Quote:Yep. I've been wanting this for years too.Been saying this for years.
They need to forget about how many active EU subs they have and have a look at the bloody servers.
They could also go and have a read of the none too glowing PC Gamer review about the state of the EU population.
Do eet! Doooo eeeeeeet!!
Even just as EU -> US Transfers would be fine with me at this stage as oppose to a Server List merge. -
Only Electric Fences gives -knockback from the Brute epics. Tentacles doesn't.

Quote:It sure is.Is the form bug still prent during a respec ?
Im specifically thinking putting the level 3 and 5 slots into nova form blasts.
that would certainly help out at level 10.
(And Dark Novas AOE, Dark Detonation, does do knockback, but since you can fly it's easily converted into knockdown). -
Quote:Oh yeah, good catch. I'd forgotten about that disclaimer alright. The post I remember was made just after server transfers was introduced as a microtransaction. What I remember being said was if at some point in the distant future they were to decide to implement a server-less environment the fees paid for prior server transfers would not be refunded.

Quote:Since it's only a "visit" to another server with that character (you could easily handwave it as each shard being a different Portal Dimension) the chances of the two names being actually online at the same time would be much less than a true transfer.and this raises the question of what happens when you have toon names that are the same? whether it be your own toons or someone elses toon on another server. i really don't want to have to change my name or have a number added to the end.
Either the visitor or the last of the clashing toons to log on would need a .something at the end of their name to differenate from the first on, but it would only last for the play session. If you didn't like the system you'd be free not to use it and just stick to your own shard. -
Quote:Yep, this would be excellent (especially if it allowed us EU types to visit US Servers)I'd like a system that keeps our servers, but allows to play on any of those servers at any time with any of your characters. Basically, you'd have all your character slots on one page when you log in. After selecting what character you want to play, or creating a new character, you's move on to the server selection page. You would see the total number of people logged in to each server, and could choose accordingly. People who want to always choose their "home" server could do so with no real change to them, while those who want to choose a server with high population could choose whichever server was most populated at that point in time.
We would still have our servers, we'd just use them a bit differently.
Of course it would basically dry up NCSofts Server Transfer income so I wonder how attractive it would be to NCSoft to implement. -
He did say "today" and posted at 11:26am local time, so I guess it was an early morning run. About right for Union around that time. And that's the EU server with the highest population mind.

The only person I heard of mentioning that was Bridger, when he was a Moderator EU side. Never heard anything from a Dev backing it up, myself. It was a "What if..." rather than anything concrete though. He did go on to do some Dev work, before being downsized along with the rest of the EU side support team.

Quote:And this is the main reason why you can't have a more freeform respec, unfortunately.I like the idea. I would also like to be able to move slots around only as that is one of my reason normal for a respec.
The stupid game doesn't remember what levels you placed slots in at (hence the way it weakens enhancement values when you exemp), so it's impossible to allow people to move slots around since the same won't know if it's legal for a slot to be moved to a certain power. It's been like this since the start, and the devs never fixed it, instead working around it by implementing the Exemp system the way it is. If they'd started recording the levels slots were placed when this arose (Bridger pointed it out in i5 or i6 or so) then chances are the vast majority of builds would now have valid slot level info via people respeccing or creating new characters.
Mids of course does remember what level each slot is from so you can easily move them around. -
Quote:Nope. Although they will return to the area of effect quicker once it goes out now. If you're Tech or Magical origin you can light it with your Origin power too. I wouldn't really be bothered slotting it with the Posi Proc to be honest. The tiny AOE doesn't really make it worth it.Was gonna slot the Achilles' Heel and the Positron chance for energy damage. Someone said with that proc you could light OSA, though with the radius of the arrow that's probably not an efficient use for the power itself, not to mention my Arsonist could just light it on fire...
P.S. Did they ever fix that bug that made your pets run out of OSA's fire? -
Are we playing Call My Bluff?
Ok, I'll go.
It's actually a typo. It's supposed to be Bubble Herders. Posi was on to Ctrl-Alt-Del and asked them to include a space in MMO Hell for all the people who used the MA to kill missions full of Green Mitos, before they were removed. In order to get the most XP per min it made sense to herd the bubbles together so the AOEers could wipe them out as quickly as possible. -
Acid Arrow has never been auto-hit. It's always needed an Accuracy. In terms of PROCs, if you're talking about the Achilles Heel PROC it's worth slotting. A damage proc probably isn't worth it though.

Grats Captain!
Took me about 3.5 years to get to 50 with Carni. Only reason I made it was a bunch of nice people from the forums (plus Cynic, he'd never forgive me for calling him nice) nabbed me in a PuG one Saturday night and then made me stay awake until I dinged in the Tyrant mish. Was loads of fun.
I know what you mean about feeling ambiguous about it, but a Warshade does make it worthwhile. In fact my WS is my only other 50, and I felt a lot sadder getting her to 50 because it was so much fun (especially once I got into the 20s). -

Quote:Yep, if you're AOE heavy then more, weaker enemies seems to be a lot better than a few, tougher ones. Especially on a Brute where the number of attacks made on you boosts your Fury nicely too. Plus you'll earn Insps quicker too (and other drops when the bugs are fixed, although Salvage seems fine to me at the mo).I say it depends on the character in question.
Here is some more ancedotal evidence. My new claws/ brute runs at -1 difficulty (x3-5 depending) until I can get stamina, SOs and a few more powers. Why? It's more fun and possibly more efficient.
I don't have to worry about endurance as much since the enemies tend to fall faster. If I didn't have a AoE like Spin I might find it more difficult.
Anyways, I've been running at -1/x2 on most of my new characters and then adjust accordingly based on their capabilities. -
I happily PLed two of my Brutes up to mid-20s with the MA, my Dark/WP and my Stone/Fire.
I don't find Brutes much fun pre-20 (actually I lie, my Claws/Elec has been fun, but a lot of that is down to the new Diff settings). My Stone/Fire brute was insanely painful in his teens, even fully slotted up for End Reduction. Soloing PL friendly MA missions stopped him being wiped / ignored before I could sort him out with Consume, Stamina and SOs.
Plus with all the Tickets -> Salvage -> Black Market transactions I was easily able to SO both out and get a few nice Bronze Rolls too.
Quote:For me on my Stone/Fire it was a toss-up between slowly grind-soloing normal sized, even conning enemies, stopping to rest every few mins compared to using the MA and picking lots of relatively weak enemies and being able to keep on running thanks to the Insp drops they left. It was more powergaming, picking the number and difficulty of enemies which suited his playstyle better compared to standard missions. Now he can do the same outside the MA in normal missions, and has his End issues dealt with he hasn't been back in the MA.I'm not opposed to this sort of mentallity, but I just really don't get it. If a novel is trashy and has boring parts, I simply don't read it ... -
Quote:Recipe for Mirth :...
I'm a big fan of Gravity/Trick Arrow personally.
There aren't too many around, and both your primary and secondary have good single target control while you wait for the better powers. Once you get Wormhole, Oil Slick Arrow, and both ranged AoE holds slotted up you'll see why.- Using one Wormhole take a spawn and place into a corner.
- Add a Crushing Field, one optionally seasoned with a few PROCs.
- Marinade the now tightly clustered enemies in an Oil Slick, making sure to coat them all thoroughly in the oil
- Using a heat source, such as the Origin Powers Apprentice Charm or Tasar Dart ignite the oil and flambe the enemies vigorously. More advanced cooks can use other sources such as a Fireball. Note how the enemies cannot escape the heat, but will continue to fall over in a slapstick fashion.
- While burning quickly add a Disruption Arrow and an Acid Arrow, to help soften the enemies further.
- Any enemies left standing after this should be beaten around the head, using whatever interesting implement Propel has decided to give you. Favourites include toilets and forklifts.
Grav/TA starts slowly (although since i16 gave a boost to levelling speeds between 5 and 25 this won't be as bad as it used to be) but from level 20 onwards basically every power is a good un. Having 2 ranged holds is nice, for dealing for bosses. Having 2 ranges AOE holds is nice for dealing with everyone else -
Why does "I don't like not having access to my high level powers" equate to snobbery? Half the time when I exemp down I severely miss things like pets, or even Epic powers.
That's not snobbery. That's just someone who enjoys the top end powers they've worked towards and don't particularly want to return to the time when they were missing. I'd never, ever exemp below level 36 on my Grav/TA, I'd lose too many fun powers. -
Quote:The Lightning Storm does have a decent accuracy (about the same as if it had a level 50 Common Accuracy IO slotted in it) but your Set Bonuses shouldn't affect it any more than they would any other pet.I use the Devastation Proc Chance for Hold in my Lightning Storm on about 4 characters. Love it! It has a chance to hit with each lightning strike -- which used to be much more often before the recharge nerf. Still, I see the Tesla Cage animation pop up on a regular basis, which goes quite well with Lightning.
By putting two procs into it, you will be giving up either damage or recharge, which I'm not willing to do. I generally slot the Dam/Rech and Dam/EndRdx/Rech from Thunderstrike and Entropic Chaos, and the Dam/Rech and Chance or Hold from Devastation. It has so much inherent accuracy that, combined with my Acc bonuses, means it has no trouble hitting.
You could 6 slot it with 2 PROCs and 4 Dam/Recharge and it'd give full damage & recharge plus the effects of the two procs, but the End costs might be a bit high. -
Quote:Glad I could, erm, helpNo worries! Glad it wasn't something on my end, but even moreso that you figured it out. Plus it gave me a reason to finally get my VM setup working on this new laptop.
Are you using VMWare? My home laptop is Vista only and I'd like to get Linux available on it too. Tried a USB installation but after a few minutes the machine seems to lose the connection to the USB drive (so suddenly, as far as it's concerned, the disk with the file system vanishes). -
Quote:Aaaaand... it's fixed. It was something buried away in my Browser settings. I'd set the minimum font size years ago (I've been using the same configuration folder since Opera 6) and that was bypassing your style settings.I'm downloading Fedora 11 and OpenSuse 11.1 for fun anyway (yes, how sad is it that this is fun?).
It's Friday, and I have a plane to catch tonight, so right now my mind is everywhere but where it's supposed to be
Sorry SP. I should know to double-check my own settings before reporting things -
Quote:It's Fedora Redhat. 6 I think. I wouldn't worry about it too much if its just one distrib. It's more likely to be something odd with my settings rather than the Distrib I'm using I reckon. Let me have a look and see if I can spot anything I've got in my Opera settings before you go messing with other distribs.Ok, I think it's specific to either your Linux distro, or your something else. I just installed a fresh VM of Ubuntu, installed Opera 10, and it looks exactly the same in Ubuntu as it did in XP or OSX.
What Linux distro are you using? I tested in Ubunut 9.04 (it was the easiest), but don't mind having other flavors lying around to test with, if you're using something different -
10. It could indeed be a Linux only concern, I'll be able to check this evening when I get home. Zooming to 70% fixes it, and I can probably rig a fix via a View Mode stylesheet to get around it by forcing the font size.

Downside : All your Toggles drop, plus your Fury bar empties.
Upside : All your powers recharge and your Health and End goes back to maxI was very surprised the first time I SSed out a mission door at a tiny % of health and was fully healed when it loaded. Who needs Rest!
