Not too impressed with the limits on Spawn placement either. We'll end up with "custom" maps where you still know the exact placement of each spawn. It really is sounding more like a Customizer rather than a mission Editor at the mo.

I'm not overly impressed that we can't make custom maps or place spawns either, even though I did expect these limitations. Though I was starting to hope we might get map editing, what with base improvements being in the very same issue (now just watch - I bet the base editor revamp doesn't actually improve the base editor as much as we hoped either).
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't think we'd get a Map Creator / Editor per say, but I was really hoping for something which let us place Spawns, Glowies and set up trigger points for various events.
For me that's the more interesting side of custom content, messing about with the actual ingame map and deciding on nasty things you can spring on the players, rather than the blurb surrounding it. -
Dimension Shift should become a timed toggle IMO. It'd be a bit less annoying if you could switch it off early for your teammates.
Wormhole could do with a slight increase in the AOE, it really is small compared to most other AOE mezzes.
Contained Propel does great damage, but its so slow on teams its basically useless. I'd be for dropping the animation time a bit and adjusting the damage to compensate. -

Dev's Choice: Dev's choice missions are the ones I mentioned as getting special treatment. These missions are ones that the developers themselves happen to think are cool. These missions will give out full xp/inf/drops. In addition getting a mission chosen as a dev's choice is what unlocks the special factions and AVs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Erk, don't like this, at least not the Unlock Special Factions and AVs bit.

People who you've never talked to before who call you mate immediately.
[/ QUOTE ]
You must hate Aussies then... G'day mate!
[/ QUOTE ]
As I posted above, I generally just hate people, and that is regardless of nationality, creed, religion, race etc. I'm fairly equal with my hatred.
Of course Australians are to blame for that darn Australian Questioning Intonation currently pervading British youths. Yeah, that annoys me too. I'm just a bitter old man.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hurrah for bitter old men!!
I've been one since I were a lad. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, lucky me. I've never had the habit of calling people mate. I always get this weird feeling that when someone calls another mate that they're consenting to a mutual mating ritual.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah. I see you've met lots of Australians then -
[ QUOTE ]
Obviously I didn't make myself clear.
What I was referring is NOT that players cannot create equal or better content than developers. Creativity is out of the question.
What I meant is that of course developers have thought about the possibilities of the system to be exploited to farm, PL, badge-hunting or whatever and have taken steps to prevent it.
I am sorry if my poor mastery of the English language didn't make it clear.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats not really true either, if you look at the history of things that have gotten ingame and then been exploited by the player base until the loophole is closed.
There's so many players trying different things that the breadth of their experimentation frequently exposes exploits the Devs never dreamt of when designing features. -
A tiny doddery, crotchety old lady called Auntie Neutrino (inspired from a New Scientist article here).
For some reason all my recent toons have been crotchety old ladies (but I just thought of that name) -
In the grand tradition of gritty 90s comics like Sin City can we be ninja hookers if we log off in the seedier areas of Independence Port or Talos?
At least one of my characters is a professional hobo, so I'm hoping that logging off by a park bench in Perez or under a bridge in Skyway lets him keep doing that. -
[ QUOTE ]
You can make robots with the standard cosy bits though, it's not like they're stopping you making one.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've made 2.
Just seems that the pay-for content they're now producing is the sort of stuff one would have gotten within the the issue until recently. -
Hmmm. Not sure I like the fact this pack will probably have what a lot of us have been crying out for (proper robot parts) instead of i13. Robots are a staple of comic books (unlike wedding outfits) so this really can't be called a "niche costume" in the same way.

Storms is more of a challenge methinks, but i ahven't played a hero in years.
But yeah i've got terminal Altitis, but probably worse than you, i've been here for years, and I still don't have a lvl 50 on europe lol. bleh.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's true altitis. A true sufferer doesn't bother with PLing or any of that, they just meander through the content, flicking between Alts on a whim, playing 3 or 4 of them in a day for no real reason other than they fancied playing em. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Does that help you understand my point
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it just makes me think you're desperately looking for anything to complain about in regards to the issue.
Unless your very existence is threatened by the thought of someone else enjoying the mission editor, I really don't think the problem is as dramatic as you make it out to be. As absurd and crazy as this sounds, all those missions are going to be actually...played by teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a very good point. Having fiddled about in various other things designing levels, small scenarios etc you rarely want to play the buggers much yourself, you're too close. The pleasure comes in watching others play them (and scream in frustration) -

Now that my question was derailed, does anyone know if it will be possible to create a farming map?!
[/ QUOTE ]
depends. if they give us the croatoa tileset I would say a definite yes but if we are limited to indoor , hypdroponics might be your only option.
[/ QUOTE ]
It took me a shamefully long time to get that.
Me brain think good. -

-sigh-
I'm starting to think that only myself and a handful of others actually enjoyed this announcement.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you nuts? We haven't had this good a grumble ages!
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. Things are so dull when everyone goes "w00t, I love you devs"
I'll probably (hopefully) enjoy the Mission Designer, depending on how good it is. Most other things I can take or leave. There's nothing that excites me in the announcement really though, which is a crying shame given how much they talked it up. I really thought they'd come up with something special. -

If by first you mean "almost 6 months later" then sure
Been there. Had the flamewar -

Yup. As was the concept of hitpoints and attacks. Blizzard are one of the most original companies in gaming history; almost all modern development choices have began with them.

what its only works for 30 days...that is weak i thought it was like the jump pack that you kept and had on every toon?
[/ QUOTE ]
So did I. Surely they arent literally talking about 1 flight pack that you got to pay over 20% the amount of your entire subscription cost for???
[/ QUOTE ]
After thinking about the advantage it could give I'm happy they've made it so expensive really. Otherwise it could have been City of MinMax jetpackers.
I'd be very interesting to see what this cyberpack thingy does... -
[ QUOTE ]
The wedding pack isn't a good thing to compare it to, because that was 100% cosmetic. The Cyborg pack isn't, and the jet thingy seems to be 100% power-based.
The "boost" in the jet pack is that if you pay (and continue paying) for this, you don't need to pick a travel power so you effectively get an extra power slot to pick into.
Sure, there are other ways to get jet packs, but even so...slippery slope.
Edit: Fixed typo
[/ QUOTE ]
In fact if you're a squishy who was taking Fly, chances are you'll free up two powers this way. That's a serious advantage!
Plus any other way of getting jet packs involves ingame actions. Again if they were serious about providing this content to people who missed it they could have added them as temporary power recipes rather than charging for the privilage. Then you would work / pay ingame for the pack rather than it depending on RL circumstances. -
[ QUOTE ]
Slippery slope time?
[/ QUOTE ]
I suspect so. Or at least "milk it until it bleeds" time.
The pay-for respecs threw warning signals to me, there was no technical reason they couldn't have made the last Trial repeatable for heroes and villains if they were really concerned about people not having enough respecs. (it would have probably been technically less difficult than tying it into the Payment system). It also lets me turn real life cash into regained Inf by letting me sell the unused SOs in a paid-for respec build which I don't like. As a non-vet lowbie on the US servers it means I can have a paid-for edge over other people by buying and using a respec at certain levels (22, 27 and 32 anyway). -
[ QUOTE ]
Well for me a patron power respec and a version of empathy for villains are great.
The pack with the aura and a power etc i will no doubt get.
The rest im not too bothered about either way.
Except the buy every 30 days jet pack, i hope that gets the fail it deserves, in my opinion of course.
[/ QUOTE ]
Buy every 30 days jetpack?
That's ridiculous beyond belief.
First thing in CoX that has my contempt! -

Plus lets see how advanced it is before giving it the "ground breaking" tag.
If it doesn't have in-map triggers and events and some branching logic in the arc dialogue it'd be fairly unimpressive to me really.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its an direction, the first who does it doesnt have to be the best from start.
[/ QUOTE ]
It had to be a decent enough feature that a fair proportion of the player base access, like and use it though (see what happened with bases). Not saying it won't be, but for my money the best way to create fun scenarios (or arcs if you prefer) is to give writers decent tools to create with. 2 I personally would like the most would be in-mission triggers and events (so you can have ambushes, NPC dialogue and various twists in-mission) and branching dialogue so you can make meaningful story choices outside of missions to drive the story in a certain direction.

Plus lets see how advanced it is before giving it the "ground breaking" tag.
If it doesn't have falling blocks, floor traps with spikes, collapsing bridges, and pits of molten lava (or fake plastic lava for overlords on a budget) it'd be fairly unimpressive to me really.

Edited for truth.

Motion passed!
Make it so (although you left out oversized rolling stone balls and snakes DW, but I'm willing to forgive you) -
Erm, didn't NWN do this 5 years ago?
