Quote:Only from Hidden status - the random chance to critical from outside hidden status is the same regardless of whether the attack is an AoE or not. And Lightning Rod doesn't critical, but since it's a pet summon it doesn't break hidden status either.
I knew about the Lightning Rod thing but didn't know about the unaffected crits for AOEs in non-hidden play. That's interesting for my Elec/Nin. -

Quote:Thanks for the info! (ClawsandEffect: do stalkers get any 360-degree AOEs?)
Oh AOEs have half the chance of critting.*
There's a list of all the powers here :
http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...type.php?at=10
Assuming you mean PBAOEs Thunderstrike, Spin and Lightning Rod (which doesn't Crit as far as I know, but won't break hide) are the 3 I know of. -
Quote:Wrong way around, the -res improves any -damage powers.I would certainly scrap Life Drain for Nightfall. As a defender, your main addition to team damage is through AoEs. (Other reasons: you also have a heal already that's much more powerful than Life Drain and an AoE and a better debuff, your two single-target blasts recharge very quickly, and the Devastation bonuses aren't that sweet.)
Darkest Night's absence is also probably not helpful for high end stuff. Although it's a long cast, and its -tohit is resisted to near uselessness by AVs, the -dmg is not resisted by AVs, and, due to a programming quirk, improves any -res powers against AVs, I think.
So Tar Patch enhances the -Damage from DN and Twilight Grasp. -
Quote:Well that's not true. Corrupters logically would be squishier as their debuffs are weaker.Because tanks don't get ranged sets.
You're proposing that the AT worst equipped for melee get sets that force it to be there? The only thing squishier than a defender in melee is a petless MM.
So for Defenders I'd like to see Earth Assault, Fire Assault and Thorn Assault proliferated to them from the Domi sets. All of the others have Blasty alternatives so I'd leave off proliferating them for a bit. -

Quote:Get out of human form. Your strategy is flawless for the opener and the Grav Well. Awesome. From that point, however, you're better off to shift to nova and blast away while they're stunned. When they start to fire back, THEN drop to dwarf and finish the survivors off. They'll have much less life left if you switch to Nova instead of blasting in human form, and your lobster won't need so much time to kill them.
Yep, this. A tri-former should rarely be using the Human form single-target blasts. That's what Squiddly form is for. I only use human form blasts to finish off a target I've hit with Gravity Well so I can explode & extract their corpse usually. -
Quote:Stalkers get a Scrapper-like chance to crit now, instead of the "always crit if opponent is held" mechanism.I haven't done much Stalking for a long time- just started out a couple of new ones.
I've noticed I get occasional criticals even when not Hidden. I'm sure this is a years-old change, but what's up with that?
The Stalker chance scales with your team size though. I think it's somewhere close to 30% on an 8 man. -
Quote:And yet some people opposed to this merge for tenuous RP reasons* still happily use a system which is categorically stated to have been created by Dr Aeon and Crey Industries. The reason for RP blaming wasn't a universal RP blame. It was targetted specifically at the notion that there was only one way to RP the markets and that was that the heroes would never buy from the villains. Meanwhile many other RPing versions were indifferent or even pro-merger as you mention you could come up with. But that particular strain of RPer would not accept any version but their own.
People are weird. -
Quote:* The previous ace record is particularly funny because it was set by Ivo Karlovic and he actually lost the match. And he was beating his previous record, which was against Hewitt in the French, which he also lost. Was following this on a website that broke and reset to 0-0 at 50 each.
Previous record for aces in a match was 78, they've both served 90+.
The final set has lasted longer than any other whole match in history.
(Man people on Wikipedia are fast, I went to check Karlovics profile to see when he set the 78 ace record and someone has already updated it to say Isner now holds the title and Mahut also surpassed it) -

Signed. If I've made it to hospital then chances are I've burnt all my Insps and need new ones. Green and Blues are thematic and I can combine them anyway to get Purples instead if I so desire.

Everybody thinks your a fruit...
Cannot think of any fruit that has long hair off the top of my head. Gooseberries are more like my hairstyle, shorn to a couple of millimeters. -

Bored of the World Cup?
Tired of watching overhyped, overpaid sportsmen do 90 minutes work poorly and get lauded for it?
Annoyed with them passing the buck and blaming each other for their own failings?
Driven mad by the incessant buzzing of plastic horns?
Then watch the tennis instead. There's always a winner and a loser... eventually...
The day before yesterday a truly epic match got underway between John Isner of the US and Nicholas Mahut of France. Thanks to the "No tie break in the 5th" rule they have 2 days later it's still going on. over 9 hours of tennis, 118 games in the 5th alone and still no winner. It's now deadlocked at 59-59 and resumes again today at 16:00.*
Oh and the Queen is turning up today as well, although I suspect she didn't have to queue outside the gate* all night for tickets. -
Quote:Agreed EU_Damz.
BUT I'm not going to fret over missing out on a free code, 'cause I'll pay for the code either tomorrow or at a later date. Lol..says he looking at an earlier post on Twitter ref. a Frenchman that had won a code. Grrr....hope France falls to it's knees in the World Cup! =)
Aaarrgh..... time to beat on someone/thing in CoH/CoV!!!
Laters
France managed to do more than "fall to it's knees" the day before yesterday. They activated Self-Destruct and imploded spectacularly (cheering up 4.5 million Irish fans in the process). Tasty tasy Schadenfreude. Om nom nom nom.
I do hope Mahut wins the Ridiculously Epic Tennis match today though. -
Blueside the Science Store contact in Bricks also gives it to you. Anyone can do the mission and it's just a single one. Think it can be done at 30.

Quote:Energy Torrent has a 45 degree arc, wider than Frost Breath or the like. The FX for it are totally misleading. Dam is average on it though (about the same as Fissure / Psi Tornado but aoes are better than cones in general). The fact it does knockdown is nice.Actually, Ice Armor is also Defense-based.
All of the APP sets have good things, and there are good reasons to choose any of them.
Ice has the most AoE Damage, with both Ice Storm and Frost Breath. Cold is a rarely resisted damage type, the blast is nice and fast, and you get a great "panic button" power in Hibernate to recover BOTH Health and Endurance. Plus a Defense-based armor that doesn't look like Poo on your shoulders. I pick Ice on many of my characters, especially Stormies who need both a heal and endurance.
Fire is focused on Damage. Fire Blast is the highest damage single target blast, and Fireball is a lot of up-front AoE damage that you can get at level 41. Consume can re-fill your Blue Bar. Rise of the Phoenix is the only Self-Rez available to Controllers. And Fire Shield is an OK Resistance based shield that looks OK, too. I tend to go with Fire for characters who need a fast high-damage single target attack, or up-front damage from the AoE. My Ill/Rad and Ill/TA both have Fire. Fire lights Oil Slick Arrow with both Fireball and Fire Blast.
Earth is popular with Kinetics characters. Fissure is good short-range AoE damage with a chance to stun and knockdown, and it recharges quickly -- it seems to be the best choice for fast damage after Fulcrum Shift. Seismic Smash is a huge single target melee attack -- really good for Plant Controllers lacking in single target damage. Earth's Embrace is a controller's Dull Pain. Hurl Boulder does a lot of damage but it is SLOW. And the ugly armor is Defense based.
Psi gives a controller's only mez protection in Indomidible Will. The Blast is OK, and the Resistance armor is OK with some Psi protection, but prepare to be surrounded in a pink glow. Psi Tornado is a nice AoE with knock-up, but remember that Psi is heavily resisted by Robots and some other late-game foes. World of Confusion is pretty worthless. I love this set for my Fire/Rad, to prevent mez, mostly.
Primal provides Power Boost, the best way to buff your control powers. Conserve Power can help endurance woes. The Blast is OK, and the Resistance Armor provides the highest Smashing/Lethal resistance of the Controller armors. The only AoE is a narrow cone, so don't look to Primal for AoE. (On Mind Controllers, Power Boost+Mass Confusion is awesome.) The energy in the blast and in Torrent will light Oil Slick Arrow.
My Grav/TA uses Power for it, and for PBed EMP Arrow of course which is silly. -

Synergy Failure : Stone/Fire Brutes. On paper the two sets complement each other really well. Tonnes of control in the primary to keep things in Burn patches and supplement Fire Armours relatively weak resists, AOE damage in Burn and Blazing Aura to augment Stones rather mediocre AOE damage and Consume to help with the horrendous End costs all round.
In practice it just doesn't manage to come together though and feels clunky. Burn doesn't play well with Fury, End Costs are still horrible and all that knockdown and stunning still doesn't completely counter the Burn scatter. -
Quote:That's the most ridiculous yardstick for measuring game activity I've ever heard of.From 11pm till around 1am GMT+1 time, and i'm not refering to the /who, but plain the people i talk to, see moving around or any other way being active.
I agree with your points in general about the EU side but using "there are only 20 people active at peak time" based on who you actually see around is fail and detracts from any point you were trying to make.
