    Fix Burn

Yep, Burn is fairly horrible now unless you've got the tools to leverage it with. Which Scrapper don't really get much (a few single target immobs mostly). The Scrapper Damage on Burn is incorrect too, so you're really getting hit with a double whammy. Brutes have the tools to take advantage of it far more than scrappers do (although Brutes take a hit since it doesn't play well with Fury for long). Fiery Aura on Scrapper is pretty flawed, an example of bad proliferation (it's decent on Brutes because the Heal works better, you've higher caps on your resists so you basically become immune to Fire damage and Brutes can use AOE Control & knockdown and/or the Patron immobs with Burn)

why not just change the burn status effect to knockback, like bonfire?
    Ew. No. Bonfire is bad.

Yes. Because you humans are always good at having differing sides live together peacefully and not slaughtering each other in needless violence.

Erk, I mean us humans, obviously...

Bad idea. First thing they'd do is decide "I'm not having these squashy meatbags using my brain for playing games, let's see how they like it!"

And then we end up in the Matrix (or how it should have been if Duracell hadn't thrown a load of money at the producers to get some product placement going) with Servers using us to play WoW on.

What if we split some, and then merged the bits with split bits from other servers and do it for a few thousand server generations?

We could breed an army of Super Servers! MWHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!

I liked Je Saists idea of a postive only rep, so you can tell someone that you liked there post. Personally that's the way I was using Rep anyway. Anything I disagreed with I was happy to do within the thread itself rather than hiding behind some anonymous (why did ye make it anonymous Mods?) system.

Yes you can. And before the changes they'd see the comment too if they went into their control panel. Now you'd only see it if you hunt out the post in question and click on your own Rep icon.

Which IS kinda useless unless you obsess over your posting history and view each post you have made for responses over the past month or so...
kinda? Totally is more like it.

And the mechanism is inconsistant too. If you've gotten Postive Rep for a post you get a nice pop-up DIV layer with the info on it. If you've got none you get an ugly Javascript Alert message. Urrgh/

Surely the smart thing would have been to only show comments if a user had switch on their rep. Then people offended by it could ignore it completely.

Hmmm. So now rep is completely useless rather than being useless but entertaining.

So how does that gel with the original comment about it being "Just a fun little forum game"?

    Do eet.

Yep, Claws/WP is basically "switch all my toggles on and then just slice away". You don't worry about things like clicking secondary powers and in general unless you're facing End Draining enemies you don't have many holes. All you do is jump in so lots of things surround you for the +Regen and then you Spin them to death.

With Claws/Elec you eventually become the Energizer Bunny, and laugh at things like Carnies but it takes 35 levels to get your Infinite Endurance power with Power Sink and in the 20s you gasp for the healing that Energize gives you. Claws/Elec is darn pretty looking though.

Him, obviously. Also, remembering how NCSoft dealt with their EU Mod team for the most part, me.

Also the point about how NCSoft changed their results reporting a while back is well made. It obfuscates the overall population in the game behind a nice whirling cloud of microtransaction payments (and we do know that CoH has always had dedicated users who tend to buy the packs). So realistically they don't tell you anything about the overall population of the game. And they certainly don't tell you much about the EU side.

The only time I've ever seen a Giant Monster actually attack something is when Jack and Eochai beat the tar out of each other in the Vale.

Lusca just sits in IP waving her tentacles. The Paladin stomps around Kings but doesn't actually do any harm. The Kraken maybe does mess up the nice clean water in Perez, but that place has far worse problems and Jurrasik actually has kind of a point in rampaging through Creys given the mess humans have made of the place.

Oddly though when I was fighting the Honoree he was quite happy to stand still despite Tornado, LS and Spookie all out against him. Although that could have been down to my teamies boxing him in or immobing him.

I'm also using a fully relational database to store the information in (Apache Derby, which is also Java-based, so there's no compatibility issues), rather than a mix of binary and flat files like current Mids' does. There's a bit of overhead, but it makes my job easier and lends itself to a redesign of the database editor which I think is really slick. Specifically, the db stores the "official" information, and then stores the changes the users makes to that information; you don't get to actually modify the database, but your additions/modifications/deletions are reflected in the program regardless. The advantages here is that updates to the program don't automatically cause conflicts with changes you've made, and the entire process of reverting a change back to the "official" values is to simply delete an edit from the db.
(Edit: For those interested in the technicalities of this process, look up Outer Join)
So you're left outer joining the "Official" table to the "User Changes" table and if the "User" table value isn't null then using that?

If you need testers let me know. I'm a Java web developer as well so funky exception messages don't scare me. I use Linux in here as well so happy to do some cross-platform testing when you get to Beta (or even beforehand if you've some reason to want to).

These effects aren't listed in the detailed power info window in-game, but the in-game power info has a general problem with powers that summon entities. You'd think that Heat Loss from Cold Domination does nothing at all, based on its detailed info.
Wow, soz. I've never even noticed those effects ingame.

Of course that's not unentirely unexpected given the mess my Illusion/Storm makes of things (and the fact Old Screechy is also there, I'd probably have assumed any fleeing was either Freezing Rain or him).

That's my Something New learnt for today then. I'm off home

This is an assumption but, seems reasonable. Yesterday the forums were down to undergo an upgrade to the vBulletin (as announced here). The smilies they were using were replaced by the default ones and they have not yet re installed the smilies we all know.
Sounds like a reasonable explanation alright.

Stone Melee does feel very smash-raar to me, but the bit I've bolded is totally and utterly correct. SM can be an absolute horror to earn and maintain Fury on I've found. I really, really want to respec my Stone/Fire to replace one of the Hammers with Air Sup. At the moment it's very hard to get a smooth attack chain with no gaps (Brawl helps of course but even so). The other issue is, oddly, the amount of Knockdown and control he has. It's almost too much. I've found it's very easy to over-mez the enemies you're fighting which means your other source of Fury dries up.

Plus the End Costs are horrific. If you're going Stone make sure you either slot lots and lots of End Reductions (and Recharges, Damages are almost the last thing to slot) or/and pick a secondary with good End Recovery powers. A Stone/Dark Brute sounds like possibly the worst combo for End I can think of.

Aye, I sort of agree with you (in that GR now doing well won't mean the servers close down). However given that most of the EU Community Staff has already been let go (sorry... restructured) I'm not so confident in the statement that the only way people may be let go is if CoH actually starts actively losing money. I think if it underperforms significantly then there is a danger that Paragon Studios could find itself cut back to a "holding levels" number of staff, enough to produce Issue Updates etc but not the number we have now.

Sorry, that is one bug-bear I have. RWZ makes *sense*. Its a warzone. Its them going down, or us.
Cimerora...ok, given that would rip the fabric of time as we know it apart, ok, fair enough. Although I still know some villains who would side with 'Them'.

DA? Most magical villains would join in the chaos, plunder the goods, or generally use it to their advantage. Co-op on smaller stuff doesn't make sense.
Maybe make Eden or something a co-op warzone, fix up the Hamidon raidsand make the DE wage their own war (Devour the City! Consume civilisation! Cast down the fleshlings!)

That I could believe. Co-op DA? Just revamp it, make it have a range of missions like the Hollows and make it fun to play.
To be honest I'm not sure I see your logic. The Rikti Raids and the RWZ are fine for villains to join in to as well because it's a Big Threat, but DA isn't, even if it was tied to the Zombie Raids, Deadly Apocolypse and given a new storyline with an equally Big Threat (but magical based).

A lot of my reasoning behind it is to give DA a purpose, and to give Villains more zones to explore.

But on your "Chaos" point, one nice thing to do might be to have two storylines in the one zone, one of which more Chaotic Villains (or Roguish Heroes) could go for instead. Of course then your problem might be what happens if you join a PuG who is doing the "opposite" storyline. (the same could be said for Going Rogue of course, which will be interesting).

Hmmm. I appear to be meandering way off-topic. Soz

Erm, you have been to Founders, right? I think some of the Rikti have been there so long they've starting renting apartments and sending their Munkies to Founders High (of course since there's no other children in the city this actually works out pretty well, except for the poor teachers who are having pink poo flung at them on a daily basis).

We did have different, much cooler ones even yesterday. It's like the previous images (which came when the servers switched over) have been replaced with crappier, older versions.

Obviously it ain't the end of the world or anything, it just looks way uglier. I suspect it's not an intentional change (or I hope not anyway).

Faultline surely? Those arcs are pretty fun.

Personally I'd kill for more 25-45 content Blueside and a new zone for the same range red side.

Giving Dark Astoria an epic Magical Apocolypse style series of storylines, ones which could also explain the randomness that it the Halloween events and making it co-op is something I'd love to see happen (I know some people hate co-op zones although with GR basically being "Everything becomes co-operable" it seems the way to go to me).
