actually do what I wanted it to do.
I had this happen when trying to sell an item, move an item (recipe, enhancement, salvage) from my character to the market storage area, or trying to get the proceeds from a sale. it would appear to make the move but would then reverse itself.
if you don't already have market messages set up to display in an open chat window, I suggest you do that, at least for now. I could tell by watching for the messages whether something completed or if it was going to come back to its original state.
Ah, that explains it.
I thought I was being unfeasibly thick that I couldn't manage to post some things up yesterday.

Quote:Yeah, but the way pet AI is at the moment I've had purple bosses running from me from being brawled.*Well I don't think things are supposed to flee from it but some mobs will head for the hills
The DoT probably doesn't help matters in the case of Acid Mortar, the pet AI seems totally strange at the mo. -

Quote:1. Mobs flee from acid mortar. It is annoying. Slotted caltrops can help. I like provoke it keeps things planted even with rain of fire and mortar on them.
2. 53% def is probably more than you need. Keep in mind seekers debuff acc quite a bit so they generally help you out if you get mildly debuffed.
3. Not sure, I use clouded in mine, or stupefy.
Do things flee from Acid Mortar? I've never noticed it and cannot see mention of it on City of Data, I thought it was basically firing off Acid Arrows on a short recharge. -
Quote:I've been playing a Necro/Dark since villains launched, so the concept is alien to me too. I'd assume in general that Me and/or my Pets Go First should be the standard opener for any team without a Brute (or if the Brute is feeling squishy against whatever we're facing).Any /Dark Miasma MM who doesn't open with those two (or even is afraid to 'start things rolling') deserves far worse than you're giving them.
Then again, perhaps the new set has attracted some players who normally don't run MMs and don't understand them too well yet.
* Hell, I've got a specific bind to force one of my Zombies into melee all the time as my chief alpha absorber just so I can have even more pets out at once. (and to watch him die horribly time and time again. Poor old Mr Pink). -
My Stone/Fire brute is already one, Crom Cruaich, an ancient Celtic deity whose main claim to fame is that he got beaten up by a crozier-wielding Saint Patrick.
Saint Patrick was pretty damn kick-***, what with his god pummeling and snake bashing ways.*
Even then I'm not sure anyone who let himself get beaten up by a priest with a stick can be considered an Incarnate really. -
Quote:It wouldnt hurt anyone... Maybe it draws people in. Anyway...
The main point is that there are servers in the US that have lesser people on then there are atm on UNION. and if any EU servers where in danger it would be the French and German servers first.
No merge is going to happen!
No servers will be taken down!
I just hope for a combined list of servers and one global for all...
At this point I'd settle for just one fee to access both sides of the pond if the other technical issues are too much for too little gain (which I suspect they might have decided upon).
At least then one could decide where they want to play easily on a daily basis and join in community events EU side if they came up. -
Quote:Brutes and Tankers both cap at 90% (though Brutes get Scrapper-like base values for their powers). EATs (Hero and Villain) cap at 85%. everyone else caps at 75%.
However, note also that Masterminds distribute damage to their henchmen while in Bodyguard mode, after Resistance is applied. Bodyguard splits damage into 2 parts for the player, 1 part for each henchman in BG (so 70 damage with 6 pets in BG means 20 damage for the MM, 10 damage for each pet). So, MMs can combine BG's 'pseudo-resistance' with actual resistance, and could reduce their personal incoming damage by 93.75% (75% resistance with 6 pets in BG mode).
I believe the ghosts summoned by Necromany's Soul Extraction count towards BG, too; the ghosts all die after 300s and Soul Extraction recharges in 600s, so a high recharge build might be able to sustain 2 ghosts at once (assuming a zombie gets killed fast enough). That would let you get 8 pets in BG for 95% damage reduction when combined with 75% true resistance.
In practice, the henchmen tend to fall to AoEs faster than the high resistance could be useful, but in theory Masterminds get the highest damage reduction capacity in the game
* I've been wondering recently if Defense should have some sort of caps imposed too. Tanks, Scrapper, Stalkers and Brutes 45%, EATS 42.5% and everyone else 40% or so. Seems weird that Resistance Caps are applied differently between ATs but Defense isn't.
Of course there are a lot more Defense Debuffs in the game and less Defense Debuff Resistance so it's probably a wash. -
Quote:Because you haven't played with my DS/DM
I'm always willing to run in first and keep on moving.
The others are scared of debt.
Maybe I have. It's all a blur of scantily clad ladies and grunting, hideous monsters at this point. (I'd love to say "Just like college" but that'd be a lie).
I've certainly teamed with Demon MMs who open with Tar Patch and Fearsome Stare. I liked them. But I've also teamed with lots of Cowardly Lion types who all stand there when you say "Ready". Generally I say "Bored now" and Ice Patch from cover to encourage them to get started.
One can never have too many VEATs though. Mmmm. Soft-cap on top of saturated Drain Psyche. -
Quote:Dont worry about it, once its fixed it will be good
The hardware drivers thing also gets the same result, black screen. I did this the first time I installed mint and wasnt sure how to remove it so i ended up reinstalling the entire system lol.
I just found something on packages called 'NVidia-185-Kernel-Source' with a few versions, going to try that.
Which driver did you use on that first attempt? The 18x (think it was 185) was the one that caused me problems, so I reverted to a 17x version. And what sort of card do you have? -
Quote:Erk, I feel guilty for mentioning Mint now. Stupid thing worked for me from the off, including offering a choice of drivers for my Laptop Nvidia card.Ok after doing that I had a bit of a massive problem lol.
I couldnt see my screen in init 5 anymore, the screen went black as though it was turned off, which Im guessing points to the driver being the wrong one for nvidia card.
I finally found out the command to uninstall the nvidia driver from my other computer and that worked, but now im back to square one.
The install file for the driver I downloaded myself still comes up with the same error despite the kernel upgrades.
Any other suggestions?
Have you tried going into Hardware in the Control Panel (or whatever they call it) and clicking on that? That's how I got my driver installed, and my card is a weird one (8400M GT). Much easier than trying to compile things and update kernels.
Basically I used Hardware Drivers here. Got two listed, the newer, recommended one didn't work well, did all sorts of funky graphics glitches, so I reinstalled (it was quicker than messing around uninstalling things) and went with the older version.

Quote:Just logged a toon was able to get a couple of my recipes off of Wents. But I still have 8/16 that wont come off. I left wents then came back a little bit later. Still cant claim my recipes. Logged off toon relogged 5 minutes later, and still cant claim my recipes. Hearing in local chat others who cant get recipes they bought or have stored. Sent petition. Just wondering how many others are having same problem.
Try quitting to desktop and then restarting CoH.* -

Being melee orientated would be horrid at the mo. I'm occasionally tempted at the log on screen to try my level 12 Dark/Energy Brute but then think about the swarms of demons getting in the way and decide to play something else instead.

Quote:Mobile broadband is a waste of time anyway, particularly the huewei modems (probably spelled wrong
)
I can use a cabled connection until i get stuff sorted but so far the windows drivers seem to be out to annoy me even with wine
When it's free anyway and your Cable Network has fallen over all weekend Mobile Broadband is certainly not a waste of time
Been running it all weekend and it's perfectly fine even playing CoH (from Europe). -
That's the 3D Desktop stuff? Yes, I'm pretty sure it does, I've got the fancy 3D Task swapper etc on my home install. It's built on top of Ubuntu so tends to have everything Ubuntu does. The desktop is less Gnomish than Ubuntu as well (still Gnome but just the one bar along the bottom rather than the way Ubuntu does it).
Can't get my blasted mobile broadband working on it though. Wretched thing, -
Quote:^ This basically. Except I played my Plant/Emp during the City of Neo.This is the reason I wait a significant period of time before rolling an new power. I don't begrudge anyone else playing FoTM (It is delicious soup, after all), but it undermines my personal desire to feel truly individualized.
Except for Dual Pistols. 'Cuz they were dual freakin' pistols.
Mainly because if there are loads of one type of a character running about you tend to get invited to PuGs easier if you aren't them (especially in the case of MMs). So I've mostly stuck to my Ice/Psi Domi who tends to work well with the demonic horde. I would like to know why so many Demon MMs are big scardie-cats though, half the time I'm the one opening combat.
I've also started a Widow who is late teens, but she gets a team handily anyway since you rarely have too many SoAs.
