Early on you can put everything you have into Nova and it will be awesome (At level 6 you have an advantage over any blaster and that lasts for quite a while), with just a few slots in things like Gravity Well because Voids are the biggest problem at low levels.

Then in the mid to late 20's I did a respec to move a few slots out of Nova into human form powers, but I didn't give Dwarf form much love until the 40's. If you prefer Dwarf form you could move a lot of the slots from Nova to Dwarf, because it is very hard to be truly tri-form early on, and then still fairly hard later in life.
I think I respecced at level 12, to pre-slot the Nova with the silly wasted slots from levels 1-5, respecced again at 22 for SOs and to pre-slot up bits of Dwarf form (pre-change Mire, Taunt and the heal) so I could do some tanking (I still had Nova form fairly well slotted up) and then respecced once or twice more along the way to tweak slots and change some powers and that worked pretty well for my Triform.

Of course I do tend to respec at 22 and 32 on all my chars anyway to jig things around (I never bother with the actual Stamina run any more, I prefer getting shiney powers to test out, I then respec into it at 22).
  2. You probably want Seismic Smash!! Most damaging single target controller power there is, plus it'll hold a boss in one hit. It's super. Personally I wouldn't be bothered too much with Earths Embrace since you're Empathy anyway. I'd take Fissure, Seismic Smash and Rock Armour (once you're prepared for the uglyness of the poo armour). Rock Armour gives you a better chance of avoiding smashing & lethal attacks and any nasty associated mezzes or debuffs they might have.

    Don't all Brutes do this?

My Stone/Fire brutes journey to 20 was the most End sapping experience I've had since that night I got really drunk and brought 2 Malta sappers back to my... Erm, I've said too much.

But yeah, the to-20 run on both my Brutes was horrible, even with just Acc & End Red DOs slotted everywhere.

    Hows Gravity?

Trick Arrow tends to go well with Gravity as well. Decent synergy between the sets and TA gives you the extra control Gravity lacks. Bit of a slog through the first 20 or so levels but it's all good after that. (Shameless plug : see aging guide link below).

Besides, the Fireball+Oil Slick combo is simply awesome. Bad guy BBQ with a big burst of flame to start, then continuing fire roasting their, um, nether regions. Massive AoE damage. You'd rather throw a wimpy little taser?
Indeed. It's more fun watching the sneer on the bad guys face change to horror when they realise what you're actually aiming the wimpy little Taser at.

    *WHOOOOMP*

I tend to use the Taser or Energy Cone nowadays. Primal suits my Grav/TAs concept much better than Fire does. Plus a Conserved Power PBed EMP Arrow is stupidly funny.

Yep, it's my follow-up "Where do you think you're going" fall-down power. Build Up -> Seismic Smash -> Fault -> Burn -> Tremor = Yum!!

For some weird reason Tremor -> Burn -> Fault doesn't work well at all, the second knockdown doesn't work and everything speed-staggers straight out of the burning patch. Something to do with the Fault knockdown coming too quickly after things are getting back up from the Tremor I think.

Hmmm. See I was pretty sure that any pseudos inherit the buff for the remainer of the buffs life time (or until the pet expires), whichever is shorter. I'm certainly seeing a drop-off in the damage the Burn patch is doing over time, which I thought was down to Fury and Build-Up wearing off on it. I'll try some experiments on a hapless victim using just a half-expired Build-Up and Burn later to see.

If you're right then I'm completely stumped as to why my damage is dropping (by more than 50%) after a few seconds

Going with the Leaping pool is a very good decision for a /Fire or /Dark scrapper. They are the only secondaries that get no Knockback protection built in. Unless you're lucky enough to have a KB protection IO drop for you, or make enough to buy one, the last power in the pool, Acrobatics, will be invaluable.
The Knockback IOs are pretty easy to get via Tickets though. I got a level 20 one from Bronze Drops fairly quickly on my Stone/Fire Brute through some easy farming. They've also gone down in value on the market thanks to this. You could probably just use Tickets to Random Roll a fair whack of Common Salvage and make enough cash for one just as quickly (and more reliably, I got fairly lucky with my roll, it came up quickly).
  9. Mix em. Rads debuffs are so ridiculously high you won't need more than one of them. Irradiate alone does 40% or something silly like that. Basically when the GDN kicked in and all Defense values were halved the Defense Debuff values weren't adjusted to match. So you shouldn't need more than one Rad really (stuff him full of Achilles Heel -Resist PROCs as well).

A Emp/Dark and an Emp/Ice combo would be interesting for Tentacles & Night Fall + Ice Storm or Blizzard (defenders get the Blaster versions of the Ice Rains). Slow Death by Orange Numbers!!

Is this expected behaviour because Burn inherits the Fury damage buff but it expires during Burns 10 second lifetime? How long does Furys Damage Buff last?

So does anyone know how well and how long Burn & the damage bonus from Fury work together on a Brute?

They really need to do the work here and copy and update the pseudos to Defender levels. Otherwise the set is basically pointless, especially with GR coming as well. I suppose they could dramtically decrease Recharge & End Costs instead but that'd just feel like a cheap and lazy way out to me. I'd be astonished if they went the lazy route with this and didn't create the Defender level pseudos. If that's the case why not just give it to Controllers and give Defenders something easier to Proliferate?
  13. My Fire/Rad went Flight as well. Not only does it have the advantage of the "point in the right direction, hit R and go for a smoke" method of getting to a mission but Air Superiority suits my scrappy little Fire/Rad really well (especially since he's also got the Earth epic).

I probably could have gone the Leaping (& Psi Mastery) pools to give mez protection but it wouldn't suit my fiery little aggro-bot as well.

Dark/Willpower - Nice on Endurance, but I can't take an alpha strike. I haven't figured out how to get Tough into my build (everything in /WP seems great, and I need attacks, although I do have Haste/SS). And now that I'm 35+, I'm starting to run into problems - An endurance sucking boss from the Carnival of Shadows had me running to rest (a blue won't help when everything detoggles), and a Fire/Fire tank boss at the end of a bank mission almost took me out (if not for the greens). I've also found that some things can de-toggle my Rise to the Challenge. I don't know what or why, but it's annoying to find it off.
My Dark/WP swears by Air Superiority. Any troublesome bosses end up on their ***** over and over again and in between Air Sups I can rattle off my big hitters. Also with Siphon Life slot Acc, Recharge and End in it mainly over Damage. Fury raises the damage and the quick recharge means more damage done and healing at the same time (slot for End too to save your Blue Bar). I don't even have Tough yet and he's almost the toughest thing I have in the game (my Necro/Dark is probably more survivable once he gets the debuffs and heals going but that's about it). I took Dark Consumption over Stamina, it mightn't be the most efficient overall but sure is nice when you need a spike of End (and fits his concept better).

So they'll have 2 bonfires, one at 41 and a new one at 44??

    Info on teleport

The only time the End cost hurt was on my once-staminaless Mastermind. Teleport is my fave travel power, normally I throw one extra slot in their and go End Reduction and Range (or suitable set IO slotting).

I've never bothered with Hover with it and rarely do the lemming drop.

What's weird here to me is that power switching aboot has been done before. War Mace got one of their powers (single target attack I think) moved to level 4 or 6 previously.

I'd agree with this, keep Dark as a Theme but don't stick rigidly to the idea of Dark/Dark (not least because the Brutes & Stalkers will never get to see their cossies under all that smog). Plus of course if you're all Dark Blasts & Melees you're really going to hate things like Banished Pantheon, Zombies and CoT ghosties.

Mixing and matching sets while sticking with an overall theme will give the participants more scope to come up with concepts they like as well.

PROCs don't benefit from Damage Boosts do they? I was pretty sure the damage is unenhancable. The only way to make them hit harder is to debuff an enemies resistance.

If they do I'm getting a load for my Brutes!

Do I actually think cross divide, cross-server teaming will come? Probably not at this stage of the games life, there'd be a fair whack of scary work involved. But I'd like it to.

Even easier to play with a friend on another alt on another server,
after the Super-SK goes into effect.
and less reason to actually take an alt to a different server. . . . just make a duplicate, and auto-sk to team with any friend you like!

    .
Unless you happen to be on the wrong side of the EU/US divide of course. Which is why me wants it. I don't particularly want to choose just EU or US side (not paying subs for both thank you) and I'd love my hard paid for Vet attacks US side too, a cross divide serverless or semi-serverless enviroment would be a godsend.

Just remember, although Schiphol people may think its next to Amsterdam, its not. Its very normal taking a cab, but those are fairly expensive in Netherlands.
I've always managed to get the train. And bearing in mind how, erm, confused I usually was catching the return flight I still managed it fairly handily. Amsterdam train station is a bit scary though.

Amsterdam would be a good place for it, everywhere seems to fly into Schiphol (except Ryanair, another bonus)

It was Bridger if I remember correctly. Never heard of a Dev mentioning it but Bridger did bring it up before in a post answering one of these threads.

I'd love it to happen but wouldn't hold my breath (unless you're *really* good at surviving without oxygen for a couple of years).

You'll be missed here ML. But we'll meet again I'm sure. Enjoy your break and the 3D Studio course (and the new rig) and see you when you get back (or on CO).
