My vote? Some big thing we haven't heard about yet. Either powersets, ATs, or something dramatic.
This basically. At the moment what we know doesn't really add up to more than a new free Issue in the past. Assumedly they know the same though and realise for 30 quid there has to be a fair chunk more.

And, as it has already been pointed out, buying a disk is fast becoming obselecent anyway. Give it two or three more years and you will only be able to get games by download.
2 or 3 more years? Nope. Don't think so (especially with the PSPGo floundering and flopping its way to oblivion). 5-10 years? Maybe.

All that said I do prefer digital purchasing anyway, when it's done right (Stardock and Steam do it well, EA less so).

Digitally, although if possible via a medium other than the NCSoft site as it tends to break under heavy loads, going on previous experience.

Hopefully Steam will have it, assuming I bother with it (going to wait for honest reviews, concrete details and feedback before I decide).

You only just figured that out? Been that way since they gutted the European offices and moved all our support to US times. As an aside I'd like to point it would be more to do with NCSoft, not Paragon Studios though.

Hopefully they'll just drop the charade and merge the server lists together. I'm sick of this crappy, artifical divide. Europe just seems to get the bad end of the divide every time. Less servers (and hence only 24 character slots, unless you want to pay for them). A "free server transfer" offer which is a slap in the face. Non-suitable update times.

I'd even happily take an optional EU -> US character transfer at this stage, ta.
  6. Thinking about it there is one reason I like Glue so much. I picked it up early and didn't get Crushing Field until level 24, specifically to avoid the early on aggro it can gain you. So I think that early reliance on Glue is the chief reason for my liking it so much. In the 30s it got moved off onto my 2nd tray and I didn't use it as much because I was AOE immobing everything.

Frankly, Flash Arrow needs more -ToHit, and Glue Arrow needs more -Recharge.
^ This please (plus some -regen in either PGA or Disruption arrow, or a bit in both, say 100 or 150. And if they No Stack got pulled from Acid Arrow and PGA that'd make me very, very happy).

You can pre-purchase either. Thus far, we don't know anything about a $10 goodie upgrade for costume stuff. Why anyone would want to spend $10 on the costumes of GR and not anything else relating to GR is beyond me.

Also, yes, the PlayNC store will probably break the day this goes up for sale. So don't be a rear-end-in-a-top-hat and press BUY 45 times, then complain that you bought GR 45 times.
Please for the love of all that's unholy let them put it on Steam too.

    What For?

I buy (cheap) IOs to Frankenslot the best enhancement values I can in powers. I also tend to go for Recovery or Regen bonuses because they're generally 2 or 3 set bonuses and thus compatible with Frankenslotting.

I'll buy other IOs to fix specific issues : knockback protection, stealth, Chance for End PROCs for a fair few characters and the Forced Feedback PROC for a quick-recharging AOE if I have one. That's about it really.

Works out pretty cheap usually, can work equally well both sides and it's compatible with my love of making alts.

Mission Architect was a golden opportunity for you to get some presence back in the market but you said at the time that wasn't going to happen. I understand that some shops would question putting a 5 year old game on the shelves, but you got them to do it in North America so you should be able to do it in the EU. Now another fantastic opportunity to get more players back onto the EU end of things comes along and you're throwing it away?

Sorry guys, but from where I'm standing it seems you're turning away or deliberately digging your own grave in the EU.
They dug that ages ago. At the moment they're busy clubbing us over the head with the shovel so they can roll us on in...

I'm really hoping that in the next couple of months they'll bite the bullet and remove this ridiculous America / Europe divide once and for all. I'm sick of it.

Just an additional thought. Because we can't pre-order the Complete Collection, there will be a NC Store feeding frenzy of people trying to order it on the day of release. IN ADDITION there will also all those people who have pre-ordered GR but want to upgrade on that day to the full package.

Anyone who has tried to get a booster pack on day of release knows the pain of that. But it's going to be much much worse for this.

Does that strike anyone as a good plan?
I've every confidence in the new NCSoft store and I'm optimistic that THIS time it will actually work properly.

(I can't believe I said that with a straight face).

Here's an actual, proper question though. Will the new Complete Collection be available on Release Day on Steam? That'd make a hell of a lot of sense.

This is the sound decision, but Marketing, bless their shrivelled little black hearts, know there's plenty of people who won't be able to resist the "Play it now" allure of Pistols and Demons.

I'm not one of them though, no particular interest in playing either at the mo so I'll wait ta.

and that is TIMES 2 because I play as well.

    Who thought this plan out?
Marketing (bless their shrivelled little black hearts). Chiefly because they know there are people like your wife out there I'm afraid. You're best option is to encourage your wife not to give into it if at all possible. Best way to show disapproval towards any sort of business model is to vote with your wallet. Or you can give into it but complain loudly about it on the boards, whichever is good.

Gotta love the marketing department. Give with one hand (early release of the two new Sets), take with the other (you end up paying a tenner for the privilage). Very Faustian.
  12. Get GDF. A Ranged AOE Hold is a great thing to have. 2 of em is just sick.

I prefer Frankenslotting it with as many Acc/Recharge/Hold IOs as you can (ditto for EMP Arrow). Generally means you can get full benefits of the power with 4 or 5 slots in each. For Wormhole I like Razzle Dazzle Stun/Rng & Acc/Stun/Rech, Stupefy Stun/Rng & Acc/Stun/Rech and Rope-a-dope Acc/Stun/Rech. The Range is useful here as it means you can be further away casting Wormhole (so easier to do it from cover).

Ditto try Frankenslotting Oil Slick Arrow rather than worrying about set bonuses. You want it up as much as possible and doing as much damage as possible. Also be aware that the Posi Proc in it doesn't work as expected (or exactly as expected if you think about it), it only has a chance of working if the Slick is lit.

Don't overlook Primal as an epic either. Fire is better in terms of Damage but Power Boosted EMP Arrows (or GDFs) are great too and Primal now has the AOE Energy cone (which does knockdown). My Grav/TA is staminaless (which I don't necessarily think is what everyone should do, I was experimenting. Works though), using IO Bonuses & Conserve Power to happily do without (which let me get Poison Gas Arrow, Aid Other and Aid Self).

Ice is another good one if you're happy to rely on your Origin power to light Oil Slicks (which is what I do, just use a bind. There's one in my sig-linked Grav/TA guide). Hibernate is great, Frost Breath is one of the strongest AOE cones you can get and Ice Storm / Oil Slick is silly. Ugly, ugly armour, but Defense based (so can stack nicely with Flash Arrow if you go for it).

Flash Arrow is rather rubbish IMO (unless you're 3 slotting it as a mule for minor -recharge bonus I suppose). I just stuck a Stealth IO in Hover (I combat hover) instead. I slotted a recharge and a Smashing PROC into Glue Arrow and left it at that (Crushing Field does often make Glue unneeded I suppose, but Glue is a nice long-term slowdown, great for kiting solo). Just look on at as your "experiment power" slot and see what feels right to you.

My Grav/TA is a self-confessed Proc junkie. Crushing Field has 3 damage procs in it (along with 2 Acc/Ends). Again an experiment more than a necessity.

Yep, that would explain it. Strange ingame logic though when you think about it though:

"Oh my god, he almost eviserated Jeff." *Fear*
"Oh look, he carved Jeffs head off in one strike. Get him!"

    Le' Union ?!?!

It's never bothered me particularly if French / Italian / Spanish pops up in a chat box. Even if it's in Team Chat I usually say "Guys, I've no idea what you are saying" and leave it at that. Anything important / directed at the team as a whole will then usually come in English, anything remaining in the foreign language I assume isn't relevant to me (or is them pointing out what a n00b I am, either is fine).

In Broadcast it worries me even less, I've no beef with the French, even if they did knock us out of the World cup (actually I'm happy about that, no inane WC songs, no incessent drunken WC antics for 3 weeks over the summer. Thank you Mr Henry) and then cream our poor Rugby team into a fine paste last week (gotta admire class).

It was funny fighting him though, 8 people whaling on him. "Hey, why isn't his health bar moving much. He's an EB. His shields can't be *that* good can they" *checks his health* "Oh right. Hey guys, this chap seems to be an AV"
  16. DM/Shields on a Scrapper, without question. WP is a great set (although I prefer it on higher HP ATs) but Shields & Dark Melee just go together so well, especially on a Scrapper with Against All Odds and Soul Drain sending your damage right up and Siphon Life meshing with Shields defense. Dark Consumption works well with Shields too (it's almost unneeded for a WP, you can just take Stamina and Quick Recovery instead).

Shields probably have more IO potential than Willpower too, and to be honest DM/WP gets dull after a while. Shield Charge never gets dull.

Also, Accelerate Metabolism helps to offset the heavy endurance cost of Hotfeet and Fire Cages.

It's not as damage heavy as fire/kin, but fire/rad is definitely a more damage oriented build than most controllers. I also feel that it tends to be a bit more versatile than a fire/kin, offering more team safety. It's a very nice all-arounder.
This basically. Fire/Rad is far, far earlier blooming (Rad gets its decent powers very early) and safer overall. At level 38 though the Kin streaks ahead in the damage stakes.

But Fire/Rad is a super combo, good all-rounder and a really good Hazard Zone Spawn soloer (that's what I used mine for, deliberately. Even his Biography states that he was usally limited to operating in Hazard Zones only). A great Scraptroller (Hotfeet + Choking Cloud means you'll live to be in close to a spawn. Flashfire & Cages lets you do that. The masses of debuffs let you kill things quicker).

Wormhole is superb solo imo, but pretty meh on teams. Unless you're playing Fetch with the Scrapper of course. That never gets old (for the Controller). Of course I'm basing that on a Grav/TA where the ability to dump a spawn into a corner (or another spawn) so you can flambe them all is the highlight of the sets.

Okay, while most of the players in the game who actively participate in PvP combat have already used the free transfers to move their avatars to Freedom Server, that isn't why cross-server PvP is a pointless feature.

One of the reasons why it's a pointless feature is that cross-server linking would require a significant amount of "new"engine code, "new" networking code, and "new" user interface code. Of the cross-server systems we have in place now, such as the chat system, AE system, and auction house system, I directly know that the auction house system uses it's own external server, rather than existing on the game servers. I also know that AE content is hosted upon it's own server. I'm under the impression that the chat-server is handled the same way, using an external server rather than running atop the game engine server.

As I see it, in order for the development staff to consider cross-server play, an argument would have to be made for a cross-server event or system that more than 1% of the active player-base would participate in.
Not necessarily (of course allowing for Standard Code Rant). Server Transfers already exisŧ and work in near-real time. A Cross Server system could use that (a server to server temporary copy) rather than requiring any substancal cross-server code.

    Quote:
Another reason is that simply making CoH's PvP Cross-server doesn't necessarily mean that more players will participate. I do know that somebody has made the suggestion before that PvP-play would grow if more players were available to take part in PvP. I'm not entirely sure this is true. Remember, CoH is often used as "proof" in the games industry that MMO's do not need PvP to succeed. Despite multiple years of PvP-play existing in the game, PvP zones and PvP arenas have never attracted a significant amount of players. Despite literal years for PvP players to evangelize the feature and get players interested... the general game response has been "ho hum" at it's best.

    ***

If the developers were to look at a system of making game-content cross-server compatible, I think it would be in their interest to just bite the howitzer shells and examine a player-serverless cloud environment as a hosting solution. Although that brings it's own set of problems, it would at least be applicable to the game, not to a niche.
Agreed on this, if a Cross Server system existed I'd want to to apply to PvE situations as well as PvP ones. As a European player I wouldn't see the need for it from purely selfish point of view, since it would be likely that, like the Server Transfers currently, it would only work within Server Lists (so ironically I'd become the unsupported niche).
